Movies, Live TV and Shows on your Nexus Player - Nexus Player Themes and Apps

Hello guys its been only a week i've had the nexus player and im really enjoying it, i currently have the stock rom and my device is unlocked and rooted.
I have live TV 100+ channels via the app Mobdro http://www.mobdro.com/ which has to be side loaded.
For Movies and live TV i use Kodi and Popcorn time http://popcorn-time.se/popcorntime.apk both which have to me sideloaded.
This is not a complete guide but The Steps i followed to set up my Device.
First i bought this otg hub which has 2 usb and ethernet http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J2N0GB4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Second i bought this keyboard/mousepad http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B9996LA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Third was Rooting and i used this guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EWKbzqltGk&list=PLq4EPW92B28fazduXRYawJZ0yA89W-Bxa&index=2
Fourth was sideloading apps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N03TYKcg8ro&list=PLq4EPW92B28fazduXRYawJZ0yA89W-Bxa&index=3
Fith step for me was to be able to install any app but directly from the playstore which this guide showed me how https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymjySfRFFHI&list=PLq4EPW92B28fazduXRYawJZ0yA89W-Bxa&index=6
i hope this post is helpful for everybody.

How does the TV app deliver shows? I heard that popcorntime works via torrent which can get some into trouble with comcast. Curious if mob works differently.

I have comcast and i have been streaming from popcorn time and xbmc for a while with no problems. With mobdro you should have no problem it is not torrent based it is a "mirror" more than anything, it takes the live streams from different pages arpund the web and redirects it to a single simple to use app... They have many channels, discovery, science channel , history, espn, nba, fox, abc, cbs, thecw, and many more

Is there an easy way to find the US based channels/streams and is there a favorites list or anything to keep it easy? I'll probably just install it and find out, but others may be interested too.

yes most of the channels are from U.S and can be separated by preset categories like news, sports, shows. and yes you can have all your favorites saved and they come up as soon as you open the app

Just installed it and fiddled with it for a bit and it seems to be amazing... I tried to go Premium but it said "Coming Soon"...
I have no issues paying to remove ads.

Is there a similar app to popcorntime that doesn't use torrents?

We are in the same boat! As soon as they update to allow us to go premium i will! Its totally worth it. And if the increased funds make the streams more reliable then even better... Im hoping they bring back truTV, its one of the only channels i watch

Hey in addition to showbox there are two other apps i have not tested in the NP but might work, one is Tv portal http://getandroidapp.org/applications/entertainment/1456-tv-portal-stream-tv-movies-1-1-12.html and the other one is Movie tube https://www.movietube.co/download/

I was having problems running showbox on my nPlayer. It would load everything but wouldn't play anything. Even with native player unchecked.
Maybe a future update will fix it.
I mostly use PlexBMC lately anyway as the plex Pass app for nPlayer is giving everyone, myself included, problems playing 1080 files.

hey i also had problems with showbox the first time i installed it. if you start fresh on your NP and try a couple different apks and in versions you might get it to work, i have not found the latest update online but the app updates by itself. and also it does have it hiccups from time to time so maybe you tried it when it was down? just keep trying, i do know that it took me like 4 different apks to get it working

I'm using showbox and it works fine.
I downloaded it from here:
http://www.coolvideoapp.com/
I'm running v. 3.84
I'm also using the 2 version of popcorn time
http://popcorn-time.se/
https://popcorntime.io
All these apps need a mouse control to move into the menu/movie list.
I hope that in the future the developers will upgrade the apps to work just with the Nexus Player remote..

What's the legality of showbox for a US user? Is it storing and seeding a torrent from my IP address or am I accessing a stream?
I've never been personally dinged by comcast, but I have a friend that was recently and it isn't fun (probably going to have to settle for $3k after lots of precourt crap).
Thanks for any info provided!

I dont really know but i think legally it is the same as any other app/website or program to watch free pirated movies... and im not sure about showbox but i beleive it is acessing a stream if not then it is a torrent but it is treaming the torrent storing it in ram and then deleting it, you dont keep it, you dont seed it same goes for popcorntime.

the solution is to buy this

Showbox is streaming, no seeding at all as it isn't a torrent. It is illegal, however but Comcast won't be sending you any threatening letters for it.

