[Q] Lenovo A588T numeric keys for text - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just recieved a Lenovo A588T and it's a pretty good phone if you overlook the 512mb RAM limitation.
But my problem is when it comes to the keyboard, I can only use the physical keys to type numbers, even though the keys have letter imprints, so one would assume that typing is possible with them.
The phone came with AOSP keyboard so I think the seller may have flashed a international keyboard to give me a hand, and the phone language was set to english.
I've tried many keyboards that include options for hardware keyboards to no avain, even null keyboard and with all these I've only been able to type numbers.
Is there anywhere I can find a flashtool and the original ROM for this phone to check if the seller flashed an English keyboard?
How can I type letters using the hardware keys?
Also, there's a button on the top right that depicts a house and a heart, no idea what it does, if I hold it down on the homescreen it asks if I want to activate "easy mode".
Thanks

Ok, I flashed the original firmware using SP_Flash_Tool and an official ROM provided by lenovo, now I have a keyboard called Sogou Input Method wich does respond when I press the keys, but I can only use the spacebar on the screen and the predictions are terrible because it's intended for chinese input.

Totally off topic, but I'm having trouble finding pretty much anything about the Lenovo A588T. Seems like I can't even find any official Lenovo site listing it...
I'm wondering: Did you try or manage to root your A558t or get the Google Play Store working on it? I tried installing Google Play Services w/o root as an APK but it keeps crashing. Haven't had any luck with root either, I tried iRoot/vroot which was listed on lenovosj.com but it's not working.

Hi,
I have recently bought a Lenovo A558T and am also not able to use the qwerty keyboard but I am also a bit slow on computer matters so I didn't fully understand how you actually sorted out the problem.
Could you run me through it again on a blow for blow basis (treat me like a complete idiot) ?
Thanks
Mike

Are you in the US?
Which carrier do you use? From what I can tell, only 2G will be available in the US. I'm seriously thinking about getting this for my mom though. The current phone she is using is running Gingerbread...
What experiences do you have (other than the keyboard)? Did you root it?
Regarding the keyboard, since there are some software keyboards which simulated T9, I would think it shouldn't be difficult for them to add support to a physical keyboard which is providing only numeric keys as input. That is, their software may not work yet with a physical keyboard, but it would seem like it would be a good selling point for their T9-like input if it did support a physical keyboard... Maybe if you ask one of them nicely? For example, there's "(EvenBetter)NumberPad Keyboard", but I noticed it hasn't been updated since 2012!

It looks like this is the only topic on this phone on XDA. I guess it's as unpopular as it gets.
E-Chan42, was your issue resolved? How is your current experience with this phone? Liking it? Hating it?
Anyone else anything to share? I'd love to hear your feedback!

Same problem
I have the same phone and using here in the US and I have the same problem with the keyboard. Since the number keys don't work as letters the lower bottom half of the phone is basically useless. I have searched all over and found only this thread so I guess I'm out of luck.

Yeah, sorry I've taken my time to respond, but here's what I've been trying with this phone.
I reinstalled the official lenovo rom with the keyboard app they ship it with. I CAN use the keyboard to type but it's a huge waste of time, because I can't activate non dictionary input and the sugestions it gives are pretty terrible. To the point where it recommends he'j'lo before hello.
I tried another keyboard https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.nyanya.android.traditionalt9&hl=en wich promissed t9 input and cycle key (like press twice the 2 key for b, thrice for c) but for some reason it doesn't work correctly on this phone, and only outputs the desired keys when you type at a snail pace.
So, to anybody considering this phone, consider another optionor develop a keyboard app.
Anybody got any idea on how to get this working? I'll upload a couple of pics so you get the general idea of what's going on.

I was thinking on trying to get my hands on a Samsung Galaxy Golden ROM and extract the keyboard apk, probably it will have international support but I can't find one anywhere

If you don't mind me asking, where did you find all your info (The official lenovo rom, etc)? I just received the phone and while I do like it a lot I would love to use the keyboard, even if it's snail typing.

