For rooting your NK1, just follow the direction in the OP.\
---
1. Take the NK1 OTA update.
2. Download and install Towelroot-v3.apk(this version does not require internet access).
3. Place your phone into "Download Mode" (press and hold the Home, Volume Down, and Power keys until the phone powers on and displays warning screen, then press Volume Up key) and Flash the I545_NC5_Stock_Kernel using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
4. Open Towelroot from your app drawer and press "Make it Rain" to root your device.
5. Power off then boot into "Download Mode" again and flash the I545_NK1_Stock_Kernel also using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
6. Download SuperSU to manage root access. Done!

[Q] Help with Fascinate! Stuck on Recovery Mode Screen

Hey guys,
So today, I updated my firmware on my fascinate to 2.2 and it was being buggy so I thought I would do a factory reset. Being stupid, I didn't do it the normal way and followed this guys' guide: (I can't post a link but search for how to restore samsung fascinate to factory and it's the first link)
I followed his instructions but when I got to applying update.zip, my phone couldn't find the file (update.zip) and now it's just stuck on the recovery mode screen.
What should I do? Bring it into the store, or is there a way i can fix this at home?
Thanks for all the help!
Welcome to XDA forums!
1) Is your phone rooted? (if it is DO NOT take it to the store)
2) Do you care if you lose everything on your phone? (Your contacts will be there)
3) What color is the recovery screen?
You should be able to fix anything on the phone at home as long as you can get into Download Mode.
- yes, my phone is rooted but I haven't really done much with the rooting.
- i don't care if I lose everything
- the recovery screen is black and it has 4 options:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Rebooting gets me to the same screen, applying the update gets me this message:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/vold/179:9
(no such file or directory)
E: Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted
wiping the data/cache seems to work.
If you guys need any more information let me know.
are you familiar with Odin?
if so follow these instructions to get the phone to a good place: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048380
Hey, so I followed all the instructions in that post and I think it worked but now I get this on my screen:
CwM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery v2.5.1.x
- reboot system now
- apply sdcard:update.zip
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- install zip from sdcard
- backup and restore
- mounts and storage
- advanced
- voodoo
What do I do from here?
Go to this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013312
Then pick a ROM. Place the ROM on your SD card. You will have to find a way to get it onto your SD card if you can't through the phone. I suggest you use the CommunityRom since it has a Kernel included with it and you wont have to worry about finding one to download.
Once you have the ROM install zip from SD card and you should be good to go.

If you reboot system now, it will boot, but on the next reboot, it will revert to the stock recovery since you have a stock kernel. You'd need to flash a custom kernel to keep CWM. I'd agree with the odin advice, just get the phone into download mode (power off, remove battery, connect usb while holding vol down and having odin open) then follow the instructions here:

Lol, how did you expect to enter recovery if you didn't flash it?
You need to flash the recovery first
work on getting the recovery flashed before installing custom ROMS. You can opt to choose Clockwork (ROM manager) through market or Amonra.. either ways would be fine.
Then go with the usual flashing after your done with the recovery.
Simplest thing is just go to market.
Search for Rom manager. after install click on it.
Then when it opens press the 1st from the top and you have ClockworkMod.
For flashing the ROM. Find the rom in file explorer or any file manager and click on it, it will prompt for rom manager. click rom manager and wipe dalvik cache and Wipe Data and cache..
No worries ,just install Rom-Manager -> flash clockwork mod recovery.
Then it will notify succesfully flashed clockwork mod recovery..
Try three buttons combo..
It will work .
hoping it will solve your problems.

