[Q] Copying a Rom to put on an identical device - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought my first android Streaming box - with a RK3288 processor. I am very much impressed and have been playing around with it for days and days. I think I finally have it to where I want it. My problem is I am buying another box for my parents and would like to just copy exactly what I have to the new box.
How do I do this? I have tried a couple apps from the Google Store and they don't yet support the RK3288 processor as it's pretty new and I couldn't figure out how to use Titanium Backup. Any detailed help would be amazing - and my parents would thank you too! Happy Holidays in Advance.

Viewpad 10e

I've been lucky enough to snag a Viewpad 10e from Argos in the UK... Struggling to find any forums specifically for this pad though.
In a nutshell, its a great piece of hardware for £200 slightly let down by stuttery software. Very iPad like but with Android gingerbread.
Anyone else out there have any experience with this tab yet? Anyone know of any plans for it to get it's own forum/development community?
Cheers.

Dude, return the tablet right now. Boycott viewsonic!
Its been over 24hrs with new toy now. Will be posting a review soon. I honestly like the look and feel so much that I'm selling my Galaxy Tab 10. I'll have some money left over as well cause the Viewpad is so cheaply priced. All that extra processor power is not needed for me, I basically use the tab for web browsing, a few notes, check the weather and the kids play angry birds! This pad is definitely suited to the job.

Ditto. For that price, you are better to go with a much wider support device like the Kindle Fire or Nook Color. Don't expect your new toy to get any substantial update to improve it beyond what it is now. The gTablet community has already been bitten by Viewsonic false promises. Your device will most likely had the same fate.
PS: a no name brand tablet from China can do all you want at an even lower price. Did you choose Viewsonic for the peace of mind of a name brand? Viewsonic don't make their own tablet. They outsource the manufacturing, the software and the support. All they really interest in is take your money.

Honestly, I was really impressed by the response I had recently from their support dept. I really like the device and I have been through a few to say the least. Seems like it could be quite hackable and I may just use it to learn some new programming skills myself! (If I can drum up some support). In my experience, every forum/thread has loads of people frustrated by lack of support from the manufacturers/resllers but for me, the point of these forums is finding help... Ill keep my fingers crossed that the OEM is discovered soon and after that finding some hacks should get easier.
Third warning about Viewsonic, their products suffer longevity shortfalls. I am now the 3rd person telling you they have the consumer integrity of a wombat. Don't hold your breath waiting for anyone to pick it up and think it will be differently. So many people got burned via the g tablet and it's abhorrent lack of updates from the manufacturer (which when it comes to things like drivers etc for future OS upgrades becomes a critical part of the equation) not many people who have been around the android block are going to make another purchase from Viewsonic so you could very well be alone for the foreseeable future in this purchase. I don't even like having a Viewsonic monitor on my desk at work anymore. Again, take what you are hearing at face value, Viewsonic + android = meh. I enjoyed my g tablet when i purchased it and it does almost all that I need but I hoped for more and have gotten less. Keep it if you like, but 6 months from now when you are looking at another tablet you are going to be hard pressed to find anyone to buy your Viewsonic. The poor reputation flags are there already.
Keep in mind, Viewsonic is the same company that came to XDA saying they wanted feedback and input from this community about the g tablet. That was spring of this year and not a single thing has changed. They did that one firmware update in April and since then it has been nothing but pushed changes that then get pulled back.
Keep it if you are happy with it, I just wouldn't expect anything in terms of a large community ever coming of one of their devices.
It's been almost a year since they promised they'd release an update. Every time I've asked them about update, the only reply I've gotten is "we're working on it." I dare you to find any report of a different response than that.
Viewsonic needs to go back to producing nothing but display monitors and projectors. This company is not ready yet to play with the big boys in the computing market.
US vs UK - not exactly the same...
The G-Tablet was a US only product?!
The Viewpad 10e is only in the UK so far..... 9.7" IPS panel for £199, 9mm thick looks good value to me if your needs are not too demanding
Cant get my 10e to play videos from iplayer, any idea as to why not?
I decided to try one...
Works on live streaming for me from the app but not the others, think it could be to do with the Flash player version, read recently about other tablet users having issues with bandwidth / setting local storage to 0...
Which app did you use, couldn't find one in the 1mobile app store that came on the device