Yeah, sorry I took my time, but I've been hella busy, here's a link I uploaded to mega with all the stuff related to this phone, flashing software and ROMs included https://mega.co.nz/#!mkAUHabD!ADPmm3AJzI0fIrLgIaS-AWJj51OtjPWXAfhqa-cA6bc
If anybody wants a mirror just ask

I've taken the time to write down my experiences on how to flash the device with a stock firmware by Lenovo, root with SuperSU, CWM recovery and Google apps. You can read it here: myrl.net/article/43
As for the keyboard, the best app I found so far was indeed the one @E-Chan42 already suggested: Traditional T9 Keypad IME - play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.nyanya.android.traditionalt9
Getting it directly from the Google Play store doesn't work however as the phone is not listed as supporting this app. Try to google for an apk (be careful where you go) or compile it yourself from the official source code: github.com/Clam-/TraditionalT9
Unfortunately I can't directly link to outside URLs and I just spent about 10 minutes posting this due to ****ing unreadable reCAPTCHAs. Thanks xda-developers!

That tutorial is spot on! I finally have my CWM backups back! I'm so happy!
Do you have any experience with the a588t dropping calls as soon as they're dialed? I can't get mobile data running either, my service provider is correctly displayed on my statusbar as well as my signal strength.

confirmed IB2K7 methods,
you will need to manually enter APN settings for carrier, I use cricket that piggybacks on the AT&T network and have not had a dropped call.

Yeah I set my APN as soon as I powered on my phone, still I think it's strange I my phone identifies my provider's name but can't dial out, same happens with every SIM card I've tried for different companies

Make sure your IMEI numbers match the label on the inside back of your phone. I fixed mine using imei tool from youtube watch?v=c_SRdyZ7DAk but there are a bunch of different methods

Thanks! That really worked! Somewhere along the lines of so much flashing I lost my IMEIs

Hi ya,
I've just received my A588t and having the same problem re-numeric only on keypad ! Did you ever manage to sort it, so the keypad functioned for letters as well as numbers ??!! Have to say it's doing my head in trying to get it to work !!! Kevin

Is there any new updates in regard to this? I just got the phone myself and found this thread. It's quite annoying to find that the keypad isn't fully functional.
If ever I wanted to make it work, do I need to do everything that IB2K7 said? When I got the phone, it's already in english and I could access the play store.

There is no need to flash the phone again if it's already English and has Play store installed. The only reason I did this was because mine didn't have Play store installed. So far I haven't found any better solution than what I've written before:

Black ROM for WM6

Is anyone using the black rom on their ATHENA/ADVANTAGE/AMEO WITHOUT issues. I have been reading the threads and am a little leary since most people are posting some kind of issue. I see that the black ROM shows a phone icon and assume that this icon activates the phone display which is primarily what I want.
I would like to find a rom/soft that allows me to have i-phone-like dedicated buttons (possibly with on/off toggle feature like menu settings in WM6 or customizable) on the screen that allow me to activate specific functions ESPECIALLY phone.
Are there any "cooks" that have successfully done this?
Well, I personnaly use Black Dual PK 3 without any issue other than those of the software they include.
More specifically, I have had no problem with the HTC Home plug-in, wktask, etc.
I did disable the Quick Launch today plug-in, that I found cute but way to long-winded to cusomize, as well as extremely basic, and replaced it with the well-known iLauncher.
Having most used applications two screen-touches away at most is ALSO a bottom-line need for me. iLauncher, along with the launcher integrated in the HTC Home plug-in, fullfil that need quite nicely and practically.
I therefore have nothing to envy iPhone users, quite the contrary actually, in my opinion.

I am in USA using tmobile. Do you know if the items you mention will work with tmobile? Do you have links for them?
No reason why they shouldn't work with T-Mobile, they're not directly phone-related.
HTC Home is the big Today plug'in that can be seen at the top of the screen on Black Dual PK 3 related threads, displaying the clock and stuff.
Let me take and show a few screenshots of my current setup... There !

This one shows the small animation iLauncher provides when switching tabs.
And finaly, this one shows how well Audio Manager integrates into HTC Home. So the Athena's a very decent mp3 player interface-wise, IMHO; with this ROM at least.
Top is HTC Home, bottom is iLauncher and PocketBreeze (both of which are not supplied with the ROM, of course).
I appriciate you sharing this with me. I like what I see and will give it a try. there are a couple of things that I don't know. I am really a basic newbie at this.
**Can I back up my existing setup\ROM and go bnack to it if I want?
If so, how do I achieve it?
**Are the additional items that are not in the ROM free to dowload? where can I find them?
**How long does the whole process take to do?
**Are ther how-tos posted somewhere for newbies like me who have only half a clue?
I am ready to learn all I can. I am happy to meet someone who has the knowledge.

