Stock rom - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Goodmorning everybody,
I'm afraid i need some help with this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/fix-s3-to-factory-unroot-stock-recovery-t2323847) guide i'm trying to follow.
Except nobody is answering on my reply so that's the reason why i'm opening a new thread. forgive me if this is not the right section.
I'm pretty noob in all this so i will try to explain my situation as good as possible so that you can help me in the best ways you can and want to do.
The beginning
about a half year ago i thaught it was cool to have a custom rom on my galaxy s3 GT-I9300.
I did this with the help of a friend.
I first adjusted the recovery to clockwork and installed cyanogenmod.
The exact details of my phone at this moment are:
modelnumber GT-I9300
Cyanogenmod-version
11-20140708-Snapshot-M8-I9300
Android version 4.4.4
Smalbandversion I9300XXUGNA8
Kernel version 3.0.64-CM-g5e96596
CPU ARMv7 processor rev 0 (v7I)
Build number CM_i9300-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84Pd9438c2c60 test-keys
I've got a new phone and want to give this phone to my sister or sell it.
I don't need it back to stock for warranty.
I just want to hand over a clean and simple phone.
The problems i'm running in to are...
I did download and install triangle and i tried to reset binary counter.
The counter stays at 1 and the kernel stays at custom. the last visable option says official after triangle.
I also did flash the original recovery with Odin, (jaj this worked) because i can start up in the original recovery mode and not in CWM.
Before i do a full wipe i want to know what the problem will be when i install stock firmware with a binary counter on 1.
And this leads me to my second more important problem.
I can't find which stock firmware i need.
When i try to dial the codes to look up which one you need. I get a error message that it isn't possible to view this information.
I personally think i need: Galaxy S 3 (International) GT-I9300 PRO I9300XXALF5 Android 4.0.4 07.06.2012 686526 Unlock
there are 2 mirrors on of which is not workiong and the other downloads at 50kb/s and stops at around 90 mb in of the 700 total file size.
Can anyone tell me which stock firmware i need and where to download it? i've searched google (ofcourse) but can't find any.
I live in belgium, this phone was bought in Belgium but i have a dutch simcard working in it from the provider youfone.
This is a sim-only provider and they use the network form a bigger company called KPN.
I really hope someone can help me with this because i'm too afraid to do something wrong and brick my phone.
Sorry for being a noob don't bash please!
Thanks in advance for all your replies!
Grtz

Just flash the latest stock firmware for your country using Odin then factory reset in recovery before booting. Download from sammobile.com
You are confusing yourself with all the other things you are trying.

Hi,
yes you can update to lite'ning rom.
But it's better to flash an original samsung rom first if you are running a branded one.
The roms are available for download (check dev threads)
You can flash back your stock rom by the same way as flashing lite'ning rom.
cheers!

For the same rom, almost same question:
I am on unbranded CSC: XENKE1 (Netherlands); (PDA:XWKE2; Phone: XXKDJ)
Can I flash latest Litening rom, based on KF1, to my phone? Will this give me a UK-CSC? Or will I keep my Dutch localization?
Sorry to thread jack this, but i didn't see the need to create a new one, i bought an unbranded sgs 2 and i have
PDA: XWKE2
PHONE: XXKDJ
CSC: OXXKE2
Seeing as the lite'ning rom is based on XWKE7 should i flash this firmware first? is this thread reliable, do these roms restore warranty ?
I am also interested i hearing about backups for warranty purposes since this is my first flash.
NVM: i just realized those roms are rooted, where can i find stock ones, does anyone have a link?

