"Settings App" Back up needed/request - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Help. I installed this mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/themes-apps/mod-advanced-settings-mod-v1-t3022409
and i thought that it will work on Stock roms 4.4.4 so i tried and installed it and now i cant see the Settings app anymore on my device so im asking/requesting if anyone has a back up of it im using 4.4.4 Stock LTE version unbranded device. i have done a back up using titanium but i can't restore the Settings App is not listed.
Another thing i kept my Pre-Rooted 4.4.4 firmware which i created weeks ago so i can root my 4.4.4 device. if worst happens can i just flash it via recovery so that my phone will be back to normal? if YES then will my root be gone? do i need to flash the kernels again via Flash Tool like before?
thanks in advance for who will help me
Note* Im not blaming @Rajeev or anything it was my own personal mistake not reading carefully

I just uploaded my settings in a rar file. The apk is 2mb over the limit so I had to zip it. That should get you out of trouble. Just download winrar for android to unzip and move to /system/priv-app/ with 644 permissions.
I would assume if you reflash a stock ftf you will loose root. Next time you should backup your rom in recovery and if anything bad happens you can restore the system partition.

Than you so muck i backed up via Titanium before doing the mod but it did not do the trick ill try it now thanks

Yea titanium is hit and miss. Best to do a nandroid backup in twrp or cwm.

i was able to locate my settings.apk from my back up and tried to copy it to the destination you gave and use the permission but it won't install it gives error =(

The download works for me. I just downloaded the rar, extracted the file and replaced my settings file.
You don't install it, just move the apk to /system/priv-app and change the permissions to 0644. That's it.

Thanks everything is working back to normal

Titanium is not great. The best backup is full backup (in CWM/TWRP).

Lost contacts with Ineffabilis ROM....

I lost my contacts because I accidentally hit the uninstall people in the debloater menu. I tried restoring with titanium backup, but it just stays frozen. The phone dialer doesn't work either so I can't make any outgoing calls. Is there any way to get it back without reflashing the ROM?
a phone that can't make phone calls
..ouch
Easy way is to just flash the rom over what you have to get it working properly.
I don't see why you couldn't just pull the People.apk (or whatever it's called) from the .zip file the rom was packaged in, place it in system/app, set permissions and reboot.
Well flashing the ROM wipes all data before it gets flashed. How exactly would I pull out the apk? I'd appreciate it if you could guide me through it.

Oh I see. I would make a copy of the rom.zip you have then using a program (like 7zip or WinRAR) extract the zip and navigate to system>app>htccontacts.apk. Pull that apk and use THIS tool to make a flashable zip to replace the apk.
All right thanks a lot!
Cool...no problem. Sh** happens.

update.zip creation using TB

In titanium backup : setting/more/create 'update.zip'
What is it? Am I right to think when I rooted my sg2 I loaded a 'update.zip' of the stock ROM, if I now create this 'update.zip' of my phone, will it restore everything (apps, data, etc etc of my phone as it currently is when the file is created?
So it's a backup of my phone in all aspects, that I can restore at anytime.
Please let me know.

Nope. The update.zip just flashes the TB app either into system/app or data/app after you flash a clean rom.

That may have been true in past but in latest versions of TB there is also an option in batch menu/recovery section for you to create a update.zip for your apps/app data which can be flashed in recovery. You will also need ZipSigner from market I think so they will work with CWM.

Is there any way to delete a mod without having to restore a backup or...

Is there any way to delete a mod without having to restore a backup or having to flash the whole rom again ?
this is the mod i wish to uninstall btw: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997919
PD: OP has not provided any cwm flashable zip file to uninstall, is there any workaround to delete all rom-related files ?
The only way I could think of is to open the mods zip and see what files it replaces, then just replace all of them in your phone with stock ones.
Just make sure to backup and wipe caches incase of problems.

[Q] How to recover using image.zip?

Hello good people of XDA!
First of all I promise, I used the search function, couldn't find anything.
I messed up the restore files, trashed my settings, but I had an image.zip that I saved using recovery-cwmtouch-6.0.3.1-GTI9300.
Question is, how do I restore from the image.zip file?
Stay sharp..

I suppose that as any custom ROM. Just flash it, and see what happens (mine gets hang while doing the flash )
Confirmed. Flash it as any custom ROM
Duh.. Retarded me dropped the image.zip in the clockworkmod backup folder so it complained about the md5sum file. So I moved the file to the external SD card and then it updated, but the phone was still in the trashed state, so I did a full wipe, reinstalled Omega 44.4 and then updated the image.zip again, but now my phone was as it is when you do a full wipe, all settings where as default and not as it was when I restored it.
Doesn't image.zip back up anything..?
In my case fills up a .zip weighting 900Mb, so i suppose yes. It backups anything... Moreover. If you open the zip file, you should see the usual backup files plus a binary script to handle the install

The image.zip is 647 MB.
Unzipping image.zip gives me:
META-INF [a folder]
image-edify
system.ext4.tar.a
boot.img
system.ext4.tar
And what program do I use to restore this with?
It's up to you. Yua can extract the backup from the .zip file, and restore as usual, or you can flash the .zip itself. It is your choice