No problem really. And I know that wile the forum is so rich in terms of information that it is the single place where you can find pretty much anything you want to know about the Athena, this information is so disseminated that it can be overwhelming.
guardm said:

Of course. Easiest way to do that is:
- to find your current ROM on the internet and download it to your PC for "safekeeping";
- use Sprite Backup that is provided free of charge with the Athena and backup your entire system (you don't absolutly need to back-up what's on the microdrive as it is left untouched by ROM upgrades. Of course, it is always best to backup as often as you can whetever data you deem important) to the microdrive, and then put that on your desktop 'puter along with the original ROM for safekeeping. You can make a self-restoring archive so that you don't even need to reinstall Sprite Backup if you go back to original.
All you'll have to do in order to go back to your current setup will be to flash the original ROM back and then restore the Sprite Backup back-up.

There are thousands of items to download free of charge for PocketPCs, and hundreds of sites to download them from, that's the beauty of Pocket PCs (Windows Mobile-based PDAs).
A place I like as a "starter" is www.pocketpcfreeware.com, one of those I've been using for years. It doesn't ave them all, but it has the essentials, and it's an excellent "point of entry" into the fabulous world of PocketPC (PPC) freeware.
A good freeware launcher is cLaunch. It's not as pretty and customisable as iLauncher (which displays the small iPhone-like buttons on my screenshot), but it is still very good. And there are a number of things that ressemble PocketBreeze (the bottom plug-in that shows my appointments and stuff). The HTC Home plug-in is provided with the Black Dual by PK ROM, and requires little customisation effort.
guardm said:

Well, depends on what you do, how much you customize, etc. But mainly:
- 3 minutes to hard-SPL your Athena (which allows you to flash any ROM you want to your Athena - this is mandatory);
- 5 to 10 minutes to flash your new ROM, I'd say;
- 5 minutes to go through all there is to go through when you hard-reset your device (what you did when you first turned it on: setting the date, calibrating the screen, etc.);
- 15 Minutes to install the Black Dual by PK ROM add-ons.
And then, it all depends on what you install, and how much you tweak.
With practise, in less than an hour, you can have flashed your Athena to a new ROM, and installed 30 applications with a little bit of "tuning".

Not many how-tos, alas. First of all things you should do is to read through the Athena Wiki, which will at once let you know many things about your Athena and get you familiar with the "terminology" (most people here, myself included, have forgotten that you don't learn what a "soft key", for instance, is at school ).
Then the stickies in each forum.
And keep posting here. Dunno, maybe that thread COULD become a "beginner's walkthrough"...
WOW!!! that's a lot to absorb and digest. I will take small bites and work at it. Again, the wealth of information is present. And thanks to people like yourself, I can learn somke things that I didn't know. thanks for the education. I will post with my results and potential questions in the next few days.
I used the cooked ROM on my Athena with TMobile without any issues. I've since changed over to AT&T for the 3G but you shouldn't have any problems with TMobile. If you use their VPN Internet plan you'll just have to change the settings a little but nothing a little searching or a call to TMobile tech support won't resolve in an instant. Any time support tries to tell me they don't support my device, I return with a question of "What, you don't support Windows Mobile 6?"...that shuts them up quick and give me what I need. Good luck and you'll be flashing to a superior ROM.

it does appear that this ROM is superior in many aspects....
thanks for the support
Well guys, I already encountered my first hurdle. The ROM upgrade attempt was unsuccessful. The ROM update returned a message that my rom image is corrupt. I downloaded the original "shipped" ROM from the HTC site and will attwmpt to load that to start "factory fresh" and try the cooked ROM again......

