[Q] I'm Unable To Receive Update Centre Updates! - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Every one.
Two days ago I Unlocked my boot loader in order to install a Custom Kernel and Root my phone ( D6503 ).
But Everything i had wiped out including updates , Internal storage and files.
I tried to restore my backup and everything went well.
But here is the problem, I can't receive any updates in Update Centre application including Walk-man , Movie Creator , Album and etc. even with Cleaning it's data and Cache in settings> apps.
Is it due to Unlocking boot loader ?

Unlocking the bootloader wipes your TA partition which includes the DRM keys for the phone to get updates and every phone has a unique drm keys so you will never be able to recive updates via OTA you need to install them by using flashtool read the threads to get more info

Thanks. That means I can't restore DRM key too, right?
Isn't there any way to do that?

If you didn't use BackupTA to backup the contents of your TA partition, then you're SOL. If you did then you can restore your DRM keys but you'll need to restore the stock kernel first and this will lock your bootloader... Your choice

Too much questions but is it impossible impossible or there is a spark of lights but hard to see ( I mean its possible but it's very difficult to do )?
Even Sony itself Can't restore it?

You cannot restore it its impossible because every drm key is unique to each device and using other drm keys will brick your device
Sent from my SM-N910H using XDA Free mobile app

Fu** , Why didn't I do that?
Is there any way to bring OTA updates back? With Update Centre application.
And will I be able to Update my phone to latest Firmares with Sony Companion PC application?
Please answer separately.

@maddboss
Have you Unlocked your bootloader? because if you have done so and you haven't backed up your Trim Area (TA Partition) before unlocking it you can't receive any updates due to Losing DRM Keys in TA!
But if you Haven't , perhaps you already have the latest versions. You can Compare your Sony applications version ( Available in Each Settings ) with latest versions posted in This Link ; If they vary and the versions in the link are newer you can try to download them but your phone have a problem and its not with the bootloader. You May want to try Cleaning "Update Centre" application Cache and Data and refresh it once again to see how it goes!
good luck

my bootloader is locked and everything's stock. when my phone had 4.4.2 system, it was able to get updates but now with 4.4.4 it's unable. I checked it by removing updates from movies app and update centre didn't show any updates. I tried to clear cache and data but it didn't work

You can still download Updated versions of the Sony Apps in Xperiablog.net Applications Category (The Link I Gave You! ) As Im doing it because of Unlocking my BL Without Backing up TA!
That was all i Knew!
You May Also Want to try Flashing Latest Available Rom in your region or Getting Support from Sony Mobile official Forum and help center ( You Can google that! )

[Q] Some questions from a new owner.