BBC iPlayer 1.04 apk from the web. It still is only working for me with live TV, Flash version 10.3, Flash 11.0 wasn't working...
Will play around with the different versions in the office today
Ok so I now have the Viewpad 10e working with BBC iPlayer.
I used BBC iPlayer 1.0.4 & Flash 10.3.185.25
I put these into a zip file on 4shared, not sure if I am allowed to share the link or not..
Hello
I'm very keen on the Viewpad 10e myself. Has anyone tried out the multimedia side of it? it would be great t be able to play 1080p movies, etc. By the sounds of the 3D stuff that comes with it, it should be a decent GPU in it, would be nice to know how it does.
Custom ROM
Does anyone know how to install a custom ROM on the device?
Hi all
I'm thinking of getting one of these too. But I'm a bit concerened about the 'dated' SC A8 CPU and the dated OS?
Some of the things I will want to do on this is video calling using Skype (yes, I know there are other alternatives, but it has to be Skype) and playing DivX/Xvid movies and some .MKV movies. Could anyone tell me if it will be good enough? I am quite impressed by the dimensions and the screen, but if the specs can't keep up then I'm thinking of a cheap and chunky Tegra 2 tablet like the POV which is actually £10 cheaper and I'll put a custom ViewComb 3.2 ROM on it...
Any suggestions/opinions?
Does anyone know how to root the device?
Just got one for my daughter.
First impressions : well-made bit of kit with a great IPS screen. worth it for the hardware, I would say.
Moon reader pro is great on it, as is perfect viewer for comics and pdf's.
Can't get the video calling working for some reason. Anyone had any joy with this ?
Have tried Tango and Fring. In both cases, the FFC doesn't seem to switch on. You can see the the other person on it, but they can't see you.
Also, with Tango, the mic is switched off, and can't be switched back on.
Some sort of firmware shenanigans going on here. Had a quick chat with Viewsonic customer support just now, who will email me back.
Bit concerned by the negative comments on this thread !
Wanted the archos 101 as HMV were doing it for £129 , but just missed the boat, and then this came to my attention in Argos. Hope I haven't landed a dud !
Well, so far, have managed to get all her bits on it. Their version of market is a bit limited, but there is enough to get you started. Go launcher was a must, after having it on my Galaxy S2 phone, and it seems to cope ok. Formatted some of her films as mp4's and the shipped 'vortex player' handles them well.
Video calling would have been icing on the cake really.
Oh yeah, and whatsapp functionality, but there are ways around that I am looking into now.
Overall so far - promising.
Root and custom rom's would really maximise this thing's potential.
Oh yeah, and won't talk to my macbook pro over bluetooth- first device ever to do that.

[Q] Other Tablet instead of new gen 8?

Hi,
As I wrote about a month ago (here) I had problems with the battery of my 101 and had to send it in for warranty. Today a totally new one arrived and I should be glad about it. Thing is, I'm not quite sure if I am. Archos was very kind in this case and so far I was almost totally happy with the tablet. But since $aur0n stopped development of UrukDroid and there doesn't seem to be much progress with ICS I'm not sure if the device is still the right thing for me. Yesterday I friend asked me why I don't just sell the brad new 101 and get me another tablet. If I do so I would get about 150-200€ to invest in a new device. What do you guys think?
P.S.: I ask you because I know you ,too like the Archos tablets and know better about my situation than all the apple and Samsung fanboys out there
The problem is that with that little amount of money we are talking about same new chinese tablet, something like HiPad and co ( 9.7" - 10.1" ).
And those in that pricerange are in no way faster or more reliable than your Archos, esp. in the media part.
If you would go for 7" then you could get something like a Ramos W17 Pro or Ainol Novo Elf 2 that come with a real Dual Core.
So it really depends on what you want to do.

Google Play Store Issue

Hello All,
I've purchased a new tablet (Lenovo IdeaTab A2109A), I got it on sale this past sat. @ my local best buy store. It's got the NVIDIA Tegra3 Quad-Core Processor in it..what a difference a faster processor makes ! Of course, that's NOT why I'm submitting this new thread..I did a Wipe Data / Factory Reset per nobe1976 suggestion. That got my gtab back to what I call an 'original' starting point, as I wanted because I'm giving my gtab to our youngest son who's visiting us for christmas. He's never had a tablet before, and so I purchased a new one I thought that would be good to do. My problem is..he's already got a google account, so that part was easy, but when he went to the google play store to install some app's that he wanted..he received the 'famous' incompatibility notice that the gtab is known for. Isn't there a 'fix' to get around this issue ? One of the app's. he wanted was this one ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsImNvbS51c2FibGVuZXQubW9iaWxlLndhbGdyZWVuIl0. ) it's just a simple walgreens drugstore app., he was informed his gtab was incompatable for this app., any fix ?
Merry Christmas,
David
P.S. Just a quick update, I now know the reason I'm getting the notice " Your device isn't compatible with this version" google play is recognizing the viewsonic gtablet as a " Motorola Tervigon" device. I guess that means I'll have to 'trick' the device/website into think the gtab is something different.
A. You can find the device information on build.prop file. Can view this file using ROM toolbox lite app's build.prop editor
B. Refer this link to fix Google market issue http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/apps/blog/categories/show/1101880-02-market-fix- OR

My 2 cents.

