[Q] Why is the G3 so cheap? - Verizon LG G3

Using a Droid incredible these days, and i swear i'd throw it off a cliff if i had another phone...
Looking to upgrade, and I notice that while the Note 3 and One M8, the other devices I'm cross-shopping, go on sale to <$1 and return to a higher price, the G3 is perma-stuck below $1. Is it cause no one buys it? Or major problems? cause the specs are top notch, so in theory it should cost more...
Thanks!

No idea why it's perma-discounted so low but all have their pros and cons. If you look at reviews most are happy with it. The most common complaints being the 4k screens impact on battery life (3.5-4 hours screen on time) and some ui lag in stock applications (messenger, settings, launcher). Overall I wouldn't trade it for anything else out there, but that is due to the fact that the community has bypassed the bootloader allowing for custom roms. If I had to keep the stock lg software or if I was not the type to modify my phone, my choice would probably be the M8. M8 has mediocre camera and display, but much better software optimization. Personally I won't even consider Samsung, but maybe that'll change if they ditch touchwiz like rumored.

In my opinion... LG wants more market share so they priced the phone low and made a lot of them. HTC and Samsung are bigger players in the market and LG wants to make it's mark. G3 owners are getting a good phone and a good deal. That's not to say the others aren't good as well, but for the price - the value and quality is there on the G3. No major defects, problems, or anything like that.
I guess you can always take a test drive and compare - depending on your seller's policies. For ex: I bought an S5 on Amazon and hated it sooo much, but their policy is one free exchange within a 2 week period so I grabbed a G3 instead and couldn't be happier with that choice. It may be a pain but a test drive can keep you from getting stuck with a phone you hate.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess its the usual loss leader marketing scheme, and its working pretty well. I suppose i should be glad that the M8 and the N3 have increased in price. both of those require lots of hoop-jumping to get BL-unlocks [or not in the N3's case], while its so easy with the G3.

So i just picked up my G3 from Amazon this weekend for a penny+tax, $44.01 including shipping. Already owned the G2 which was perfectly but I sat on my upgrade for about 6 months and finally took the plunge... The few sales/reps I've asked about the price being so low basically told me that the G3 hasn't been marketed very well and non power users are sucked into the Crapple/Junksung riptide. So far its great, haven't been able to root yet due to 12B stump being patched, IOroot adb issues, and towelroot not working. M8 would definitely be my second choice but camera and display quality are very important. No better time than now to before price changes @sidewinder_x5

oh believe me, it's coming soon :good: and 12B patch? cant you downgrade to 10B, root, bump, then flash a custom 12B rom? sounds easier than trying to root straight at 12B millions of ways.
Speaking of amazon, what kinda fees did you have to pay? upgrade fee, activation fee, etc.

Im about to attempt the 10B downgrade right now actually-just fired up the PC! I'm a little hesitant due to reading about bricks but I can't take not crackflashing a day longer! Haha And as far as Amazon goes it was a penny for the phone and $40.00 exactly in taxes. That's all and it was delivered in 2 days.

Its easy to do. Almost impossible to mess it up. Ive had mine since around Christmas, and i love it. then again, Im coming from an S4. LOL.

After years of using Samsung, I went from a Note 3 to a G2 which I was very happy with. I sold my G2 for $280 back in October and bought the G3 for $300 (brand new) from a local guy who went back to Iphone. G3 is my favorite phone I've had so far.

the G2/G3 are amazing phones. i looked at getting a G2 before i arrived in the US, but the price was a bit much. glad there are places where i can get the G3 for close to nothing :good:

I enjoy my g3. And with the impending official lollipop update our development will become that much more awesome.
I was hesitant to go back to flashing roms myself. But since I have no need for softcard I said f it. Best decision ever. Basically I have a 5.5'' nexus 6 with removable battery and expandable memory lol.
Who's excited for the VR for g3? Who thinks lg will be nice enough to give these out like they did the free spare battery lol

[Q] I want to sell my HD2...

