Did you read the OP completely?
If so, my apologies. Sometimes devhost goes down for inexplicable reasons.
Try again later.
m

UPDATE; see OP
SM-T330NU Philz/ADV CWM recovery
corrected storages, sdcard1 , usb-otg
TODO - orient to landscape, adjust/optimize read/write speeds
I now have the sm-t330nu so, hopefully, things will pick up.
m
EDIT- Okay, new version, storages corrected, no landscape orientation yet.
YOU MUST MAKE A NEW BACKUP AFTER INSTALL !
Backups made with previous version encounter selinux context/permission problem
and result in bootloop.

Double-checking file info for Odin
Does the sm-t330nu-philz-recovery-D-3.tar file for Odin contain the same update as the zip? I'm still new to Odin, but I've gleaned from searching that it can't use flashable zip files, they must be tar or tar.md5. Want to make sure I get the correct file before giving this a go. Thanks for a small bit of hand-holding.

K,
hi, no, odin flash d-3 first then flash the update in recovery.
i'm working on final build, so once that's done the current odin flashable file and the update zip
will be replaced, read the update post as well as the OP and be aware of the selinux issue ,
i believe i've corrected that issue in the current/final build i'm working on and should hopefully
have it up soon
thanks.
m.

Final Build Uploaded
Okay,
see OP for link, will be moving things over to android file host soon [mirror], will add link to OP
Final Build, orientation will remain in portrait, from what i've been reading, i would need to modify
kernel source to achieve landscape, which i won't be doing until after i get a rom [successful] to build through, sorry.
I tried increasing font size but, in portrait the text becomes jumbled and looks sloppy, [ yuck ! ]
The virtual keys will come in handy
Storages and selinux issue corrected, sdcard1 :good: usb-otg :good:
As a precaution, make a brand new backup, especially to preserve your full stock rom !
When/if i get landscape orientation and font sizes done i will release a really final version,
provided someone else doesn't do it first.
Sorry for the goofs and delays.
m

Thank you all!!!!

I'm getting a MD5 error when attempting to flash this Recovery to my T330NU Galaxy tab 4 8.0 Via ODIN
I tried redownloading it several times and got the same results.. I tried to flash this over the TWRP recovery port, its not mounting Cache so I can't flash the Zip..

Z,
hi,
the .md5 extension can be removed, meaning, rename blah.recovery.tar.md5 to blah.recovery.tar
i scripted the odin packing process for my recovery builds a while back so, the md5 gets added as a matter of course.
the recovery will flash, as a step to defeat the automatic restoration of the stock recovery by the rom,
uncheck auto restart/reboot in odin and perform your flash, wait for the RES OK message, give it a second or two longer,
then disconnect your tab and use the three button combo to force boot to recovery, home,volume-up,power
from recovery reboot as normal.

Pulling this conversation into the right thread.
I have the milletwifiUE SM-T330NU. This recovery wouldn't flash on it. The title is misleading b/c this recovery isn't for all of the SM-T330NU devices. Since it wouldn't flash, there isn't any harm done, but having read almost every other thread in the Tab 4 forum, I'd suggest pointing out the code name of each device is important in the OP. There are differences between the SM-T330NUs apparently.
Still, M, thank you for your work on the device. If you can link me to directions on how to pull a recovery.log or boot.img or whatever you may need to include the milletwifiue, I'd be glad to. If you've already posted those directions and I missed them, point me to the post.

The recovery is for the milletwifi sm-t330nu, again if you read the op you will see the codename clearly stated in the posted default.prop.
If i understand your issue, you either attempted to flash this recovery's .zip installation from another recovery, or you attempted to flash
a modified repackaged "stock" rom in which, during the process, the assert in the updater-script determined your device to be incorrect.
In which case your custom rom and/or previous custom recovery are in error.
I say this bluntly yet, without malice, I have done this before and have a fairly good handle on it. I would certainly modify a version for you
if you provide me with the actual original stock boot or recovery image for your device. Images from custom/modded roms will not do.

