[Q] Sony Xperia ST15i tweaks - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi there,
I am a long time happy user of sony xperia mini st15i, it is perfect for me, i dont want to even think of moving to newer and bigger phone.
I do however want to do some tweaks on it since my phone is no longer under guarantee soo i can root it without fear of losing guarantee. I would like to make my phone snappier. Mainly what i do on my phone is calls, sms, taking pictures and videos. Those last two things concern me most. I would like camera to open faster. A lot faster. Sometimes there is a special moment i would like to take photo of and waiting few seconds for camera to open is usualy to long. Browsing photos is also slower then it was .. and opening some simple apps like light, etc. is slower then it used to be. Apart from what i said i want to keep 2 apps that are very important to me. First is call recorder: i set up a program to record all my calls automaticly and a program that saves all my sms-es once per hour. Apart from speed and battery improvement it would also be great to improve the camera. I take a lot of images and videos and any improvement ( such as better image quality, faster program opening, etc. ) would be great. I wonder if anyone tested the camera on this phone and compared different settings. There are lots of settings but i really dont know which are better then others.
ps: would this tweaks help me:

Anyway point me in the right direction, maybe where to start with the rooting process, what to install, etc.
Thank you in advance

[Q] contact photo quality for cm6 rom

i want to improve this. i've had enough of the pixelated crap
any way to improve this a lot or completely ?
would really like to know if anyone does.
im not saying its only a problem with this rom
its BEEN a problem from day 1
the only thing that fixed it was the setting photos with timescape.
which i no longer have or use.
so any other ways ?

Brillant Corners questions

due to popular demand
so i installed it
and i keep resarting
there is lag from time to time. even honeycomb was faster.
is there a reason why? i did install supplement.
is it possible for ANYONE to make a single install then 2?
also is there a reason why my wifi signal is so low now. Or is it just how the new icon displays it.
first time it restarted was when i was downloading stuff from market.
then when i was playing videos on rock player
and then it completely froze when i was skipping around in a 1080 trailer
btw how come my wallpaers are scaled and cropped in launcher pro and not default launcher. i dont want to use default vega launmcher. just a personal choice. I shall contact launcherpro and see but figured if anyone knew
so i tired putting a different kernal on.
Wifi signal was improved but now drops more frequently.
also was looking into making 1 update for others.
if i just merged both zips. within 7zip would that break sign or would i need to re-sign it?
for 1080. the high profile issue answer that i was given seems to be right. but it still plays. only when i skip around in the vid does it freeze or force close
the lag has gotten better since install rom but seems much slower the non overclocked roms. dont know why.
i have tried wiping data and cache. same results.
well this rom was poorly made. Decided to switch.
I just wonder, if so many people can post hateful comments why they dont put their time to good use. oh well.

[Q] SGS2 slow to close apps - 6secs!!! :(

Hello All,
My girlfriend just got a new Orange SGS2. The phone is great, really slim, fast at playing games, high linpack score etc.
However there is a problem that really bothers me, apps load pretty much instantly however when you press the home button they take ~6 seconds to close!
This happens with even the most basic apps such as the dialler or contacts and is very frustrating as I am sure the SGS2 should be performing better than this. My HTC Desire (and even my old HTC hero to a slightly lesser extent) closes apps pretty much instantly
Hope the gurus of XDA can help with this one.
Many thanks,
hopoffbaby
Okay, the reason your old phone shut them instantly was because it needed to free up resources.
The SGS2 is a far superior phone in terms of spec and as such it doesn't need to shut its apps the moment you hit home.
Android is very capable to say the least when managing its resources so stop watching the task-manager and RAM usage, don't use a task killer and just enjoy life with the SGS2 it'll never struggle.
Mine regularly has 15+ apps running in the background with no noticeable effect on its stunning performance.
Hi,
I think you have misunderstood me. I'm not talking about the kernel killing the apps to free memory, I'm talking about how long it take to return to the home screen after pressing the home (or back) button.
For example, I open the contacts app and it loads instantly. When i click the home button I can count to 6 (slowly) before I am back at the home screen.... It is incredibly annoying and I am sure it is not how Samsung intended??
Thanks again,
hopoffbaby
Should be instant .
You may need to factory reset after backing up data .