Hello everyone =)
I was just looking for some input from the phone community.
I am thinking about upgrading my phone since my 2yrs is up and I figured why not sell my HD2 to pay the cost?
This is my 3rd HD2 so i cant even get a new one through Asurion smh. I have had this one for two months. I have all the accessories, box, etc. And it has no scratches, cracks, etc. It also has a custom ROM (which i'd probably revert back to TMO before selling).
How much is too much for a used phone?
I was thinking $200. Is that too much or too little?
if you have the box and all you can get 300+ online but if its just the phone you could get 250 atleast. I'm selling mine as well because i just upgraded to a G2.
How do you like the G2? I think i'll try the HD7...
I have the box, charger, headphones, paper booklets, phone glove and all.
I most likely won't sell it online though probably locally. I just want to put out a good asking price on it b/c since technology advances so fast and new phones coming out all the time its always something better.
Also, does the software make a diff. in price? Should I consider that also?
You have all the necessary belongings so it will sale for a good price. Locally would be okay but you may often deal with people trying to get it for a cheaper price. I dont know how much your looking for but i would atleast look for $250-$275. you can try Craigslist but people will try to talk you down on the price. Ill have my G2 on wed, i tried out the Hd7 and the G2 in stores and i went with the G2, the Hd7 looks real nice though but i wanted a keyboard again. Software makes somewhat of a difference, i put Android on mine and the latest rom.
OH ok...I haven't tried playing with adding android on mines yet...I'm sure I'd def. be able to get a good amount for it if that were on there...
I haven't even thought about CL. I know for sure when I get a price i'm sticking to it even though my upgrade will only cost me about $175
if your upgrade price is $175, $200-$225 should be good since your not looking for much.
True. since i invested so much in this phone (300+130+130) i'd def. like to get what its worth in general. esp since its in new condition.
Thank you much for your responses =)
your welcome. let me know how you like the HD7.
No problem sure will =)
I welcome all other opinions as well
Maybe it's just me but I think 200 USD is too low for a good and versatile phone like HD2. Yes, there will always be better phone with better technology in the future but that doesn't devalue the HD2. People seem to think their phone has less value once there're new phones in the market that they release their phone for a very cheap price in order to get "some" money for the new one. In my opinion, the HD2 will still remain the best Winmo 6.5(.x) phone of all time (because there won't be any new WinMo6.5 phones released LOL). So unless you really need money to cover for your upgrade I'd suggest you keep it...
And yes I won't sell my beloved HD2 even if one day I decide to buy another OS phone. It will be with me until it dies on me
you actually have a valid point because when something happens to my phones i hate being reduced to a loner phone smh. i had that issue when i upgraded and sold my G1 to upgrade to hd2 only to have it out of stock when i needed a replacement
Samsunguy said:
why dont we all go over and vote for the hd2 as the best phone for 2010 if it wins it will be the second year it wins. it started off in a slow start because the op added it a day after the poll began but with your help we can bring it to first.

BestBuy says "They ain't exactly flying off the shelves"

Noticing a whole stack of them in the case at a local Bestbuy, I asked 2 store managers and 2 other dept employees about the new Razr. They ALL said it was a non-event, although Motorola had invested $mils in advertising. Evidently, it was designed and put into production months ago, and nowadays that's just not quick enough for the Android market. Things simply evolve much faster than Motorola's bureaucracy can adjust.
Biggest reason customers put it back on the shelf: Soldered in, non-replaceable battery.
Reason #2 : The screen is a yawner. It's boring, old news.
Reason #3 : It's new, it's gonna have bugs, and customers simply don't have to put up with that.
#4: $299 w/contract - and you're stuck with it for 2 years.
Is this phone locked? Can it be flashed? Just curious - one of them told me it can't be rom'ed. Would Mot be that monopolistic ?
According to one of the phone-dept workers, a good chunk of sales have been returned overnight after a disappointing unboxing/testing.
Frankly, I thought the phone was a pretty solid piece of work - especially compared to the plastic Samsungs. I love it's little slots on the side for XD cards, NICE touch. But alas, the screen is, well, is just isn't. Not with the 1200x800's about to hit around Thanksgiving.
Oh well, one of them said Mot's is already planning a Razr-2 in Jan to fix all this stuff, but now they're behind the power curve. Who knows.
I think Amazon offering the phone for $111.11 or Costco including $100+ in extras is why Best Buy isn't selling many.