Just flashed from an unbranded i9100, Dutch edition (XEN) To Litening rom 1.4, without a problem - All apps remain, all localized settings remain; Done in a jiffy!
(btw: it was my first android-flash... w0000t! Coming from iPhone 3g, jailbroken)
(PDA: XWKE2 / PHONE: XXKDJ / CSC: XENKE2 - so almost like yours, only different localization)
Regarding your 'no-root'-question, and warranty:
-When u flash a custom rom, a counter goes up, assuring Samsung can check if u flashed custom stuff to your phone
-It does not matter whether you flash a rooted or unrooted CUSTOM rom: the counter is to check for custom flashes, not for root versus no-root
-It is uncertain but highly likely that Samsung will check the custom-rom-counter to deny warranty
-BUT: in-case-of-emergency you can reset the counter using a special USB-jig (cheap)
-BUT: there might be a 2nd counter (hypothesized, not proven as far as I know), counting the number of counter-resets using the jig (still following me?)
-The bright side: in the Netherlands/Europe the company you buy your phone from is responsible for the warranty, not Samsung; Customer rights are pretty tightly regulated by European law, protecting customers from companies denying warranty... As long as the damage is (reasonably) not due to the flashing, you're still good for warranty over here (in THEORY - try to explain this though to some dumbass uptight salesman)
Thanks for enlightening me, but what if i don't like a feature in the rom and i want to flash back to stock, i can't find any definitive stock roms thread, other than the one i have mentioned in the post, which should be ok, since it's stock asides from the root, i'm gonna try lite'ning, have any favorite roms yourself?
I've never actually had a smartphone, i come from an iPod touch which is close enough , always bothered me that i couldnt do anything with it, i consider myself an explorer
EDIT: Just flashed lite'ning, got a little bit scared cause it took a bit to boot, but everything's fine now
Noob questions
another hijacker! but relevant i think
Ok so iv just moved from a iphone to the samsung s2 and im loving it i have had it for about a week now and a iphone just feels wrong! lol im new to flashing android phones etc but have a lot of experience in jail-breaking and from what i have read and see it seems a lot easier to root and flash android phones! bonus! i have a orange samsung galaxy s2 ;
PDA : I9100KVKE2
PHONE : I9100BVKE2
CSC : I9100ORAKE2
Build info wed 11may
i have read all the root de-branding stuff . custom roms etc and i understand it to a degree but i just want to know where do i start? should i de-brand first using the page on the developers area then root then flash a custom rom? i wanna lose all this orange crap. plus is the orange firmware/rom available to go back to if i ever need to take it back? i would appreciate someones guidance on where to start. i quite fancy the lightening rom.
Fortunately from what I've read so far, lite'ning won't "wipe" your data aka contacts, applications, etc. So all of your applications including orange applications should stay, about going back i can't help you, though i'm interested in hearing from someone who knows more about this.
You should know that just by updating to a version outside of your carrier's allow zone, you automatically lose warranty (custom or not, root or not).
Offtopic: Glad i bought mine unbranded, from i've read around the webz before making my decision, it's well worth the money not having to deal with carriers.

but if you can restore it to the orange original rom stock and use the jig to restore the counters. if there isnt a hidden counter they wouldnt know,
Thanks all for the response. No issues in hijacking, i was going to ask those questions anyways
I have a rom that is specific for India (localization, etc), so when I into the Android Market I can see the price of the apps in the local currency. I havent bought one right now so dont know how the payments work.
Secondly, the warranty - thats a problem. If I flash it and have to take it back to Samsung for any reason I am stuck, especially when you know you might have a hidden counter.
So as much as I would like to go with Litenin ROM, losing warranty for me right now (since the phone is just couple of days old) doesn't make sense. I will rather wait for some more time till all info about GS2 is available before taking the risk.

