Just get the smallest sim card and ask to be put on the 35 family plan if you already got a line and yeah it works just like that, no need to unlock

I have 3 lines on my account on AT&T. I went up to Metro PCS to see how much money I could save and they quoted me the exact same price as I'm paying now with AT&T. The only difference is Metro offered me less data. I was like nahhh I'm good. Thanks anyway.

I looked it up online and it looked like a good deal. One ad said $30 dollars another one said $50 with expanded data. I walked into their store and told the guy I'm coming from AT&T and wanted to save money. He said if I brought all my 3 lines to Metro and got the 4 GB LTE data plan I'd be paying $135 a month for their family plan. I said I'm getting 10 GB of data from AT&T with 2 smartphones and a Gear S for $135 after taxes. He didn't have anything to say to that so I thanked him and walked out.

I'm so tired of the T-Mobile fan club.
They've renamed "throttling" to "de-prioritizing" but are now applying the same speed caps as everyone else to some percentage of their biggest data users. At 133GB I'd say your days are numbered.

I agree with you. There's no doubt T-Mobile speeds can be fast. I know a guy who gets 64 mbps down on his T-Mobile One Plus One running Cyanogen. I must be getting a good deal with AT&T tho because nobody has enabled me to save money by switching yet. I could always go to Sprint and get my bill cut in half, but then I'd have to turn in all my phones and switch to CDMA which I don't want to do.

They give me 10 GB of rollover data with unlimited talk and text on 3 lines. All lines share the same data. I just checked and they don't offer the 10 GB plan anymore.

Being on any MVNO sucks if you roam internationally. They all also get de-prioritized over native traffic when the network is congested and in some cities (NYC, SFO) that's quite a bit of the time. Being on T-mobile or any of their MVNO's sucks because they have a lot of high frequency spectrum which makes indoor reception sketchy. T-mobile is a multi-billion dollar public company who's mission is to generate above industry financial returns to their shareholders. They aren't benevolent. So far they've proven they can move market share (they're still #4 BTW) by giving up profit/margin. The jury's still out until the latter starts to increase.
I am thankful to them though. I pay AT&T $70ish a month for three devices and 7GB of data and that includes the $10 a month for the Gear S I just bought from them for $149.
No wireless carrier is anyone's "friend." It's choosing between the best of a bad lot. Talking about pricing, service, and support on XDA is educational. Trying to pimp others toward a specific carrier not so much. Everyone here values different things.

Thanks for confirming this for me as I have metroPCS Unlimited no throttle plan, too bad we can't get this turned on a tablet plan. LoL
I just won this watch for 145 USD I guess now it's time to sell my Original Galaxy Gear rooted with custom TWRP recovery and Null_ 23 rom. LoL!! The curves will go nicely with my Note Edge. haha

Stupid Queston About The Gear S Activation & MetroPCS
@jcar6245 When I get it do I need to activate it to my phone and then take it into metroPCS for activation? I got a Note Edge, but I didn't know if I need to get service turned on imei activation first and then sync it to my phone or vice versa. LoL
That process got the best of my dyslexia, I guess it doesn't really matter which way ya do it right?

Damn I'm on metro pcs with four phones and two have hotspot for just 105.00 I was curious how much it would be to add a smart watch

What is up with Verizon fees wtf?

So I am about to be 14 days in my Verizon contract and they are charging me these hidden fees called Verizon fees and its like $13 a line so in total my bill come to like 180 something with my 19% discount without it was supposed to be 220
But when I did the quote online it was 137 without taxes and my discount included
180 without taxes and no discount
So do the math and this is not including the activation.
End of rant
Anyone else get these fees because T-Mobile and att don't do these fees
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I do believe when they quote online it doesn't include taxes etc.
the best thing to do is call 611, and ask what are these fees on my bill.

Agreed, I've only ever run into issues when changing plans and then they prorate the service. Haven't had that issue in years though I'm sure it's still a problem.
I did mine online and it said 73.00 without taxes and my discount. Than i called and they said 90.00 without discount. Is this right?

I just checked my first bill and besides hitting me with all possible kinds of fees (chicago 911 fee wtf?) my monthly access charges are almost $20 more than what verizon web site shows when shopping for a new plan!
I'm having 2 browsers open side by side as we speak and my bill shows $239.94 monthly access charge while verizon store shows 223.95!
for this very reason I switched from sprint years ago! I'll call customer service and try to work something out, but if they think we're all saps they're sooo wrong! I'll be back with T-mobile in no time and I'll make sure all of my friends know who's the best wireless provider! I've never had issues like this with T-mobile!
I was expecting my cell phone bill to go up a bit but this is going to almost double it!!!