If I'm one of the only people that would benefit from it, lets not worry about it. At this point I don't have the stock recovery b/c I flashed twrp first and then tried to flash this.
I see you did post the code name in the OP but I think it would help to point out that there are sm-t330nu variants, like mine. Coming from years of flashing, I know most people here are used to checking model #s that are posted in the title. Its very unusual to get a model with different code names and not a different carrier, in this case wifi (as opposed to Verizon ot Sprint etc).
Edit: typos

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Mega & Cyanogenmod Installation

To start off with, I'm just wondering, do you ALWAYS have to enter a CAPTCHA when posting to this forum. That will drive me nuts!
Anyhow, I am looking to install Cyanogenmod on my Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 (GT-I9205) and I haven't been in the business of modding an Android phone in a LONG long while. The videos on YouTube are extremely lackluster in walking you step-by-step if you haven't been in it for a while. I don't just want to install the ROM and call it a day, I want to understand what the process is first, create a full image of my phone first in case anything goes wrong and AFTER that point I want to install a Cyanogenmod.
So, from what little bits and pieces I have gleaned from the Internets, I have come across three main themes when modding.
1. Root
2. ClockworkMod
3. Cyanogenmod
I don't want to brick my phone so I'd like some help in getting started with this.
Please move this thread if it's not in the right spot.
Question 1: As far as rooting your phone, is the process similar on the Android platform as a whole or is there specific steps for each "line" of phones. It feels like rooting is pretty cut-and-dry. I have rooted before, I just don't remember exactly what the most efficient way of doing it was.
Question 2: It seems like installing ClockworkMod requires that you select an option that's specifically for your phone (i.e. picking an option that applies to a differing phone will brick your phone). Am I correct in this assumption.
Question 3: To my understanding from what I've seen, it is recommended that you white your phone and clear the cache (a very good suggestion) when installing a new ROM. Should this be done after you install ClockworkMod? At what point should this be done and what is the correct steps to do this?
I'm a developer & programmer by nature, but this Android stuff really has me feeling unfamiliar so I need everyones help to understand how this beast ticks.

Hi..check this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2566642 as it has all you need to get the CM11 rom on your device which works on your version..all what you need is in Silesh.Nair signature (links) at the bottom of his posts, and just download odin 3.07 as you will need one of the recoveries CWM or TWRP with kitkat support to install the CM11 rom, but they are available in Silesh.Nair signature in his posts.

Did you install the latest recovery ( twrp/cwm )? It will only work with the recoveries available in my signature. First flash the recovery using Odin, then flash the ROM zip using recovery.

Yes I used the files in your signature and installed TWRP as follows
- Opened ODIN
- Put Phone into Stock Recovery
- Plugged into comptuer
- Loaded TWRP tar file under PDA in ODIN
- Clicked Start
No errors popped up
To Flash Rom
- Restarted phone and held Volume Up button to load TWRP
- Full Backup before Flashing
- Touched Install
- Selected zip file downloaded from your status
It starts updating and has the following on the screen
"Updating partition details...
Running boot script...
Finished running boot scrip.
Installing '/external_sd/cm-11-20131216-UNOFFICI (text goes off screen at this point)
Checking for MD5 file
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found
Verifying zip signature...
E:Zip signature verification failed: 1
Error flashing zip '/external_sd/cm-11-20131216- (Text goes off screen again)
Updating partition details...
Failed (in red letters)"
Then gives me option of Home, Wipe cache/dalvik(which I also tried) or reboot system
Do you have the rom file on your external sd card..if so I would put the rom zip file on the internal sd and see if it works then..unless you have the rom file on your internal sd already..then disregard this..but it should work.

So I have finally managed to get this installed by basically going back to square one, fresh downloads and fresh factory restore for the 5th time lol and it finally worked. Got a couple questions tho. Is there a way to have the notification LED pulse rotate if theres more than one? like say i get a text and a email waiting for me at same time is there a way to have it switch colours between text and email every 5 seconds or whatever? Also is there a way to make the icons in app drawer smaller?
Not trying to be pushy about getting these added just wanna make sure that its not just a case of ia am missing something
Thanks

[ROM][E970/E971/E973]LG Official Kitkat 4.4.2[stock]