Unless you purchased the phone used, it's only SIM unlocked. This means you can use it with any carrier that supports the technology. If you purchased the device new you'll need to run Olipro's unlocker to CID unlock it. CID unlocking the phone allows you to flash any ROM to the device without a problem. I think you should reflash with a factory ROM to get your phone up and running and take this weekend to do some thorough reading. I don't want to see your next post being that you bricked the device and the only thing you see is a red LED. Get your phone back up and running, take the weekend to educate yourself further so you can regroup and tackle this with a new perspective.
I have it up and running at the factory ROM level from HTC.....
I got the Dual Black to load. It appears to be working. Thanks for your patience. NO BRICK YET. lol.
I tried to use the add ons but I don't know what to do to install the .cab files.

You're welcome ! Glad to count you as a follow Black Dual by PK ROM *power*-user.
There are two bars on each side of the "taskbar" (the bar that has the "Start" button).
The top one shows the battery charge status. It is the program "dcibattery", which a link in the \Windows\Startup launches everytime you start your Athena (soft reset).
The bottom one shows the RAM status, available for the running programs. It is also launched at startup using the link "qwertymemory" in the \Windows\Startup directory.

Interesting... I was looking at this keyboard on the IGO webset prior to purchase, and it was unclear to me whether it was supported by WM6.
Please can you confirm that you've used this successfully with an Orbit2 / Touch Cruise. Thanks in advance,
Roy.
I think it doesn't really matter wat OS your are using as long as you have bluetooth it should work fine, but I'm not sure.
I can confirm it works with WM6 on my Touch Cruise.
Hi,
I am using a Targus Thumbpad (ACB31FR)
I don't know about the driver because i have not installed it yet.
The keyboard works with the "native" support of the Cruise, without the é, è, û etc ... but it works like a charm. only ~55€ on the internet.

The freedom input looks good but the igo is of a similar size stored away but turns into a large keyboard...... I would prefer it to be a full sized keyboard. I would then use it with my laptop as well.....

Yes, iGO is really amazing. I had one. Unfortunatelly there are several situation when freedom slim keyboard could be much more usable. I bet on both
to all of you who have an igo bluetooth keyboard working with the touch cruise:
i bought one yesterday, it came today and i was eagerly unpacking and installing it when... it didn't work!
i installed the drivers, reset the device and wanted to pair the keyboard with the pda, but didn't get the keyboard to turn "detectable".
i pressed the "ctrl"+"rfn"+"lfn"-combo - but without result.
the green led indicating that the keyboard is in detectable state flashed once, i entered a pin for save connection, and that was it.
the keyboard did not connect with my pda and does not react to the 3-key-combo any more.
do you have any idea what could be wrong?
i'd greatly appreciate your help, because otherwise i'd have to send the keyboard back - which i don't really want to do.
thanks in advance!
www.mymemory.co.uk are doing the iGo stowaway's for £20 delivered! I just ordered two!

I'm not sure, since i sold mine, but try to check the advance options at the keyboards software...
which driver for iGO ultra-slim BT stowaway?
What driver are people using for the iGO Stowaway Ultra-Slim BT Keyboard? If you look at their wesbite, the Polaris is not supported:
http://www.mobilityelectronics.com/support/Drivers.asp?ManufacturerID=13
I managed to get my keyboard going without a driver, its nice, but very few of the dedicated Fn keys work (or work correctly) and I don't see the keyboard icon on my TC screen in order to start 'training' the keyboard. I guess because I have no specific driver installed?
So which was is best?
Thanks
I use the drivers of the attachement. They´re for wm5, but works fine with my cruise.

2. cab also installed the mouse driver. I don't have one. (Any good?). Don't worry about it, or can I uninstall mouse part only?
Thx
iGo Keyboard Driver hangs Camera Album application
I have an Xda Orbit2 (aka HTC Touch Cruise aka Polaris) running WM6.
I can confirm that the iGo Stowaway Ultra-Slim Bluetooth Keyboard does work with it but there is a problem. Whenever the iGo driver is installed, if I try to open the Camera Album application it just hangs. If I uninstall the driver, it works fine again; reinstall it and the problem returns.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for a solution?
Thanks in anticipation.
Apple wireless keyboard for me...
I had an Apple Wireless keyboard.. and after reading about pairing it with a ppc here: http://www.fortrel.net/blog/index.p...ows_m&page=1&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1&disp=single
I said why not give it a shot... and it works flawlessly.. super, as you may know the Apple wireless keyboard is not foldable, but its slim and light and shorter than a full keyboard. Very convenient to type long word documents. Worth buying it, looks super cool too.

