[Q] More Storage Issues - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I still have yet to fix my issue with storage. For some reason I have no Phone storage left, but almost all of my SD card storage is still empty. I thought that pictures and stuff were supposed to be stored on SD card.. or am I wrong??
Well that is not my major issue at the moment. I am actually having a problem with "write-protection"
I plugged my phone into my PC so that I can move my pictures and videos and stuff over to my SD card...
So i put my device USB Connection as a "camera (PTP)"
I found my photos, moved them to the SD card... and I wanted to delete them from the Phone Storage and when I try to delete a folder or file or anything from Phone Storage, it says "can not delete, the storage is write-protected"...
I have heard of it doing this when trying to delete from SD card... but why is m y phone saying that when I am trying to delete form the Phone Storage??
Can someone please help me out with this? I would appreciate it.. Thanks Guys!!

Which phone do you have? Is it the external sdcard u r talking about?

Enter "restorecon -FR /data/media/0" in the terminal in recovery mode

I hope this answers your question...
Many of the phones doesn't default to storing information to the MicroSD because it provides internal memory and not everyone uses a MicroSD.
There are 1 and/or 2 ways to tell the phone/app to store the information to the MicroSD.
1) Not all but, many apps have an option where you can specify where to store the information (Some of the Verbiage used is MicroSD, External Card, Etc...).
.
2) Many but, not all phones have an option in their settings with an option to use an alternate location where to store the information (Some of the Verbiage used is MicroSD, External Card, Etc...).
Also, there is an app called "Link2SD" that i do use to handle where i can specify where to locate some/all the apps i install (External Storage.MicroSD, ext2 partition, etc...).
Link2SD does take a bit of getting used to on how to use it but, the developer (Bulent Akpinar) has a website that provides helpers.
Just keep in mind that most of the phone's capabilities are not automatic and requires you to do the work. :fingers-crossed:

The major issue was not getting things to store onto my SD card... my issue is the fact that I hooked up my phone to my PC using USB connection... and I am moving stuff from my phone memory to my external SD card... then I wanna delete the stuff from my phone memory, that I moved to my SD card... but it wont let me delete anything... it is saying that the disk is write-protected... (the disk being my phone memory not the SD card)
It wont let me delete anything from myt Phone memory...
so i need to know why it is saying that my phone is write protected and how to change it so i can delete from my phone storage
I have a verizon galaxy s4

& no... I am talking about my Phone storage not the SD card.... when i try to delete from my Phone storage, it says that it is write protected, and wont let me delete anything... ( i am hooked up to my PC using USB)

I had a similar issue and the culprit was the file permissions on the PC.
Maybe on your PC, try right clicking the file/folder of what you want to delete (within the Phone via the PC) and in the property selection, edit the ownership to your PC profile or PC Admin (if you have admin rights).
Just a thought...:fingers-crossed:

Link2SD

My progress so far posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1490116:

If you want app data to be moved to external sd Link2Sd works but with a few extra steps only. Here is how I manage this on mine.
Installed Link2SD on tablet.
Formatted external card (in my case a 32GB microsd in an SD adapter) on my laptop using EASEUS to have to PRIMARY partitions 1st in FAT32 and second in EXT3 formats.
At first Link2SD does not recognise any ext partition present and if I try to recreate mounting script on it telling it EXT3 format it says something like could not do, directory does not exist or similar.
Then after a reboot Link2sd warning pops up saying the sd card was not mounted at boot and therefore the system did not load apps on it. You have an option to recreate a mounting script (which I did not need to do as did it already previously) and the quick reboot option (which is different from the regular reboot in the way that it only restarts the android interface not the whole hardware) - so I do this reboot and after everything starts you can see the extra partition and use it.
So currently quick reboot is needed after every total shutdown of the tablet - thankfully I almost never shut down the tablet completely unless run out of battery completely or some other rare reason or testing like this one.
Also note that quick reboot sometimes gives a close/wait warning just after it is done - I always chose wait and everything seemed ok after that.
Make sure you give Link2sd superuser permission. I decided to leave out Lib out of the app data I link because I noticed that if I move data back to internal storage link2SD shows that libs are unlinked already/ I know there is an option in link2sd to relink libs at boot but I was not able to confirm if it works and they tend to take little space internally anyway.
Regarding extra partition size I tried less than 1GB and ca 14Gb. With bigger than 1GB partition it seems to recognise its size in link2sd but once you move more than 1gb data to it does not reflect the increase above 1gb but still seems to make the apps I moved before and after that work still.
I wonder if multi mount widget could help when combined with link2SD somehow. My guess best solution would be to make android mount external card early in its boot.
Hope it helps

I have not tried EXT2/4 and FAT/32 formats for the second partition - maybe someone could report on that and regarding >1GB data on it. I tried having 3 partitions at the same time FAT32, EXT2 and EXT3 but link2SD did not see any extra partition then.
When experimenting before changing partitions I unlinked apps first in order to not lose the apps and having to reinstall them.

does it work? i mean can we move installed applications to external sd card?
Linksd will link your apps to the SD card, but will occupy some of internal memory space a few kb's ..

oh no. they are not.
i read more forum and info and understood how to do this. you need to use apllication like LINK2SD, it also make games think that they are use usb memory. but in reality they are using SD memory. this program named GSCRIPT.
Sorry for my english.
guys guys, i think we need to work on one thread. We seem to be having two threads that are covering the same problem. two thread one problems aint gonna work.
Would it not be better to gather all information that is relevant to the problem and work together to achieve our aims.
I for one would love this to be sorted but having tried the link2sd and mounting a script within the mnt/sd I believe we need to re group and work this.