First things first, I hold no responsibility for bricked phones, you flash, you break, you fix.
This is the korean kk release just slightly modified by me to install without the need to freegee after installation so you should maintain your current recovery.
To get camera working I compiled the lg source release which was a pain in the ass because someone at LG doesn't know how to zip a file properly.
I trimmed it down by removing the Korean Olleh branding apps and boot/shutdown animations. Forgot, I deleted the LG Music app because it stinks. Doesn't do gapless mp3's which I have a lot of.
I replaced it with AOSP music app with gpu acceleration enabled so it scrolls smoothly and plays gapless mp3's.
No modem is flashed either, just make sure you are running the jb modem.
Only other thing I removed was the root checker daemon because it was spamming logcat (rctd: similar to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2267909)
Don't expect a lot of support for this, its not my work, I'm just sharing it because I feel that all our north american providers are going to screw us OG owners out of kitkat.
New rom is pre-rooted, flash super su if you want, but its not required.
Furthermore, new (June 4th) rom does not include busybox, just install from play store.
For all variants flash the main rom zip, boot it up, set up the phone:
Full Canadian E971/E973 Rom
You're done.
After some work from gourab4u, myself and Level99 testing we have sdcard support for you E970 folks.
Level99 built these flashable zip files for E970 AT&T people, credit to him for these zips.
This zip has all E970 patches from below applied, no need to flash any fixes:
Full E970 Rom
If you flashed the Canadian zip and want E970 specific fixes use these:
E970 External SD Fix: This flashes boot.img, framework-res.apk, and platform.xml to allow external sd to be seen on the E970.
AT&T Build.prop mod: This flashes modified build.prop to change phone to identify as US AT&T.
Both zips above combined into 1: This flashes the above two fixes and incorporates NFC fix if NFC is not working for you. Seems most people are saying NFC works as is from the main rom zip.
Install this to get the Accuweather widget to work:
Weather Theme
Enjoy.
Just a couple screenshots from On Screen Phone to show you guys whats coming...oh ya, I LOVE QSLIDE!

For E970 owners, I have no idea how your phones will react to the sdcard and red only led as this is the Korean rom...if someone who has an E970 can test/fix great but I can't help much in that regard.
There's a couple different ways to accomplish this so here goes easy way first:
2 Steps to follow:
flash this large rom zip, flash supersu.zip, boot it up, set up the phone:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23487008491966757
Grab boot img from here (my kernel build for our cameras): http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358541637
Then reboot to bootloader and "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
You're done.
Alternative is to download the large rom, download the boot.img and replace the boot.img in the large rom with my boot.img from link above.
I have no computer at home so I can't do the boot.img swap and re-upload for the time being.
Large rom zip mirror provided by Liindberg in the international forum:
http://goo.gl/iRuRAI
Enjoy.

I have E970 AT&T I let you know. Downloading.
There will be a new boot.img soon, our north american kernel defconfigs have not been updated fully for kitkat changes.
Currently there is some logcat spam that will be gone soon.
Will also try doing a E970 specific kernel build, if someone can edit the storage_list.xml for you E970 peeps would help, I don't know anything about that part...
Thanks Pauli for the rom and kernel. I will be flashing your boot.img and see. While I was trying to port the kernel from Korean release, I have edited the storage_list.xml. I can help in editing the storage_list.xml for e970 for your rom, if you/someone can upload the framework-res.apk from your rom, as I do not have the connection to download GBs.Will report after flashing your compiled boot image.
Stuck at LG boot logo after reboot from bootloader.

external SD not working. camera working perfectly.
I have checked the ramdisk and saw many lines needs to be modified for external SD(probably) the fstab ones do have a "#" to comment out the sdcard1 mount code. after some changes in init.device.rc, I got a directory called sdcard1 created in media_rw how ever sdcard is not mounting. In settings, in the sd card section, there is an option called "mount sd card", however it is functionless. Can anyone of you please indicate what am I missing?

The reason you guys are stuck on the lg logo is probably the same reason the people on e975 forums were. Your system partion is 1.5 gb and the Rom needs 2 gb to flash so it isn't flashing the entire thing . There is no easy fix yet. We'll have to wait

Attempting to build a regular flashable zip from philz recovery instead of the img files. This should get around the img file being 2gb.
Will upload later tonight.

Just the fact that this was even brought over to our devices from the Korean source is enough. I thought the geeb was on its last legs, this is a fantastic shot in the arm! Flashing shortly.