WM_6.5 for Hermes 8525

This is my first cooked ROM, a challenge I took up from 'Josh' and a regular customer for whom I flash....

Everything works smoothly with the OS. However 3G DID NOT WORK before or after the upgrade on the device we tested (a radio issue??)
....if anyone has it working, plz let me know which radio you have.
Applications such as TouchFlo, etc., are installed by using the Device Updater. I like this feature the most, as it leaves the ROM itself 'lite'.
Applications outside of the Device Updater repository I recommend:
HardSPL_v7
IMGChangeFont
SIPConfig Tool
CommManager3G
Touch Cube
Directly download the blue ones, others will be attached below.
THIS IS A BETA ROM - PLEASE POST ANY ISSUES..... I WON'T BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGES OF ANY KIND.... AND PLEASE USE HardSPL v7 TO AVOID BRICKING
and TO FIX BAD BLOCKS !!!
HERE'S MY ROM (updated link)
Thanks to everyone who made this possible and especially to 'Josh' for his kitchen.
Sweet, another chef in the kitchen...
Will try out soon..
Just one thing though, you will probably find this post moved to the WM06 thread as that is where all new roms are found.
Cheers...
WOW Congrats on the new rom sir!!
I get following on download link
This file is neither allocated to a Premium Account, or a Collector's Account, and can therefore only be downloaded 10 times.
This limit is reached.
To download this file, the uploader either needs to transfer this file into his/her Collector's Account, or upload the file again. The file can later be moved to a Collector's Account. The uploader just needs to click the delete link of the file to get further information.
i've a problem........it's all ok but camera doesn't work!!
camera
The camera worked on our test device, the 8525. Is that what you installed it on??
Please give more details. Can you bring up the application? Have you tried taking a photo by pressing the center joystick?
The regular customer I have also had trouble operating the camera until I showed him he could snap pictures by pressing the joystick.
I can only tell you what worked for us.
PLEASE NOTE, YOU NEED A NEW PHONE SKIN FOR VIDEO CALLS. You could try this one. Let me know if it works.

This is great! Today i installed wm 6.5 on my SPV M3100 and everything works OK. Right now I am using device update to install more applications. This is cool stuff..
Thanx for your coocking...
Great Rom.
Works great but having turned off and then had dinner went to turn phone on and the htc screen hangs.

If your screen hangs you may have bad blocks on the drive. Try upgrading to HardSPL v7 to fix them, if you haven't done so already...
I bought my TyTn more than 1y ago second hand and i've been running Schaps Theme 2.54 ever since without even knowing it and I am trying your ROM as the first upgrade ever done by my hands. so far so good, everything went smoothly and I must say it's an excellent piece of work and that i'm absolutely loving the WinMo Black theme.
However, i have some comments/questions:
1 - after boot, upon getting to the PIN-dialing screen i just get the top bar and no keyboard nor buttons image, i have to type my SIM PIN by guessing the numbers' spots on the screen. is this normal, and if not how can i circumvent it?
2 - configuring the Today screen Titanium item - is there any possibility to remove some items and/or reduce the font size, or will it be necessary to take it to the kitchen?
Once again, thank you very much for this piece of work
update: after further insight, i found there's no Office or PDF reading support, correct? i'm asuming i'll have to downgrade to a 6.0 ou 6.1 ROM, correct? also, how do i get rid of the damn startup splash screen? currently it runs the carrier's logo, but i just want it to never show again
Hey...
Use IMGChangeFont for changing the font and size.
There are tutorials somewhere in one of the forums for writing config files for Titanium. I haven't messed with it much... you are pretty much on your own if you want to remove items, but it CAN be done.
You can download Office here if you can't find it under Device Update.
Regarding the SIM PIN keyboard, I don't know what to say, except to try using the sliding keypad or do a hard reset, then try again.
The splashscreens are called welcomehead.96.png and can be swapped out by renaming them .. is Windows Mobile 6.5 the screen you are referring to?
well now that i've placed a picture on the background it does look nicer. i actually just wanted to remove some of the features which i do not use, but it's ok anyways.
got the office download, will install asap..thanks for the link.
regarding the splash screen... before the Windows Mobile 6.5 shows up i get a Vodafone image. it was there even before i flashed my TyTn with this ROM and i'd very much like to remove it permanentely.
thanks for all the help.
ok...look at this post if you want to try changing your vodafone screen
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_BootloaderMFG
interesting tho, I upgraded my friends vodaphone Asus p525 and afterwards the screen was gone. i didn't do anything but run the ruu. needless to say, he was happy that he didn't have to look at it anymore.
good luck
ok, i'll try and see if the Vodafone thing becomes history but for not now i got these here doubts:
- is it possible, and if so how can i configure the VJCandeaLite to turn on and off with a press of button and not be dependant of keeping the assigned button pushed?
- there's some stuff I personally don't need, nameley Live Search, MSN Money and Windows Live. since i have no use for these i would like them removed cause i'm picky with this stuff. does it imply just a registry tweak or taking the cabinets to the kitchen?
and one n00b question:
- how do i install the Office suite? and also the two programs you deemed necessary - CommManager3G and Touch Cube - what use do they have actually?