I use link2sd in my Htc, because it have only 100mb of internal storage.

I understand what you are saying but the htc and sony are two different beasts. The htc can use the external sd as storage but at present the sony can only use the sd for transfering data and it will not allow game data to be transfered.
THis is not the solution. Do you actually have a sony? If so you will know this being the case.
i installed Link2sd on Sony Tablet S, and it works very good. all programs now on external SD card. also i installed GScript and now all cache for games located on external SD. Also i made that OEM music player and Gallery open all files from SD card without any problem.
and else when i connect Sony Tablet with computer i can also see and use SD cards memory that inserted in tablet.
Are you saying that game data from lets say gameloft goto external sd card?
I have just re tried to install gta and I can confirm the data still goes to internal storage. What gscript did you use?

yes i said that. program name Gscript. there you must add new script and wrote there a way which should make a game think that it still works in internal memory but really it use sd cards memory. script make link to sd card folder.

[Q] Internal Memory(sdcard) not detecting after Cyangenmod

I followed this simple steps
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/...msung-vibrant/
and installed cyanogen mod on my samsung vibrant.
The problem i am facing is that its not detecting my internal 14GB memory.
When i go into clockwork recovery mod, there i am able to mount my memory
and its visible in my pc.
How to make it usable in phone?
I tried with different cyanogenmod rom's nothing make the sdcard (internal memory) detect after phone starts.
One thing is its not cracked, because i am able to access it from recovery when i mount the usb storage using clockworkmod, it displays the contents in computer.
I am confused why this is happening.
Also I was thinking if can i use external SD card to save my camera pictures ?
It does not have camera menu options as storage location.
u just format the sdcard once again in fat32.... partition in pc then again mount sdcard in cwm5.0 n format n do ext4 partition.... after that the phone will detect the 14gb sdcard .............as 7+7 gb .......... in 2 partitions .............keep one for file n other for apps ...........................

How to recover sdcard data?

Hi folks,
I got this 16G sdcard that from one day to another it stopped being recognized saying "blank card or has unsupported file system"
Besides the data, I had some applications installed on it.
I did tried to recover with a software, but even the software only can recognize space is occupied, but can't see it.
Anyone have any possible tip to share?
Thanks
You can try GetDataBack application
Once I accidentally deleted many fotos from my camera sd card.
To recover it i used GetDataBack windows application. With the free version you can search your sd card and see what files it can find. It found all my photos at the time.
But at the moment you press the recover button, it requires you to buy it for 80 dollars :'(
I suggest you to download the GetDataBack FAT version and see if it can find your files.
If it works, then you have to decide if you'll buy it or not. After recovering the files, the file names were all wrong. But at least i got to save my pictures
Hope this helps you.

On Unix/GNU/Linux or whatever you call it, you can press CTRL+H to show hidden files, then there usually appears .recovery or .lost or similar where the deleted files are stored.
If not try this search for a lost data recovery Android app:
google. de/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=recover+deleted+data+android+app&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=xVA-UuWtBom10wWjrIHQBA
Or use one of these Open Source programs:
cgsecurity. org/wiki/PhotoRec
kickassundelete.sourceforge. net
zdnet. com/blog/digitalcameras/how-to-recover-deleted-photos-from-your-sd-card/1102
boards.straightdope. com/sdmb/showthread.php%3Ft%3D395724
Hope this helps a bit.

I bet you it's a Kingston. But you should tell us what it is and what devices you've been using it on, when it failed??
See this: SD Corruption in Xperia Z
The tool to use for recovery, if at all possible, is ZAR 9.2.

Try SD Card Recovery
Recuva!
Recuva is a great option. I've never used it to recover data from an SD card, but I HAVE used it successfully to recover date from my Windows machine when the hard drive crashed and all my data was deleted, and it has the ability to recover SD cards. This product, unlike some of those already suggested that are only free to download and analyze your system, is TOTALLY free.

I think you should try better recovery software like Remo Recover. It may help you to recover your data from SD card if it is not overwritten.
You can easily rescue your SD card data by employing a good SD card recovery utility. One good data recovery tool is there, have a look over it- http://youtu.be/AgRgEvF4HFM
Recuva works great on SD cards as well. I second using this.
I recommend using it over EASEUS Data Recovery. With Recuva it can restore original file name and path and tells you if the file has is in good condition to restore or has been overwritten by other data.