You could try my meta-inf folder here below which i use to got the Optimus g rom extracting.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1u3mnq0nstfcVRDN3V3XzJBblE/
Also flashable boot.img without the need of fastboot.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1u3mnq0nstfUU9RSDBpVzBKdVU/
I dont know or all the symlinks are really good correct but i think so cause i could flash my optimus g port build without any symlink error. i based my optimusgrom port on yours paulicat so it shouldnt be a problem at all lol goodluck further i hope that these files could help you guys further here also. I extracted the img file using ext2explore on windows.
I also got the boothang on the LG icon, system shows 1.5gb in CWM.
I have a working zip (regular zip not img based) now. I am taking an extra day to tweak it a bit more.
I'll also compile e970 specific kernel and release that as a separate boot.img.
LG still uses the nfc firmware file which is OK for Canadian phones but I don't know yet for e970.
Default kernel in the rom will be the Canadian kernel.
I'll upload it tomorrow night.
Bare with me as I don't have a working computer at home, bad luck killed my imac.

[ROM] [Base] [LP] [Stock] ROM Base for LP Upgrade + Working Bump!

This is a ROM Base of the latest LP VS985 23C & 23B for all devs who work on Stock LG system. It was a part of JasmineROM, but since it's Unmodified Stock/Rooted ROM, it should be just a ROM base. It makes it easy to upgrade to LP without the OTA hassle & to prepare partitions for future updates. It also keeps Bump-signed images (TWRP recovery & custom kernels) working without affecting any of the current ROMs/Kernels. You might need to just flash modem & kernel (check this post for official firmware) if you'd like to downgrade or switch ROMs (only if they're not already included in that ROM).
I went the image route (the new method) because I had some issues with some firmware. It run perfectly on my device, but failed to boot (or stuck in a bootloop) for some testers. The reason for Data/WiFi & other issues I've experienced during testing was due Symlinks, Permissions, & SELinux context. They should be identical to stock system. So, to avoid any other unforeseen issues, I decided to write stock images (so it works as expected) & updates will automatically follow the correct symlinks/permissions/context. I can make a working updater-script, but this way is much easier & straightforward.
23C Installation Instructions: - Official
BACKUP your apps via TitaniumBackup
REBOOT to TWRP recovery (the latest TWRP v2.8.6.0 can be found here)
WIPE everything (system/data/cache/dalvic)
FLASH JasmineROM_v7.0.zip - BE PATIENT !
FLASH SuperSU for ROOT access
RESET factory from within ROM (in Settings) is required.
If you run into WiFi/Sync issues, flash CRONTAB_DisableIPv6.zip

23B Installation Instructions: - Leak
The installation of 23B is quite simple (much less complicated than it sounds): you just need to run installROM.sh script; the other steps are just for preparation/clarification. This method just works in all situations (coming from Stock KK 10B/11C/12B or AOSP LP) we tested to update all relevant partitions. The future updates will be in the form of a regular flashable .ZIP file.
1. Make Nandroid backup of your ROM via TWRP recovery
2. Download & extract JasmineROM_v5.0.zip (use Zarchiver)
3. Make sure you don't have any partition images in internal storage (/sdcard)
4. Copy all files in JasmineROM_v5.0 directory to internal storage (/sdcard)
5. (Re)boot into TWRP recovery
6. Use Terminal Command (in TWRP) OR ADB (from PC/Mac/Linux via adb shell) to run the following 3 commands:
Code:
cp /sdcard/installROM.sh /sbin/
chmod 0755 /sbin/installROM.sh
sh /sbin/installROM.sh
The first two commands shouldn't print anything.
The 1st command copies the script to /sbin & the 2nd sets its permissions.
The 3rd command runs the script only if it's in /sbin (1st command) & has executable permissions (2nd command).
If you've messed up with your partitions layout or filesystem (e.g., formatting f2fs), revert to factory setup (e.g., ext4 filesystem - since stock kernel doesn't support f2fs).
The last command will take some time (~10 minutes). BE PATIENT !.
Some entries will appear to hang, do not interrupt or disconnect cable!
The "No space left on device" warning is NORMAL
You should see command prompt & ROM info/release date at the end !

