I recommend installing Titanium Backup Pro >> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackupPro&hl=en << what this app cannot do isn't worth knowing about Seriously it is a safe way to freeze/delete your system apps also convert normal apps to system apps and 100s of other uses. You can freeze apps from your system same as uninstalling but with the added benefit of not messing your system up and also keeping the app. Also you can convert Quickpic to a system app or whatever app you want to convert.

Have you tried going to Settings>Apps>All,Gallary (you need to unfreeze first) and tap Clear Defaults then choose Quickpick as your default.(Then refreeze) If this doesn't help, then it might not be possible to change that default .

I made a Xposed module that fixes that on S5. You may want to try it on your device. If it doesn't work, I can check it to see if it's possible to support it as well. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-samsung-camera-gallery-fix-t2988640

[Q] Can't Connect to Camera! NEED HELP FAST

I am the proud owner of a SGS3
But I'm not the biggest fan of touchwiz and I love everything about 4.2!
So like many others, I flash a 4.2 custom ROM. AOKP 4.2 build 2, to be exact.
After flashing, I loved it. Everything about it was just perfect. It was fast, light, easy to use, and FAST! But then I go to take a picture. And boom.
"Can't Connect to Camera"
I had no idea what to do, so I did the first thing that comes to mind. reboot. But sadly, this solved nothing. So of course I re-flash my touchwiz ROM to see if the ROM was the problem. And the Touchwiz camera worked perfectly. Later on when I had time, I tested it out again, and had the same problem. So I downloaded a camera app, and same thing. I even flashed a different Camera.zip for God's sake! I've searched for the past week for fixes and every one I tried just failed! So now I'm really done with Touchwiz and want to customize the look and feel of my phone (which is one of the reasons I like AOKP!)
It seems that my camera only works on Touchwiz ROMs! :crying:
I also tried another ROM this time running 4.1.2 thinking maybe it was just a bug in 4.2! But sadly, the same error message.
I am open to ANY ideas right now and would be very thankful for some replys.
I NEED TO GET OFF OF TOUCHWIZ AND BACK TO 4.2!
Thank you as always!
EDIT: So I think I figured out the problem. I was flashing a 4.2 camera .zip file and i guess it was messing up the permissions. So I disabled it. Now it is working perfectly so far. Yesterday i switched over to a 4.1.2 ROM hoping it would fix it and so then i flashed this 4.2 camera and then after about a day of use, it messed up the permissions.
So to fix it if anyone is have that problem, disable the camera app you flashed, reboot into recovery, ADVANCED - FIX PERMISSIONS
all done.

If I uninstall gallery apk which is including camera aaplication, how I will make a shoot ?
hye
actually, what application did you dissable?from the touchwiz or the custom rom?
well, it works for me, thanks a lot dude.
This is a file permissions problem, between the camera and the gallery apps. It is fixable, I had the ability to force a 'fix permissions on boot' in init.d, but are various ways to do it.

Probably you can't use with just an apk, it needs some different libraries.Try an 3rd party app.

I did too, but it's one of these debloaters that makes gallery crash.
Wssyncmlnps also crashes.
I guess I need to reinstall Mod57's rom and debloat one by one untill I find which makes them crash.
For me stock modification for USB charging (Stock_kernel_init.d_support_usb_charge.zip) did not work.
Files /system/etc/init.d/usb_charging seems to be not created, so after boot there is no file /sys/class/power_supply/battery/force_usb_charging (which should have the value "1").
Did someone succeed in making it work ?

Hi,
I didn't find any ROM on the net for your phone, but this may be a good news for you! I found a device with same SoC as your device which has MIUI ROM. Here
Here is a guide on how to port it! Try it, it may work. I think it will as porting between 2 same MTK SoC's is really easy!
Cheers!

Well, what's wrong with your stock ROM? You can dump the system and/or make a nandroid backup in any custom recovery.

Basically , i was running the standard rom that came with my phone , i changed to NOVA launcher , but the phones normal launcher was still running the background.....so i rooted the phone and froze the original launcher that came with the phone as it was draining the battery.........anyway , i found the phone was running a bit slow , i had installed various apps etc..........Sooooo i thought , just reset the phone .....so because i did not unfreeze the original launcher , when it came to resetting , the phone now has no launcher due to me freezing it !
It looks as if most of the rom is still there as it does load up , it checks for sim cards etc but then stops at that point , even the phone signals come up.
So do you think it is worth using CWM to still back up the rom and use for porting to MIUI Jiake V8 version ?
If so , what command in CWM do i use to make a rom for using in porting .
Thank you for your help.

In the android recovery (3e) i have the option of Apply update from ADB
i have the following other options
reboot system now
apply update from adb
apply update from sdcard
apply update from cache
wipe data factory reset
wipe cache
backup user data
restore user data
Do i simply backup user data for my rom to port to MIUI ? or is there a simple way using the ADB update ?
With the ADB for the launcher update , how would i do that and how would the system pick up on my choice of launcher ? would i need to edit some lines of code to point towards my choice ?
Thank you for your help.

Thank you for this , i had not tried to do this , yes i can get into my settings on my phone.... i wiped all the cache etc in the rocovery mode , then rebooted the phone , i then side swiped down to get into my settings.....i set up my google account...but when i load google playstore it just seems to hang...with the loading screen....i can even launch the browser from settings via the Apps setting menu....everything is working...but still no launcher....
i'm still a bit stuck on how to side load something like Nova launcher , so i can get my phone fully funcational again
I had hoped that with been able to set up my google account etc , the google store would of worked , then i could of just downloaded a launcher !
But hey i think i am getting somewhere today with this phone
Oooooooooh wow , thank you for the side swipe idea.....i cleared the data for the googlestore via the app settings , re-ticked the agree to google terms and conditions , then downloaded nova launcher !!!! looks as if things are working a bit better again
Brilliant i have even rebooted the phone and it loads straight to NOVA launcher
Can i still unfreeze the old launcher do you think ?
I would still like to convert to MIUI though

Nice to hear, that you got your phone working again!
Well, I would now copy the nova launcher to system/app and give rw-r-r permissions to it, so you won'z get problems again!

Yes, you can. Well, If you don't have an actual stock ROM then it's not that easy to port it. As you have to make a nandroid backup, then convert it into flashable ZIP. But you actually need to set the right mount points for your device in the updater-script. And I don't know how to find that out. So I would be statisfied with stock ROM!

Problems with excess apps

I have a problem with excess apps like Google Films/Google music etc. i dont use them and need.
I would like to install pico Gapps and cant. i did brick my phone 2 times today. Would like somone to help me.
You cannot flash Google app packs on Touchwiz ROM (but I'm not 100% sure ) If you want to remove these apps install ES File Explorer or something similar, give it root privileges, find tab with system apps and uninstall ones you don't want.