[Q] Bluetooth Keyboard pairing failure?

I have a Apple Bluetooth keyboard, so I tried to connect it to my Transformer prime. It asks for me to enter a pin, I enter it, and it says connected, but when I go to the web browser/polaris office (or even while doing a search from the launcher), it doesn't type anything. I even messed with all the lang/input settings to see if that was the problem (changed default keyboard to android & Asus and that didnt work either.)
-I had a Galaxy tab 10.1 (running honeycomb 3.2) before my Prime, and it connected to my keyboard perfectly..It connects to my Macbook Pro and my HTC Sensation [running ICS] with no problems, so its definitely not my keyboard that's defective.
-And my bluetooth does work, because I tried to connect my BT mouse, and it worked fine. Just not the keyboard.
-I know most of you have the dock, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had problems getting BT keyboard to connect.
Thanks!
I also had a bluetooth keyboard... i did pair, however it never typed... asus didnt fix it in any updates and i ended up buying the dock... not much of a solution
The Apple bluetooth keyboard did the same exact thing to me. Paired nicely, but that's about it.
I bought a HP Touchpad bluetooth keyboard, and it works like a charm. Every single key types just fine. You miss out on the shortcut keys of the dock, but the keys are bigger on the bluetooth, so there are some advantages.
I can use both the apple blutooth keyboard and mouse on my galaxy nexus so it has nothing to do with them not working on "android" but rather not working on whatever drivers / kernel is used with the TFPrime... I wonder if having the ability to install AOSP roms and Kernels when they unlock the bootloader will remedy this situation... so far none of the software mentioned in any thread has assisted me in getting them to work. both pair perfectly fine with the tablet but when it comes to actual use neither the mouse or keyboard input anything.. i really need this to work while i wait for my dock to ship.. and yes it has to be apple keyboard and mouse because that is what i have laying around and dont want to buy new hardware.

If your prime is rooted, just go to android dev. Section and ask Creator of updated drivers thread if apple BT keyboard drivers can be added to his list. I think his name is SaturnDe or something. He asks in his thread if you have any requests to let him know and provide info on device you want supported. Worth a shot. If he does, then you add it to your prime n it should work fine.
Actually this the thread I talking about here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455382

I had the same thing happen after the ICS upgrade. This worked for me before the upgrade. I don't know what that means as I haven't had a chance to dig into it.
Solution
Just giving you guys an update, if you go to the market and download bluekeyboard JP, the apple bluetooth keyboard works great. Just the shortcuts on the F1-F12 keys don't all work. But it does type, although it's supported by ads. Connects fairly effortlessly after the first time. There is a pro version for $2.00

not for me...
Hello guys, I'm a Xperia Mini user with ICS but I have the same issue: a bluetooth mouse what works, and a bluetooth keyboard (an clone of apple keyboard) what connects but don't writes.
As said by the guys, theres the BlueKeyboard JP what I'm uploading for who can't get from market, is extracted of my phone but is the same at market. And Another app that works is the BlueInput.
In face this behavior, and getting success with the apps, well, ICS have support for hidd and in system have the correct keymap... but the OS just don't redirects the keyevents... not sure if a custom kernel capable of redirect the events is an solution... maybe a mod...

