[Q] Moving /data/data folder to external SD? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i've found a bunch of apps that after getting the phone rooted can move games' data to the external SD; FolderMount seems to be the best one and i've been using it- however,it doesn't seem to be able to move any folder inside the /data/data folder! i've done a quick google search and the only relevant result was another link on these forums. Is there any other more simple way to do that? if not,is that thread still relevant?

[Q] Apps2SD question...

I did a search and couldn't find the exact info i was looking for. I possibly didn't put in the right search terms...
Anyways, with App2SD I noticed how it creates the hidden androidsecure folder to store the app data. Now my question is:
When flashing to different Froyo roms and having to do full wipes, when I boot up first time and it pulls all my apps from the market as it syncs, does it put those apps back to that SD card? And if not, when I move them back to the SD card, does it overwrite that apps existing information or does it add a 2nd data storage file? I just want to know if when I'm doing full wipes if I should delete the app data off my SD card before it boots up a first time.
Thanks.

[Q] changed sd cards.. where are the apps?

so the deal here is that i wanted to put a 16gb sd from 8gb that i was using. i had the old sd card (8gb) in my phone, i copied the whole thing on my computer's hard drive. put the new one in my phone, then formatted, then copied back everything from the computer.
Now, i only see 129 apps on the phone out of 285 i used to have. most of the apps i used to have were moved to sd using apps2sd.
i tried searching but i found results regarding how to backup before using new sd, or how to format etc. if i got blind for some reason and have missed the thread can someone please direct me to the right thread? or else can someone please help me that how can i get those apps back?
thanks for any kind of help.
P.S, not rooted.

According to me , you have the hidden files and folder disabled on your PC. So enable it, the from your old sdcard(8gb) copy a folder named ".android_secure" and put it in 16GB, then check again if that worked.

Thanks for reply, will try this..
If you do that you may be subjected to random freezes, lockups, etc. Not saying this for a 100% but usually that's the case. When you install apps and run them certain apps place folders on your sd card that are linked to the app. Also if you move apps to your sd VIA program/mod they are stored in the android_secure folder located on your sd card. When you format, move, alter, etc the folder from the sd or alter the contents inside of the .android_secure folder you remove/break the links, and just dropping the folder back on the SD will work but in most cases it dosent restore the links correctly from my understanding. IMO your best bet is to just uninstall the apps you had moved to your sd and then reinstall them. Also for future reference don't move or alter the
.android_secure folder folder if you have a nandroid that has some of the apps you installed moved to the sd. This is just my understanding. Hope this helps
Edit-as far as how to format your sd or format a new SD read this

use a linux based system to copy the files and folders over...it overtakes the permissions left behind in a windows format

Change Download Folder in Chrome Question

Searched and can't find an answer to this.
Since I have 4g, I have taken to downloading straight to the phone...It's actually faster then my home internet most of the time. But by default, in Chrome and elsewhere, the download folder is on the internal SD card. Then I have to copy it over to the external SD to flash it. Is that necessary? And, if it is, does anyone know how to make the default Downloads folder exist on the external card?
Thanks in advance!
I looked in the past and couldn't find a solution. I don't think there's a way at this time.

You might be able to make a symlink from the internal downloads folder to your SD downloads folder so that Chrome will be redirected to you SD downloads.
I'm not sure how to make a symlink in Android though.
(The /sdcard/ext_sdcard folder is actually a symlink to /sdcard2. You can test it by unmounting your SD card and saving a file to /sdcard/ext_sdcard.)

Something to research, Thanks!
If you're still looking into this I believe this thread may help. It is essentially the same thing just for Google Play Music.

Obviously the locations just need to be changed to your downloads folder and then set to run on boot. Either through init.d or Script Manager.

[Q] changing a storage directory location

I looked around and cannot find the answer to this. I gave my Vibrant to a friend who takes a lot of pictures with it. He has downloaded a few different photo apps and some of them ended up filling the main system storage of the phone with photos. When I looked into it, some of the apps had placed the storage folder under the root directory and not in the Internal Storage or the External SD card. I looked in the apps and they do not have an option to move where the images are stored. The phone is running bionix-v-1.3.1 (just found it to be the most stable for my friend). One of the main apps that is doing this is FxCamera as the storage folder is at: /FxCamera.
So my question is, can I move this folder using symbolic links or another way? I attempted to make a symbolic link but it said I could not create it. I have a feeling I am not mounting correctly or have the wrong symbolic link. (or this just cannot be done). Maybe I should do it via a terminal window but not sure of the commands here as my Linux experience is somewhat limited.
One last note, what I would really like is to get all these photos moved into the DCIM folder on the SD so his Dropbox Upload will automatically upload them.
Thank you for any help!

Nabi2 Apps Store Folder... Where is it?

Hi
When I use our pc to look at our nabi2 through the data cable, I cant find the folder that the apps are located on the sdcard. Also the size of data within the sdcard folder doesnt seem large enough, so Im assuming the nabi2 stores apps in a folder on the internal sdcard that is somehow hidden from view.
Does anyone please know the location (and path) of this folder and also how it can be seen??
Thanks ever so much for any help or reading my post.
Alex
