WiFi Connection While At Work? - Samsung Gear S

Here is why I bought my watch (primarily):
I'd like to be able to leave my Note 4 on my desk while I am working elsewhere in the building.....and I often find myself out of bluetooth range. I have searched around a lot and I cannot see if the wifi connection works the same as a Bluetooth connection, only with greater range. I do not currently have a sim card in the watch, and even if I decide to get one later, I dont really want it used if im only a few feet away from the edge of bluetooth range lol. I have read a lot about turning wifi off because it can interfere with remote (3g) connection but that isn't my issue (no sim card to interfere with). I just want to see if the wifi connection will work the same as bluetooth, only with greater range (same building, same network, just further away from my desk). Thanks.
Otherwise, LOVING the phone! Cant wait to try it out when Im back to work in January!

Yes your calls(Call forwarding and messages should work) your app updates will have to wait until your connected to bluetooth again

Thanks again!

Works for me too. I can be across town at the gym and it finds my phone at home as long as the watch is connected to wifi. Or data.

[Q] bandaid for asus pime wifi

Hello to all, I'm wondering if other is anyway to connect my phone to my home router then broadcast that signal to my prime. So instead of using my data from my 3g I would just be rebroadcasting my home wifi signal. I think this would be a type of band aid until the prime gets some kind of fix for wifi farther than 20ft. I thought of this when I went outside and my prime had no signal but my phone did. I thought it would be nice to piggy back that wifi signal my phone is picking up on. I have a tethering plan on my phone that works fine but when I'm right outside my house I hate to use data when my wifi is simi-free.
Thanks to all for any response.
I've been reading about mifi cards as alternative but then thought " is their anyway to buy a unlocked (I'm assuming their locked to carriers) mifi card and instead of it picking up 3g or 4g date can it be modded to pick up the closest or strongest wifi signal and then use its hotspot ability to transmit it." I'm not sure but I would assume that it would have a pretty good receiver in it, at least better than the prime in its current state.
If these are crazy ideas... I can take it I'm a big boy

What about a bog standard wireless access point or repeater, as that way you do not have to worry about connecting to yer phone?
Not sure if this I correct but is a bog standard router just a better router? Also I think a repeater would probably work I just can't seem to be able to find a battery operated small one (pocket sized). The problem I'm running into is that as a firefighter most of our firehouses are brick and concrete with steel mixed in, not the bet setup for wifi. My phone is able to pick up the wifi from pretty far away even though the signal is poor to fair but my prime is not. So I need something that I can slip into my pocket that will pick up the weak signal and boost or simply give the prime a closer access point. We rove to different stations almost everyday so it needs to be something portable. Hopefully this clears up my situation.
Thank you for your reply.
I think you cant connect and broadcast the wifi signal at the same time with your phone. You either use the antenna and hardware to receive a signal or you use it to broadcast but not both at the same time.
Correct me if i'm wrong though
Well that might kill my cell phone idea.... their has to be something that can be done. Besides just fixing the prime.
I have done what you have said but it does depend on what cellphone you currently own. I have a Samsung Galaxy Captivate with an ICS rom and so my phone is able to transfers a Wifi connection right to my prime using Bluetooth.
Also, seems that when my phone loses WiFi connection and switches to 3g my prime auto disconnects so I don't use up my 3g bandwidth.
That sounds about what I need. You don't know if its only that phone? I have a inspire 4g running ICS from the dhd board. Is it app your using or built into your phone or ICS?
I am using the method that is built into the OS.
On your Phone:
Settings -> More... (under Wireless and Networks) -> Tethering and Portable Hotspot ->Bluetooth tethering.
Connect your prime and phone using Bluetooth.
On your Prime:
Settings -> Bluetooth -> Settings button beside your phone's name -> Internet Access
Then if it works the text "Use for internet Access" will switch to "Connected to devices for Internet"
Bluetooth tethering is super slow, there are some apps were you can tether your wifi connection while connected to another wifi network.
Can't think of the name of the top of my head, maybe someone else knows..
Bluetooth tethering worked with my phone so thank you. It does seem to be a lot slower but this was a bandaid for my prime so at least it works. Slow speed is better than nothing. Cost cutter It would be nice if I could find that app your talking about. Was it on the market?
Is it possible to have multiple bluetooth connections without fracturing thoroughput? I.e. run Tablet Talk at the same time.
You might also try a USB wifi stick if you have the dock or adapter.