Do I need to be rooted to use this keyboard/mouse pad??
I've got everything working perfectly on my nplayer including all the apps I could ever need but only use kodi with plexbmc and either ororo.TV or genesis or sportsdevil. Also the Showbox add-on for kodi works better for me than the android apk.

No! Not at all, the otg and the keyboard are plug and play

Does
Does the device needs to be rooted for popcorn and the rest?
Can't you just sideload it as in any Android Device?
Thanks!

[Q] Xfinity

I may be in the minority here. But on my laptop I use Xfinity, quite often. When I pull up http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/ on my tab and then attempt to watch an HD video it tells me I need Microsoft Silverlight.
I have tried all browsers available to no avail. Any information would be helpful.
There's no silverlight for android.
The Mono team (the guys who make silverlight work on linux) supposedly had a Honeycomb beta of Moonlight running back in April, but I haven't heard a word since then.
The big problem has and will always be that Microsoft refuses to give any pointers about how it works, so it's all reverse engineering and hacky at that.

[DISCUSSION] webOS APPS

Ive been android guy forever...but after playign with webos i actually like it. I would actually support an android player like on the blackberry tablet...what do you think?
Hi im trying to search all the apps but i only have the free ones and only like 500 apps in the store i dont know its because i live in Puerto Rico. any ideas how i can get all the apps thanx
[DISCUSSION] WebOS APPS
Amazon Cloud Player tip
Other than the music stopping when the screen turns off....amazons cloud player is perfectly compatible.
Load the web player website in landscape mode. After it loads...put it in portrait mode and you should be able to scroll through your lists.
this clearly has to do with the cloud player detecting the screen resolution...but without an app or SD card...I have to rely on the cloud player for music....would suck if it didnt work

wipe your tablet and tell it you live in USA during setup and the whole market will be available. Search the forum, this was already covered.
During that setup i did tell it English, USA but the it recognized I was from Puerto Rico and didn't give me much of an option.

Here's what I think might work,
Connect a laptop to ethernet on your home internet connection then use VPN to connect to a vpn server in the lower (upper?) 48. Then set up your laptop to share internet over wifi (hotspot). Connect your touchpad to it then start over with registration etc.
How does a cool, refreshing, and free 6-Pack sound?
If you have an HP TouchPad, get ready to spend some quality time in the HP App Catalog. We’ve selected six apps that normally sell for as much as $14.99 and we’re making them available at no cost to HP webOS customers for a limited time. (See free offer details below.)

Try the VPN approach, it's gonna work. Or maybe you can try with Impostah, which you can download it from Preware.

Any luck with the Apps? I'm from PR but I have yet to open my TouchPad since a friend bought it for me. Its weird because I had full access to the Apps when I had my Palm Pre. I wonder if the information sticks from my old Pre to the new TouchPad if not I'm planing on registering it using my Sprint phone as a hotspot to be on the safeside.

Static libraries could be imported without changes most likely, but Java is not officially supported in webos (it uses javascript based on nodejs I believe), so you would have to do a complete program/ui rewrite other than perhaps any c/c++ compiled libraries included (but the different libc version may require those to be recompiled).

Any Hack For Region Protected Apps?

To make a long story brief, does anyone know of a hack that would fool a region protected app?
I downloaded the APK for the BBC I Player from mediafire and I opened it via Astro whilst connected to my UK proxy and also used a location spoofer app. When I tried to play content a message pops up saying it's only available in the UK. I then tried using my VPN account and got the same result.
Does anyone know of any way to make that app think i'm in the UK or is it impossible?
I did search XDA and as far as I can see is still an unresolved issue.

OP, try tvcatchup using your Flash enable browser.