This.
Also the phone needs recovery at this point I believe. It can certainly be "Rom-ed" but it just can't be "Kernel'ed". That is a pretty lame deal breaker if you want a phone simply to install different kernels to boost your quadrant scores that no one cares about.
If you ask me I agree the phone is amazing, I love it. The screen is mind blowing to me, so I have no problem paying that and being in a contract for it. I guess one needs to consider all the options customers have at this point, mainly with the iphone on verizon now. Every average jo wants an iphone just cause his neighbor has one.
Anyone true tech enthusiast wouldn't buy from Best Buy LOL (I've went there with a friend that insisted I do for Black Friday). That place is terrible and is a total rip off. Geek squad and the employees (I haven't spoke to a single one that seems to know what they're doing/talking about) yeah they're something else. I highly doubt there's going to be a RAZR 2 coming out in Jan, it's probably the DROID 4, which has similar design but also has a physical keyboard. If it definitely is the the RAZR 2 this will be my last Motorola phone period. If their solution is to just make a new device like 2-3 months later, instead of supporting their most current phones, then that's a bad business model for sure.
Sure there probably will be a RAZR 2, but I personally hope not, seeing it would kinda tarnish the fact that it's a unique device/name series. But yeah with Amazon selling the device for 111.11 on 11/11 and Costco with that beast package, and a good majority of people pre ordering to get the phone early (one day w00t). It's not a surprise that Best Buy isn't pushing the phones like hotcakes. Also I would take anything that Best Buy tells you about Android rumors with a grain of salt.
I wouldn't go to best buy if they were the ONLY brick and mortar selling phones. I'd wait the 2 days for UPS.
Anyone with good common sense wouldn't go to BB for their phones even with their instant rebate deals. Their "insurance" plan is a rip off and the fact Amazon was selling it for 111.11 on the day of release (as someone said earlier) is reason enough for BB to not see this phone flying off shelves.
Add to the fact, all the advertising dollars Verizon spent, pointed to the phone being sold BY VERIZON STORES. I have a friend who works for verizon and she sold out of the RAZR within a couple hours and her store had a couple hundred of them.
SO don't go drinking Best Buy's kool aid. Especially when they know nothing of phones (let alone the products they sell as a whole)
the OP is completely full of crap... so is anyone else that says the removable battery is a "no go". did the soldered in battery hurt Iphone?
the screen on this phone is fantastic, anyone who wants to complain about it is a person that will never be happy with anything.
bugs? this is the least buggy phone that i have ever owned.
im nowhere near a moto fan boy, but these complainers need to jus STFU, the Razr is a sweet phone.......

I lol'd. BB is terrible for computers/phones etc (Newegg for life!). Anyways the fact that they're saying there's a RAZR 2 coming out in like 4 months yeahhh no. Droid 4 probably aka RAZR jr w/ a keyboard, will be nice for those that crave physical keyborads. But I doubt moto is gonna pull another "Bionic" deal with the RAZR. Replacing their flagship so soon after it comes out, I'm trying to retain faith lol.
They do have a 30 day return policy. Also the insurance gets you a new phone (but you have to wait 17 months to get it).

Imo it's all about software optimization. Hardware on these phones are ahead of the software that's out there for sure. GS2 is a beast when it first came out, and still is.

WTF? The battery is replaceable: it isn't soldered. You need to remove two screws on the battery flat cable and your battery can be removed.
Yup, not like other phones where you simply use your fingers, but that's it.

I don't think so. Motorola have learnt this from his past. Milestone was buggy.. but watch at the first ATRIX ROM: there wasn't any important bug at all. They've only enhanced its speed with the updates as personally I haven't noticed any bug.
And anyway, every first S/W version of every pda has got some bugs, that's absolutely normal, with the exception that Motorola is very fast at updates.

This device is another exception in Motorola's policies. Moto uses to sign their devices forever, but as Moto said and confirmed publicly, like happened on ATRIX for the Gingerbread update, when RAZR will get ICS, Moto will give us an unlockable bootloader, thing that is SURE for non branded devices and for branded ones (like Verizon's...) it's about the operator.

I know of some guys that have bought the RAZR, unboxed, tested for 30 minutes and then re-sold it. It was too big for their hands. I don't know other bad things as for now.
Anyway, in my opinion, you should try the device in a store prior buying it, especially if it is a big device and you've got small hands.

Mmh, I don't think so, at least for now. They've just released the RAZR.
That would cut their RAZR sales and make them lose a lot of money.
I guess everyone who did buy a RAZR, and is happy with it (myself included) should throw our device away and hang our heads in share, based on this information from the always solid reliable and correct Best Buy store employees.
Anyone know what the Costco bundle for the RAZR comes with?

Yes! Cause we all know that Best Buy store employees are always right !!!!
Since I agree with most of these Bestbuy comments, I made a trip over to the Verizon store. Hit 3 actually, one is the largest in the state. Guess what - there were dozens of new razr's in stock there too.
Not convinced, I asked around, speaking to 3-4 employees in each store. They all said the same thing the Bestbuy people did - the phone is a 7 month old semi face lift of some earlier Mot phone, and simply put nobody cares for it and nobody's impressed. Same list of complaints earlier in this thread.
"What's everybody waiting for" I asked? Everyone said the same thing: the high res screens that are about to hit. Namely the SAMSUNG Nexus is the first of a long list of new generation phones, we may see 6-7 by EOY they told me

Goodbye, Rezound!

