[Q] What is going on with these apps? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

After I installed the official Lollipop on my S5, two have been acting very strange.
First, XDA Free starts randomly opening ads on start. I'm able to back out of them but it happened every time.
Second, Steam randomly opens when closing any app. It opens in the background by itself.
Uninstalling and reinstalling both apps provide no relief from these weird antics.

You might try going into the settings applications screen for the app and clearing it's data.

Did not work, unfortunately. Both continue to misbehave.

New development: Steam isn't all that random. Its starting along with Gmail when check emails. As long as Gmail is open, Steam will continuously start in the background, even after closing.

Try going to settings - applications - manage applications and clear data for google apps. You'll have to login to your google account again afterwards.

Blazer ROM 1.6 - Exchange Issue - Email messages getting truncated

I'm having a weird issue that I can't quite figure out the cause of. I have my Sprint S3 rooted and have flashed the Blazer ROM 1.6 on it. I haven't had any issues that I know of until now. I have my work email, which is run on a Microsoft Exchange Server, hooked up to my phone. I get notifications fine, emails, invites, etc. However, randomly, emails will not show up in their entirety. It will show 5 or 6 lines of the email and then nothing else. If I forward the email to another account, like my gmail account, the entire email is there.
Has anyone else seen this issue? I have tried searching and can't find anyone else with the issue. I thought at first it was my particular phone, but I returned it and got another S3 and the same thing happens.
Right now I have it back to stock, still rooted, and I'm not seeing the issue. That's what's making me think it might have to do with the Blazer ROM.
Hopefully someone else has come across this issue.
Should be in the Blazer thread not General......
You might try a full wipe and reflash. I have not heard reports of truncated messages.

OK. Sorry about that. I'll repost it there. And I have tried wiping and reflashing. And it's happened to me on both phones that I have had in the past week, which seems weird. I'll get this post moved. Thanks.

Man, it's so odd. I have the email size set to All. And it's not on every email. It's only every now and then. I'm going to try another email app and see if it still happens.

Well, I downloaded Maildroid and am extremely happy with it so far. So long as I don't have problems with it, I think this is going to be my email client of choice. Thanks for the suggestion! :good:

I'm glade you like it as I have been using it for quite sometime now. I like that you can back it up in TB and take it with you from rom to rom. Plus you don't have to lock down your phone, just lock the email application itself.

What exactly do you mean by not having to lock down your phone, just lock the email application itself? You mean securing it so no one can get into your email?

Yes you can just lock the email application itself. And not have to have your phone screen lock

Controlling data of an app?

Is there any particular app which helps in monitoring data usage? I mean, I have loads of apps installed. But I just want Watsaap. I don't want other apps to use data. Is Thr any app which helps to enable just one app to use data? Do help me out!!!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If you go in to Settings-Data Usage and then just scroll down through all the app you have got, pick the app you want to restrict background data for, click on that app, and scroll down to the bottom and you will see a section that says ' Restrict Background Data ' just click that box and problem solved. Do this to all the other app that you have downloaded ( apart from Whatsapp ) and you the apps will then only use data when you are actually using them.
Hope this helps
Actually that's a tiresome task. For a rooted phone I found a better task. Get app called LBE. It creates a firewall. And allows us to do what I wanted very easily. That's if I want only one app to take up my internet. And also lots basically an app which helps us to control the all kinds of permission. Anyways thanks for the reply!!

"An updated version of Facebook is available"...

Hi, I'm not really sure what to do about this screen. I started getting a notification that seems to come from the official app (I long tapped, and checked the notification info), but this "update" apparently needs to be side loaded onto the system instead of installed through the Play Store. Has anyone else gotten this update prompt? I'm not sure what to do here.

I just got it too - very weird. Very suspicious.

i just got that just right now, its very weird...facebook getting hacked???
Now I'm getting a suspicious looking sign in error that is prompting me to sign in with my Google account. Something is definitely spamming me.
i found this on search supposedly explaining it
Facebook pushes Android update to enable silent updates (bypassing the Play Store)
Facebook appears to be doing an end run around the Google by pushing an update to the social network’s open app to Android users today… and the update isn’t coming from the Google Play Store. The Facebook app on your phone downloads the update automatically and then beeps or vibrates incessantly until you install it (or uninstall the app altogether).
So what does the new version of Facebook for Android do?
According to Facebook it lets you change your profile picture using the mobile app, allows you to hide stories and report spam, and start group messages more quickly.
But there’s one other thing the new app does: It allows itself to download future updates without alerting you.
If you look at the permissions required by the app, there’s a new one that says “download files without notification.”
This effectively lets the Facebook app for Android automatically update itself without going through the Google Play Store. It’s not clear exactly why Facebook is taking this step. But once you’re prompted to download the new version of the mobile app the only alternatives appear to be to put up with annoying notifications or remove the Facebook app from your Android device.

[Q] Remove Google Chrome (Beta) Sony homepage?

Hi, Just got myself an Xperia Z2 D6503 and noticed that when ever I open google chrome, it automatically goes to a Sony Xperia Z2 website.
Also, when I close the last tab, it closes the program! Highly annoying when it should simply show a blank screen and let me open bookmarks/new page.
I tried to delete chrome using Titanium Backup, but it reinstalls instantly!
I then attempted to freeze it with Titanium Backup, then installed Chrome Beta, but that does exactly the same thing!
Please help!
I would like Chrome to work exactly as it should in stock form!
Go into the Chrome settings and turn homepage off. Then Chrome behaves how you want it to!

Thanks!
Didn't see that in settings before...oops!
All sorted.