7. Flash Download Mode Fix + Debuggable Kernel & Reboot
If you run into issues, it's because you've conflicting data from KK.
Do a factory reset in Settings to restore default LP databases!
You may use TitaniumBackup instead of factory reset > Tap batch actions on the top right > Scroll down to "Manipulate data" > Run "Wipe data for user & system apps"

Thanks a lot. Worked great. Is anyone having trouble with ADB after updating? My ADB worked fine before. I'm trying to find new drivers to install but can't seem to get it.
Coming from the stock KK running AOSP based LP ROMs right now should I install this to get my modem updated to the LP one? Or can I just flash the LP modem to get that updated?

I'm having trouble installing the original jasmine from page 200. I go through all the steps to run the install script, and everything goes fine and it installs correctly. When I boot it up, however, it won't load and it gives me the stock verizon boot animation and it hangs there. I didn't flash the download mode fix, was going to do that after I booted up for the first time
EDIT: I reinstalled the script, again, everything goes fine and it shows the release data at the end. Then, I flash the last zip, goes fine, and I reboot just like in the instructions and it gives me a blue and green light from the notification light and it's hanging at the stock verizon boot animation and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere. Anyone can help??

True that, and let me give you a counter point: How does one extra marginal post in a different forum deteriorate your life in any way possible or imaginable? What is the cost of one more forum post, which by mathematical truth can only lead to one extra page at most?
Is it the opportunity cost of reading my post, and realizing you read the same text somewhere else? Is my ire at my cross post really just anger at re-posts in general? The concept of copying content and under valuing originality? If this is the case, I concede you have a point. I too am an effervescent searcher for good, funny, original and insightful content. My jimmies become quite rustled when I see something I've already seen before.
But here's the irony: just now, you've taken more time to read this post, than the last one!!! Isn't that funny? And it's interesting to think about, for the following reason: What is a post's ultimate value? It's a + b , where a is the value I gain from my post being answered, and b is the value you gain from reading it. Let's think about this post again; this post is literal poop. It is worthless, it's a waste of my time and yours. So really, this post is valueless for everyone involved. Yet, according to the logic of this website's forum, this post is completely fine since it's an original, non-cross post.
Yet my cross posts, which are bad as you suggest, give me immense value! Because my question is answered nearly (but not perfectly) twice as fast, so I get 2a + b return on the post. Do you see how illogical your conception of what is good posts/content, and what is bad?
Eh, but what do I know: I just go to the number 1 school in the US.

I never bothered doing Bump to get a custom recovery installed. I simply got root on 10B and then disabled automatic updates. As such, I figure this method won't work for me as it involves steps within TWRP. Would my best bet for getting stock rooted Lollipop be to enact Bump to get a custom recovery, and then follow these steps? The Bump stuff didn't make sense to me so I didn't dare venture down that road, and am hoping I can still avoid it...

It's called trolling son. Back in my day, it was an art. Now I just do it for the thrill.
I have no idea how to change file systems. The whole boot partition thing is what weirded me out, I have no idea about that stuff. I ended up flashing back to my kit kat recovery (which had a date of like january 5, lol. So I had been off stock rooted xposed for almost 4 months) and running the commands. Then instead of hanging at the verizon screen at boot, it went into the android is upgrading thing fine.
So I guess it's a directional thing, where you can go forwards in time but not backwards. Which was where I was coming from on Illusion 6.0.

what are the boardconfig.mk file contents that you used to compile this recovery?
the fact youre using a ghetto hacked twrp that works is fine, but id prefer an actual device specific twrp version that will reliably work - theres no telling what this twrp can do to your device, and the fact youre using another devices ramdisk scares the hell out of me.
ramdisks arent something you play around with - you can seriously ruin someones device like that.
also requesting the twrp fstab file youve used.
youre literally just throwing files at users that have perviously bricked their devices and not explaining in detail what they consist of.
if you seriously damage any of these user's device partitions by overwriting the wrong partition, are you going to pay for the devices when theyre hardbricked and no longer responsive to the oem flashing?
not once have a even seen a warning on these files yet youre just posting forum to forum; not to mention youre inexperienced at rom/kernel/recovery compiling for the fact you think its okay to just throw a different devices ramdisk in there " because it just works." when we have readily available source for our device.
legally- youre held responsible for these files youre distributing.
and to those just flashing this twrp file to their device, yes its reversible - but would you want to find out it doesnt work when its too late? IE backing up partitions in the wrong order, and restoring them into the wrong partitions? the video shows it backs up and restores, but is it doing so in the right order? in the right places. i may be ranting but id rather be careful/safe then sorry.
not one detail of this compile/build has been released, just a link that is claimed to work.
"left sock fits on right, doesnt feel right - but my feet aren't cold!" is how this feels to me.
i was sketched to even test this twrp version considering you need to tell the factory reset "yes, i want to wipe" twice, in order to boot to twrp.
idk about you but ive never seen any recovery warrant those options. normally twrp would just boot upon button combo - which is why im sharing this post. recoveries arent supposed to be functioning that way.