[Q] Urgently need help: Atrix 4G Stuck on "Dual Core" screen after flashing to CM9

[Q] Urgently need help: Atrix 4G Stuck on "Dual Core" screen after flashing to CM9
My Atrix 4G was stock Gingerbread 2.3.6 on v4.5.141 - rooted and unlocked. I followed the instructions to flash CM 9- following the instructions. I used ROM Manager to make a backup of my stock 2.3.6 and the ClockWorkMod. Things did not work out after I followed the instructions.
Now my phone says, "Unlocked" at the top left and shows the Motorola logo and the dual core technology. Its not bricked- I can still access the Android Recovery menu. I even tried to return the device to default through the Android Recovery menu but that didn't work (its still stuck). I can't find the recovery files either.
Since I have unlocked 2.3.6 - I cannot flash sbf files through RSD without bricking my device. How can I return to my earlier stock configuration? Will I be able to keep root?
Thanks.
Are you saying you cannot flash your backup? Also have you tried to flash a fruitcake in recovery? Rom Manager saves to internal SD try to restore from internal and see if that fixes issue.

How could I flash a backup without actually accessing the application on my phone? What program would I use on my pc to gain access to the backup? I've already wiped the data and factory reset my phone through the Android Recovery menu... would this delete all I can't access my internal SD card from the standard Android Recovery menu.

You can flash your backup through the Android Recovery in the "backup & restore" option (assuming your backup was saved there)
but first via android recovery:
clear data/factory reset
clear cache
advanced>wipe dalvik cache
(that's what I like to do to ensure a clean install of the backup[if such thing exists lol])

Where can I access the backup & restore option?
I think you're talking about another menu. I can't access that menu- when I say Android Recovery, I mean the one that is actually Motorola's. To access it, I hold the power button and lower volume key down, and then find the Android system recovery menu. I get the Android guy and an exclamation point in a triangle, and then hold the up and down volume keys simultaneously. The menu shows the following options:
Android system recovery utility
>reboot system now
>apply update from sdcard
>wipe data/factory reset
>wipe cache partition

I think you have the stock recovery. You need a custom recovery to access to that menu, flash custom roms and do back ups. You can use romracers recovery which is commonly used

-install zip from sdcard
-wide data/factory reset

That's a recovery so access it by holding down the power button and volume down and then on "Android Recovery" push power up. Then you will boot into the recovery, try to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, advanced> wipe dalvik cache then reinstall the CM9 rom. It will probably work this time because you have the right recovery.

Hold the power and volume down button until you see fast boot. Use volume down button to scroll down until recovery shows and then press the volume up button. Then recovery menu should up.

Noob Help! S3 will not reboot after flashing Official firmware

Hello everyone! Would really appreciate your help... I updated my s3 to JB via OTA last month, had issues with slow charging so i decided to flash back to official ICS firmware, specific to my device (Philippines Globe - I9300XXBLHI August build from samfirmware) earlier this week. Did the prescribed process, set my s3 on download mode, used odin v3.07, flashed in PDA. Result at odin was Pass! But my s3 did not reboot. It got stuck in download mode (where it says downloading.. Download bar now is full but it did not auto reset even if the tick box in odin for auto reboot is checked). Tried searching xda, this forum, for a solution, but i couldn't find any.. Can anyone help me? This is as far as my android trouble shooting will go.. Really appreciate your help.. Thank you in advance..
First boot to recovery and factory reset .
Second flash a stock firmware .
jje
thought of that..Tried booting the phone to recovery mode (power + vol up + home) it doesnt work..it goes into a white noise screen, it only boots to download mode..
Any other suggestions? Or alternatives to access recovery mode so i can do a wipe?
go to download mode and flash a firmware

Thats what ive been trying to do..
how about flashing another jelly bean firmware
and then back to ICS
usually factory reset solved that kinda problem

Ok, done! It rebooted and i got this message after "firmware update encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again" with the phone to yellow triangle to pc icon. So i go to kies? Or try recovery mode first?
Tried flashing official ICS for my device via odin after I flashed CF root, the phone reboots but it boots to the "firmware upgrade encountered an issue screen..Tried flashing official JB, same outcome..
Tried accessing recovery mode, volume up+power+home, still same message..I can access download mode though..
Am I getting somewhere? progress??
