[Q] APAD with best android upgrade support

I am planning to buy a 7" sub $150 tablet for my kid. Primary usage will be playing games & educational use.
I would like to know which of the Chinese Apad tablet manufacturers, provide medium to long term android support or third party ROMs are available. It looks like Ainol novo fire & Pipo U2 have good reviews. Any recommendations on which one to go for? Also do you know if either of these tablets give good android upgrade support or have decent 3rd party ROM availability?
Thanks,
Ravi

[Q] fstrim support in kindle fire hdx / fire os 3.0 mojito

Hi friends:
I read that the new OS Fire OS 3.0 (Mojito) is based on Android 4.2.x. I think one of the very important feature that was added in Android 4.3 was the fstrim (TRIM) support that regularly schedules the syncing of unused blocks to the storage controller. We already observed that Android devices kept being slower and slower with due time and the missing TRIM support was one of the primary reason.
So I wanted to know did Amazon back ported the complete TRIM support to their Fire OS 3.0, otherwise all the shining and speed that we'll enjoy in the initial days will loose with time.
I know this would be difficult to know at this time when HDX has not been released yet but I heard that Fire OS 3.0 has already been released for older Kindle HD models.
I'd really want to know this.
Thanks.
I'd love for someone to confirm this as well. It's the only thing stopping me from buying this. You can't touch a tablet with these same hardware specs for this low of a price!
When custom ROMs come out, you will be able to use this. Please do not quote me on this, but I am almost positive.

[Q] IDEA: Android TV ROM for Android Tablets

With the announcement of Android 5.0, I was thiinking of new possibilities. I have an old tablet (1st Gen Kindle Fire), and I was wondering if there was any way you could create an Android TV ROM to install on a tablet, wether it's the Kindle Fire or a Nexus 7 or something. You could then connect an external display (if your device supports that) so you would have the full Android TV experience without forking over another $100 just by using old tech. Are there any guides to do something like this?
Yup. I had the same thought. I'd love to do this with old Galaxy Nexus.
I would love it on my nexus 7 2013!
I'm looking for this idea on my old phone and tablet / even dual boot -> that's really good one for home.
P/S: using HDMI cable (slimport or LHM) to connect to TV
It'd probably be possible, if you can run SDR touch on a phone, it'd surely be possible to run a TV Android version with some tweaking and a RTLSDR Dongle(they were originally for TV)

Fire TV Apk for Hulu?

I was at a friends house and noticed that their Fire Tv has a vastly updated version of Hulu vs our barebones version on the shield tv. Has anyone attempted to port the Fire Tv version of Hulu to the shield tv? I love the device(read hardware) but I wish the app support was a bit better.
Apologies if this topic has been beaten to death I tried searching but came up short.
I know on a normal Android box not one that's actually Android TV you can run their version of the apk you just have to have Amazon app store installed. Try installing their store on the shield and installing from them? Maybe that'll work?

Easy to root 7inch tablets

Hi,
I need to replace my Huawei T1 701w tablet as most of the apps will no longer update on Android 4. Can anyone recommend a cheap 7 inch tablet that is well supported on this forum? Something that maybe supported with custom ROMs for a little while? I only use it for watching media and light browsing. Are there currently custom ROMs for the Fire 7? This is one tablet I am considering but I would want to use it with stock Android rather than Amazons own version.
