Maps 9.2.0 missing "Voice Level" option - Xperia Z3 Compact Themes and Apps

I just got the Maps 9.2.0 update (officially from the Play Store)
You can read about it here:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...oice-level-auto-corrects-misspelled-searches/
There's supposed to be an option to adjust the volume of the guidance voice called "Voice Level," but I don't seem to have it on my Z3 (stock firmware 77). Does anyone else have this option? To check, go to Maps > (hamburger) > Settings > Navigation settings > Voice Level.

Bump?

Same here. French version, stock rom.

I do not have this option when I open the maps app. I searched the help section in maps and voice level is listed as a beta feature only on *some* android devices 4.4 kitkat and above. Instructions for use in the help section state "while navigating". Perhaps you must actually have navigation going (select destination and route>start navigation) in order for the option to appear in the settings?
*edit: the tilt option is there while NOT navigating. I will have to test my theory next time I am in the car.

Thanks but the option unfortunately still doesn't show up. I assume I could get it to work with a build.prop edit, but I don't want to unlock my bootloader =_=

Change bluetooth voice app??

Does anybody know of a way to change the bluetooth voice dialling app?
I would rather have "Voice Actions" launch than the default Vlingo voice app when I use my bluetooth kit, but I can't find a way to change the app that opens.
Does anyone know of a way? I would rather not root but will consider it if that's the only way.
Thanks
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> look for Vlingo, select it and "Clear Defaults".
Next time you start the dialer it'll hopefully ask what you want as default, set it to voice search and tick the box.
You can also go to settings -> voice input+output and select the app you want to process voice input. Vlingo's processor seems to work much better than Google's, YMMV.

Tried that already; vlingo isn't listed but I looked at the voice commands app and there's no.option to clear defaults. Also I can change the speech engine in voice input+output but not the app itself.
Any other ideas?
Anyone?
If there's any way to do this someone on XDA must know, this place is like the pool of all knowledge when it comes to hacking devices to do what we want them to do
---
I just realised that the earlier poster (knightnz) was probably using a custom ROM - so, presumably, if I root and install a custom ROM I will be able to change the bluetooth app, I just can't do it on Samsung's ROM? I repeat that there is no option to "clear defaults" in the default voice commands app on Samsung's ROM.
If so, I might root.
Thanks in advance for any answers

[Q] How can I disable updates for specific apps in the market?

It used to be the market would separate apps that were approved for auto update from those that had disabled auto update set. One could then simply hit the Update All (for the group) button and it would update ONLY the apps that were auto update enabled. Over the past few months Play Store has changed their behavior in that it no longer separates the apps and will only enable auto updates for everything or nothing.
How can I hide or otherwise prevent these few apps that I do not want to update from being in the play store update list? As it is now, I have to selectively update each individual app from the list, skipping the few apps I do not want updated.
Thanks,
Currently on a Samsung GS3, rooted, stock.

did you ever find a solution to this ?
Actually yes,... I think. I'd suggest making backups of your apps (TitaniumBU or other).
Open Play Store
Menu: Settings
Enable Auto Updates (Mine is set to when on WIFI only)
Go back to main Play store page.
Menu: My Apps
Under Installed, locate any app that you wish to change and select it, this opens the App Details page.
Menu: Auto-update untick the checkbox.
Still trying to confirm this condition: Seems that if you manually update an app that is not set to auto-update, it will possibly reset the auto-update flag to 'Enabled'

Hi!
Sorry to bump this old thread, but I am kind of fighting with a similar issue, my problem is,
the apps I don't want to auto update are google apps(Keep/Youtube/Gtalk), which are replaced
by black counterparts from Team Blackout(with exception of Gtalk, I just don't like Hangouts)
and of course there is no "disable auto update" option with google system apps.
As of this date, I can see no valid option for selectively update the installed app catalogue, this
might be a decision from Google's part to push out the obsolete apps by force, which is understandable,
but I think there should be an option to have this feature.
Now at this point I am updating the apps manually app by app, and of course
with about 200 plus apps installed a complete PITA.
Thanks for any answers at this point, and this is my first post here btw, please be kind.

I found this thread looking for a way to selectively disable auto-update. I found that by going to the Play Store on my phone (under settings, I already had auto update on wifi only enabled), selecting apps/my apps, then choosing a specific app, then touching the soft menu key brings up a checkbox for auto -update. Uncheck to disable auto-update. This works for Google apps too like Hangouts, GMail (2 apps that I checked), etc.

