No auto brightness in tablet mode? - Asus Padfone X and S

I know it sounds stupid but it was bugging me. In phone mode you have auto brightness on the pull down menu. In tablet mode you don't. If it wasn't obvious enough I'll make it more obvious. The reason why there is no auto brightness in tablet mode is because there is no sensor on the tablet, it is on the phone. And the sensor on the phone gets covered up in tablet mode. I just thought I would point this out in case anyone else is scratching their head about it like I was.

Trying to figure out the point of this post....

It's called information dear Watson. It is in case someone wondered why there is no brightness setting in tablet mode the answer is here. That is why the post is here. Compared to your post which is not helpful at all...troll. ;p

To get back on topic, don't have one myself, but aren't the sensors on the phone itself? Which when docked leaves the proximity and light sensors covered by the lcd of the tablet docking cradle?

That's correct wtfbob...The light sensors won't work in tablet mode because they're on the phone itself.Another goof with Asus with this model...

Keyboard lights will not deactivate, where is slide sensor?

My old Wizard recently received touchscreen damage so I tried to replace it with one from eBay. Unfortunately they sent me the wrong one so I just reassembled it. Not a big deal except for some reason the keyboard lights are on permanently whenever the phone is powered on.
In fact, if the phone is powered off and charging it still comes on.
The screen still has correct orientation for keyboard slid out or in, ie it will switch between landscape/portrait properly. But the lights will not go off!!
Anyone know where the keyboard slide sensor is? It does seem a mystery, I can't see a switch or even a magnetic sensor, how does this device know when the keyboard is open? Also I heard the keyboard backlight is hardware controlled, that doesn't bode well, does it
Well, the lights are indeed hardware controlled, which does bode HORIBBLY for anyone wanting to STAY lit for more than 10 seconds...much less for someone that has them on all the time! Sounds to me like you have a hardware problem though man....perhaps try to locate a new mobo or keyboard section, they are not that expensive and see if that fixes your problem.

[Q] Enabling the Accelerometer in Standby?

Hi!
Am I alone in thinking it is stupid that Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 disables the accelerometer when the screen is turned off?
I can't find any information about this.
I would so much love to have have the accelerometer switched ON in standby. It must be a software setting that controls this?
Where is it?
With the accelerometer ON in standby one can silence the tablet just by flipping it, even when the screen is black.
With the accelerometer ON in standby one doesn't HAVE to plug in the power adaptor when you are tracking your sleep at night.
Who else has thought about this? Anyone know what to do about it? Anyone know anything more than me about it?
Please tell.
Kind regards
Svein Daniel
Hmm, well, aside from thinking that this would cause undue battery drainage, it begs the question, "why would you want the accelerometer active when the screen is off and nothing else is active?".
I didn't say I wanted that?
Didn't I explain that with the accelerometer on, I could save batterylife when I use a sleeptracking app (which otherwise must keep the screen active) and I would be able to mute the tablet just by flipping it (lik when playing music etc)?

Dont cover your sensors when turning screen on

So I figured I would post this up just in case people are going crazy about turning on their display, and then having it turn right back off on them lol. There are sensors at the top of the device by the ear speaker. When turning on the device make sure your fingers remain clear of those sensors for 1 second, if those sensors do not pick up light source by being blocked off (try it, press the power button while covering the sensors), the display will turn back off. Same thing goes for Knock on, the display wont even turn on at all. Keep your fingers clear of those sensors!
I dont think this is a design flaw I think LG inadvertently did this to keep from the device from turning on in your pocket by accidentally hitting power on knocking on while in your pocket. it might also attribute to poor knock on feature in low light areas or night time.

There's also a bug which emulates the same symptoms, while the sensor is not blocked. Changing the screen-off effect to different effect, is a work around for those caught with the issue.

Its interesting that LG went with this sensor design. This sensor thing is kinda weird seeing as people will no doubt block this sensor and trigger this effect without even realizing what they are doing, making people think their device is broken. LOL im sure this is talked about in the instruction guide but who the heck reads those things now?

Energy saving feature

Hi guys,
Recently, I was using this tablet to play a video under "Stamina mode" and all other energy saving features turned on in Settings/Power Management and discovered a phenomenon that I don't know previously.
A phenomenon was observed, the display shuts itself off at random times when and only when the device is being held up-side-down.
Turning off "Stamina mode" and this phenomenon does not reappear.
I can not think of any reason why this should occur and not when the device is held in any other orientation.
This tablet's screen can be turned on/off with a magnet in cover.
However, if the user decides to relax and use the tablet while up-side-down, I don't see the intelligent side of this in Stamina mode while device is held up-side-down.
Really, try it out on your tablet, this phenomenon is hysterical and quite annoying.
Do you use the tablet up-side-down?
And do you think this is a reasonable feature?
My device doesn't show this behavior.
yes i have noticed it i thought i was going mad.... but i have repeated it several times.. i quite often rest the tablet upside down under my nose to watch the tv then i flip it back up and the screens turned off.!! i thought i must have bumped the power switch or something, but I've repeated it several times now... very odd if is a feature. it's like flip to sleep or something...
i just had a thought maybe in stamina mode it turns this on.... flip to turn off or it's the eye ball tracking thingy when it can't see you looking at the screen it turns it off.....
just had a look in display settings its called smart back light control. but its not turned on.. so it's not that.
must just be the tilt sensor is enabled to turn the screen off when it's tilted flat on it's face..

I have experimented with this several times. It depends on whether or not the device has moved or stationary.
Since, this only happens face down, so it is annoying.
So, it's like telling you not to lying on your back to watch a Firework show using Stamina mode for example.
If you lay the device face down on a table using Stamina mode it will turn off the screen shortly after obviously to save energy.
And if it is held up-side-down it turns off the screen randomly as it detects no motion. So, the user isn't likely to continuously shake the device while looking at the device up-side-down for any reason.

Proximity sensor broke amd always on display..

I am new to the site so hello to all.
I have a sprint LG V30 with android 8.0. I recently had the screen replaced as my fone fell out of my pocket, in the rain, then got ran over by a car. Yes it DID survive but had to replace the screen. Anyway, the proximity sensor no longer works so I turned it off. So the light sensor seems to control my always on display. When it's slightly dark, the A.O.D. turns off and wont come back on until i put it near a light or press the power button 3 times. My question: how do I make it so the A.O.D. always stays on?
Thankyou for any help (^-^)

Get the repair done right? LG will do it right.
Proximity sensor lets the phone know if it's just a dark room or if you've flipped the phone over on the desk, or you have a flip case and it's closed. If the latter two, then no need for the AOD to even be on.

I get that but, I want the AOD to stay on. So how do I disable the light sensor so the AOD will stay on?

I don't think you can, which is why my suggestion was to get it repaired correctly ("get the repair done right"). Whoever repaired it botched the job.