Hi,
I was hoping to avoid a factory reset. I have read a few people are having issues (none seem to be as long as 6 seconds though) and that it may be related to the voice control or the touchwiz launcher?
Any thoughts on that?
thanks
Hi,
I toggled the driving mode on and off again and that seems to have go the delay down to around 2 seconds which is a massive improvement, although still not ideal I don't think. What I don't understand however is that the driving mode wasn't on in the first place so why did this make a difference?
Does anyone know what driving mode actually does?
Thanks,
hopoffbaby

Any actually good ICS rom?

Hello there
I'm trying to find an actually good ICS rom for the Sola but im afraid i can't find anything.
The only good i tried so far is FXP but it still has bugs like Notification Led, Soft Buttons backlight, Illumination bar, FM Radio. Except from these and maybe the LCD backlight levels, it's pretty good actually. Very fast and can actually be used daily even with apps running.
On official .54 stock ICS even with ALL bloatware removed, i cant seem to use it daily if i don't restart it at least every 20 hours and if i use more than 2-3 apps and with active threads on background limit more than 2.. It's pretty bad. Even now that i don't really have any apps except EXDialer, Google Talk and Nova launcher, its performance is pathetic. Calls that take ages to answer, sometimes i cant even type a sms message due to lag and well, calling is laggy as hell too. That's with WhatsAPP frozen in my system.. I only unfreeze occasionaly and just for a few minutes to get any messages. Otherwise it makes you wanna break the phone on the wall.
Performance was only good (not just good, it was really great) with FXP and Gingerbread. Maybe before .54 it was better but i don't really remember.
Any ideas?
Thanks friends.
try eXperiance. It's what I use on my sola since January. It has (optional) memory tweaks and a very mild overclock, and the former tweak is rather noticeable over stock ICS.
And yeah, the 2.1 has no bugs at all afaik. All fast, all smooth. Longish boot times, but not that relevant.

Bad performance (mm)

This phone seems very slow to me. I'm pretty disappointed.
- camera opens very slow (takes up to 4seconds!!)
- Switching between apps is very slow
- When im receving phone calls thru LINE the phone is sometimes too slow to handle it and just shows it as missed calls. (didn't have this problem with the z3 compact).
I cleanded up everything, did many LINE cleanups and re-installations. Used different performance enhancement tools. I googled alot but nothing i found really helped to improve the performance.
The MM update didn't change this slow behaviours. I only have a few apps installed and i always close the apps/tasks i don't need. For me it looks that there is
I encyrpted the phone, but i don't think that this sould affect the performace so much.
btw: LINE is crucial for me: )

To speed up the camera there was a tick box to check off somewhere. I think it was something in album if I remember. I just completely got rid of album and the video maker thing that constantly is searching your pics.
To speed up app switching turn off animations and any voice commands or Google search apps that pause for a command.
Also don't close out apps, I've removed the app switcher button for a menu button, there's no need to kill apps in the background on Android. It has to load completely over every time you try to access it.
Disable photo analyzer?
? pretty sure that's the one you're looking for.

It seems to speed up the opening process of the camera app a little bit. But what does it do? Are there any functionality limitations now?

No limitations at all. Unless you use the "Faces" feature in the Album app.
Sent from my E5803 using XDA-Developers mobile app
So, i did now the following:
- unencrypt the phone (needs factory reset wtf)
- deactivated the Photo analyzer
- In developer options: Enabled GPU rendering**
- In developer options: Enabled HW Overlay**
The speed is now better but still very slow for these HW specs. Somehow acceptable, but the battery drain is higher..