Up until a day or two ago, I found the same thing - I could hit the soft menu button in the Play Store, and there would be an option to check or uncheck Auto-Update for that specific App. But I just checked again, wanting to take advantage of that, and it didn't come up any more.
Can anybody confirm that this functionality is gone again?
I'm on Verizon, with a Stock 4.2.2 Galaxy Note 3, non-rooted.
Thanks.
ETA: I rebooted my phone, and the ability to check/uncheck auto-update with the soft menu is back. Strange, but at least it's there again.
Disable updates for specific app - COMPLETLY
Hello,
I found this thread - title says it all.
I have Google Maps 7.5.0 installed, therefore it's listed in "Updates" all the time.
I do not have automatic updates activated, but i like to use the "update all" button in the play store.
Is there a way to disable the listing of Google Maps in "Updates"?
Thanks!

I don't think you can disable that display in Google Play. It knows what apps you have and will let you know when there is an update for them, whether you want to know or not! The main thing is that you can generally decide whether you want the update or not. I prefer it that way. It gives me a choice.

Yes, I like that it's reminding me of updates.
But the new version of the app is not working for me and if I hit the updated-all button on accident, I have to reverse the app again. Happens too often. Would be awesome to have a checkbox á la "Don't display updates for this app"

Yes, it did the trick for a while - and the app (Facebook app - the old version which did not have the annoying bugs) I detached from the market vanished from the available updates list. But the very next morning it was back in the same list :crying::crying:
That's right, it only works for a couple of hours. Haven't found another solution

Are there any other methods besides APKtool to resign?

I think I have found the simple answer:
1. In Google Play Store settings enable all applications to update automatically on wi-fi.
2. Next, individually click each of the apps you do not want to update automatically. On each app's update page, there is a menu button on the top right corner. Click it and deselect auto update for that app.
Now all these disabled apps will not auto update along with the other generally permitted apps.
Cheers.

APP: Modeswitch+Spotify SWC-Control+ Voice Dialing

After a lot of work I am presenting you my app to do the following: modeswitch / Spotify Control from SWC, voice dial using Google now.
Requirements:
1. Huifei type (MTCB) head unit
2. Root access
3. Mtc-keys module (thanks MVG-V70)
4. Android 4.4+ Rom
5. For Voice Dialing using Google Now:
a. Headunit service ( thanks Petrows)
b. True contacts app( download inside headunit service), and enter your contacts manually/ sync with Google account ,transfer or restore from phone
Features:
1. acts as HW- SWC-Modeswitch ( radio, music, DVD, Spotify, 2 custom apps)
2. Respects audio Focus of the currently active app. Opening one app mutes/kills audio coming from other apps. (Works for Radio, Music, DVD, Spotify regardless how was the app started, for the two custom apps works only if they are started through mode-Button). (To be fixed in Version 2.1)
3. Control Spotify using next/previous of the steering wheel buttons , regardless how spotify was opened.
4. Disable DVD/ Music/ Spotify in the mode circle.
5. Navigation monitor: If this option is activated, the screen returns in your preferred Navi-App after switching the Mode, if the navi app was already running. Select which Navi-App you are using, or add the package name of the app manualy.
6. it starts playing music automatically in Spotify
7. for devices lacking HW Modeswitch button: either you map an other button as Modeswitch or it can run as sw modeswitch ( as of now the latter will brake the spotify control functionality-- will try to fix it later)
8. Act as a bridge between headunit service from Petrows and Google now to do voice dialing.
Installation:
1. Install and activate MTC-keys ( see its threat for details)
2. Install and activate headunit service from Petrows, inside the app settings activate call from android and install true contacts app.
3. Sync or add contacts to the true contacts app
4. Reboot device
5. Install my app and run it
6. Give Root access to the app when you will ask to
Setup
On the first app launch, it opens app settings with following options:
A. Select to include DVD, Spotify, Music in the mode app list. Add until 2 custom apps if you want.
B. Activate software Modeswitch (if its activated, running the app from app drawer will change the mode)
C. Enter the SWC button code of the Modeswitch button ( default is 2, you can map any other button as well)
D. Choose to monitor your navigation, choose one option or enter navi app package manually
E. Activate or disable voice dialing
F. SAVE SETTINGS
TO OPEN SETTINGS AGAIN ONCE THE SETTINGS ARE SET DELETE APP DATA (ANDROID SETTINGS->APPS->MODESWITCH->Clear DATA) and rerun the app.
6. ONLY IF YOU HAVE A MODESWITCH BUTTON OR WANT TO MAP AN OTHER ONE BUTTON TO ACT AS MODESWITCH:
edit mtc-keys.ini and add this line:
app_XX = com.myapp.modeswitch
XX is the value of modeswitch button code you entered in my app settings, default is 2
How it works:
1, To change mode, just press the modeswitch button (or run the application if you selected software mode in the settings)
2, To make a call: open google now, and say : call "contact name"
Bugs:
1. there is a nag screen if you do a voice call (mobile network is not available) but it doesn't affect the app, so for now it left there.
2. You tell me....
Thanks to:
Petrows (headunit service)
MVG-V70 for MTC-Keys @talalalal for the voice dialing
and everyone that helped me

