[Q] Backup Phone, Enable USB Debug on Samsung Galaxy S3 that has a broken screen - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help with my poorly phone?
My phone broke a couple of days ago and the screen is black and digitizer has broken therefore I’m unable to use it. I don’t think there is any point trying to get the screen fixed but it will cost as much as a new phone would. But what I would like to do is backup the data on my phone.
I have not got USB Debugging enabled and when I connect my phone to the PC, the drivers are installed and I see my phone as a portable media device but there are no files or drives to display the phones data through windows explorer! Please help!?
After some research on the internet I have downloaded [email protected] and ADB.exe but the phone is not recognised (I believe this is because USB Debugging is not enabled).
I then did some further investigation and managed to book my phone under fastboot in recovery mode and selected ADB mode, this connects to my PC and new driver is installed but I am now not sure how I can use this mode to backup my device? And enable USB debugging so I can use my phone on [email protected]
Anyone able to help?
Thanks

Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.

Good luck

[Q] Galaxy S2 USB issue

Hi all,
I have a really weird problem im hoping someone can help me with.
I cant seem to get my S2 detected in windows when connected via USB. It charges no problems but I cannot see the storage on the phone.
However the phone is deteced in download mode OK so I can use odin to flash firmware if needed. I have tried gonig back to stock image but still makes no difference. Done all the driver installs / uninstalls, reboot of PC and phone etc, but nothing seems to make a difference, I just can see the storage under windows.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Go 2 Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Device Manager, then plug in a cable and watch for changes to the hardware list. If your phone appears in the list, then all should be ok.
do you mean when the phone is in normal mode or download mode? I cant see the phone listed in device manager when in normal mode.
When i try to put the phone in mass storage mode via the USB utilities in the setting, I get the prompt to connect a USB cable, however, when i do connect it, the pop up fails to disappear and the PC doesnt detect

Probably it's a Windows fault. Try on another computer, but if the problem persists, then it's a phone issue.
yeap, tried it on more than one machine. One one machine it would detect in normal or download mode, but on another machine it detects in download mode but not normal mode. i dont understand how it can transfer data while in download mode as it must detect some sort of storage???

Try turning off 'Usb Debugging' if ticked.
tried that too. when selecting USB mass storage, it prompts that usb debugging will be switched off
Reinstall Windows. This is the best solution.

[Q] No Download Mode Detection Galaxy S3 I9300 O2 UK [FIXED]

Hi, first post here.. so Hi
I have an issue with my S3, i can't get my pc to detect it in download mode at all, no reaction from windows.. if didnt plug it in to the pc at all, it worked once, and it took me reinstalling drivers for hours to get it working, this is when i first rooted the phone using the cf-root method..
When i wanted to install a custom rom a few months ago i discovered it went back to not getting detected and has stayed that way
it's as if i've not connected it to the pc at all, i'm using a rear usb port, with the original cable, below is a short list of what i've tried
Tried 3 different cables
Used a brand new install of windows 7 with SP1
tried various Samsung ADB Drivers
Tried every single USB port, front and back on my pc
Used as many different USB Debugging options as possible
I noticed that when i turn on USB debugging after enabling developer mode, nothing changes on the pc, if i remember rightly my S2 made windows install the adb driver when i turned USB debugging on..
Any help is appreciated with this, never had any of this happen with my S2 lol :/ i've been messing around on and off the last few months with it, thankfully there's Mobile Odin and also Nandroid backups for me to fall back on
Pulling the battery with the cable plugged in while my S3 was in download mode is what fixed this for me...
With the usb cable plugged into the PC but NOT the phone, go into download mode.
Connect cable to the phone, then pull the battery out.
Once windows detects the phone and installs drivers it's safe to put the battery back in.
Phone will be detected by Odin/ CyanogenMod installer and so on.
Why in hell having the battery in stops windows detecting the phone in download mode is beyond me.. unless samsung did it on purpose? lol..
Installed CM 11 using the above method and it went perfectly, but i do have to use the above method whenever i want to flash something using my pc, so it's more of a work around than a fix..
Fix was found on YouTube of all places! hope this helps anyone else