Hey guys, so yesterday I made the switch to Sprint (it's waaay cheaper than VZW here..) and in return I got rid of my Rezound in exchange for the beautiful HTC One. I'm gonna miss all the talented developers here but I'm gonna miss Snuzzo's kernel and how helpful he is the most . It sucked selling my Rezound after having it for over a year and a half. I came from an iPhone to the Rezound, so everyone here made my first Android experience a great one. The reasoning behind it is because my Rezound's digitizer plug-in was messed up after replacing my screen twice, my front housing was peeling off from opening it, the vibrating motor was broke and the battery life was..well, we know our Rezounds and their batteries lol. I never post but I feel like I'm friends with everyone here just because this community is so nice and helpful. I'm gonna miss you all .
PS the One is amazing. I'm not as wowed as I was with my Rezound because I'm already familiar with Sense and Android, but it feels great in my hands and looks amazing.
I just bought a pair of Nexus 4s for the wife and I and switched to T-Mobile. This is definitely an awesome little dev community. Many thanks to all!

First; thank you for the kind words BOTH OF YOU. Good to see I helped you. Second; Who says I won't be doing anything on the Htc One?
I will definitely miss this community too! 3 days before I leave for basic training, my battery goes south and the earliest I can get a new battery is sometime on Tuesday...when I'll already be on a plane to Ft. Jackson. Bought a GS3 on CL, and I must say, the battery life is so phenomenal compared to the Rezound. 12+ hours compared to my average 4-6.
Will definitely miss the devs! I've been here since launch day in November 2011. My oh my how far development has come!!
And now Jellybean is out! I gotta stop monitoring this board cause now I'm hurting lol

Just picked up my 3rd Rezound... a minty used one with a ton of accessories and extra batteries, for $155. Nothing about this phone makes it anywhere near obsolete, but you guys just keep chasing after the latest, greatest shiny new device, and keep spending $$$. The smarter ones will be around to pick up your dirt cheap discarded leftovers. I'm still on my very first Rezound (purchased on Black Friday 2011), I just gave a used "spare" to my wife after her old dumb phone died, and now I have another backup/experimenting phone for cheap.
THANK YOU!

Ahhh... I see. Common sense is the new Jealousy. :silly:
I could pay cash for a new One every month, and never miss the money. I don't live in my mom's basement, either. Fact remains, the Rezound is still a great device, and other than the lemming-like desire to have the "latest and greatest" (for no other reason than the dread of feeling left out of the stampede), there's no real reason to switch from it.
BTW... how much better was that Nexus than your Rezound? (my wife has one for a company-issued phone, and it SUCKS compared to her Rezound)
I am thinking of getting an S4 to replace my Rezound and use the Rezound to replace my D1. That way I can still have the best of both worlds.

BTW... how much better was that Nexus than your Rezound? (my wife has one for a company-issued phone, and it SUCKS compared to her Rezound)

I liked my Nexus way better vs my Rezound. Battery life was better, call quality was great, no creaky back and no washed out colors like the LCD on the Rezound. I do admit that the display on the Rezound is more crisp. That and all AOSP roms atm on the Nexus are way smoother for now. The only reason I dropped the Nexus is cause the screens would keep crapping out on me. Once developement starts firing up for the S4 bye bye S3! Plus if you have the financial standing to buy a new device and have enough left over in your bank for rainy days why care? Spend your money on things you enjoy! Spoil your wife and kids! When you croak and have a nice life insurance policy they'll be set for some time.

Some of us have more disposable income vs others and that's just an unfair fact of life .
Again, even though I myself CAN AFFORD to get a new device. I've not had a reason to. I guess assets and a word call saving doesnt apply when you said "disposable". Just save the "disposable" income. May need it one day.
What I am saying is go for it, but don't fill my mouth with words. Again, jealous, heck no.

When we're talking about a devices that are hobbled by the inability to replace batteries when they go dead (planned obsolescence), or upgrade memory (thus forcing users into relying on cloud storage and higher data charges), then yes... it is a lesser intelligence issue. You're playing into the provider's hands, rather than calling your own shots. (OOOoooo.... look!! SHINY!!!)

I was never implying you were jealous. To each their own when it comes to what they do with their $$$. I just think freedoom is a **** when he is stating someone is of lesser intelligence for hopping on a newer device of their choice. I am directing the comment purely at him.

