[Q] Zenfone 5 - Cannot select 3G after Root and installing Xposed - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Device: Asus Zenfone 5
Model Number: ASUS_T00J
Android Version: 4.4.2
Build Version: ASUS_T00j_WW_user_2.21.40.44_20150117_82
Hi,
5 days ago I rooted my Zenfone 5 using instructions mentioned on the post: "http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/root-asus-zenfone-5-kitkat-4-4-2-100-t2947092"
I was able to root the phone in one attempt.
Subsequently I installed Xposed framework: By running Terminal Emulator and then using commands:
>su
>echo 148 > /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/jit_reset_offset
>chmod 664 /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/jit_reset_offset
I installed a few modules as well - things were working fine.
THEN 2 days back system upgraded OTA to new firmware and I was not careful to select 'survival mode' in superSU, as a result the phone was UNROOTED.
I followed the same method again, this time though while rooting at the last restart the phone shut down and did not restart. So after manually restarting, I checked and found I had root access.
I installed Xposed, and the modules.
YESTERDAY I noticed that I am not able to select 3G or 2G/3G in "preferred network type". So I went to *#*#4636#*#* and manually selected WCDMA. YET again no luck, I tried selecting 3G through APM+ module, thinking may be this is what made me lose 3G - BUT still no success.
Unfortunately I did not take a backup of myy phone before I rooted. (Though all my contacts, SMSes, email, pics etc is synced to google drive).
My question is: How do I get 3G back?
Thanks a lot in advance.

I insert 2 sim, go to *#*#4636#*#* turn off radio , then turn on. It work.
Try it.

CM11 No Radio/no service

Hi guys,
so i decided to try a nightly of CM11.(4.4.2) flashed with safestrap 3.65, rom slot-1 etc no errors what-so-ever; boots perfectly. (gapps not flashed yet)
After phone setup, i unlock my sim. --> then i see verry short 3G Vodafone. it disconnects and does not come back.
When i try to search for networks, i get an error wich sasy something like: "Error resolving networks". Sim toolkit is working.
also a request to unlock my simcard is popping-up at a random rate. it disappears after ~2s.
i google'd around and came accross the baseband wich might be an issue. the phone says i have "u_04.10.00r". seems like its the most stable one from what i read. I decided not to mess with it (yet), because i still works on stock rom.
Now i have flashed CyanFox (4.4.2) nightly. no change. (also gapps not flashed,)
Hope someone maybe has the same problem or even better knows a solution.
Edit: The last nightly i flashed is from CM11 official Feb/05. only difference is the sim unlock request pops up more frequently. It also shows a full radio bar for 1 sec after it disappears.
(gone too fast to input something...)
Edit 2: After the Feb/6 nightly, no change. i have been keeping my eye on the status info. it says the following:
Network: Unknown / unknown / Vodafone NL
Singal: -57 dBm 28 asu (variates)
mobile network type: unknown / unknown / UMTS
service status: Radio Off / not in use / in use
It is switching all the time. before it goes 'in use' it asks for sim unlock, goes away and it's for a short time in use.
I really have no clue...
Edit 3: Progress...
According to an other post i had to delete CellBroadcastReciever.apk from the zip file. re-installed, and i had network connection. but no internet. (singal indicator was orange).
After looking for running apps, the cell broadcaster was still running? (maybe i did not wiped correctly) after is stopped the app, my internet connection works!.
Im trying a really fresh install next, see what happens.
Thanks in advance.
[Solved]
After deletion of romslot-1, re-creating one, wiping, deleting the CellBroadcastReceiver.apk from the install package. And finally installing...
It works like it should.
Maybe this is helpfull for someone in the future!

