App problem, android wear... - Samsung Gear Fit

Hi,
"Android wear" app dont connect to my gear fit.
No bluetooth pairing works, because the GF is not listed.
Do you run android wear?

Android Wear? WTF? What are you talking about? Gear Fit has nothing to do with Android Wear.

"android waea" is an app, which we find in gear fit manager at "app connect".
So i think it must work for us.

in order to connect your samsung gear fit to your android phone you must download an app called "gear fit manager" if you have non samsung phone you will not find this app on google play store...you must download this app from an alternative site, and change the security of your phone to allow install third party apps.

gear fit wtf android wear
Your replies are nonsense. "Android Wear" is an app in the play store. It claims to be able to link your Google now info to your smart watch along with other features depending on which model you have. I myself have been trying to get it to pair for days. It sees my gear fit and is stuck in a connection loop. If you don't know the answer save your stupid OPINIONS that are not FACTS.

You mean this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.wearable.app ? If so, I wish you the best luck with trying.

This just wont work. The gear fit does not run android as its operating system. It is not an amdroid smart watch. if you want you can get Google Now notifications through the gear fit manager by selecting it in Notifications but it is not quite the same as what you are trying to do.

[Q] Apps for G Watch

Is there anyone who is working on apps for the LG G watch? I'm thinking about buying this smartwatch but at this point it can't do much things. It's only good for reading notifications and using Google now. I would like to see apps like on the Sony SW2 to read my e-mails or use a calculator maybe to send messages (voice typing not supports Hungarian language).

As far as I understand it, most apps tie into a built in API and are able to communicate with the Wear device without the need for any app to be installed on the Watch, they simply know a Wear device is connected and send the relevant info. We may not need to install any apps directly on the G watch.

And then why is the s400? I think nobody will play games on his watch.
They said that the Watch will be open to third-party apps dev. So yes, there will be apps, that's also why there's 4 gigs.
Top tip: When searching the Play store for apps, use the search string "android wear" (WITH quotes). Don't rely on the minimal selection that the Wear app itself returns.
Sent from Nexus 5 or 7.

[Q] Google Hangout and Gear S

Gear S is fancy a very portable device. However I discovered one of Tizen limitations while having the watch paired with my Galaxy Note 4 phone.
When I switched the sms app on my phone from the standard app to Google Hangout, then Gear S cannot relay messages from the phone to watch.
I realize this is do to Tizen os and not the phone and that there isn't a work around for this currently.
But theoretically how could you get Tizen OS on Gear S and Google Hangout and an Android phone to talk together?
Yea I'm wondering that as well, I hate the stock samsung message app

Its in many ways an awsome device. Talking to someone on the bus or train via the watch makes people stare. I even experience that after having recieved a call via the device while on train. This young woman approached me afterwards to ask about the device
However I wish some talented programmer could make an Android wear rom for the Galaxy gear S. So we could get rid of that awful Tizen OS.

Agee with that
What I did was delete the stock messaging apk or rename it by adding .bak to the end of the file name. Example xxxxxx.bak.
I then added contact widget for the most frequently text contacts. I read the incoming message then slide screen over the reply from the widget.

Brand new gear s--can't find the much-touted opera mini...

So. ..I may just be painfuly slow but I can't figure or how to install opera. Just set my gear up about an hour ago and looks awesome but I can't figure out how to get opera mini. Searched for it in the gear app store but couldn't find it anywhere. Only see gearweb.
Help?

On my device (phone) it's the second entry under "Gear Essentials" (make sure you scrolled down to the bottom of the categories) Cant immagine it matters, but I'm on a SGN4 so it *could* be device-specific but I rather doubt it.
Also, dont get your hopes up. It's great for a few things, but the number you immagine and the number that work are VERY different... mostly because webpages dont always resize, so you have to scroll over every few words. it takes ten minutes to read three lines... (but for other things where you only need to see one or two quick things, like checking your subs on a forum to see if you need to take your laptop out at lunch, it's great!)