Wifi scans every 4 or 5 seconds even after connected to wifi network

Does anyone know how to stop the wifi scanner once it connects to a wifi network. I am sure a lot of batter is being wasted to scan for wifi networks. It keeps saying scanning for wifi even after successfully connected to my home network.

If you have sprint... turn off that crap "automatic connection help" bull****. Same thing happened to me till I disabled it.
Hmm..... I have AT&T SGS3. Glad you were able to turn it off.
I saw this as well, but I think it probably only does this when you are looking at the available wireless networks page since that's when you need to see the networks. It probably doesn't when you aren't looking at it. But I guess it's the old argument when a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

If it scans only when I am looking at the wifi settings, then it should be fine. My only concern was that it may be using battery all the time. Thanks.
You should be able to change this in build. Prop

[Q] Carrying more then one phone

Looking around here, i see that plenty of people have more then one phone.
But i don't see any way to make them work together.
How possible would it be to make them connect with wifi / bluetooth?
Have them both ring when a phone-call comes in and make it not matter which you pick up?
Stay connected to the internet on both phones when one loses signal? (living on the border between Belgium and the Netherlands, when one has internet, the other one probably doesn't)
Share audio with 1 Bluetooth headset?
Do you know a way to make any of these happen?

You could pair the two devices together using Bluetooth but that would be for transferring files and other stuff I suppose. I don't think it's possible to have them both ring when a phone-call comes in and have it not matter which phone you answer. To get internet on both phones most people tether phone A's internet connection and create a wireless hotspot and then connect phone B to the hotspot. But if one looses signal then other one would loose internet signal as well, if there is no signal in an area there is no signal, and both devices will be without service. And what do you mean by share audio with 1 Bluetooth headset? You could pair both devices with the same Bluetooth headset if that's what your talking about (For example phone A is paired with Bluetooth headset A and phone B is paired with Bluetooth headset A also).

The problem is that i live on the border between 2 country's, so if i'm in Belgium, i have to set my Belgian phone to tether wifi, my dutch phone to connect to it, and a few hours later il be in the Netherlands and i need to tether my Belgian phone to my dutch one. If i forget to disconnect it, and i leave the country, both phones will not have internet. Then i am home, and i have to select my home wifi. I cross the border 2 or 4 times a day. Doing it manually is a pain.
Both my phones are paired to my headset, but that old thing only connects with one phone at the time.could fix it by buying a new one. But i like the sound of the one i have now.
But correct my if i'm wrong, but the hardware should be capable of much better cooperation between phones. I just can't find software to do stuff. is there any?

That wouldn't work. I would have to give all my friends and contacts a US phone number. They wouldn't ever call me.
But i did figure out a way to properly share internet. Tasker!
While (not roaming) and (not at home(check with gps? Bluetooth of computer in range? certain cell tower? other?)) and (other phone nearby (check with Bluetooth)) tether internet.
Else, connect to wifi.
I guess i have some scripting to do and i should buy a new headset. That way i can answer both phones with the same Bluetooth headset, and share internet.
What is more battery efficient? Bluetooth or WiFi tethering?

"Internet connection is unstable" issue

OK, I've seen a lot of posts in various forums about this issue, but have yet to find a single thread that captures all the details about what I've experienced. Let me know if I should move this conversation into a different thread.
On my home wifi network, I am able to connect, but constantly receive the error "internet connection is unstable", and I cannot pull any data over wifi. I noticed this issue on my home network after returning from a business trip this week. I'd previously seen the issue occasionally in hotels, etc, and had already disabled the "Passpoint" and "Auto network switch settings". That seemed to work on the road, but now that I'm at home, I'm unable to pull any data over wifi.
My home router is a TP-Link Archer C7, running the latest firmware.
Per Verizon and Samsung's advice, I cleared the cache partition, "forgot" and reconnected to the network, tried using safe mode, and tried a factory reset of the phone. I also restarted the router and changed the router's broadcast channels.
Last night, I rooted the phone via Kingo and installed the Jelly 'Beans' rom using SafeStrap, since I wasn't getting satisfactory answers from support. To my surprise, the issue also occurred on the new rom. I'm not an Android expert, but it seems like this means its either:
1) a hardware issue, or
2) a lower-level software issue (radio firmware? not sure how that works)
I removed root and safestrap, to continue support options with Verizon, but I wanted to ping the community here for suggestions. The timing is confusing to me. I'm pretty sure, though not certain, that I've used my home network successfully since the 12/17 OTA update. However, since so many others are seeing issues, it seems unlikely that this is a hardware issue.
Could others describe their issues and router, so we can look for patterns? Let me know if I should move this into a different thread.
Thanks!
Mine does the same thing from time to time but only on certain roms