Got my XZU last Saturday and decided today to keep it. Being long out of the Sony-world (last was an XS, now coming from a Find 5), I've got some questions. I'm also going to search for the infos, but I feel a single thread for "my stuff" makes it easier for me, so please be kind.
So, for the current state, here's the device's information.
- Sony Xperia Z Ultra (C6833), black
- running on Vodafone DE
- Android version 4.2.2
- Baseband version 8974-AAAAANAZQ-10220006-09
- Kernel 3.4.0-perf-gde8296d-02194-ga2561a5
- Build 14.1.B.1.510
- The device shows me an update to 14.2.A.1.136
Questions:
1) Do Sony's official updates only update Android + Sony Apps or are there also firmware updates included?
2) I want to root and install a custom ROM, should I start from the current build or should I upgrade to $something first?
3) I've read that KitKat is restricting SDcard usage for non-system apps. Do custom 4.4 ROMs work around this(,yet) or should I update to 4.3 max?
4) I probably won't use the camera much, if at all, still, most custom ROMs can't get the camera quality on a level the stock ROM has, so how bad is it on this device?
5) is the PowerCover CP12 available somewhere in the EU? It's "out of stock" in all big shops I looked at in .de,.at,.ch and the Twitter-Team wasn't really helpful. Ordering from outside the EU would be possible, but pretty much guaranteed to get stuck at the customs where the next office is ~50km away and doesn't have work-friendly times at all.
6) About screen protectors: a) can I apply them over the shatter shield and if so b) will input by pens or something still work on a decent level?
7) is there a prefered solution of recoveries on this device or does it not matter at all, if I'd choose CWM or TWRP(or is there something else entirely)?
8) are there known problems in general with custom ROMs regarding external hardware? I'd like to use my "SmartWireless Headset Pro", my "SmartWatch (1)" and TV-Out
That's it for now, thanks for any help
1) The 136 update is a firmware update (to Android 4.3), but they also push out updates for their Sony apps.
2) You have to update to at least 290 (Android 4.3) if you don't want to lose your IMEI when you flash a custom ROM. Also note that you'll lose your IMEI if you downgrade from 136/290 to anything older. There are no real reasons to downgrade though, but just keep that in mind. It's easily fixable, so it's not the end of the world if you do it.
3) Yes, there's a workaround to get SD card working on KitKat (you just have to replace one file)
4) The camera is still bad on custom ROMs. It might get better with official Sony KitKat.
5) I have no idea.
6) a) Yes. b) Yes.
7) We've got double recovery, meaning you'll get both CWR and TWRP when you flash recovery, so use the one you prefer. (Vol Up for CWR and Vol Down for TWRP)
8) I think the only known issue on 136 is that Bluetooth might be a little wonky, but i'm not sure, so be sure to read around here since there's a thread about it.
Thank you for that.
In regard to 1), I meant firmware updates of hardware, f.e. the Find5 received some updates regarding the touchscreen.
As for 2), so there's currently no reason not to install the latest official Sony update, meaning it's also rootable without too much hassle? What would be the consequences of a lost IMEI?

Bugfixes are included in firmware updates, so they don't release an update to fix one minor thing. The Find5 receives updates every two weeks, if i'm not mistaken?
There's really no reason to update to 136 (the newest) if you're going to flash a custom ROM. Rooting is fairly easy if your bootloader is unlocked, and it only takes a couple of minutes, but it's a little more complicated if your bootloader is locked. Luckily, you're on 510, meaning it's even easier to root, and once you've rooted 510, make a backup of your TA partition. It holds all of your unique DRM files that makes X-Reality work etc. You'll lose the TA partition when you unlock the bootloader, so that's why you have to make a backup of it before you unlock it. Once you've done that, update to 290, unlock the bootloader, root it and do whatever you'd like to do.
Thanks again.
Now rooting worked(+OTA keeper from the Playstore), so did creating the TA backup.
Having a glance over the custom ROMs available as of now, I think I'd like to stay on rooted stock until Omni (official) comes around.
So what would be the (better) procedure to get latest Sony ROM running? Use Sony's updater and hope OTA keeper works or unlock, install recovery and flash a pre-rooted FTF?

OTA Root Keeper doesn't work on 4.3, so you'll lose root no matter what you do. Are you still on 510, or have you updated to something else?
You have your TA partition backed up now (recommend you to upload it to your Drive or Dropbox), so you can unlock the bootloader without permanently losing the TA partition. It'll delete it when you unlock the bootloader, but you can easily restore it again in case you have to send it in for repairs. Rooting 290 and everything else becomes so much easier and faster the second your BL is unlocked, so head over to the General section and look for Jackie's root guide and see if that's something you might want to do...
...or you can simply stay with the firmware you're on now, granted it's not the most stable firmware version, but it'll save you a lot of time. Official KitKat is also scheduled for release this month, so you can:
A ) Stay on current firmware and wait for official Sony KitKat
B ) Go all out and flash a custom ROM
I'm currently running the GPe ROM, and I can highly recommend it. It's solid as a rock with no bugs.
Any questions?

Yes, did that and mirrored it over a few systems. BTW, if I'd ever go back to stock, would the TA-p get changed so I'd need to back it up again or does it stay the way it is over the phone's lifetime?

No problem, I had my Xperia S unlocked, so I now the procedure. Only question related to that: I read that for the Z1(?) there's a minimal version one should update to before unlocking the BL, if you don't camera stops working or something - so, is this also a problem on the ZU or has this already been fixed?

The TA partition is unique to your device, so you do it only once, so be sure to not lose it.

So to be clear, when you're talking about the GPe ROM, you're meaning this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2608708 ?
So if I'd like to try this, I'd need to:
1. unlock bootloader
2. install recovery
3. take NAND backup
4. Flash .290 fw
5. flash this ROM
Correct?

The bootloader unlocking doesn't need to be the first step since you can flash Recovery on a locked bootloader. You can do everything except the ROM flashing on a locked bootloader. But yeah, that looks fine to me. Be sure to download the tweaked GPe version that includes Recovery and SD fix.
If you can't bother making a NAND:
- Unlock the bootloader
- Update to 290
- Flash boot.img (includes recovery)
- Boot into recovery and flash (VOL UP when LED lights up)
- Done.
Thanks again, could/would you link me to a .290 ftf for germany/europe/generic? The ones I found are either for other regions or the links seem to be down.
Here's 290 EU for the C6833.

Already searched on Google, but couldn't find one, yet, or only for the other models.
Here's the Chilean 290 for C6833. It doesn't matter which one you use, and you're planning to flash the GPe, so just flash this one and get it done

Thank you very much for all your help, GPe is up and running smoothly now.
Apart from anything looking pretty huge, guessing different DPI settings compared to Sony's values, it's fine so far. One question though: under display settings it says X-Reality is on. Is that just cosmetics, since at no point I restored the TA-backup. If it's "fake", is it possible to restore TA and have it working or would that "trash" the system and restore should only be done in case of a stock re-install?

Yeah, the leaked footage from the Z2 KitKat build shows the option to use double tap to wake, so it looks like we'll get it. It's a kernel feature, so it'll work on mostly anything out there.

Stock rom

Hi all,
I bought a retail demo version of the phone for a significant lesser price than the "original" with the downside that it came with a preinstalled software that turned on a demo video when charging and locking the screen.
This was easily fixed with root and a debloat app that i used to remove the software who started the video.
My stock rom is probably not the same as it would have been if I had bought a normal phone. Just for the fun of it i would like to try and make it a stock but i can’t seem to find the stock rom anywhere, i am guessing that it doesn’t exist yet?
If so does anyone have an idea how long it usually takes before a stock rom pops up here at xda after release of a new phone?

You don't use Stock ROM, you flash FTF via flashtool.
Ok, thanks!
So, for example:
I am on romaur 3.1 now and if i want to go back to stock(not from one of my backups) i simply flash "D6503_17.1.1.A.0.402_Euro Lte-unbranded-1281-4640.ftf" via flashtool?
Do you know how OTA-updates work, are they disabled becuse of bootloader unlocked or will they work with stock-ftf?

Xperia Z2 D6502 Rom Questions?

Hello friends
I need to find important information about the Xperia Z2 D6502!
D6502 not support LTE! But other models are support.
1--Does LTE support software or hardware?
2--D6503 ROMS (23.0.1.A.3.9,France - Orange - etc. OR 23.0.1.A.0.167,Canada/USA,France,Germany etc. ) upload to D6502??? Is this happens?
3--And does LTE work?
OR
LTE support is not work. Let's say D6503 is working ROMs on D6502.
4--An advantage or good changes on d6502???If everything would be the same?
LAST
5--When installing this ROM on FlashTool,Is there a possibility of deleting IMEI?
6--And OTA update income ?
7--Can we, when we want to install the original version d6502 (To avoid problems with warranty service)
Very Thanks. English'm less. gtranslate
backup your original rom and after that try to flash d6503 roms to your d6502. I think the rom should work but 4g will not work. and this can't change the imei. I think that the only difference is the 4g. I have a d6503 so I can't try it but good luck

ı dont have root! Can I do any other way? or back up my data and download the d6502 mena ftf.flashing and upload data?
For rooting you need to downgrade to 4.4.2 and than root using toolkit, than you can backup your TA partition just in case you want to unlock your bootloader later and lose your DRM keys. D6503 ROM can be flash in D6502 but the network functions like calling and texting wont work, you need to flash D6502 modem for that, most of the ROMs will already have that as a separate flashable ZIP, search in the respective ROM thread. After flashing the ROM you might get update notification but you wont be able to install them as many of the system files will be modified so for getting official update you will need to flash back stock FTF with flashtool which will remove all your data, and if you had unlocked you bootloader you will have restore you DRM keys also after flashing stock ftf. for backing up data without root try helium app. works for me.

Depends on what ROM you want to flash, there are different ones available in the forum, some AOSP or CM based which will require unlocked BL, or stock bases, like existenz or Moonwalker which are stock based and dont require unlocked BL. but i would suggest you hold on for now as there are some news about Lollipop being release in next few weeks and you will need to flash stock ROM again for updating to Lollipop. or you can later wait for someone to make a lollipop ROM later and get done with the rooting process now itself. also to download ftfs i would suggest use xperifirm and create the ftf using flashtool, you might not find your specific regions ftf through flashtool, but i'm not entirely sure about that, you can try either.
Also please press thanks button if i helped

first backup your data (you know how to do it?) and then backup your rom with this method:
3. how to backup your original firmware customization
a) if you do not want to lose warranty of your phone, first thing you have to do is to backup your original customization
b) download Sony PC Companion and connect your phone
c) select update your phone in Sony PC Companion
d) application will prompt you to disconnect your phone before starting downloading firmware, just make it (remember - dont disconnect your phone when update just start...)
e) after finish downloading firmware cancel the update
F) after that, go to C:\ProgramData\Sony Mobile\Update Engine\db\some number\blob_fs, there you find 3 (maybe 4) files, which names start FILE
g) download and install latest Flashtool
h) paste the three files, which names start FILE, from blob_fs folder to folder „Firmware“ included in the XPERIA Flashtool
i) open the Flashtool, click on Tools, then click on Bundles, choose decrypt files and put all three files from blob_fs folder to the right columm
j) click ok and after approx. one minute a pop up Window will appear via Flashtool
k) mark all files except simlock.ta and transfer them to the right column, than fill in a box in the right upper corner (fill in what you want, it is just for you)
l) now click ok and Flashtool will create backup of your original firmware customization, that you can anytime flash to your phone

Stock D6503 on 4.4.4 (Build# 23.0.1.A.0.167), want to upgrade soon, maybe root later

Hi All,
I've been using 4.4.4 (Build# 23.0.1.A.0.167) for a while... I've stuck with it for longer than I should have, it's just... I liked the amazing battery life and stability and didn't want to lose that after reading so many bugs with upgrades....
Any how, I was considering, finally, making the jump to the latest via Over The Air from Sony... however, is there anything I should know before taking the leap? Considering I may want to root... should I consider rooting it before the upgrade? Or will it not affect anything and I can upgrade... then root later(or again, does the upgrade prevent/make it harder to root)?
I'm stock right now, but I would like to root the phone eventually...just, I haven't had time to fool with it right now, and it's my only reliable phone that I use daily. Anything I should be aware of that the upgrade/update may impact the root?
Thanks in Advance.
If it's the Marshmallow update, I don't think there is an easy way to root after unless things have changed since I last looked. At least not without unlocking your bootloader. I recommend doing the links below to get a rooted Marshmallow without unlocking your bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe you're TA partition and effect camera performance and some viewing modes
If you root you want to backup your "DRM Keys" as a precaution. Though if you lose your DRM there is a fix on here to recover lost functions after losing keys.
Anyways I recommend using "flashtool" to flash a Lollipop firmware. Then use the 2 guides I've linked below to flash Marshmallow to your phone with root.
This code will root Lollipop with a locked bootloader.

This guide will install a pre-rooted Marshmallow ROM fully stock still with a locked bootloader.

I have a question which relates to what you mentioned.
Unfortunately a while back I unlocked my bootloader not knowing I'd get a negative effect on camera performance as well as viewing modes.
Anyway, I recently relocked the bootloader, did a factory reset, full wipe, dalvic/cache, etc...
I done a clean install of Marshmallow .570 firmware, stock.
I have the feeling that having previously unlocking the bootloader is still affecting me.
In the display setting, when selecting X reality or Super Vivid, it does not make any visible changes!
I double checked my bootloader status and it is locked. Is there any other way I can get back the same camera performance and Sony enhancements as before? If so, how?
Thank you so much if you are able to help.

Thanks bro, I did come across that and it worked wonders! I was so worried I would never get back the quality I had before.
Now I'm finally able to use Sony image enhancements and not having to worry about camera performance and image noise!
The above fix worked 100%
Cheers.:good:

Thanks for the tip. Didn't know that it was hard to root Marshmallow and up from what I get from your post. I'm on KitKat and I'm jumping up to lollipop, I'll be tearing through the guides you posted, appreciate it.
I don't have any music on my phone, but I'll probably do the DRM backup anyways, just as a precaution as you mentioned.
Cheers mate!

Hi All,
I've been using 4.4.4 (Build# 23.0.1.A.0.167) for a while... I've stuck with it for longer than I should have, it's just... I liked the amazing battery life and stability and didn't want to lose that after reading so many bugs with upgrades....

You can fully root your phone without any problem or losing your data and without using PC by this easy way:
1-Download KingRoot from this link: http://www.kingroot.net/wap/download
2- Install it on your phone.
3- Open it and wait until it check for the root installed or not, if it isn't installed then click on the Root icon in the middle and your phone will be fully rooted successfully.
Note: your phone maybe reboot normally during the rooting progress or after it, no problem in it ok
If there is any another question just tell me and i will answer you
What about the changing of kinguser to supersu afterwards as kinguser does not give the same root access permissions as supersu does. Also think it's only the latest version than kills Sony ric older ones will need ric killer. What about recovery? If using 5.1 use NUTS xzd recovery for z2, I'd also wipe the phone when Updating from KK to 5.1 or to mm to get the best results just use sonys back up app and Titanium Backup to save your app data.

Is there any solution to get back DRM keys for SGP511 wifi with marshmallows 6.0.1?

As I am new to the android environment, I didn't back up the DRM keys before unlock the bootloader. Is there any solution to get it back for SGP511 xperia z2 tablet wifi with marshmallows 6.0.1 and 23.5.A.0.575? Thank you so much for the guide.
NO there is no way to restore drm keys but you can get the lost drm features back http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/xperia-z1-z2-z3-series-devices-drm-t2930672 but it works with my z2 idk about the z2 tablet search the thread.

Hi Hariskh,
Except Marlin, Ckb, widevine, HDCP2 unknown error shows after checking from system info. There was no error on myxperia, camera, TrackID, X-reality for mobile. Is there any others item that I missed?
So should I relock Bootloader or restore DRM keys?

Restoring drm keys using the above method will not lock your bootloader it will only restore the lost features that are lost while unlocking bootloader. Secondly why lock the bootloader there is no effect on the phone

Great. So, I will aim to restore back the DRM keys. I sent email to Sony developer teams and they replied me to post the question here. At first, I thought Emma flash tool could solve DRM issue. But, I could not even run it on my MSI windows 8.1. Why? Anyway I managed to install Emma which is not from Sony official website. Finally, I*received the error failed to set up the service for execution context.(any idea?)
All above problem started after I trying to install Cyanogen mod 12.1. Although I followed instruction from CM website, end up I got Bootloop. Then I decided to back to normal. Eventually, I only managed to install back latest marshmallows firmware by using flashtool and Xperiafirm.exe.