That is so weird! It just. ..isn't there for me.
There is a gear essentials list, but opera isn't on it.
Any other ideas guys?
Yeah I don't see it either.
Joy of Galaxy App market Seriously, Samsung should not be in the business of managing its own app market.
I can search for Opera and it shows up for me and it is in the front page of the Gear App store for me as well as a recommended app for Gear S.
However, in the past I had a wonderful experience of not even able to see Gear Manager from Galaxy App store while still able to see it on another different phone. Samsung has too many phones and it just didn't know how to properly manage its app store, e.g. which app is available to which phone.
My guess is that it has been removed and only individuals who previously installed it can still access it.
The Samsung app store for Gear is organized based on country and phone model. When an app is not in the store, this can be caused by the country in which you live or by the phone connected with the Gear. The best you can do is send a message to the developer of the app and ask why you can't see it.
It's in the Gear Apps store for me and it's 'featured' on the main page of the store. I am in the United Kingdom. Maybe it's country specific.

Is the gear s the only smart watch paired to the phone??
I just bought the Gear S and it's connected to a S6 Edge, I also cannot see opera, I'm in the U.S.
So, it looks like you S6 Edge owners are out of luck.

I'm not the one have problem here.
Apparently, now with this Gear S not being able to fully function I'm wondering if it's worth keeping.
I'm liking it for the most part, but I really dislike this aspect.
Is there any other way to install apps on a Gear S?
Not that I know of. You can connect the watch to an older Samsung phone to install it but you can't connect back to your shiny new S6 Edge because it will reset your watch and loss everything, including the Opera. Or you can simply wait for Samsung to fix its app market.
On the other hand, I'm never a fan of Opera mini on the watch. It is not that useful at all. The tiny screen makes browsing random web page almost impossible. And the fact that no Opera Mini can ever support public wifi hotspots that require a sign in page makes it even more useless.
Thanks for the replies, appreciate all the help.
Guess all this new gear is to new for samsung or the app devs.

Developing apps for Gear Fit 2?

Is it possible to develop apps or watchfaces and distribute by Samsung store for new Gear Fit 2? Some developer can confirm that or not?
Yes you can. Just need to sign up through the Samsung Tizen developer site and then build the apps/watches faces to the store.

space below music player on gear fit 2 drop down menu
The Gear Fit 2 drop down menu has an empty rectangle below where it says music player. I wish this could be assignable or at least let you tap home. In order to go home in a lot of cases you have to hit the home button. I wish you could swipe and tap your way through on the screen itself.

There's no support from the Tizen Studio (installed latest version 1.1.0). So, there's no template, you'll have to start from scratch. There's also no Emulator template either. There's great examples included, incl. native app which shows how access sensors (runs great in the emulator). The Fit2 is fully Tizen RTOS compatible. I tried to use one of the S2 examples to make it Fit2 compatible. Not luck, W/o a working template and a working emulator I give up...
So at this moment we can't really develop apps unless we know how to make it from scratch? No help for amateurs?

Correct, Samsung policy, buy at your own risk...
The screen res is 216x432. I made layout pics to use with the emulator. The db-file is the button assignment file. But haven't figured out yet, how everything works together.

Such a shame. It has lot of potential. Decent hardware and software that offers a lot as well. Could you please let me/us know if you figure something out? If Samsung doesn't want to help me use my watch to its full potential, I would happily spend my time doing that myself.

Success, partially...
I got an emulator working, BUT the screen settings are not ok, screen elements are being cut off, have to investigate...
Somebody interested helping me?
Emulator running: http://imgur.com/Uzdk0zB
Settings cut-off: http://imgur.com/nYeKZLi
Settings itself ok: http://imgur.com/pBaPrEk
Power Off ok too: http://imgur.com/Ir0p5sd
Both buttons (back and Home) are working.
If I find a way to make the emulator robust, no screen cut-off I can transfer sample apps from Gear S2 to Fit2. That's the first steps of developing own apps for this thing.

This looks promising. I would gladly help but I don't think that I would be of any use with my lack of skills.
I have Neonto studio installed which looks like an easy way of creating apps but I could not figure out how to get the app on my watch. Probably because there is no emulator for it in Tizen Studio.

You need the Tizen Studio to get apps onto the watch. In developer mode.
There's no template for this watch for Tizen Studio, so the interfaces are not declared (API to sensors), the screen resolution is not set (see my cut-off settings screen) and the GUI elements are not defined (swipe, L/R. D/U, no ring like Gear S2). I doubt that there'll be apps for this watch until some skilled person adds this to the SDK...
if somebody is interested I can send them what i did so far, it'll save some time in doing the emulator templates.