Question Normal network calls on 4G version?

Hello all,
Its been ages since Ive been around here, lots changed. Used to mess with roms for the HTC Tytn.
Sorry to probably bother with a dumb question, just have lots going on an looking for a straight answer.
I'm on AT&T, and thinking I need to come up with a better phone than the free one they sent out. I have an old Galaxy Mega 2 now, and like the big screen. Its 4G, but AT&T is saying the IMEI shows it as 3G, but to the point, I like big phones.
I keep reading I can make normal network calls from the A7 lite, then the At&T site says differently, and then someone else said differently.
Do the international versions have a dialer and stuff? Text messaging? I see a dialer in some videos. I just want one device, not paired with another phone, etc.
Anyhow again, sorry to bother you guys. I'm sure I'm probably overlooking something somewhere, just need a little help if possible. This probably gets asked about every 4G tablet/phablet.
Thank you.

The dialer that it has does need to be paired with another Samsung device in general. I think it has the capability for network use but not for calling. The Verizon version can use Verizon Messages to control SMS and Dialing direct from the tablet but you need to at least have a phone that is on the network so should work the same way with AT&T I think.
As with most tablets, you cannot make calls on it but you can access the cell network via a sim card (so long as you have the right A7 Lite model).
There are apps that will allow you to "make calls", google duo is one that comes to mind but it will not dial the phone number, as for text messaging, I do believe that you can access this as long as you have a sim card that allows you to reach the carrier.

OMG!!!!!! Dude I've been looking for this for days. You're making calls through the sim card inserted in the tablet, right? so you haven't made the "Call & text on other devices" settings. You haven't paired with another phone to make a call.
If that's true, I want you to help us. Can you share with us the copies of the gprs&gsm applications embedded in the system? Thus, without rooting or changing csc, we can add phone call function over sim card.
If you want to help, install this free app from the play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ext.ui
Open the app. Allow storage. Find apps with the following paths in the list and click on them. The apk files of the apps you click on will be copied to your phone memory. Move them to a folder. You can compress it with 7zip or WinRar. Then upload it somewhere, like Google drive. Share the link here. If you do this, you will help us solve an important deficiency of the Tab A7 Lite LTE models.

Dude that's great. We're excited about your feedback. To solve this problem we need applications that are embedded in its tablet. In a very practical way, I just want you to take the copied versions of the applications like the one I described out of your tablet and share them here. Enjoy and please have me updated if you succeed whatever you're trying.
The only version that can make native call (LTE) is SM-T225, and also include call & text on other device function
downside is this model only come with 32GB, 3GB
non LTE model is 64GB, 4GB

Sorry, not sure I understood you clearly.
You cross-flashed to one of the T225 versions posted here (yeh, I'll check at samfirm or use frija to ensure I don't bork with a lower version)?
Which one, EU? But aren't those just small upgrades only \ base stock needed?
And you are on T-Mobile US (or similar) still- & haven't suffered any bands \ apn \ coverage issues \ didn't need to fix anything?
¿Didn't need to root?
I assume not possible to just install or adb copy over those zipped telephony files & even if wouldn't work?
Sorry if that sounded dumb- it's been a decade since last flash.
Latest patched Odin is v3.14. 1x right?
Would appreciate anyone else's thoughts- I think samone5 not coming back.

I don't use this forum often. I'm sorry I answered late. My device is rooted. This process cannot be done without root. Because you'll see these errors. Pit mode error and uparam error. I did things after root. I got the apn settings from my service provider for the network settings. Because it didn't automatically recognize it. The only problem I had was the imei number was deleted. However, I had taken a backup and restored it. Other than that, I didn't have a problem. You say you did a software installation a long time ago. I think you should stay away from this issue. You can fall into soft brick mode. You have to be careful.
Edit: Question below

2) Can you also let me know if your tablet supports carrier aggregation ?
In other words when using a sim card in the tablet do you see the "4G+" icon or "LTE+" icon ?
Or do you see a "4G" or "LTE" icon ?
You can also check this by dialling *#0011# in the phone dialler app and it should show details about carrier aggregation. If you could post a screenshot of the information on this screen it would much appreciated.
Thank you