yeah, I'd seen intermittent issues previously, but all of a sudden it stopped working at home entirely. Still connects to some other networks, although not all.
After seeing a bunch of posts on the Verizon forums (and just the general timing and behavior of the issue) it seemed like a software problem.
Verizon is actually cooperating, so I may just end up replacing this phone. Wondering if anyone else has seen wifi completely break like this.
This is the only thing I can not stand about my note
I have a Zyxel WAP3205 WIFI access point (Wireless G) that I use at both work and at home.
At home, I have Comcast Business Cable internet, and have absolutely no issues connecting to it. The WAP is connected to a Belkin N600 router, which is then connected to my cable modem (not sure of the model, shouldn't matter TBQH).
At work on the other hand, I have constant connection issues. Albeit, I don't get the 'connection is unstable' notification, but I get constant connect/disconnect problems. I also have almost no (most of the time I can't even send/receive text messages at my desk.....) phone signal (ie not even 1X). I'm not sure if that plays into it at all either. The company I work for uses Windstream for their ISP, and it's complete crap to be perfectly honest. Needless to say, it doesn't change the fact that I'm connecting to the internet through the same device (well, same model/firmware/etc...), and I'm having issues at 1 place and not at the other.
I might also add that my tablet (Nexus 7 2013 running CM11) doesn't seem to have these issues at all and works just fine via the WIFI.
That's about the only information that I can provide. I know my internet where I work is complete crap. I sometimes remote desktop back to my home server to browse the web and download files via that because it's actually faster. I'm not even kidding.
I have 2 routers at home and have experienced the same issue as well and none of my other devices have this problem

Verizon is shipping a replacement phone to me tomorrow, so I'll test this out and see if it makes a difference. I'm on the road until Thursday, so it'll be a few days before I can check on my home router.
The behavior on this issue just seems strange. It began intermittently, but then completely stopped working at my house (but still sometimes works elsewhere). Lots of people report intermittent issues, but a few seem completely broken. Not sure what to make of it, I'm just glad I was able to get a different device out of Verizon. We'll see if that actually fixes the problem.
I haven't had this notification until I got the Note3. Is it possible that its android 4.3? Or this tw 4.3? Anybody know if other folks get this with other devices?

I only have this problem if I connect to the wifi at work, which is odd because I'm about 7 unobstructed feet away from the AP. I don't get this anywhere else.
I had a Note2 on stock rom up to 4.3 and never had the issue. I have a 2012 Nexus 7 latest version, again, no problem. It's only on my Note3 with stock rom that this happens.

Same here. Never happened on my Note2 but happens all the time on my Note3. I have two Linksys Routers at home for full house coverage and I can be in the next room and get that message. Just got it earlier. Same routers as I had with the N2 a few months ago. My Tablet, nor the Spouses HTC One Max have that issue and are connecting just fine, and stay connected.
I get this all the time. Got it on stock as well. Only really happens with my ghetto satellite Internet though lol

Has anyone with this issue installed AdBlock and/or an ad-blocking HOSTS file? I didn't start seeing this problem until I did both.
Whenever I see this message I can go into the speedtest.net app and pull a continuous 60mbits down, pretty much maxing my connection, and I never see any actual stability issues.
I think the system may have some connectivity test that's being interfered with but I haven't had time to go digging through the logs yet, so I wanted to see if anyone else had done what I did to trigger it first.
Seems to be two different issues being discussed here without really differentiating the two... the OP states that he is always getting the notification and "can't pull any data over wifi" ... others are saying they are getting the notification without really stating if it is affecting their overall wifi performance at all.
I'm on AT&T DSL... I was getting the notification ALL THE TIME while using the supplied (4 year old) AT&T 2Wire router and it would fail and freeze and disconnect and it was DRIVING ME NUTS... so i went out and got a brand new Netgear N300 router and problem is solved ... mostly
I'm still using the AT&T 2Wire as a modem... disabled it's internal wifi... ethernet cable to the Netgear. .. and BINGO!!! All my connection problems and data problems have gone away... i still get the unstable notification maybe once or twice a week but i figure that's a DSL thing... any little glitches in Internet availability will be detected by the device and displayed so that doesn't bother me at all.
It's almost like this phone does ping tests all the time and if one doesn't come back properly it throws the notification...
i was at a friends house the other day and was getting the notification constantly but was still able to watch YouTube videos and Netflix without much problem... so i did some speed tests on his wifi and his ping and upload were all over the place... His download speed was solid between 20 and 28 but his upload was never even close to normal and failed several times... and his ping was good on some and took forever on others... i also noticed Web pages would sometimes take forever to start loading ... Once they started loading they did so quickly but the start was painfully slow a lot of the time... This would indicate to me that the ping or upload connection has issues or maybe over congested on his iSP.
Anyway... hope this helps others iron things out