The first twrp was from a htc phone. This is from lg leon lte. Same manufacturer. I used my boot.img dumped on my sdcard and used the ramdisk from Twrp Leon aka c50 the leon twrp is missing the options seen on this one. Don't use it. But I'm working on cm_m1 so continue to use the old one and when your phone can't come on have fun getting in recovery. Make it better.

Check out the LG L70 it's the same way to get in recovery. This must be your first LG phone.
i dont care whether its the same way to enter recovery, my care is youre using another phone's ramdisk in this device.
"I used my boot.img dumped on my sdcard and used the ramdisk from Twrp Leon aka c50 the leon"
post twrp.fstab and boardconfig.mk youve used for this "twrp" build.
this must be your first posting for development on an unsupported device.
as for anyone using another device's files when we have access to source of our own device - i wouldnt trust them to build anything, let alone CM. thats just pure shortcutting and laziness .. and at what expense?
as for twrp making this official, they wont - as you cannot provide SOURCE.
So, now, hopefully you've compiled TWRP for your device and gotten it working. Now, you'd like to know how to get TWRP officially supported for your device so that it can be installed automatically with GooManager. In order for us to add "official support" for your device we'll need the following:
1) Device configuration files to compile TWRP from source for your device. This means that you cannot have repacked a recovery.img by hand to get it working. We need to be able to compile it from source so that we can easily release future updates.
2) A copy of a build prop for your device (it's in /system/build.prop) so that we can add the correct device information to GooManager
3) We'll build a copy of TWRP and send it to you for validation. Once you've validated that we can build a working image for your device, we'll add it to GooManager.
Go spam the other thread. Over 200 downloads and no problems but there was problems right away with the first version. For your info download Twrp c50 from the Twrp site examine it and ask why it's incomplete. That's why I linked the video of the Twrp from the site and same problems. Bye and leave me be. Hd2 check it out. Czarsuperstar's HTC HD2 android custom roms. Check it out and leave me alone. Thanks for your concern. Oh and for your info we have the same keyboard configuration as the LG Leon. There's a device tree. Google it. Google is your friend bro.

post twrp.fstab and boardconfig.mk youve used for this "twrp" build.
this must be your first posting for development on an unsupported device.
as for anyone using another device's files when we have access to source of our own device - i wouldnt trust them to build anything, let alone CM. thats just pure shortcutting and laziness .. and at what expense?
as for twrp making this official, they wont - as you cannot provide SOURCE.
2) A copy of a build prop for your device (it's in /system/build.prop) so that we can add the correct device information to GooManager

not saying a official twrp isn't preferable, but man you got to learn how to talk to people, you were just short of cursing the dude out, and as far as the recovery the thing is solid(tested backup, flash and restore/ anyhow we got LGUP if you **** up so its not a huge deal), but anyone on this site shouldn't take someones word for things like recovery's and you should always test boot before you flash, also you don't seem to understand the first rule of xda-whatever happens to your device is on you, been that way since the og day's- talking politely to others is the way to go about things, people wont listen if you combative.
Kernel
Im building the kernel from source right now check out the video on Twitter. Anyone that wants to join the development I am down with it.
Didn't work, after selecting yes twice, my phone just starts like normal, doesn't go to TWRP or factory restore, it is there though because I can boot to it from the flashify app, ah well.
wait...my bad, I was highlighting the wrong one, lol, works great, thanks
Assuming it ever worked right it should work better now because you can always get to it.
As for concerns about the ramdisk I don't see any issues with that, it's just being used to boot and run recovery on if I'm not mistaken and apparently where the buttons get enabled so a necessity.
Considering many phones have such hacked together recoverys and many more have no custom recovery I'm thankful to have it particularly since most of my work is done away from my pc.