Your first bill is always WAY higher than it will normally be. Not only do you have those government taxes that EVERY cell network has to charge in your area, but you have your 35.00 activation fees, as well as most peoples first bill has a full month and a partial month of access fess. Then you have your taxes on top of that which are also higher than normal since they are the taxes on the entire bill. If you went to a store you should have gotten a first bill estimation page with all your paper work. I know the in store reps are required to print one and go over it with every customer so they know what to expect on the first bill and dont act exactly like this.

Using AT&T One on T-mobile

I was a bit impatient and jumped the gun and bought the ONE at Walmart for $148 with a 2 year contract. But already during my first week I realize I'm using up my minutes rather quickly and being limited kinda sucks.
I definitely want to keep the phone cause its flawless and I keep reading about other peoples flawed phone and I already added SquareTrade insurance.
I was thinking of paying the early termination fee of $325 which makes the phone only $473 which is cheaper than I could get it from TMobile.
Question is would I be able to add this phone to T Mobile prepaid plans and not be stuck on Edge network for data?

Don't do it - the data speeds on at&t through Straight Talk are HORRENDOUSLY capped - I had them for over a year where I didn't have T-Mobile coverage... An absolute headache! Most of the at&t MVNOs truly suck if you want data... I've heard of people not being speed capped on Red Pocket though.

Go read the horror stories about the capped data speeds on Straight Talk. I'll give you a great example. My dad did a speed test right next to me, both of us around -90dBm on HSPA... I shot up to 3Mbps and then was slammed down to around 800kbps consistently while he was running upwards of 8 and 9 on the downstream... Even further evidence of the cap? My upstream was 1900Kbps and his was 1950. Both of us using Captivates, same radio, same ROM. Only difference is he had post-paid at&t (and thus was able to use at&t's postpaid APN).
But by all means, its worth a try - no contract and all - good luck dealing with customer service to get your phone working in the first place though, they are worse than Sprint. :good:
Another option to consider is VoIP... If you have a Google Voice number, you can set up SIP. Its not the easiest thing in the world to do but you get unlimited calls... There are many different SIP solutions in the Play Store.

I learned my lesson the hard way with Straight Talk but if he takes his One and puts it on T-Mobile, he will be on EDGE most of the time unless he's in a refarmed 1900MHz area or has LTE. at&t's version doesn't support HSPA over AWS.

If you are looking to save over the long term, return the AT&T model and get the T-Mobile model... you can use it with Straight Talk (T-Mobile BYOD) or with direct T-Mobile. T-Mobile is the only way to get LTE though. You get a larger data bucket with ST but you're limited to HSPA+... its really all a matter of what you need.
Solavei might be a good option too, especially if you have good T-Mobile service in your area - they will knock 20 bucks a month off their 49 dollar fee for every 3 people you get to sign up with Solavei, for as long as they keep their service.

They are rolling out their network insanely fast. OpenSignal has T-Mobile LTE showing up all over the place. Obviously test towers but they are going to flip the switch on the most advanced LTE network, something nobody else can say!
The simple and correct way to this mess is to just frikin use the same carriers data as matched to that carriers branded device .Using att phone on tmobile or vise versa just never cuts it ,unless you want 2g more so than not... And you want to render the phones capabilitys useless and waist your money on 2g ,This should only be done out of desperation, say like if your phones broke and it's a temp solution.

Moving to Straight Talk with no Sim Unlock?

For those with a T-Mobile (USA) HTC One you may be interested to know that I just inserted my Straight Talk Sim (T-Mob version) and it worked with no need to Sim Unlock. I'd got the sim unlock code from an E Bay seller but did not need to use it.
Having now created the new APN all works fine - in fact, and for some weird reason, the data connection is slightly faster on the Straight Talk Sim! Cannot account for that but was typically getting 3-4Mbs on T-Mob sim and now get 5-6Mbs on Straight Talk - could be a coincidental T-Mobile increase in the output?
I am using the ARHD 10.2 ROM (it's excellent) but there is nothing (that I am aware of) within a ROM change process that would normally unlock the sim so I assume it just works because it's on the same network?
Your Straight Talk SIM is probably a TMo one. That is the main reason you don't need to unlock the phone. I believe TMo throttle it's 4G but not for those virtual operators.