Firstly, thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
Although it was a great idea (and one I hadn't thought of) it didn't work because it gave a message saying my i.p. was not compatible with the service. I suspect that's because I'm probably number 10,000 to sign up and use that i.p. and it was therefore blocked long ago. It did play the ads so in theory you're right, it would definitely have worked, so for anyone else reading this who has access to a 'clean' proxy, try it.
It wasn't a massive issue for me because I can get I Player via my browser using the proxy but it is a bit of a pain navigating it, as opposed to the clean interface of the player itself but it's better than nothing.
Also to anyone else reading this, I do get ITV Player and 4 On Demand via my proxy and I can get all the sport on 5Live, Sports Extra and Talksport, so it's only the stand alone players themselves that can't be broken.
Thanks again for the help and whilst i'm here, do you know of any other UK tv catchup services besides the one you gave me?
* UPDATE *
whatsontv.co.uk works like a charm through the proxy, the only downside being there's no live feeds but it is worth having.
Also, Blinkbox works with a proxy. Plenty of good free series but no live feeds.
123webtvdotcom is also a good service that works with a proxy and it simply gives you a grid of live tv programs that it then forwards you too.
All in all, three good finds thanks to the posters suggestion, so thanks.

[Q] What are some "cool" things to do with the Tab?

I expect to get my Tab this week. Almost a year ago I remember a buddy of mine in Charleston with his iPad using it as a way of selecting method to play on his stereo. He was using the air sync (believe that is what they call it)... so it was really nice not having it wired or using an aux-input.
Is there an equivalent for the Tab? Are you guys just using Voodoo Sound and an aux-input? Would love to be wireless.
EDIT, looks like Sonos has a product called the "Connect" that I could add to my existing stereo.. they also have an android app to control it. Problem is, $350. Hell no. Others?
----
Using it as a remote for your TV?
---
Can it serve as a BT keyboard/mouse for the PS3? or PC?
---
What are you doing that is "cool" or really helpful....
160+ views and nobody could think of something "cool" to do with the Tab? That is not encouraging. I do not want this thing for just checking twitter folks. What can it do?
Angry birds.
Seriously, I use it for all sorts of stuff.
Ipod with built in speakers - I carry it around a listen to music when working around the house.
Digital picture frame - I prop it up on a shelf when we have company over with a bunch of pictures of my kids loaded on it.
TV Remote - I have Comcast, they have an app that lets me use it to choose what I want to watch (no volume control or anything, though).
Movie player - when I travel, makes a long plane ride go fast.
Guitar tuner
Level for hanging photos.
Scientific calculator.
E-mail, facebook, YouTube, internet, etc.
Fun games to kill time.
Read books/magazines.
Browse through the Android Market. There is an app for just about everything.
use of my tab
I use my tab more for remote work.
Besides email I use to connect my remote computer for many things are complex to do with a tab, but sorry, including print, but in general again for work.
If you have a Samsung TV, u can use the app Samsung Remote to control your tv
i use jefit and track my workouts - though you can use just about any of the workout apps. also use pandora while i'm working out.
and i watch netflix while running on the treadmill. helps me not think of my legs burning.
and comic and book reading.
My galaxy tab
I suppose you are speaking of the 10.1 version? Oh nevermind, it doesn't really matter actually.
I use mine for;
University stuff e.g. slide shows from the teachers, reading Google docs we made in groupwork even though it's not so good at live updating Google Docs yet as if your on a laptor writing in Chrome.
Reading e-books, which is really nice if the uploader of the .pdf file has done a good job!
Playing games
Reading news
Browsing the internet (it's nice on the Tab since it's much lighter than a laptop, has longer battery life and a bigger screen than the smartphone)
Mails
Picture-presenter - e.g. I use it to show people pictures from my Picasa web-albums. I only costs like 5$ for a years storage of 20gb, so pretty cheap and now I have all of my photos and videos online on Picasa.
Listen to music - via Spotify
I think that's primarily what I use my Tab for
Btw, I also bought a converter to HDMI, but I'm not quite satisfied with it. It only supports HDMI while the charger is plugged in, no matter how many percentage of power you have on your tablet, and the screen also flickers on the TV. I know this is a software problem though, so with ICS I expect it to work better.
80% flash
20% modding and hacking the tab(adhoc, remote, livewallpaper, bootloader animations, themes, ROMs, wii/ps3 controllers, etc)
As soon as you get it don't bother rooting, just flash cwm and the install Task's latest rom. Then you will have root, pershoot's kernal, (the best ) and the smoothest running tab you can get, then you can think of what else you want on it