Right and that's why the buttons didn't work. Great job! Best discovery yet for this phone, so happy that we can restore now withoit adb and withoit having to worry about debugging getting turn off, very essential find. Don't let those that don't understand get you down.

[GUIDE] (OB6/OF1) Root, Bootloader Unlock, and Custom Recovery!

Disclaimer:
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device after following this guide. Also, I'm not entirely sure if this works 100% for OF1, although I can guarantee that this guide works for OB6 because I just successfully rooted, unlocked the bootloader, and flashed a custom recovery onto my Galaxy Note 3 running the OB6 update.
This guide was compiled for the sole purpose of convenience for other users here on XDA Forums. My reason for making this guide was to make it as easy as possible for Verizon Galaxy Note 3 owners to root, unlock the bootloader, and flash a custom recovery without jumping from thread to thread, searching for answers.
ONLY FOLLOW THIS GUIDE IF YOU KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO BE ROOTED, HAVE AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER, AND WHAT A CUSTOM RECOVERY IS USED FOR
If you are the proud owner of a Verizon Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900V) and would like to root, unlock the bootloader, and/or flash a custom recovery onto it, you've come to the right place. Included in this guide are methods of doing these exact things, which also happen to be generally easy to perform.
Before you begin, you'll need a few things:
a Verizon Galaxy Note 3 (running OB6 or OF1, obviously)
a computer of some sort (running Windows)
a micro SD card (make sure there isn't anything on it, because it WILL be erased)
Odin 3.09 *
TWRP 3.02-1 *
ArabicTool *
eMMC Brick Bug Checker app
unlock_n3 (for unlocking the bootloader, attached) *
* place these files in a location that you know the path of. e.x. C:\ or C:\Users\...\Desktop
Once you are 100% sure that you have all of these things, continue to the rest of the guide.
Root
Open ArabicTool
Make sure your phone is connected to your computer
In ArabicTool, click on the "Version" field and select your firmware version (OB6/OF1)
Click on "Read phone info" and wait for the information above to show your phone's status
Check the logs on the bottom right to make sure that everything is correct, then click on "Root" below the "Phone info" box (if there is an error about not being on 5.0, close the app, set the compatibility mode to W7, and run as admin)
Once your phone restarts, continue to the next part of the guide
Unlocking the Bootloader
Just follow this tutorial. The consequences of messing this part up can lead to bricking your phone, although the process itself is fairly simple. Just remember that you need to unzip samsung_unlock_n3.zip and rename the file in there to unlock_n3. Follow the instructions from there.
Flashing TWRP
Honestly, this part was the easiest for me.
Unzip and open Odin 3.09
Reboot your phone into download mode (with it plugged into the computer, obviously)
In Odin, click "AP" and find the flashable TWRP tar that you downloaded earlier
Start the flashing process by clicking "Start" in the bottom right hand corner
If, after this process, your phone reboots and shows an error about the recovery partition in the top left hand corner (in blue), then goes into a bootloop:
Download the stock recovery.tar from the attached files at the bottom of this post
Open Odin again
Click "AP", find the file you just downloaded, and start the flashing again
Follow the instructions to unlock your bootloader again, but only do the second set of code. The first set is irrelevant to us at this point.
Flash TWRP onto your phone again. This time, it should work if it didn't already.
To make sure, boot your phone into recovery mode. If TWRP boots up, success (obviously )!
If you have any issues whatsoever that I haven't covered in this guide, please either PM me or reply to this thread. Also, if I have made any mistakes in outlining the instructions in this guide, do the same.

Any thoughts on if this will work on OF1 partial firmwares such as the one included for jasminerom 6.1 retail edition?
Since I'm rooted already, I would be picking up from after the rooting steps.
Also, can you provide the steps for bootloader unlock. The link provides is coming up as invalid link in xda mobile app.

I'm not entirely sure if it will work on JasmineROM 6.1 specifically, but it won't hurt your device to try. Unless your CID doesn't start with 15 for some reason. If it does, the worst that can happen is the unlock file won't work.
I'll have to edit that part when I get home. I'm only going to be gone for about 20 minutes or so.

