how to unzoom 16:9 video - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to figure out why trading recording video in 16:9 is always zoomed in?
Literally zoned zoomed. For example if I toggle between the highest res option at 16:9 vs whatever is lower at 4:3 it's obvious that it is zoomed in. If I try to pinch zoom out it says I can't.

I'm talking about a problem when recording video, not playback issues.

[Q] Pictures taken with Camera are not the same size

Hi, the size of picture taken does not match what I see in the camera app, and by size I don't mean image size on disk or resolution.
Basically, what I see "through the lens", as in, what I see on screen when I open the camera app, is slightly smaller than what I get when I take a picture and view it in Gallery. It seems the camera is capturing a little more than what's shown to me on the phone screen. It's pretty annoying when you line up a nice shot only to have the picture taken framed slightly larger than what you saw on screen.
Anyone else have this problem?
I'm using CM10.2.0 stable for i9300, clean install (wipe system, data, cache, preload), with stock CM10.2 camera and gallery.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

What you see on screen in AOSP camera is 16:9 and camera sensor is 4:3, so you have an answer
You can shoot in 6MP 16:9 if you want exactly the same.

Thank you so much.
Do you mean that the camera only shoots 4:3 in 8MP? Is this because 8MP is its native resolution so it matches the camera as 4:3?
Is there any way I could take advantage of the 8MP camera but have it shoot in 16:9?

Exactly. Camera is able to shoot in 4:3 in 8MP mode. Basically it's an industry standard. Almost all cameras (from iPhone to even entry level DSLRs) shoot in 4:3. Other popular standards are 3:2 and 5:4. 16:9 is used mostly by cinematography.

No. Either you have to choose 8MP 4:3 or 6MP 16:9.
6MP 16:9 would be nothing more than cropped 8MP picture to maintain 16:9 ratio.

App to play YouTube videos on 4:3 aspect ratio

Our nexus has a very annoying aspect ratio, most of the YouTube videos won't just fit for full screen.
Is there any way we could make these videos fit on full screen!?
Change YouTube app's aspect ratio, or any other app which can play online YouTube videos, where we can make it fit on full screen I.e. with 4:3 aspect ratio???
Sent from my Nexus 9 using Tapatalk
I'm sure there are ways to do this, but it would result in cropping out and stretching parts of the video. It would be very unpleasant to watch.
I just got a Nexus 9 myself, and this has been my primary complaint so far. I also have an Ipad mini, so I am used to the 4:3 form factor. What's nice about Ipad is that in my video apps, there is an option to autocrop to full screen. I wish we had that on the N9 as well. For the majority of videos, it isn't that "unpleasant" at all, actually.
Install SecondScreen

This app let's you adjust your screen resolution so fullscreen videos fill the entire screen. (Requires Root)

You're right. Second Screen only works when you project your screen onto a TV (miracast). I ended up using Dolphin Browser and MXPlayer. When you watch a video in Dolphin and click the Fullscreen box on the video, the fullscreen window has a 3dot menu in the upper right. When you click that, you get the choice to select a different video player. Select MXPlayer (installed separately) and the video will play in MXPlayer, which has controls for scaling the video. Set it to Fit Vertically, and it will fill the screen. Not an ideal solution, but it works.
When widescreen tvs were new (I'm that old) it irritated me to see people, mainly older people, watching 4:3 ratio programmes 'stretched' to fit. Watch stuff as it is intended to be seen!
If you have a nexus 7 it's a perfect size for widescreen. Okay, so older 4:3 ratio stuff will be a bit small. But think of the poor iPad users who paid four times the price for a larger 4:3 ratio screen just so they can watch widescreen material letterboxed at the same size as a nexus 7.
And dont get me started on people who video on their phones vertically...

Just click the 3:4 icon and it will toggle between 3:4, 9:16, full-screen setting.