This is why I choose which shiny new device suits my needs before I buy it and drool. Plus I have unlimited data so idgaf about using cloud solutions . Some people don't care about swapping out batteries.. As most of them will already have a newer device before the battery goes bad. Lol you really think you're calling your own shots when you're contracted with a carrier? I rest my case.

LG G2 price drop bad news?

Does anyone think these crazy deals on the G2 means something is inherently bad with the G2? Maybe the networks are giving up on it or something else is coming out soon? Maybe this means there will be more out there so better dev support? I'm not sure but my wife and I are getting each getting one tonight.

You'll be happy you did. This device is fantastic!! All those reviewers out there crapping on this phone are sharing each others medications or something. They need to use it for more than 20mins.
Yea. Its a great phone. You won't be disappointed with it

No, I don't think something new is coming out I think they are not selling as much as an iPhone or Galaxy phone. People have no idea what they are missing.
Just got mine
I just got one yesterday, and I am damn glad I did. Love this thing already!! P.S. Price drop can mean more people picking one up too.

Doubt it, I was told by multiple Verizon employee's that they we're selling more samsung and apple devices. One store didn't even carry the G2 for that reason.
Well then that very well might mean more dev support as those who are buying it are probably our type .

My android progression has been: HTC Thunderbolt, Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr Maxx HD, and now the LG G2. This phone is AWESOME! Best of the bunch. I've seen the S4 and HTC One, and I think this phone is better than them (although I do really like the HTC One form factor). As you can see, I have no brand loyalty . Hopefully these low prices will get lots of people buying the phone and make it a lot more popular than it is now. It deserves to be in as many peoples hands as possible!
Verizon is doing this to keep its customers. The g2 is identical to the nexus 5, they know this. Anyone with half a brain knows this.
So, have people jump ship and go to sprint or att for 150 dollar phone?
Or they can stay on verizon, get the same phone for 50 bucks.
Verizon knows how to do damage control, they arent that stupid.
There will be a new line up of phones for 2014.
I dont know about you guys, coming from a 2 year old galaxy nexus, I sure as hell could not wait till 2014 for a new phone and This g2 will def last 2 years easily as long as no hardware malfunctions occur..

Except they are not identical. They are similar. :silly:
Isn't the rumor that some of the price drops are occurring because of the upcoming release of the White Version of the G2? At least for Verizon.
Just my two cents but it could be that LG is trying to push more units out and lure people with its price point. LG doesn't have a reputation like Samsung and Apple. They have invested a lot of money in advertising the G2 and I really think they are just trying to get peoples hands on this device. I fell in love with the G2 this way and I initially had the intentions of going sg4.
This phone is amazing and so many times of thought about trading it for a note 3 and said no because of litteraly everything about it. When I want to trade nothing gets in my way. The more people they can get the g2 in peoples hands the better chance lg might not ditch the phone and support it.

Best phone I've owned hands down - I've had many many phones, been a pretty big power user, had iPhones, Palms (Bold and Pre), and now all androids from HTCs, Samsungs, to now LG, Loved the S3, Note 2, and was ok with the S4, but thing thing is the best I've had by far and away out of any of them. I gave up on the S4 mainly due to the locked bootloader and the inability to run AOSP roms on it and may never be able to after the OTAs.
I am so glad I got this phone. You'll love it.
psst.