Be aware though, if you got the phone on EIP and didn't finish paying, they can and will still blacklist it. I learned the hard way when someone didn't pay their EIP on a Note 2 I had purchased from craigslist.

If he's the original owner of the HTC One, Tmo will just send him a bill for remaining EIP balance anyway.
I am curious as to how Simple Mobile is though.
I'd go for Tmo's $30/month prepaid but I use way more than 100 minutes a month.
Please, do share more of your experiences with Simple Mobile as time goes on.

Do the test drive for 7 days. Test out the service in areas that you visit and live in. If it's all good, then just return the phone for free and sign up. You're not going to be risking anything.
Awesome....didn't realize this was available. ...will do thanks

Haven't seen Big red in a long time.
Oh, and post No. 3 has the plan. Do the test drive.

Just fyi, they only give you an iPhone which IMO has one of the worst antennas in any phone (especially on tmobile).

I'd try moving the SIM from the iphone to your unlocked S5 for the test drive.
SIM adapters are cheap if the iphone uses a different sized SIM.

No idea if he has a S5. But since he's posting in a S5 forum, it's a distinct possibility that he may have an S5 from his previous carrier.
And the suggestion may be in interest to others who subsequently read the thread as well.

Well yeah, has probably has one from verizon...big red. You can't use that on tmobile (as you know).
I switched to T-Mobile over a year ago from Verizon.
I was on Verizon for 6 months but couldn't stand the high prices for data.
I paid the etf of over $300 and never looked back.
I knew I'd make up the $300 in 6 months with the money I'd be saving. Everything after that would be gravy.
This is what I did:
- I had the S3 with Verizon for 6 months
- I went to the T-Mobile store across the street
- I checked out the S4 and signed up. I was issued a new phone number because I didn't want to port over from Verizon yet as I wanted to see how the reception was in the areas I frequent.
- I had a 14 day trial period.
- I still had my S3 active.
- After 2 days, I went back to Tmo and ported my number from Verizon.
I never looked back and have saved a ton of money, and continue to do so.
I have Unlimited LTE data, and never have to worry about data overages or throttling.
I even got reception with my S4 where I could not with my S3.
I don't know if this was because the S4 had a better antenna than the S3, or if it was because Tmo had more towers in that area. I think it was the latter, as the Tmo map showed I'd get reception and I did.
I now have the S5 with Tmo and am really satisfied with the S5 and the Tmo network and service.
I'm on Jump 1, so I can upgrade my device every 6 months no matter what I owe on the device to be traded in.
Jump 2 is now available, but I am grandfathered into my original Jump 1.
Lol.....love it....and thanks

I just switched to T-Mobile from Sprint....and compared to Sprint's horrible service in the Denver area the service improvement is HUGE!
This is what I did (may not be entirely ethical in the grand scheme of things, but is legal)
My 2 year contract with Sprint was due to be done in August of this year. In June, Sprint notified me that I could get a new phone and renew a new 2 year contract early.
I signed up online for the tmobile try before you buy plan. I'm not a fan of the iphone but it was cool to verify the service was better than what I had and worked everywhere I needed before making any commitment to change. 1 week was long enough to know (actually 5 minutes was long enough but I took the entire week).
Kept an eye on techbargains.com for a free or 1 cent tmobile sim card....to avoid paying $10 for one in the store.
Bought a cheap SPRINT smart phone on ebay for around $15.00 (I think...although it may have been $35...)
Went ahead and renewed my contract with Sprint and paid $199 for a brand new HTC M8.
Signed up at tmobile, ported my Sprint number, used the sim card I paid 1 cent for and traded in the cheap smart phone I got on ebay. My next bill from sprint had a $350 early termination fee which I paid and then submitted to tmobile as they will pay up to a $350 early termination fee.
The parts I'm still working on are to receive the $350 etf reimbursement from tmobile (they say up to 12 weeks) and to sell the brand new HTC M8 and my old, still working, Sprint S3 on ebay.
My bill did go up about $30 per month but I have the jump protection and I'm paying ~$27 a month in a payment plan for my new S5.
Long story, but so far one with a happy ending!