V 1.01 Increase waiting time to autoplay spotify
V 1.2:
MtcDvd can be removed from the mode circle
Mtcmusic can be removed from the mode circle
Spotify can be removed from the mode circle

Fixed DVD not turning off while changing mode
Now opening Radio, Music, DVD, Spotify from the app drawer, respects audio focus and quits audio from other sources.
Spotify control now works regardless how was spotify started (Modeswitch, SWC Button, HU Button, App Drawer)
Please uninstall previous version before installing the new version. On the first run set the settings. You need the package name of the custom apps you would like to add ( without .apk eg for pcradio com.maxxt.pcradio

Hey p_mike83, This is exactly what I was looking for!
Unfortunately didnt get it to work.
To help you further in development or if you have any tips:
JY VQ125 RK3188 16GB unit with Malaysk FUSE ROM of jan 2016.
First I also had car service app running as well to control spotify.
When mode switching didnt work I turned it off as well as as many standard apps trying to get spotify to be your main music player in xposed module or android settings.
It might just be that I don't get mtc-keys to work. Will be doing more tests tomorrow!
On the bright side: voice dialer worked! (now only I have to set google to my native language since it doesnt get all the weird names in dutch )
Keep it up!

Thanks for your comment. I did not try the fuse ROM from malaysk yet, I am on the one before the last. I had with that rom problems settings up mtc-keys. I had to put the mtc-keys folder on an ext SD as on the internal did not work. ( the sdcard is in the GPS slot). On stock rooted ROM it worked on internal sdcard as well.
At the moment the MTC-keys module is needed, as I did not manage to overtake the function of modeswitch without it as the original modeswitch continues to work along with mine. ( leading in disaster).
And stg more, you have to make sure than in my app settings you entered the keyboard code of your modeswitch button ( default is 2)
Wow, just downloaded this app so i could use my unit as a real handsfree calling system, and now works like a charm! Set up google app to always listen to "ok google" so i can place a call without going into the app. The only problem is that the unit has to be connected to the internet, even with the downloaded languages. Is there any way to fix that? Not much of a problem as i have set up a profile on my phone so whenever it connects to the unit through bluetooth it starts the wifi hotspot, so the unit will connect and everything fine, but if offline was possible, less data the unit would use through the phone, as well as less battery the phone would use too. Last night I also tried offline recognition but failed on my unit. I have some ideas to try , maybe I find a workaround.
As of the nag, i will try to remove it in future versions, since it doesn't affect the functionality of the app.
OK I got it working too!
It was indeed the FUSE version that kept mtc-keys from working.
Placing the folder to your external SD AND deleting the one on internal SD did the trick.
Issues I can come up with:
- since my head unit has 2 mute buttons I figured I'd use one - the right tuning knob on push - to mode switch. But sometimes the unit still mutes. Can't yet tell when, sometimes it picks up the mute and unmutes it it seems.
- spotify does not auto play. Is there maybe a way you need to setup spotify? Perhaps we can tweak it to play a certain playlist as well ie.: Data: spotify:user:<USER ID>laylist:<PLAYLIST ID>lay (some tasker input details, perhaps they help or inpire you)
- lastly, is there a way to exclude music from the mode cycle? Since I use spotify as my main music source there's no need for the unit to cycle radio - music - spotify - radio etc.?
Tnx again! Love tweaking this sort of thing till we get it perfect!

do those mute buttons share the same button code? check that you entered the correct code in the app settings
spotify should autoplay if you open it with modeswitch, without needing you to setup anything. it continues to play the last played album/playlist. Maybe your unit needs a little more time opening spotify, so that the play command does not work. Do you have a RK3066 device maybe?
i will think about an option to play a certain playlist, but for now there are other more important things to do. Anyway you can search an artist/song etc with google now as well.
As for the option to disable music, i had it implemented in an earlier version of my app but removed it, cause i thought that it will not be necessary. i can add a switch for that as well, or maybe to choose from a butch of music apps (eg jetaudio)
what do you all think?
Do you have any other suggestions?

6. ONLY IF YOU HAVE A MODESWITCH BUTTON OR WANT TO MAP AN OTHER ONE BUTTON TO ACT AS MODESWITCH:
edit mtc-keys.ini and add this line:
app_XX = com.myapp.modeswitch
2. You tell me....

new version updated, with increased waiting time to auto start playing spotify.
Maybe you have to clean app data and set the settings again to take effect.
Please comment if it worked for you.