True they are similar and unless your just have to have a Nexus device the G2 for the masses is better than the N5.
Warning: included is a long history of my Android and parts of my development career which when read lends insight into how I feel.. But feel free to skip to the last few paragraphs. I've frequented XDA since I got my OG DROID and still don't have ten posts... Loser.. Lol.. Well, you've been warned so don't give me a top long I'm too lazy to read. Just skip it, or read the first paragraph or so and skip to the end.. Or read it all. I need more posts so I can start contributing to the dev section and figured I'd actually write what I felt instead of a "lol" just to increase my count.
The Nexus 5 surely doesn't get better battery life ^_^ So much for Google's claims of Kit Kat improving battery life by 20%. I started with the OG DROID and was a common visitor here (although I was to new to post anything useful. I came from being a veteran C/C++ Windows developer. I drove my programmers crazy cause they were all taught MFC - I would never write anything that included the MFC libraries and instead used the Windows Template Libraries. For some reason using templates was Greek to most of them. Never was officially released I don't think but as a MCP I had access to a lot of tools that the Microsoft team actually used themselves. It used templates instead of classes and made building UI easier with a tiny footprint (no larger than just using API) compared to the footprint MFC brought in.
Eventually I just switched to Visual Basic so my programmers could work and maintain the UI and I'd write all the non UI mess using C/C++ (sometimes Java) as distributed objects so that they could just use these lightweight interfaces inside of VB (or whatever language they wanted to use...as long as they could import them in from .dlls or the occasional .exe server. This eventually progressed to where I was used to just create distributed classes/interfaces. For example, the method used for shipping using the FedEx PowerShip Plus servers was to the manually feed in shipping data and the process wasn't integrated. I was working where we shipped music merchandising (musictoday.com). There was a better way. It took forever as FedEx has a huge manual of shipping codes. Wrote up interfaces and implemented. Used that model so that others could import in my implemented version and override whatever functions they needed (this was before VB caught up and allowed this sort of behavior in classes, before then just interfaces. FedEx eventually bought out this component and I got nothing since all my work belonged to them. Also created a ticketing system for several bands connected to a thermal printer to print them. Dave Matthews was the main one using it as our company (Redlight which owned musictoday and Starr Hill.. Owned by Coren Capshaw) was their managers. Their main rehearsal studio at home was adjacent to the gym there where I worked out every day for hours (pissing our CTO off, but i ran the show in the development department and he knew it). Ended up hanging out with him a few times at Boars Head Inn and a few others (too bad I hated his music.. Told him I couldn't stand it and he just laughed). Developed the Friends of Live fansite and I guess I was their first fan club member even though I never signed up (another band I didn't care for much.. I like rock but).. Realized later after I kept receiving VIP passes to their shows (all access backstag, etc.. Which i gave away btw to family) thst I was there first fan because I designed the database for the fan site as well (yeah, was forced to play way too many roles there) and had used my information while testing it out and when I switched it over from the dev database to the live one, I forgot that I had also entered my info in that one as well while creating tthe tables.. Lol
Sorry for the long post about some of my history, but when the OG DROID came out which was my first, my Windows development ceased and I decided to learn Android. Quickly found it was built on a Linux kernel and it took off quickly from there. I even wrote a lot of inline assembly inside some of the IIS extensions I wrote thst queried our database as it had to be fast enough to handle all the traffic querying at the time. I can brag our search routines were fast.. (specifically the routine for searching for concerts based on artist, venue, etc..). I had SQL procedures that parsed the actual query string that the user entered. Which had to be smart enough to detect wildly misspelled names and such.. It was hundreds of lines long). The IIS extension was the bridge and as anyone who's used IIS (well back then) knows, you couldn't write extensions that were heavy.. Or else you'd slow everything down. For making the actual SQL connections, queries, and retuning results, I used the lightest method I could find.. raw SQL with a lot of inline assembly. All that was written just to say I want to kill someone everytime I loolnat small machine code. I can maybe change a color somewhere or if lucky enable paid features on free apps if I'm able by grace of God to find where the correct switch is. And don't get me started other ****... It's like trying to write with your opposite writing hand while driving in a foreign country where they drive on the other side of the road and keep the quality of each at optimum levels. RGB colors for examle are not FFAA66..no..you have to reverse it.
Anybody downloading any mods here which involve reverse engineering and editing small should not take what they get for granted and be very appreciative to the developer. I've followed the scene since the beginning (HarvesterX) and helped out a little (such as on the old Avalon theme for OG DROID which ended up requiring more editing then we were capable of.). While I had my PC, I built a few of my own ROMs (gingerbread.. That's how long I've been without one and when I need to root a phone I use the work computer). Then in progressed to helping debug some applications for some awesome developers. Apps I'm sure the majority of anyone rooted and on here uses as well as ones who those who like to mod use. I don't develop em just debug and troubleshoot and test so I won't give names or credit for any of it. The point is to show that it does take time and lots of work and the guys/gals here are fantastic. If they are doing this professionally, they would be making between $44,000-$110000 a year from it depending on location and level of knowledge. To do this for free means thst you.. Thst we need to donate back by either donating to the develops themselves, or donate to a charity, or just give something of yourself.
Next phone was the Galaxy Nexus. Love or hate it.. It was a great phone when first released and the development was top grade. I went through a rough time in my life during these years and stayed out of actively developing anything or helping (I did throw out a little weather mod that showed the weather as an icon in the notification bar. Soon after I shared it on another site I saw it pop up on a very popular ROM. Didn't irk me.. I took it as a compliment I guess. I wasn't looking for credit. Was just to give back to some friends. Did some theme work for friends as well nothing big
