Can I hard brick my Z2 if I try to flash Z3 firmware on it? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

both phones has shinano platform, so maybe it would work, but if not, will this hard brick my device?
I tried to flash Xperia SL, acro S and ion firmware on my Xperia S (all four phones has fuji platform) and it was working, so I think that it should work with Z2 and Z3 too. I also tried to flash Xperia T and Z firmware on my Xperia S and it wasn't working and just soft bricked my device. I tried to flash custom rom on locked bootloader Xperia S and it was just a bootloop. I have tried many stupid things on my XS and nothing has hard bricked it. I read that locked bootloader devices cannot be hard bricked just soft bricked, is it true? I can't hard brick a locked bootloader phone?

Its somewhat true, a Locked Bootloader is Harder to hardbrick that a unlocked Bootloader but the Z2 has a dedicated reset Key
Z3 firmware should run fine on Z2, just needs to be modified a tiny bit and compiled with the correct board config
Im not going to try it because i actualy need my phone
And why do you need to flash Z3 firmware when 167 update is a near direct port from the Z3

I don't know why, I just want it. and maybe Z3's 5.0 update comes a bit sooner than Z2

Sure, you can get back your phone to work by flashing FTF File

Emm, don't think so. Sony said that both Z3 and Z2 will be first to receive 5.0 so I think we both should have a 5.0 on the same day.

Unlocking Bootloader

I have uk Xperia Ultra and tried to install pa on her last night which failed and I ended up with a soft brick which I managed to recover back to stock firmwire, I have now rerooted my phone and have full root I now understand I need to unlock my bootloader but when I do that *# thing it says I cannot unlock bootloader and flashtool also says that ? So does that mean I can never install custom rom on my phone ?????

Well that sucks. Did you purchase your Ultra from a carrier or something?

as far as i know, no one has discovered an exploit yet with the Z1 or Ultra... so you can't unlocked a bootloader (with a locked device)
I'm guessing its likely to happen, as with the two devices being basically internally identical, you'll have double the chance.

[Q] [HELP] Flashed Z Ultra GPE to Stock. No Power

I flashed the C6806 Stock ROM, specifically C6806_14.3.A.0.681_1276-1569_R3C.ftf to my Z Ultra GPE running 4.4.4 using FlashTool in Mac. The flash did complete on it, but there is no activity on the phone (does not take charge and is possibly bricked). Is there a way to recover it to last working state?
Any input will be highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot for your input. Device still in warranty, so thinking of asking Sony for a replacement. Hopefully it works out.

You will have to go through Google Play Store for warranty, not Sony

Original Firmware and How to

Hi,
I've bought a used Xperia Z Ultra, that was rooted with dirty unicorn.
Found that the call function wasn;t working properly (screen went off when making/receiving calls)
Decided to flash the original official firmware, but not very sure what are the steps. And also having difficulties finding the US firmware.
Can someone please enlighten me?
Thanks a bunch in advance.
Research XPERIFIRM and FLASHTOOL.

If you want the real original thing, you can use the Sony PC Companion instead. It has easy explanations before each of the few steps you'll walk before you get the original firmware. You can go to the official Sony Z Ultra support web page and download it. :good:
Actually Sony Companion will not work on any device with an umlocked bootloader.
The bootloader must be re-locked to use PC Companion.
I literally just did this on Monday.

I don't believe it is possible to flash custom firmware unless the bootloader is unlocked.
The OP stated "Decided to flash the original official firmware" which leads me to believe the Bootloader is unlocked and running a custom rom.

Wrong place, technically the same but they run different firmware no's so no good for the normal xa and multiple repeat questions in different threads/forums is called spamming and a also against xda rules I do believe I've answered your question already

It is not the same, dude. I got three devices, X, XA and XA ultra. I am asking for all devices for safety because my friend bricked his XA ultra by flashing with flashtool.

Flashing a device is never fully safe, not only on phones. You will always see warnings about that. Read https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brick_(electronics)
I know the term. There are two types, soft brick and hard brick. I have flashed over hundred xperia devices with flashtool and got never hard bricked. I just want to know the experience of flashing new Xperia X series cuz XA and XAU are MTK devices.

A messages for bricked phones with void warranty, did you tried to open the device and remove the battery for flashing? You can see around the Web that's a solution to unbrick some MTK devices.

[Q] How to restore my XA Ultra with a unlocked bootloader and root?

My situation is that after rooting, my front camera just stopped focusing, and i also noticed that the app crashes when it need to adjust the exposure (if i bring the phone to a more bright enviroment), so i believed that using the Xperia companion "repair software" option would unroot my phone and lock the bootloader again, but surprise! I just recently saw on a sony support page that Xperia companion doesn´t works with modified devices, so i don´t know what to do in order to restore my XA ultra to verify if the root was the cause of the front camera stopped working
Model F3213
Sorry for my bad english, greetings from México!
I got same issue as you (mine f3216)..don't worry, you just need to reflash stock firmware by latest flashtool..make sure you exclude all .ta file before flash stock firmware.
I found this issue and make an experiment and i believe this problem exist after flash boot.img...we need help from rrvuhpg to compile boot.img from latest firmware..
Btw, now my f3216 hard bricked when i downgrade fw..i sent to sony..waiting my dead f3216 live..huhu
So if I exclude all the.ta files before flashing my XA won't hard brick? I don't want to take the risk of going into a hard brick, the Sony team here on Mexico is a mess