Three questions/requests:
1. What SDK did you use for Gear Fit 2? Wearable 2.3 or 2.3.1 or is there one for Gear Fit 2?
2. Are you able to push your app/project into your Gear Fit 2 via debug mode or something?
3. Would you be able to share your sample project that is tested to work on Gear Fit 2?
Best regards!

Hi only started to experiment today with my new fit 2. And got a hello tizen app on the fit 2. I was only following the samsung step by step guide.
1.) Used 2.3.2
2.) Yes, debug mode is working
Now i need to investigate how to build a minimal ui. I want to build a small app, that unlocks my smart door lock.
1.) enable wifi
2.) wait until connected to my router
3.) get thet state of the lock
4.) send the unlock command
5.) close app and disable wifi
So i'm able to go running without any additional key or phone.

I think I know the reason now, I downloaded the Tizen SDK 2.4 not the Tizen Studio 1.1.1 so now I have the 2.3.2 option. =D

Nice. That's exactly what I would like to use my watch for. I don't have a smart door lock but I'm planning on getting one in the future. Right now I wish I was able to make an app for MacID or a simple shopping list/reminder app
Great idea - I am starting research to try something similar

If you make any progress, I'd be keen to hear, and I'm happy to share what I get done too.
I will probably look at it sometime over the next month when I have time as I am a complete noob to Tizen.
I never thought to have the watch directly open the door (but now I am going to copy that idea - thanks), originally I just wanted to have the watch trigger phone to open door (to avoid getting phone out to open door) I previously had tasker detecting the phone shaking trigger my door unlock, but It would be much neater to get the watch to do that instead.
Door unlock is simple https request with authentication token.

Gear Fit 2 will not connect to Gear App

Hi everyone, I was super excited to try out my new Gear Fit 2 (ordered from Best Buy in the US), but heartbreakingly it will not actually connect to my phone. I am on a Galaxy S 6 running the original OS, but the tricky part is that it is from a Japanese provider (DoCoMo). It did not occur to me that the Gear Fit 2 would not work with this phone, but it will not sync with the required Samsung Gear App. The app downloads (I don't know if it matters but I retained the US version of the app store so I could keep my puzzle and dragons profile). The phone can see the watch, and they do the fun Bluetooth pin exchange, but then the app throws an error message that says "Check if your device is compatible and if the app needs to be updated" and then the process won't proceed any further. I have factory reset my phone, uninstalled my old Gear Fit and old Gear Fit manager app, reset the watch, all to no avail. I contacted Samsung customer support and they told me that since I am on a Japanese S6 they can't help me because they are US customer support, instead providing me with a useless link to the Japanese Samsung Products page. I know the GF2 has not launched in JP yet (at least through DoCoMo, but I can't believe that my new toy is absolutely useless. In other news, all of this fiddling around made it so that the old Gear Fit Manager app will not connect to my old Gear Fit anymore so I am now using a 3rd party app which is not quite the same. Any advice is appreciated, otherwise I guess I will ride this out until the GF2 launvhes here and maybe an update will e forthcoming.
PS: there are two reviews in Japanese in the Samsung app market for the new Gear App. They are both very bad reviews stating that the app will not connect o their various devices.
Idk. Just sad and wanting to vent.

I tried to find that app, but the only one that shows up in the Google play store for me it the one for Samsung phones and when I Google the link for the nonsamsung device app, it shows but when I follow it, the play store still redirects me back to the samsung version. I DID try to use a 3rd party app with the Gear Fit 2, but it still wouldn't maintain a connection. Thanks for the response though.
I find myself in the same boat as you - very very frustrating. I researched the compatibility, and based on the specs they SHOULD work - no good reason that they wouldn't. Sooooo frustrating!!!
Finally got it running on docomo galaxy s5 unrooted
Here's how
1. Install 'Samsung Accessory Service' (apk search and download)
2. 'Gear Manager' Installation (from the Google play)
3. 'GearFit2 Plugin: installation of (apk search and download)
Did it in this order and it worked.
Enjoy
Thanks Tony!
I was using a Galaxy S6 edge from Japan and had these problems, and manually installing the accessory service and fit2 plugin worked like a charm. Was on the phone for 2 hours with Samsung's customer service and got nothing.