When the GNex eventually died I was sad but happy a the same time. Loved the design of the phone and it could have still been good as a music server or something. USB Flex died on me and by the time the replacement flex arrived in the mail in and gave in and bought the G2 hesitantly. I had horrible past experiences with my baby mommas (ex thank the heavens) LG Ally. Everytime I has to use that phone I wanted to throw it against the wall. It wasn't BAD except crippled as LG decided to skimp on memory. If it had had the same as the OG DROID it would have been much better. I was able to root it and throw on the only custom kernel I could find and thst helped a little.. But the display was grainy and the only positives it had was having Stock Android on it. I knew I didn't want a Samsung device as their ethics have been questionable and frankly I had tried a Motorola (used several actually but only owned the one), a Samsung (again, used lots of em but owned one..), and wanted to see what HTC, Sony, and LG had to offer. Well Sony wasnt gonna happen as I'm not leaving VZW while I'm rocking their unlimited at $50 a month and getting 30-40Mbs downloads at home (can't wait til Advanced is turned on). T-Mobile isn't an option period where I live.. It's no contest). So it was between the One and the G2. I knew about each and the specs (want aware though of all the under the hood specs thst LG didn't advertise a lot, such as their advances in display technology and GRAM). The One is a wonderful piece of hardware and the sound and screen, and build quality screamed at me. If it was one of the unlockable Ones or a Dev Edition I possibly may has missed on the G2. When I saw the G2 I already read about how it was great but..I can't go on reviews.. They are biased as hell and I can't count how many times I've found completely false statements splattered all over a device's review. First impression was thst.. Damn this looks beautiful. Hadn't turned the screen on yet. Reviews said thst it was plastic, felt cheap, and fingerprint magnet. Hmm. Looked more like a high quality poly-carbonate material and it was solid. I was my hands at least two or three times a day.. As well as clean my phone once every day or two. Found the power button and wow. The screen felt like silk. That's all I needed to see. I had already known that dev support would be there for it and I was afraid if I waited then an OTA would come around blocking the loki exploit. Grabbed it at off contract price and realized.. "NO BEZELS!".. I smoke.. (switched to vaporizers though but back to cigarettes while looking for a really good vape.. One I had was crap..). Well thise who smoke I'm sure have had ashes end up inside the bezel and the screen and used tweezers or similar to remove if blowing didn't help... Lol ok yeah I love the phone. I can't say anything bad actually.. Well having bezels is great but also a little irritating at times (rarely but..). If you try to type or drag an icon or tap a link and you have a finger eight on the edge it can cause problems. Took me a while before I realized why my notification bar kept being pulled halfway down..
This huge post leads to the question at hand. Is the price cut good? I like having the G2 as a hidden gem. Had it at work yesterday because I had inadvertently formatted ALL of my data partitition (thanks TWRP! on one side you have format data and a big Warning.. So I go to advanced section and check the box there as I came from clockwork and that seemed the thing to do.. They had a huge Warning on the other button..). Well while downloading the latest CyanogenMod nightly and gapps (just to get something on the phone.. Looking for a ROM I like atm.. Like the CyanogenMod nightlies but calls drop often). The links to all the roms I wanted to try were all leading to dead ends yesterday.. Haven't tried today though. I was using the floor computer and had logged in as admin. During the time I was waiting for the downloads to finish three customers had came in (I sale and install wireless Internet, and one of the few technicians) migrated to see what I was doing. Then I started getting questions like "where are the buttons?" as I had it laying on its back. I had questions of if they could test it out and if it was for sale.. I laughed and said no its my personal one but they are welcome to play with it when I get an operating system back on it. They watched as I opened a command prompt up and pushed the files over and watched the whole recovery process (these are regular people who had no clue any of this was possible). After signing into CyanogenMod and Android I handed it over to the wolves. All three asked me how much and where they could get one (one lady asked me which carrier mine was running one.. Guess she missed all the Verizon branding.. Lol. I told them they could pick up one for AT&T or Verizon (stopped thwre because where I live those are the only viable options for a radius of 40-50 miles.. And a reason our propriety wireless Internet sells so easily.)
I don't know or inside them on the G2 or Android itself but as everyone here knows (and if you don't you will now), stores are going to push devices from the top manufacturers and among those, the devices that they can also sell you accessories for. That mean Apple and Samsung (and the DROID line). LG is known for appliances. And there isn't the plethora of accessories the salesman can tack on. If this phone was pushed the same as the Note 3 or the 5s the price would not be dropping as fast. LG has a history of rapidly dropping it's prices on phones because of this very reason. They can't muscle the store to push their merchandise so they have to resort to drastically cutting costs to recoup on the capital invested.
LG knows they have a hit on their hands as I've never seen as many commercials for any LG product as often as I'm seeing the various G2 comments. The problem is, the commercials aren't really memorable. OK.. Look at Nexus 5 sales versus G2 sales. The Nexus 5 is shipping out of inventory at Google almost as fast as they enter. Google knows how to market. They know the target audience for the Nexus 5 (and since the Nexus 7, the name has became a lot more mainstream). They never had to show one commercial. This leaves me torn. If the G2 had shipped with stock Android and updates straight from Google then it would have sold as fast if not faster then the Nexus 5. The best part is, it's just as easy to unlock (*cough* bypass) the bootloader on the G2 as it is for the Nexus 5. N5 has the advantage in updates.. Yeah we have 4.3 and will have 4.4 but until LG releases updated libraries for the G2, the 4.3 and 4.4 bulds will be a mix and mash of the new thst works mixed with older lib files. Same problem on the OG DROID, yes that was a HUGE hit.
It's not like LG isn't gaining recognition as they've developed all the latest Nexi.. Problem is thlse aren't sold as LG Nexus. In my opinion LG has been the most innovative this round of relaases. Yes they deserve more, but it's not a "Ah good job here's a good star" world. There are bullies on the playground and we all know the two bullies I'm talking about. LG has to keep fighting back and winning. They need to see the G2 as an astounding success (though I'm sure it will be passed on for having 1GB less RAM.. Which might be relevant by the next time upgrades roll around but for now... On Samsung stuff I get it as TouchWiz used 1GB of it..) instead of just a failed device. I recommend this phone to everyone. I show it to them and they say *I love it but can't afford it*.. Well its like $79 or cheaper.. How much cheaper do you want? I paid $549 for mine off contract. Hopefully by the time they jeep unlimited away I'll live where T-Mobile is solid or they'll expand here.