[Q] not connecting to network

so i have spring note 3 and i want to use it in romania but there was no international unlock until now.
the phone is sm-n900p with 4.4.2 nc5 with CF-auto root from chainfire.
i have used the apk from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56489748&postcount=1355 to unlock the phone for international use and it worked.
the problem is that the phone makes and receives calls for the first 10 seconds or so. After that it won't and after a minute the network disconnects and in a few seconds it reconnects and it works for 10 secs and it keeps doing that on a loop. I am in romania on cosmote, now called telekom.
i went into service mode and the first line changes. for the first 10 seconds it says gsm900:idle and when that happens i can call and receive calls. after 10 seconds the line changes to gsm:idle and i can't call or receive calls. an then it changes to rrc:idle band 1 and the signal indicator says no network. and after a minute it changes back to gsm900:idle ant everything starts all over again.
i tired orange and digi and they work but no mobile data, although i did not really try to fix the mobile data problem since i have a telekom sim that i am trying to make work.
i noticed that on orange the first line is rrc:idle band1 or band8 and works all the time (i can make and receive calls).
the sim i have is a normal sim that i had for 2 years and i cut it to a micro sim 1 year ago for an allview and it worked perfectly. i thought it might be the sim so i tried a telekom micro sim and the same happened.
someone suggested to try going in the hidden menu and follow the steps here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593305 but now i can't enter hidden menu. hidden menu enabler says link status disconnected. i don't know why because a few months ago i was able to get in hidden menu using this post.
i searched for another way to access hidden menu on google an i got https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqmIq7_RQh0 wich says to use fx and i did and the guy said to go in system/efs/carrier but there is no carrier folder in my efs folder.
on the unlock post someone suggested to flash the mj4 modem so i first flashed the stock nc5 rom, then i rooted using CF-auto root method from chainfire and finally flashed the mj4 modem but the problem is exactly the same.
after this there is still no carrier folder in my efs folder so i can't try to access hidden menu.
i still have 1.5 years on my telekom contract so switching is not an option. plus telekom is the best for me right now so....... can anyone please help?
i wanted to give all the details i knew so the post ended up being very large. i apologize for that and thank you for reading.

First I would save all your data to a PC and do a factory reset. Then Odin a fresh copy of NC5 and get back to bone stock, let the device sit for 10 minutes and settle down then root. Now bloat and set it up as a daily user, now make a back up so you have a base to work from. Here is a link to help with that http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/samsung-note-3-rom-flashin-basics-t2896440 . Next try downloading and then reinstalling the above mentioned apk again to see if you got a bad download or install the first time. To get into the hidden menu use this apk http://forum.xda-developers.com/not.../app-one-click-hotspot-enabler-menus-t2816159 Enjoy !!!

How to Reset Radio Cell settings / Force enabling SIMs after messing with Bands ?

Hi everyone,
First post on XDA after years looking for solutions for my smartphones here.
I was playing a bit with my Archos 50 Diamond (dual-sim, 2015), in order to use it as my main phone, as my current one is slowly dying. I purchased a new touchscreen I replaced myself as the former one was broken, and tried to put my SIM inside. No signal.
I tried a factory reset. Still no signal. SIM was detected, asked for PIN, but no signal. After searching in several forums, I managed to arrive on Radio Info settings. (code through dialer is *#*#46363#*#*, anyway I cannot access any code through the dialer, don't know why, so I arrive there using an app downloaded on Play Store)
As I was playing around, I chose "Choose Radio Band" and selected USA Band. Big mistake. All frequency were gone (GSM, LTE) and the "prefered network" option is stuck on "WCDMA only". Of course, I live in France, we use GSM/LTE frequencies, so no signal.
Moreover, the "Turn Radio on" button doesn't affect the radio cells.
After a few factory resets, I already tried the following :
- erasing modemst1 and modemst2, through fastboot. It resulted only in erasing IMEI, great. I restored IMEI through "IMEI changer.exe" I found on the web. Both IMEIs came back.
- enabling all necessary bands through CDMAtool (or Qualcomm QSPT/QXDM tools, it's the same process, using Android Diagnostic Mode) - All GSM/LTE bands will appear on the smartphone using an app like "Network Signal Guru". After that, I can change "prefered network" in "Radio Info menu", so this is better that stuck on "WCDMA prefered". But the SIM is now undetected, no PIN is asked, so I cannot even verify if signal is back.
- Adb shell su -c "radiooptions [arguments from 0 to 8, 0 resets, 5 turns on)" _ using option 5 will actually turn Radio on, but no effect on if the SIM is detected or not. By the way, it turns radio cell for 1st SIM, but not for 2nd (we can see it in "About Phone, State" in phone settings)
- Tried to edit build.prop in order to see what I can do, but I couldn't see no effects either.
- Tried to flash NON-HLOS.bin, but didn't help either. I couldn't find fsg file inside my factory firmware image zip.
So for now, I know how to enable bands I need with CDMAtools, and turning on/off radio cell through adb shell or Terminal Emulator. However Radio Cell will turn off automatically on every reboot, need to turn on manually everytime I boot.
But SIM is not detected at all. I'm not sure if there would be some signal if SIM was detected, but it would be great if I could figure it at least.
Phone is rooted, STOCK firmware Android 4.4, no existing custom ROM, can boot into CMW if needed.
I've tried a lot of tutorials, I don't even remember which ones I did or not, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't find solutions on XDA or stackexchange at this moment.
If you can help, thanks in advance
Cheers
Samuel
Hello. is the replay to this post?