[Q] International S3 to Orange Branded S3

Excuse my ignorance on this however I have tried researching the questions I wish to ask and haven't got any further clarification.
I'm currently sporting a GT-I9300 (from Phones4U)on I9300XXLH1 (using the orange network) however the "wifes" puppy decided that he would take 'said' phone for a walk and smashed the screen (not the digitiser).
I have Insurance through Orange care who have agreed to honour the agreement and send me another S3 out today , I can only assume that this will be a branded S3.
I've downloaded Odin 3.04 and have obtained Modem_CWM_I9300XXLH1 file and Im awaiting delivery, however I now have a query which I'm hoping XDA can help me with.
1) Is this the right file to flash to get the operating system back to the international one and will it work?
2) Is there a hardware difference between the International/Unbranded Phones4u S3 and the Orange S3?
3) After I have flashed this ROM, can I use Kies to update the phone normally when Jellybean arrives?
I'm also using quicktap sim which was a pain in the butt to set up so this needs to be taken in to consideration when flashing the phone.
I have attached the ROM I've downloaded just for clarification
Any help, advice, guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
According your location, sorry for my bad skills in english :'/
So, I will try to help you.
1) No, it's not the right file. You need the full firmware containing apps/modem/csc_informations ...
For United Kingdom, the last one "by Samsung (not Jb leak)" is : PDA I9300XXBLG8 and CSC I9300OXABLG8 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
This file is about 750MB and is available on "sammobile(dot)com" > Firmware and files (I don't know if I can put link to another website here).
2) There are no difference between the Unbranded and Branded phone. Only firmware modification in the branded one and perhaps software Sim-lock by Orange.
3) If you don't "root" your phone with (CF-Root-v6.4 - thanks Chainfire), I think we can receive update from Kies. But if it's no possible, you can download Jelly Bean from the Internet and flash your phone using Odin of course.
Thanks
Thankyou for the response,
would you happen to have a link or the file that I require for the flash , I did a bit of searching last night and the one I got was the the one shown , however if you have links or know a better one I'd appreciate the information.
Thanks again

Here, we will find tutorial about "Flashing new firmware on Samsung Galaxy S3" and others not necessary for the moment (don't root your phone if you don't know what is it) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
For the last firmware : http://samsung-updates.com/fw/Samsung-Updates.com-GT-I9300_BTU_1_20120806161432_al03it6wa2.zip
And if you don't have ODIN 3.04 : https://androidfirmwares.net/Tools/Download/8
Before flashing your phone, you need install the Galaxy S3 drivers (with Kies for example). Take care : when you use ODIN, Kies must not run on your computer.
cheers
thanks you I'm downloading the files now,
I assume that it I use kies already then my laptop with have my device drivers already (or do I need to re-download them)?
I know about Rooting I'm just not really wanted to do it
Many thanks for the help

If you already use Kies, no problem with the drivers. They work.

Galaxy S3 GT-I9300, back to stock - Baseband version?

Hi,
I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I ran a custom rom for a while on my Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 and now I want to restore it back to stock. According to my phone's menu, the baseband version is I9300XXUGNB1 but that version is not te be found on Sammobile firmwares. Can I safely install another rom with another baseband version? For example I9300XXUGNJ? (Netherlands). Or will I risk bricking my phone? To my knowledge the S3 I own isn't uncommon or anything. It's just a carrier- and simlock free phone which I bought at a major electronics retailer at the time.
Thanks in advance.
Hello and thank you for using Q/A,
you can flash all ROMs. But please keep in mind to backup EFS and then flash.
Kind regards
Trafalgar Square
so lets just say.. god forbid, the efs partition got facked at some point.. i may as well consider the phone bricked?
no you should be able to flash stock with odin and start all over (no root) if you didn't backup efs
not sure how its done though

How do I find a stock Rom/firmware?

Hi all, I don't know why this is so complex but my phone wont boot so cant get info off it to find out what rom is needed and I also can't find any live links for stock Roms they are all dead or behind a paywalls.
I attempted to use [ROM][UNOFFICIAL][10.0.0][r37][I9100] LineageOS 17.1 instead and it says failed during the first odin steps something about partition.
What direction should I be going and is there anything im missing? Just want a working phone stock or unofficial I don't mind.
Model: GT-I9100
SSN: I9100GSMH
United Kingdom
I think it's unbranded but unsure
Hi,
check "samsungsfour.com" I found there a lot oft Stock ROMs for Samsung phones.
I download the latest build from Poland and flashed it via Odin on my S2.
Afterwards my phone was ready for the install instructions of the thread you mentioned with flashing this pit file and the corresponding recovered.
Then I flashed the current recovery and the latest build (19th July).
Good luck!
BTW: my phone stuck in bootlop after flashing this stock ROM and I don't know why but nevertheless I could go straight with LOS17.
Edit: check this instead:
