[Q] Data Sim on my Gear S - Samsung Gear S

Hi, i am planning to buy this watch but here are my concerns:
I'm planning to put my data sim on the Gear S and my company is having 2 APNs, one for WORK and one for INTERNET, so one of my question is, Can i set two APNs on gear S and interchange with it quickly?
My other question is, when my gear S has a 3g sim on it(only data sim) and my phone does not have internet, when i pair my phone WITHOUT INTERNET, will it have an internet thru my gear S data sim?
thanks.

Unfortunatley, you can't tether your phone to your Gear S for data: in this scenario, you will have data on your Gear S, but not on your phone, unless someone figured out a work-around for this.
This scenario makes the most usage sense to me, BTW: have all the connectivity on your wrist, and use a tablet or phone if you need a larger screen. I'd ditch my phone and just keep a tablet. The battery of the current Gear S would not last very long used this way, though.
In regards to 2 APN's, you can easily set them up. Mine has two settings: one for data and one for MMS. You have to select to have data always on, or be disconnected from your phone, in order to get into the greyed out Gear S settings for APNs. I am however not sure if the watch saves the two settings, so you can switch back and forth easily. Hope someone else can answer this. My guess is yes, because I can "add" a new APN, not just "edit" the current one under data.

Thanks, regards with editing apn, is it via watch or via phone(gear manager)?

Via the watch itself.

Not sure about swapping apns, it is enuff of a headache swapping sim cards from the phone to the watch.

[Q] data not turning on

hi there
my gf bought a htc legend when we were living in australia on vodafone network and all worked fine.we have just come back to the uk and have put a new sim in on 3 network.it will make calls text and conect to wifi but will not allow data traffic it just says connecting on the mobile data tab but never does.the sim card allows data has i have tried it in my phone.
any ideas of what i need to do,is it because its from australia, will it work over in the uk,should it,or do i need to do something to the phone to allow data,
any help would be good.
thanks
is the phone unlocked? can it run another sim other then the vodafone one?
or in youre new location youre still on vodafone network?
most likely the phone doesn`t know how to configure the apn for the data
google your network`s android apn and go to settings wireless networks mobice connection set apn create a new one or change the existing one while the phones mobile connection is turned on
Yep, I can confirm this problem may be fixed by identifying and filling in your APN for your network.
I had the same problem, as well, this fixed it.
Thanks allot for the help guys, done it and it works fine now.

Using iPad Sim in Note

I'm trying to use my iPad sim (converted into a regular sim card) in my note, but I am unable to use the APN "broadband". Everytime I create that APN, it will automatically delete it off the list. It seems like AT&T is blocking that APN from being used. Is this possible, or a way around this?
Thanks
Try using "phone" as the apn

the only apn ipads have is broadband.... some older prepaid unlimited ones have isp.cingular as the apn
yeah...only APN iPads can use is "broadband". Anyone know how to bypass this?

Are you rooted? I don't have an answer, but I suspect the solution involves being rooted and freezing an AT&T management .apk that is deleting any APNs that you add.

Yes, I am currently running TPC NOTE V2.
My first contribution to the forum
I got the ATT Note last weekend off second hand, so no contract.
I want to use it primarily as a tablet with data plan (google voice can serve as phone if needed). So I want to try iPad data plan.
I got my iPad sim activated for a monthly plan, but as members noted, that for some reason, the new APN setting can not be saved for some reason (can we blame ATT?). So you can not use the iPad sim directly.
I tried couple of ways, and finally figured out how to do it on my Note:
(1) Create the new APN as previously instructed (call it "iPad" or whatever), with "phone" as the APN setting. Save it.
(2) On the APN list, select the new one, so the default AT&T PTA is grey out, and the new one ("iPad") is on.
(3) Now, change the APN from "phone" to "Broadband" (Sorry I forgot this important step last night!)
(4) Then, instead of saving the change (which would fail), I jumped out of the setting and go straight to home, then web browser to click a link. It might give you an error the first time, but when I clicked the link again, it would eventually start working, and the 4G icon showed up on the top menu.
I wen back to APN setting. Found the new setting "iPad" was gone. However, I did notice the default APN setting (AT&T PTA) remained grey out (not selected).
So, it seems if you force off the default setting, you can go straight to 4G network with iPhone's data plan.
I disabled the cellular network and reactivated it. The connection still worked, so hopefully it will last.
[Update]: Sorry I forgot the important step (3). I tried again, and the whole process works. Yes, I have the phone unlocked already for T-Mobile use (paid $25 online to get the unlock code. Not sure if it is necessary for AT&T data sim card, though).
i think
I think your note has to be unlocked .thats only way
iPad Sim
I am using iPad SIM in note and its working fine. I don't get LTE but HSPA Speeds. I picked new SIM from AT&T Store for my iPad and activated under different email now using it with $30 3GB Plan. I have 'broadband' as apn. My note is unlocked running SAUROM RC 6. I had issues with RC 7 so reverted back.

It just can't be on an AT&T based rom. Since Saurom rom is based off of Rogers, the apn "broadband" will work. Has nothing to do with unlock, it's the software that prevents you from using that APN.

You are now able to use LTE on the note since AT&T now has a plan for the "New iPad". You just need to change the plan in the online management. Just change the IMEI to the "New iPad". The APN will still be broadband.
I found a IMEI from some person selling it on eBay

Data Roaming not working on Android

Hi guys, I'm having this bizarre problem that I hope you could help me with.
I currently have an iPhone 5S, SGS4 and HTC One and share a single sim card between all three phones.
In my home country my SIM card is able to access data on all 3 phones with no problem.
However, when I go abroad and use data roaming, only the iPhone is able connect, both android phones are unable to connect at all.
I checked the APN settings and all seem to be correct.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Have you enabled data roaming in settings..!??
If you are using a custom rom you can find it in settings - - > more - - >mobile networks... Tick the data roaming option... I've never tried data roaming as I don't travel much... But that might help you..! [emoji106]

Yup it's ticked for sure. On the HTC it says that APN settings are incorrect, on the Samsung the phone just refuses to connect. If I move the SIM to the iPhone, data roaming works flawlessly!
When I'm back home, I have zero problems with either phone, which leads me think this is either an Android problem, or a SIM card problem.

Then I guess it has something to do with APN's... Maybe it requires different APN's for roaming... And somehow iPhone has them by default and android doesn't.... Contact your service provider and get the apns..!! That's my best bet.... Good luck

Pre-pay SIM Options

Wanting to buy the Gear S but without a monthly paid subscription from a carrier (because they oblige me to sign the contract for 2 years, and i know I am not going to keep the Gear S that much time) , but i want to know what options should i request for the pre-paid SIM.
More internet or more voice minutes or more SMS?
the transfer from phone to watch (when not connected through BT) is made through data transfer or through voice? the paid subscription does not specify that.
nobody knows what type of communication the watch uses, except BT?

Your questions are a little confusing.
If your watch it connect to bluetooth on phone then everything uses phone. Data voice everything. If its not. Connected to phone it can use wifi or mobile data

i do not understand your answer.
ok, than let me rephrase.
if the watch is not connected to the phone through BT (due to the fact that the phone is away from the watch), how the notifications are sent from phone to watch? through data transfer or through voice transfer?
the pre-pay SIM used in watch allow me to choose between 1gb of data transfer or 1000 voice minutes per month.

When you place phone calls it will use minutes. When you use internet for browsing or syncing remotely or dowloading it will use data. Trade off is personal choice. Personally i would go with minutes since i have a sim for emergency only. However i went with a payg that gives me a little of both.

Unless the two devices are on the same carrier you'll be using all 3.. Minutes, sms and data. The gear doesn't use much data but u can get all 3 pretty cheap on prepaid

out of curiosity, what does being on the same carrier have to do with anything?

Well if you already have a plan with them you can just add the gear for $5-$10 a month without a contract. And some carriers have unlimited calling/sms between prepaid & postpaid accounts which would give you unlimited forwarding. The data part is trickier but I'm on an at&t account with the watch and it has used under 50mb in almost 30 days.
my devices will be on the same carrier. i will chose the option for unlimited minutes and SMS and use wifi and phone data transfer..

Vodafone Smart Ultra 7 APNs

Hi all, Hoping someone can help.
I've got a Vofafone Smart Ultra 7, direct from Vodafone. Didn't need unlocking as other vendors sim worked from the off.
The phone came with 2 APN's be default, Vodafone contract, and Vodafone PAYG.
However I have a problem. I've manually created my Talkmobile APN (for UK), I can't edit/delete or anything other than view the 2 standard APN's that came on the phone. I've selected my talkmobile APN as default, and this works. I can then come and go as I please and use data.
However very frequently (maybe 50% of the time), when I leave a wireless signal area (eg home or work), I keep my talk mobile GSM connection for voice and sms, but I get no internet, I get a signal with exclamation mark (!). I have to then go into my APN's and choose one of the two vodafone defaults, wait a few seconds for it to decide it's not the right connection, then re-select my talk mobile. At this point I get my data signal back and am able to use internet data services.
I might as well just have wireless and no data on the phone for the frequency it's happening.
Any idea's? the phone's only 2 months old, and Vodafone are worse than useless, they only want to support mobile phone contracts, not their own hardware.
Thanks.