I've had Verizon and sprint, my data speeds of 1.5 Meg finally did me in, couldn't take it anymore, T-Mobile has been great for me, they paid my full Etf (1800.00) and my data speed on lte are averaging 55...well worth it for me..

Five lines, renewed contract in March so they were all at 350 each still for the Etf... That was sprint, I live in Washington state and calls were great but the data sucked ass, T-Mobile is pretty damn good up here, the fastest test speed I have got is 107 Meg... Best on lte with sprint was like 2.7 Meg... What sucks though is with sprint you have to pay tax on the Etf which T-Mobile doesn't cover, so came out of pocket for taxes on almost 1800.00... But well worth it in the end.
I've moved my personal lines to T-Mobile from Verizon here in Cincinnati. Right now, the jury is still out on the move. The main reason for switching is the international plans T-Mobile offers. I went to a concert at Paul Brown Stadium and couldn't get service.

Verizon Rep here to tell you of new promotion!

Starting 4 days ago 10gb of data is the same cost as 6gb, for 80$ and 12gb is 100$

Well, when someone tries to spoon-feed you poop and tries to convince you that it's caviar, that's the type of response you're going to get.
If my unlimited "vanishes", so will my account with big red. No skin off my back.

Typical verizon, we don't care if our customers like our crap or are happy, as long as we have them by the gonads, we're happy.
If verizon cancels my unlimited it will void my contract and I will take my 3 lines and 140 dollar a month of business somewhere else.
The ONLY reason Verizon still has my business is for the unlimited plan. Loosing that, looses a customer. Their comstant locking down phones is frusterating.
I'm not on anyone's side just so you know unlimited plans make up less then 5% of their business and no one has LTE or even basic coverage like Verizon.

In my area of travel, ATT actually has the best coverage & LTE speeds. I am a Verizon customer & my signal is poor compared to my wife's on ATT.
If I loose my unlimited, I am gone to ATT. I can get better deal on 10gb plan.
That's great for you but for many it's not like that.

I get 15 gigs of data for 100$ I also got Verizon to give me 1 gig of data as a promo.
Iv only been with Verizon for about 2yrs.
I work from the Artic Ocean/North Slope of Alaska to South TX. Hands down Verizon rules where I'm at as stated 4G and basic. I had 10 go plan but jumped last month for 30 bucks more to the 30gb plan. For 130 I get 32gb (I also have an additional 2gb of promo) it's not unlimited but for current pricing and comparison to other companies it's the only way to go for me. I think it's like 225 or something crazy now if you want 30gb.
If you are on an unlimited plan and you use more than 30GB...my guess is that Verizon wouldn't mind you leaving their network! Some of you make it seem like Verizon needs your business. lol
Thank you for letting us know about this option. How does one go about getting it? I previously had Unlimited Data. I didn't want to pay the outrageous price at the time for a Note 3 outright from Ebay, Swappa, etc. So I dropped my Unlimited to 6GB. Not that I fully use 6GB anymore. Dropped Spotify once I dropped Unlimited Data. The 10GB would be a nice option.

Here is what I found out about this upgrade.
Me:Was there any truth behind the 10gb of data is the same cost as 6gb?
VZW: That is correct with our More Everything plans, that share within Unlimited talking and texting with a shared amount of data.

Yeah. my plan is 3g shared with 3 phones. We bend over for the man a lot with the bill... but I got tired of hopping around carriers. Besides the painful cavity search with my money, I'll stick with Verizon til AT&T owns them... like everything else.

Since I'm on month-to-month, if my unlimited disappears, I'll just throw a T-Mobile SIM into my phone and get my unlimited back.

Att can never own Verizon, a Verizon is 10x the size of att, they generate more revenue and fcc and ftc would never allow the merger it would create a monopoly also I represent att if anything they going under before Verizon

I see you got digs for all the other carriers. Problem is, people aren't going to continue to get raped with these prices. So, Verizon will keep losing customers until they get better prices and plans.
So, when I lose my unlimited I can either:
- Pay $80/mo. for 1 GB of data on Verizon
or
- Pay $80/mo. for UNLIMITED data on T-Mobile.
That's a no-brainer. I've been a loyal customer of Verizon for years and years. But when my unlimited comes to an end, so will my loyalty because these new plans and pricing are just flat-out garbage.
I'm not going to stay on the same carrier to pay alot more and get alot less. Never going to happen.