It really only needs root, although the spot it looks for the eMMC CID value changed from kernel release to kernel release, so there were some minor release dependencies.
[Edit 8/25/2016] Based on feedback from member shallmann, it appears that specific binary versions released within the Unlock Thread should be used depending on the firmware revision of your phone. See this post in that thread.
The version which seems to be most compatible with M*, N*, and O* kernels is the build posted (along with source code) in post #218 of the bootloader unlock thread.
( The newly-rebuilt version in the OP of that thread is still incompatible with 4.3 and 4.4 (M*, N*) releases. )
Man up and use your browser if the XDA app is broken.

@jamesalynch
I know you are trying to help and everything, but you've kind of screwed the pooch in a couple of different ways. First, the binary that you attached doesn't work on any 4.3.x (M*) or 4.4.x (N*) series ROMs, and I'm not sure it ever worked even on OB1 and OF1.
Second, you should not be re-attaching files that are available in other people's posts. Just provide a link to the original post; if there is an ambiguity as to what download is desired, then describe it in your post.
Third, you should not be taking other people's downloads, unpacking them, and then renaming the included files to match filenames used elsewhere - that is only going to increase people's confusion.
Fourth, in that OP (@ryanbg 's post) he mentions re-building the code and NOT USING the version that you provided as an attachment. Unfortunately, he was in a hurry when he rebuilt the code, and even the new version he built still does not work on 4.3.x and 4.4.x ROMs.
[Edit 8/25/2016] Based on feedback from member shallmann, it appears that specific binary versions released within the Unlock Thread should be used depending on the firmware revision of your phone. See this post in that thread.
The version that will work for everyone is in @donc113's post #218 in that thread.
Code:
$ find . -type f \( \! -name '*.zip' -a \! -name '*.c' \) -exec md5sum {} \;

Thanks to everyone who posted. I will be going back to the post mentioned in the comments.

This is kinda confusing, to be honest.
Once bootloader is unlocked you could just download FlashFire and download and flash TWRP from there rather than using Odin.
The root tool you linked didn't work for me, even on Windows 7, granted others said it worked for them. If they are on Windows 10, there is a different tool to use.
stock recovery?
I need the stock recovery file, that you said would be attached. My phone is not booting with the Recovery warning..

Firstly, if you have an unlocked bootloader, you never have to flash STOCK again.
So - after you have gotten this problem fixed - learn how to avoid using Odin with STOCK firmware bundles.
Odin can flash a custom recovery when the bootloader is unlocked. That will save you trouble in the future. You need to learn how to build Odin ".tar.md5" files. In a nutshell, for doing what I just mentioned, you take a TWRP .img file, rename it to "recovery.img", put it in a "ustar" format tar file, and then compute the md5 signature of that and append it to the end of the file. Search for "Odin md5 ustar" in these forums.
For your current problem, I can't tell exactly what you are saying. If you are saying "I am stuck in a vicious cycle of nothing but recovery reboots (the stock recovery)", then
- pull the battery and wait ten seconds
- put the battery back in
- start in download mode with Vol_Down+Home+Power. When you get the pop-up screen, select cancel.
- if it still boots into the stock recovery, the do a full wipe (yes the whole phone, data+cache) and try booting. If the same trouble persists, go back and do the Odin STOCK flash again. (You can't flash a custom recovery with a locked bootloader).
If it still doesn't work, make sure your next problem report includes far more details than the one above, for instance:
- what version of firmware was on your phone before this mess started
- what version of firmware you were trying to flash with Odin
- what version of Odin you were using
- the name of the Odin file and it's MD5 signature.
that's a start.

It produces error messages when it encounters a problem and exits without completing it's job.
Is there some reason why you believe we should be able to intuit what those countless error messages were? (It would be simpler if you just cut-n-paste that output into your post.)
You might also want to state which version of the tool you used - there are at least 3 in the original thread.
im thinking about getting a verizon note 3.. does this work for all variants to get root, twrp and custom roms?
thanks

No
You can root all variants but can not unlock all variants, thus can't use TWRP or use custom ROMS or kernel.
Must be model SM-N900V, must have a specific Samsung eMMC (cid must start with 15) and the external SD card slot must work along with the USB port.