Will check the update tomorrow!
Btw I have a RK3188 so I dont think speed is the issue.
Also the mute buttons both have a different keys, still haven't figured out how they work exactly.
I'm thinking spotify start may also have to do with spotify not beeing in offline modus. Changed it, again will report manana.

yes i saw later that you mention you have a 3188 JY unit. i am also using spotify online, and it used to auto play. anyway i have set the waiting time to ca 5 seconds, i think is enough for spotify to open. but remember, a playlist/album on spotify should have beeing played before (anytime), otherwise spotify doesnt know what to play !

Hey Mike, I'm not sure what the intended behouviour is. When playing a playlist in shuffle play on spotify, then switching to radio and some time later back again, does not resume playback of spotify. I guess thats not working for anyone or is it? It's not a huge problem for me, love the mode switching button anyway Pressing shuffle play is no big deal.
However I suspect some other app interfering with spotify too. Since it comes up as standard player and pops up sometime as well. I'll try to sort this out first before testing further.
Btw I had a very busy weekend so no time to check the update yet.

i tested also a playlist, and its start playing automatically after switching to spotify. i am not using any other app that can set the default media player (eg xposedmtc).
what do you mean : Since it comes up as standard player and pops up sometime as well. ?
Great work p_mike83, voice dialing working perfect now thanks
Did you create the app in Tasker? If so, would you mind sharing your Tasker files with me? I have a Tasker project just now that allows me to reply to SMS messages in the headunit but I was interested in seeing how you pull the number for the contact so I could try implementing a way of creating a new message rather than only being able to reply to messages.

Google services updates despite disabling auto update. Is there an adb method to turn off auto updates for good?

The "newer" version of the Google app (this update came out well over a year ago) has a definitively degraded speech recognition engine. I use the voice typing on my pixel very often, especially while driving, and the newer version quite literally makes this feature defunct.
For a very long time, I have only had to uninstall the update when my system updates, but since the most recent one a few days ago, I have uninstalled it probably over 15 times. And each time I do this, it updates on its own at most a few hours later, despite the fact that auto updating is disabled.
It is very annoying, and I want to know if there is a setting I can change within the app or elsewhere using adb.
I would greatly appreciate the help.
Google Services - as mentioned in thread's title - per se doesn't exist: it exist Google Play Service & Google Services Framework what are 2 completely different softwares.
You can force Google Play Service to stop auto-upadating of Google applications like Google App.
To turn updates on or off, follow these steps:
Open Google Play.
Tap the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) on the top-left.
Tap Settings.
Tap Auto-update apps.
To disable automatic app updates, select Do not auto-update apps.

As I made pretty clear in the original post, I've done this. For the Google app and the play store in general. Come back with something that didn't come from an faq page.

Question How to enable Google Assistant?

I used to be able to swipe up from the bottom-left and bottom-right corners of the screen to launch Assistant, but that no longer works and I cannot find anything in settings to help...
Any ideas?

Hi, not sure if it helps but it's still working for me. I have the assistant and google app installed with all permissions granted, notifications active and set the default assistant app to google.

It took me to the setting when i set up the Google Assistant app, i can't find it as a system setting so it must be hidden. Try reinstalling Assistant and going through the setup again perhaps ?
That worked

I have set the default digital assistant to google in Assistant app but after a while it just default to none. I have given access to Assistant app as well as disable auto-optimize option under battery. Any one have the same issue?
I have the same issue. I added Google Assistant to Home screen & Lock screen->Recent tasks manager->Locked, but that doesn't help....
I have problems with "ok google" it doesn't work. I have also pixel buds but i cannot activate with the voice.
in settings under Google assistant /hey Google & voice match i see this
ok google this feature is currently unavailable on this device
And i change language in phone and inside assistant, also set as default program but nothing.... Any idea? Thanks
I'll buy chocolate for anyone that figures this out. Assistant was working fine although no OK GOOGLE to wake. Now the default assistant app switches to none after a short while. No idea how to fix.
Agreed, used to work the same for me, but recently it keeps resetting to none... maybe the result of an OS update?
I don't think it will work on this phone as it has CN COLOR OS which automatically sets changes back for assistant part.
I've found no way for Ok Google, however I have managed to keep Google Assistant as the default.
Setting the following in the Google battery settings:
Allow Background Activity, Allow auto Launch and Allow this app to lunch other apps or services, in permissions pretty much allow everything and also allow notifications. Then in Google Assistant set it to default - with all the above settings mine has not changed the default in 2 weeks so far.
I also downloaded button mapper and set the Google Assistant to launch when I press the volume button twice which made it easier to launch when I need it - button mapper needs the same settings as above otherwise the phone will kill it.
I'm wondering if there is any app where you can set custom voice commands - as if so you could set 'Ok Google' to launch assistant. Ive not really looked into it as I usually activate my assistant from a hardware button.