[Q] [Q ; HELP] IMMEDIATE HELP for USB Debugging Problem

I have an LG L7 II Dual P715, and I was in 4.4.2 before, now I downgraded to Jellybean so that I'll be able to root it [I GOT THE KDZ FILE OF THE JB FIRMWARE FOR MY DEVICE FROM THIS LINK http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=21 ]. When I connected my phone to my laptop running windows 7 32-bit without turning on the USB Debugging yet and keep it in MTP connection, my phone got recognized immediately by the laptop (because i already had the drivers installed even before), but whenever I turn on the USB Debugging, when i connect it to my laptop, it just charges and it doesn't automatically enter the USB Connection Type where in i supposedly have to choose whether to use MTP connection or LG Software connection etc. unless I manually go to that section in the settings of the phone.
I have downloaded the driver of my phone. I even downloaded a universal driver of LG yet I still get the problem.
so basically, the problem is I CAN'T CONNECT MY PHONE TO MY LAPTOP IF IT'S IN A USB DEBUGGING MODE. I opened the Device Manager and I can't seem to find any trace of my device when it is in USB debugging mode Except if It is TURNED OFF.
What do you think is the problem with this? Is it my LG phone or the computer who has the problem? When I was in kitkat, I never experienced such issue, but when I flashed it back to JB, I cant rid of this problem anymore, PLEASE HELP, I badly want to connect my phone to the laptop while the USB Debugging is turned on.

If all you need is to root your device then you don't need USB debugging. You just need to use copy Framaroot's apk to your device and install it, and that you can do in MTP mode as well.

Never had similar problems with the USB drivers nor needed LG's tools, so can't help you there.

Help with broken lcd device

Hello,
recently my bluboo xtouch (android 5.0.1) got its display broken and so i cna't see anything on screen, so to get access again to it i wanted to use [email protected] but my device isn't recognized by adb.
the touch on the phone still works but i don't know how well, the phone is still working as it is receiving messages and phone call, i managed to get the phone connected to the same network of my pc.
Now, usb debugging should be on as i never turned it off (is there a way of testing if it is enabled?), the phone is set to PTP as windows recognize it as a camera and i can access the phone but only the folders called
DCIM and Pictures. Under device manager it shows up as a portable device. The problem is that it won't show up in adb, i tried a lot of solution but nothing worked (the adb_usb.ini is set to the right VID, i got the drivers for my phone installed, i got 2 version of adb (one sohuld be 32 another 36) one from a freshly new install of android studio and another that i think is the universal one).
IT DOES SHOW UP IF I PUT IT IN (VOL+)+(POWER) MODE
Now i have no clues of to get it working i thought that, if the problem is the PTP mode i would need screenshots of the ui so i can change the mode without seeing the real screen, but the rom that is used by my device
is not that popular.
Anyone has any idea on how to show it under adb devices?
Thanks in advance
NEWS
i managed to reach the "select type of connection" and i've tried charge mode (doesn't work), old for xp (it shows up as a cd rom), and now i'm trying with MTP but i got problem with drivers
NEWS II
i managed to connect the phone in mtp and to copy all the files i needed to the pc, but still i'd like to get [email protected] working, i can swap between connection mode (mtp, ptp, charge) and i can unlock the phone (cause it's fingerprint locked). My new problem is: how do i backup all of my contacts?

Remove lock or enable usb debugging on non-rooted phone (Read data inside a locked phone)?

So i forgot the PIN number on my old phone which was not rooted, had no recovery software (Cwm, Xrec, etc.) installed on it, and has usb debugging and auto-mount disabled. We don't know the google account associated with the phone. Basically all I have is the phone and a usb cable. Is there a way to get the user data out of it? Adb won't recognise the device btw. I do apologise if it's a stupid question. The phone automatically connected to the wifi, and I'm on Linux, if that helps. But I managed to get into recovery but adb only recognises the device in sideload mode. The files inside the phone is extremely important to me because it contain photo of my family member that were passed away.
Phone: Vivo V7 Plus
I wanted to try brute-force the PIN with program but unfortuntely the phone will cool down for 7000 second (3hours+)
A phone typically knows of 2 USB modes: ADB & MTP. If MTP mode was enabled and phone supports a USB-C connection then it should be possible to fetch the user-data you're interested in.

Hi, first of all thanks for your respond. In order to enable MTP i need to have the phone unlock right? how can i enable MTP if the phone is locked ?
All I know is that ADB is the door to any Android device and nothing than that.