This is a serious problem. I think when you have lost some data from the SD card the only solution is to go to the manufacturer or to the shop where you bought it and ask for repair. There is way to repair the data as I know but you need to be very experienced, so you have to get support.
Have you lost your data from SD card? Do need to worry there is a tool which is known as Remo Recover which can easily assist you to get back data from your SD card.
I will try it. Sandisk provider ingram is not replacing my sd card. Unfortunately i bought it from snapdeal. I didnt got an invoice. Ingram is asking invoice for the replacement. I have the cover and sd card

[Q] Moving Apps to External SD with Android 4.3

Hey!
I'm having trouble using the Android OS to move apps to the external SD card.
I know this is a fairly common problem, and I've Googled it quite a bit, but haven't found a proper answer yet.
I am on a stock, unrooted Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.3.
My phone recently updated from 4.1.2 to 4.3, and with it came the option to move apps to external SD.
I tried moving many apps, upon which my phone states they were transferred successfully, and it reflected the change in the individual app's storage overview.
Observing that my free memory had not increased for the phone's internal memory however, i used ES File Explorer to investigate.
I found that not a single byte had been written to the external SD (with one possible exception, see below), and all files remained on sdCard0, ie. the phone's internal memory.
I also noticed a new "partition" that I haven't seen before the last update, named "emulated", which contained two folders with identical content and size, one named "legacy" and one named "0". They, in turn, are both identical to the sdCard0 "partition", meaning that for some reason, "emulated" displays the exact content of the phone's internal memory in two different folders.
Finally, I noticed that my LOST.dir folder on the external SD card seemed unusually large (9.1 GB!).
I am not positive those files weren't there before the move, but I believe they weren't.
Seing as that folder is for corrupted data, I deleted its content.
Now when I try and launch any of the moved apps I get an error saying it has stopped working.
Allthewhile, the amount stored on the internal and external cards (except for LOST) haven't changed, respectively.
I read this is because the phone mistakes the internal, emulated SD card for the external one, and believes it has moved the files to the external card when it in reality has moved it on the emulated card.
Is this correct?
Does anyone else have this issue?
And most importantly, does anyone know of a way to solve the issue without having to root?
Thanks!
henninkn, have you found the answer yet?
deto here .... i9300 running 4.3 stock
doesn't move apps to SD in one click ( button itself doesn't show up on "moveable app" page ) .. tried all possible apps
in app mgr , it works , app by app ... but no reduction in int memory ... god knows where the app goes
really frustrated !!

Formated microSD in android, cant recovery files even with softwares

My microSD was almost full and I kept takeing pictures with my phone then feel day after I realize that I has noone of photos saved, then when I tried access micro sd a message shown saying that my sd was corrupted.
So I tried to use a small usb adapt with sd in windows and explorer could not show the memory properly to access it and then I realize if I format in android I could then recovery the files in windows after.
I formated to use to share files betwen pc and android, now I tried Ease, Recuva and some others recovery softwares and all of them cant show my old files even with deep scan and using the original microsd-to-sd adaptator. Tried some store apps too, they dont even run in my android.
I did not write upside the files I had but android automatically put a lot of folders inside, no one with much amount of files.
So now I ask, can a diferent software or trick take my old files back? this micro sd is old, I had important files from 2010 there. :crying:
Ive mi a3 with android 9. 16g c16g micro sd
Recovery will depend on if you encrypted the SD or not. If the SD was previously encrypted you will not be able to recover any of the files. That is kind of the point of encryption.
If you did not encrypt the SD and Recuvva failed you may still be able to recover some of the files. I had a similar issue where I knew the deleted files were on the drive and while Recuvva managed to pull a few it was not finding the one that I really needed. This lead me to looking for other recovery programs online. I Googled "apps similar to recuvva". I found a site with 10 programs like recuvva and I found one in that list that worked. I did have to try 3 or 4 to find that one but it not only found the file I needed but it found about a dozen more that I didn't even know I was missing. I would tell you which program it was but I don't remember and I uninstalled it after using it.
Best wishes.

While I have your ear, backup backup backup… I really can't say it enough. I hate to see people on here who've lost memories or important docs because they didn't back them up. Google provides so many ways to backup all for free. Google Drive will backup your docs and files, Google Photos will backup your photos and videos, Gmail Contacts will backup your contacts. Many carriers also provide backup options. Verizon Cloud will essentially backup your device similarly to iTunes. It doesn't backup your game progress and all of that, I think iTunes does, but it will backup your texts, files, settings, contacts and photos.

IMHO it mainly depends on Android SD card's filing system whether there is a chance to recover data after having formatted it. For an Android device, the compatible file system of external storage is FAT32 or exFAT.
To unformat the SD card in Android phone to get back the deleted files, I suggest you to try iBeesoft Data Recovery. It is designed for users to unformat SD card on Android phone specially.
Here are the simple steps for how to use iBeesoft Data Recovery to unformat SD card in Android phone:
Step 1. Install iBeeSoft Data Recovery software on computer
Step 2. Connect your Android device with computer
Step 3. Select "Unformat File Types"
Step 4. Select Formatted SD card to scan
Step 5. Unformat SD card in Android phone
Full guide here.
I've attached Google's USB driver (read: Android Debug Bridge - ADB-client) software for Windows computer.