Hi,

XDA app crashes... Don't quote this post please
Have to disagree about the statement above (the g2 is identical to the n5) I have both and the g2 is much better than the n5 -front facing camera 2.1mp =back camera 13mp both better, sound quality much better, battery life is much better, not charged the g2 for three days and its at 13% and the design and quality on the g2 is, well its designed !whereas the n5 looks functional in comparison but then you are paying more for the g2, anyhow enjoy your phones, if you put the phones together and compare them the g2 just looks better, I think this phone is the best on the market right now
but that's just my thoughts.

[Q] ZU Owners - good value at £250?

So I tragically lost my dear M7 One. I'm scouting around for a replacement, and I realize these can be had for like £250, which is so much cheaper than anything else from 2013 (heck, it's cheaper than some 2012 flagships). I'm guessing Sony just made way too many and can't sell them but - is this a good buy? At that price, it seems excellent (apart from the terrible camera, I can live with that).
As a bonus question - easy to unlock/flash CM onto? And the CM11 monthlies are now all good? Thanks all

One thing for sure, once you go big it will be hard to return to small screen. and yeah that is pretty much a bargain if you can get one. So much power for such a small price. The only consideration might be to keep it alive after 2 years i.e. While battery spare part last.
To be honest, stock Sony ROM is still better than pure AOSP. Not that pure one isn't good but just lack all the subtle feature that Sony managed to inject without overflowing the UI.

Absolutely. I paid around $1000 when it got released, and I ain't even mad. Worth it then, and absolutely worth the 250 now.
Hmm, I'm feeling more and more sold on this. You'd definitely recommend leaving the stock on over CM? I'm not a heavy enough user of CM to absolutely require it, just preferred it over overly-skinned carrier roms.

Got one last week for £250 and it's well worth it. My only fear is that I'll never be able to use a smaller phone again.
I've usually got a custom rom on my phone the day I receive it but have stuck with stock as it's so good.
My only disappointment was I received an invite for a oneplus one for £269 two days after I received this, but have convinced my partner to buy it.
Go on buy it, you won't regret it!

Well...there is one rom that popped up here at the forum a few weeks ago. Candy rom. This is the only DAMN ****ING awesome rom that I have ever flashed on this device that really blew my mind away! This rom is the definition to perfect. Just like the Runnemede rom for HTC Desire back in the days.
Here's the link

I'm not making commercial for Candyrom but this rom just blew my mind away..
Oh btw... I have had my device for about a year now. And it feels like its still brand new Its well worth the manaay!
Yep I would do it still, as lordmanhattan said we paid a good chunk of dosh (no I won't tell SWMBO the current prices). I paid ~$900 for my first one and the the second I got for ~$400 second hand, they can be had new for about that now.