When I get the notification, it refuses to use the wifi at all.
I haven't noticed any problems with my WiFi. I host 6 wireless networks, and play with WiFi a lot, War driving, and wireless network setup is a hobby of mine.
One thing I noticed at several throttled Hot Spots My VZW note 3 would test the WiFi speed, if it was slower than 4G it would display a popup, something to the effect "Wireless too slow, using mobile Data" I can't remember the exact popup text. It might be a VZW thing.
I use the OOKLA speedtest, free from the play store. (After you run your OOKLA test, for fun drag the speedometer down to reveal some cool messages about Ookla!
A few wireless router settings I use:
Set 2.4 to N 20 Megs max. N 40 or AC mostly just creates problems with connections, and the neighborhood.
Channels 1, 6, or 11 in USA Use a WiFi analyzer app and pick a less cluttered WiFi channel.
Place wireless router up high away from electronics, construction, and stuffs. Mine is on a pedestal in a window.

Thanks,
I just tested "auto network switch" on and then off. It let me connect to one of my throttled networks, without; "Checking quality of internet connection".
I noticed that it only showed; "network disabled because internet connection is slow" on the congested 2.4 GHz band, not with same router on 5.8 GHz.
Radio interference, location, and router settings, can cause many problems on wireless networks.

You're right, I noticed in my research that multiple issues seem to be getting lumped together. I think you're correct in that it's related to the router as well, somehow. I see the notification occasionally on slow hotel connections, but it's intermittent, my problem at home seems permanent. I can use some other wifi networks without problems, though.
That said, I used this phone on my home router for a couple months before ever seeing this problem. I'm guessing it's a combination of the 12/17 OTA update, and particular router models.
Verizon sent me a replacement phone, and it's running the previous build (MJ7 instead of MJE). I'll check things out tonight, and will report back.
Alright, the issue seems resolved on the new phone. This seems to suggest that it is related to the MJE build. So far this phone hasn't asked for an update, but I'm hoping Verizon doesn't break this again for me

Mate 10 Pro Hotspot issue

Hi, hope I've posted in right place apologies if not!
I can connect devices to my phones hotspot no problem but for some reason the connection/speeds between my phone & PS4 is really low. D/load sits approx 400 kBps and u/load 3 mBps (wifi or USB). I have tried alternating the bandwidth on phone (2.4 & 5ghz) and different channels but no improvement.
Normal tests on phone's 4g (EE) sit around 60/15 mBps.
My previous phone (s6 edge on O2) comfortably worked around 20/4 mBps. Issue is def between Mate 10 Pro & PS4.
Any help gratefully received!
That's very strange, have you tried another device say laptop to see what speeds you are getting?
Sent from my BLA-L09 using Tapatalk
When the home other devices work fine, speeds nowhere near as high as phone's 4G on its own but decent enough ~10mb. At work at minute and signal not strongest but ipad still registers ~4MB download when on hotspot. Still plenty more than PS4 gets. Huawei tech support no help, just passes me to network provider.
From Huawei perspective it's not a Mate Pro fault as it works with other wireless device fine. I will test my PS4 today and report back on my speeds.

I do suspect it's something to do with my handset not necessarily the phone model just hoped they may offer some light as to where I should make changes etc.
Thanks I'll be interested to hear what you get and maybe if you could let me know what the settings default too when you connect so I can check that be great!
hotspot and mobile network functionality issues
For some strange reason when the mobile hotspot is turned on the mobile network on the phone which allows me to send text messages and make phone calls seems to fail. Has anybody experienced the same problem? Well I'm previous phones I can have a hotspot on and have up to 4 maybe more devices connect it and still be able to use the phone at the same time, i e: text messages, phone calls, multimedia messages, playing online games on the phone, looking at videos on the phone, even the internet. I think it may be the mate 10 Pro because I have not experienced this problem with any other phone.
Iam experience the same problem I tried everything . nothing helps. I see that iam broadcast my hotspot wifi signal. But no device can connect.
No worry brother, I just back from huawei services center and they well notice Hotspot issue and promise will fix it on next update.