No data connection on H930DS on the 3 network, UK after reflashing Stock pie

I can't get the data connection to work at all, and it won't even connect to a 4g network even when the signal is strong. Mine is a H930DS (Joan?)
I just reinstalled the stock pie using "H93031a_00_OPEN_EU_OP_1105.zip", I installed in TWRP. I followed the instructions on the first page of this thread .....
I have tried various custom roms on this phone but this stock pie is one of the very few that even recognizes the sim card. I settled on stock pie inspite of the bloatware.
The problem happens when the rom is brand new, before ANYTHING is disabled or removed.
When I choose to search for a Network Operator (using the 3 Network sim) I get a "3 RAT-4G" and a "3 RAT-3G" listed and it will never connect to the 4G if I choose that one. It will only connect to the 3G. Even when the signal is very strong (5 bars). When I opt to connect to the 3G network then I get a stronger signal if I choose "GSM/WCDMA auto" in "settings>>network>>mobile netwroks>>network mode" but still no data connection
THESE DIDN'T HELP
1 - using ADB and restarting the phone in bootloader. It was to reset the modem I think. There was a series of 3 commands to follow. i can't remember the details of this method but I think one of the commands included "fastboot erase modemst2". I tried it and I was getting the same error message that other people reported and it didn't go anywhere.
2 - The following solution didn't work either..............
"re-loading IMS settings using the LG Hidden menu: Dial *#546368#*930# using the stock dialer -> Field Test -> IMS Setting -> Test -> Load Preset Configuration -> Initialize Configuration. Then back out twice to Field Test -> IMS Setting -> Test -> Restart IMS process. Give it a few minutes."
3 - Resetting network settings didn't help either (Settings -> General -> Reset -> Network settings reset).
4 - Changing APN, or network bands (in settings ... choosing "LTE/GSM/WCDMA auto" or "GSM/WCDMA auto" or "WCDMA only")
5 - Changing "set preffered network type" in engineering mode settings (accessing using *#*#4636#*#*)
How can I use data connection on my H930DS?
Data modem works now!
SOLVED!
My phone has bootloader unlocked and TWRP revcovery. That's obvious I know but I only say it again in case anyone tries this with a locked bootloader and using a stock rom that has never been flashed. (I have to warn you that your results will be different, your rom will be reset for sure an your data will be wiped).
I tried so many things, flashing up and down from 8 to 10 but Stock Pie was always the least buggy for me so I persevered with that.
I think this solution reset the hardware, but I am no expert.
The solution is basically a "Factory Reset (R&D Only)". They warn you against it but with my configuration all it did was reboot the phone into recovery and then left it for me to decide what to flash or wipe, as per usual. What I only realized later, when I rebooted into system (without changing anything in TWrP) was that it had reset the hardware, or reactivate data connectivity. NowI have 3g data connection and 4g connection.
THE SOLUTION
*the following 4 lines are a direct quote (my phone's os DID NOT reset)
1) Backup everything, as the phone will be wiped. If yours is a network unlocked carrier model, make sure you have an unlock code (or unlock approval if T-Mobile).
2) Remove your Google account to disable Android Device Reset Protection.
3) Dial *#546368#*930# (replace 930 with your model number). This should open the service menu. From there SVC Menu - Factory Reset (R&D Only).
This takes quite a bit longer than normal Factory Reset. Your phone is now TRULY back to factory state.
I took out the sim and sd card before I committed to the reset. But like I said, it didn't wipe anything (maybe it would have wiped my sd card but I am not testing that). It just booted into recovery and when I rebooted into system I found that the data connection was working. Now finally it is a smartphone!

10+ Shows VoLTE Enabled, Still Shows 3G/H+

Handset: Xperia 10+ i3883
Carrier: T-Mobile
Build: lineage_mermaid-userdebug 11 RQ3A.210705.001 eng.root.20210729.214831 dev-keys
Everything on the menu seems to indicate VoLTE is enabled, it also shows it as enabled when I use the # key combination from the dialer to get into the phone maintenance menu.
Right now it shows LTE+ as I am posting this message...
...but the minute I make or receive a phone call it drops to 3G or H+.
Any ideas?
Couldn't seem to resolve this, so for now I used Emma to install stock android 9 and then rooted that with TWRP + Magisk and started deleting bloatware.