HTC One X+ plus - Flash a ROM

I'll appreciate if someone could help me here as I'm new to ROM flashing etc.
I have the stock ROM atm and want to install CyanogenMod 10.1.
I have read the guide but there are a few points that I'd like to clarify, which are not really explained in the guide.
I understand that I have to wipe everything to install the new ROM.
I have TWRP and have just made a full backup, after installing the new ROM,can I get all my stuff back, eg. messages, contacts, apps settings and messages(e.g viber messages) and so on?
if yes, how do I do so?
Thanks

You should use your applications to backup your messages / settings etc. if it is supported.
You need to create a folder named 0 in root of the virtual SD card and move all your contents under 0 folder.
Of course you need to flash the ROM with a compatible kernel..
After installing the new ROM, I've tried to restore the data that I backed up using TWRP but it didn't work.
Now I want to go back to the stock rom and I tried to restore my last backup but it's stuck on the htc splash screen.
I believe I need to fastboot the stock boot.img file but I don't have anywhere, where can I get it from?
Now I'm in a very desperate situation. I've been searching for a stock boot.img file so I could restore back everything.
I thought I found one, I used fastboot to flash the recovery.img file and then went to recovery to restore my backup
now all the data has disappeared ! no restore files etc !
what shall I do?

recovery.img is not kernel (boot.img).
Flash TWRP recovery image again and hopefully you will find your backups... Never tried such funny things, so not sure ...

can you please tell me where I can find both the kernel(boot.img) and twrp.img ?
and do I use the same process to flash the twrp.img file?(e,g fastboot boot twrp.img)?
Thanks

If you did not format /data partition in recovery, your data should still be there, but it sounds like there's something messed up with the /0 folder on your virtual sdcard, created due to multi user feature of android 4.2.
I suggest you chose a rom you'd like to try, flash the correct boot.img (kernel) for this rom, and then install rom using "adb sideload" command.
You should then be able to find your previous sdcard content on your phone using a root explorer and if necessary move it to the right sdcard folder for your android version:
Android 4.1: /data/media/
Android 4.2: /data/media/0/
if it's in the right place you should be able to backup your data to your computer, where it is safe while you can try whatever rom pleases you.

put the cm 10.1 in your phone. your bootloader has to be unlocked, you must be rooted, and have a custom recovery, everything so far ? next what i do is i go into bootloader flash the boot.img then go into recovery and flash the rom and gapps.Use hassons toolkit to flash the cm 10.1 boot.img.

fastboot devices works in bootloader
but when in twrp I activate sideload and then from the pc I try to use adb sideload to push files ,it says no device found
adb devices shows an empty list.
It worked only once at the beginning but not anymore
ps:
I can connect now; I am using the following command
adb sideload nameOfTheFile

Ok, I managed to isntall cyanmod again but I can't find my previous data, all pics, music and everything is gone.
I didn't format the data so it must be somewhere but can't find it.
I can see any folder called 0 or 1 in the data folder
PS: FINALLy I managed to restore my last backup, all the settings and apps seems to be fine the backup retained all the settings, apps, messages etc.
however I lost all the music, pics etc.
I didn't format and I remember someone mentioned that they might be somewhere else, where can they be? as I can't see any path called data/media
there's a "data" folder in the device but is empty
Thanks
It should be on the root of your Virtual SD card - as it was...
However if you backup normally - music etc are not backed up.
If there is a 0 named folder in root of your VSD - check there...

yes there is a folder called "0" in the following path /sdcard/0
but is empty . I mean it has all the folder names (e.g music, dcim) but all are empty.
in Addition: If I check how much free space I have in my phone ,it says 55.6GB ,so its sort of emtpy :/

You must use a file explorer with root function and you actually have to grant superuser access for it, otherwise /data folder will be displayed as empty. As i said if you did not format /data partition in TWRP, your data should still be there.

ah sry, didn't read that. then it's most probably deleted... you can still check your /data/media/ folder with a root explorer, but it seem your data is gone...
I can't believe it, I didn't even format or anyting like that.
I had some important stuff in it and it's all gone now :/
Can someone tell me if there's a way to do a complete backup that includes media as well?
I'd like to try to cyanmod because ive lost all my data anyway, so what is the best way to restore all my apps, messages, contacts etc. once I've installed cyanmod?
THanks

The only way to backup your virtual sdcard is copying the content to your computer.
So you're now back on stock rom or any rooted rom?
If you're rooted you can backup your apps and app settings with Titanium Backup, without root you should try Helium - App Sync and Backup. For messages you can use SMS Backup & Restore and the Contacts app has an export function.
After you made all these backups, copy all the content of your phones internal memory to your computer, so these backups are safe.
Then you can try any rom you want, copy back the sdcard contents and restore your backups.

These sort of backups seem to be a headache. The only good one seem titanium backup ,which I believe has the batch option but you have to pay for it; i heard is worth it.
I am back to my original rom, which isn't stock(i forgot that I had a custom rom lol) but revolution.
The app that you've suggested are very specific, for example I have kik, viber etc and these don't have a backup functionality-will I be using titanium for them too? does titanium do a full backup of contacts and messages as well?