In my hamac, I am answering your question!
I use the tablet for a lot of things! Reading ebook, playing game, internet, GPS, emails...
Also read pdf documents, translate. Google...
Here, I have EDGE only, but at home with 3G/H or wifi, Skype is marvellous.
But also listen music and I love music.google (you can upload up to 20 000 songs, then you can listen them all over the word).
I'm disapointing with HD movies, I've tried a 720, !... But classic divX are OK.
The size and weight make it that I can carry my tablet everywhere and do everything I want!
By the way, since I have it, I drastically optimize the battery life of my phone (SGS2)!

I took mine backpacking. I never thought I'd be that kind of backpacker...
But with the tablet, I didn't need maps, I didn't need a gps. I didn't need books. I didn't need to bring crossword puzzles to work on in the tent... So it did save almost as much weight as it cost. And then again, when the mosquitos came out at sundown, we watched movies.
That was inconceivable to me five years ago. Now I don't go without my tab.

CW Network app?

Hi everyone. CW Network recently released a new VOD app for Apple TV, Roku, and Xbox, and Fire TV... but not Android TV. Someone on Reddit was kind enough to rip the Fire TV apk and post it for people to try, but there are a couple of issues. One is the Amazon ownership check (which doesn't seem to allow it to run even if you have the CW app on Amazon's app store), and the other is a strange error message about network connectivity. Could anybody take a look at it and see if it can be hacked to work on the Shield?
Reddit thread:

APK download:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/gkokbqq27s4vaxv/The_CW_com.cw.tv.android_1.0.0_106.apk
..
The guy who ripped it says that the leanback intent was already in place.

I'll pull out my old Fire TV stick from storage and pull the apk this evening.
Edit:
Decided to try right away. The CW app was added to my amazon account and installed on my Fire Stick directly from Amazon. It still gave the connection error. There must be an issue with the app if the app is still giving a connection error on a Android device it was designed to be used on. I'm assuming CW will released an update to fix the problem soon enough. When they do, I can remove the amazon checks.

Weird, it works perfect on my Fire TV and Stick downloaded directly from Amazon. It doesn't work on any Android TV device though. I don't know how to crack the app. Someone needs to crack the app and see if he can get it working.

Would you be able to remove the checks on the PlayStation Vue Firetv app as well? I would love to be able to use it on my Shield.

Thanks!

Thanks for putting all this effort in. I'm away from home (and my Shield) this week, but I will try it when I get back.
Finally had the opportunity to try it. It no longer throws the ownership error, but still throws the connection error.
..
Cool. I'll keep an eye out for that, and I'll reply if I find anything regarding a new APK. Thanks!

Anything new happening on this front?
There are two network connections made at the initialization of the app. They are both going to Amazon WS. Both appear to have issues, probably because the User-Agent isn't a Fire TV UA, and the request that gets the license reports "android" from the Shield whereas the Fire version reports "amazonfire" on the posted data. Because of the differences, the license returns "invalid" on the JSON response.
If the responses that come back from the Fire stick were to come back to Shield, the app would function perfectly. I had changed the two URLs to my local webserver to return the good responses, and I could browse and watch episodes without issue. Beautiful picture.
With that, the app is very specifically blocking Android TV devices.
EDIT: Correction, the User-Agent is not used. It is just the "amazonfire", which is based on one piece of code. A small modification gets this working without needing to host the two response files.
Attached is an apk to try out.
** Edit: current version doesn't work anymore. Removing ***
That's awesome. I'll try this when I get home from work today. Would it be difficult to do this to the USA and Cartoon Network apps as well?
Seems to work awesome. I was able to watch an episode of the flash without issue
I took a look at USA Network and the Cartoon Network apps. The Amazon app for USA Network is a webapp, so it is unlikely to work without bigger modifications. Cartoon Network appears to have a few issues (title bar displays all the time, no leanback launcher banner icon, Amazon hooks). I'll take a look, but at least they have added casting support to the Cartoon Network Android app for now.
Thanks for posting The CW App, while the Content seems sparse, and not really my thing (DC Comic Universe), it does at least work, and thats something.