[Q] Gigabyte GSmart Maya and Gsmart Rio - any experience and reviews?

It seems that our phone market here (in Croatia) has recently been updated with some brands i haven't seen before - Gigabyte and Prestigio. I know them as tablet and/or computer peripherals manufacturers, but i haven't really known that they also made phones.
My friend bought a Prestigio phone a few months ago and he is satisfied with it, although i can't get any detailed infos from him since he only uses it for calls and angry birds when he's on the toilet
Today i noticed two Gigabyte phones that are both packed with features and seem to be a good bargain, considering price and what is stated as phones' specs. Here are the two ones i noticed:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5400&idPhone2=5401
I'm wondering has anyone had any experience with these phones? For the price, (a little more than €200 - a really good price for that kind of phone here) they almost seem too good to be true. I was also wondering what's the real difference between the processors? Both of them have 1gHz dual core, but the Rio model (cheaper and weaker) has Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon, and the more expensive Maya model has MTK 6577. I have heard of Snapdragon before, and i think it should be a good processor, but i have no information on the latter one.
Oh, and maybe it's good to note that the cheaper, Rio model comes with android 4.0, with no possibility of upgrade, and Maya comes with 4.1
Anyways, what should I expect of these phones? Should I consider buying any of them at all? Did anyone try to root them and put any custom rom on them?
also, this model popped into my eyes... also a gigabyte phone:
http://www.gsmarena.com/gigabyte_gsmart_gs202-5174.php
I bought RIO R1 yesterday so its quite new for me, but as I used many android phones I can compare it quite well.
I can compare it to htc desire, wildfire s, sensation and many others
so the biggest problem is battery drain, but Im used to charge battery often so its not so big deal for me.
problem is with headphones, only the ones packed with phone works ok, but I will try more of them (htc headphones start music application and radio is only mono)
phone is little bit laggy but Im trying to get rid of apps I dont want.
root was easy done in 5 minutes and the most of the time was used for searching for right drivers and software.
I found CWM but its for A30 and phone does not show anything in recovery mode. I tried [email protected] but got nothing. I will try to search and play with it.
both sim cards work great (only one sim can be used for hi-speed internet, second one is only on edge), you can choose the time to choose from which card will you call or use predefined.
you can set own ringtone for every sim card and if you get sms or call you can see on which sim card.
I installed all apps from my htc desire and its much faster but I have problem with my favourite launcher - action launcher. I will try nova launcher as I have paid version.
Im waiting for 4.1 or higher or maybe I will also try to compile it for tests.

[Q] What tab do I buy? Need a quad core that has the BEST customisation? PLEASE help

Hi guys
Ive bricked my crappy little it9011 by modifying build.prop, pushed the old one back and still bricked! RUBBISH DEVICE!! Anyway, I cant be bothered with it now so im looking for a new tab. Im needing (and I say needing as I have the worst tab in the house (my 5 & 7 year olds have better and my 73 yo mum has the best!) and im the most techy!! ) something better for as little cash as possible
Im thinking rockchip 3188 (better than an A31?). Thing is, some of my familys tabs use rk3066 and there are a HELL of a lot of apps that dont work on them NOT good for someone like me who runs a lot of apps.
I know the 3188 beats the a31 on paper, but, in the real world, if apps dont work on it then its very limited. Ive seen the posts about them rolling out 4.3 to the 3066 and 3188 but is that ALL devices?? I doubt it very much. So, what do I go for?
I was thinking a samsung? I have an S4 and an i3 laptop so seems like a samsung tab would be a follow on. They are expensive though, but, custom roms a plenty
Ive seen some spurious 3188 tabs on ebay but the spec means nowt without some real-world experience (compatible apps, rooting, cwm, etc)
Lets say I have a budget of £175 (id prefer £150 but to include Samsung stuff it needs to be a little higher), What would you guys say I should get?
I play games, use social media and also develop software. So im into all levels of android. What do you guys think is a good all-rounder for that money? My mums rk3066 10" cost £60 and has an Antutu benchmark of just over 10k so Im looking for over 20k+ for this money. Also, no 4.1 rubbish (As if any rk3066 running android 4.1 will EVER get an upgrade to 4.3, lol).
Freelanders look good as does a samsung tab, but, how much better are they than a cheaper chinese one for the money? I want cheap but dont want a crappy yaffs2 file system like the infotmic crap! Standard system with cwm/twrp option and custom rom option only
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated
Chris
