[TWRP][Surnia] Moto E 2015 Recovery - E 2015 Original Android Development

I'll keep this short because I'm leaving the computer.. pretty much now.
disclaimer: I didn't break it. Don't blame me.
This is NOT for the 3g model
what works:
display, touch, mounting everything (including sd-ext), adb. charging, temperature, rooting
untested:
flashing, formatting, backup, mounting otg, formatting data to ext4 (I think it will fail though).
looks iffy:
timezone data seems a bit off (by 1 hour, 5 mins), but who cares about that.
I provide you the recovery image. If someone wants to do some instructions, (Please only RC's with the device) then drop me a pm and I'll add you as a contributor.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
# or
fastboot boot recovery.img
This is tested on the GB version of the Moto E 2015. I understand that there is a 3g version of the moto e 2015. I will NOT be supporting this device, and I recommend you do NOT flash this recovery.
recovery images are distributed via the XDA Download system

@cybojenix Any plans of an updated TWRP for the 1st Gen Moto E users? We've been abandoned for long. A last official build from you will suffice for our Lollipop ROMs on Condor.
PS: We've just got official CM, if only you could please provide us a latest official TWRP build now. Just a humble request.

Last time I checked, 5.0 isn't out on my variant.
I'm also probably going to vanish again this week, for personal reasons. So it depends.

flash twrp _ success
install supersu via recovery _ success
install xposed framework _ success
fantastic, thanks again cybojenix
edit: no in fact xposed framework is installed but not working
edit2: **** bootloop , reflash firmware ...
edit3: it's ok now all working even xposed framework but if i have a problem not certain that Xposed-Disabler-Recovery.zip will working

Thanks for your update on the situation.. Considering you're from UK, lollipop will sure take some time to roll out to Moto E. We aren't in a hurry or wanna ask for ETAs, just a humble request that in the future we'll get an official TWRP build updated on TWRP sources. There are some unofficial builds lurking around in the forum with numerous bugs. An official update in the future would ensure hitch free Lollipop custom ROM goodness for our E. We're eternally grateful to you for your work and would hope that one day you would provide an updated build. Thanks, won't be spamming any more this thread and post off topic.

when i tried to use lollipop xposed it slowed my device down and gave me low storage space errors. am i the only one with camera issues when rooted? kinda seems that way. ive since unrooted until a fix comes.
You must have a arm7 model. That's what xposed currently only works on, mine is a gsm LTE arm53.

Yeah you must have the 3g model only? Surprised this recovery works for you. And I tried that app and even some scripts, doesn't work on mine unless I unroot. Must be an issue with my model and SuperSU. Waiting to see if the devs can fix this.

I got an answer on that separately. The app isn't actually officially supported by the TWRP team. The app maintaner has to add new models/builds to the list. Once I found out it was unofficial I just carried on using Flashify, which offers similar, except its list includes our device.
As for the img file thing, you are correct. You either need to convert it (which I did try, and didn't succeed at) or use something like Flashify to flash the img file.
My g901f is encrypted with TWRP 3 in recovery. I can't change kernel. Can't TWRP support encryption?

ok installed via flashify, thanks to the poster who posted this, twrp shame on them for not fixing their documentation.
Now the issue is its still buggy like theunofficial builds.
1 - brightness setting doesnt work
2 - vibrate doesnt work
3 - if dont touch screen for 5 seconds it then freezes for 30 seconds before responds again
4 - device reboots during backup

See the official TWRP page.
I managed to do backups now, so at least it functions now. Will keep this over philz since CM/philz is dead.
and yes I did read the offiical page, it has incorrect info, as it says to use the app which wont work, I used flashify. They need to edit that page to tell people to use flashify and warn some features dont work, thats all.
sorry guys, having trouble keeping track of all my threads. updated the thread and building tars soon.

Can some folks please try this: https://idlekernel.com/twrp/kccat6/twrp-3.0.2-1-b4-kccat6.tar.md5
I've updated f2fs drivers, now using CPE1 kernel sources from Marshmallow.
I've added more partitions to EFS backup, and fixed any possible issues that might be happening during modem/firmware backups.
I also added CM13 hardware qcom encryption support.
And fixed the brightness adjustment hopefully...
Of course I still need someone to report back and let me know if these are actually *fixed*.
I'm still going in blind as it's not a device I own.
Here are the complete changes: https://github.com/jcadduono/androi...mmit/dc77b5ca4fde9148211515d7600776b1b27da1ca
Please also let me know if there are other issues I don't know about!

UPDATED BUILD 24 AUG 2020.
If anyone is still using this device, here is an updated build with the August 2020 Android Security Bulletin & all merged LineageOS changes since October 2017. MAKE SURE YOU FLASH USING THE TWRP IN THE ORIGINAL POST! You can flash over any builds in this thread, the camera still doesn't work and I have no interest in fixing it.

It's nice to see development alive!!!
Hope you could a finally fix the broken camera

Does this fix also apply to the LineageOS 13.x Rom? I need the Front facing camera working, and that works under Marshmellow and not Nougat.
Just wanted to thank you for your hard work and dedication on this ROM project and wish you good luck with the camera as well.
Not that I find the camera on the R1 HD all that useful as it takes pretty lame photos, but the lack of camera is basically the only thing keeping me from ditching Blu software altogether.
I really hope you manage to get a 100% operational LineageOS for the R1 HD.
Yesterday I called Amazon and complained about the software that collected our personal information and data and submitted it to Blu headquarters in China. They said that I could return the phone for a full refund so at this point I am seriously contemplating doing that. The only problem is that I don't have a backup phone.
The lack of resources from MTK based processors is such a deal breaker. I was not aware it would be so difficult to get development going for it when I bought my phone last year.
Now I'm contemplating getting an used phone with better development support after I return my R1 HD.
I really wanted to wait until OnePlus released their new device with a better display and hopefully a near bezel less display and at least IP67 water resistance. That's the reason why I didn't go for the OP5. The upside-down screen was also another one.
If you could get the camera working in LOS than I'd hold on to my R1 HD for a a while longer. But I'm not keeping my hopes up... Just being realistic. Haha!
Thanks again!
Thanks for your support!
As of now, I've been studying the leaked MTK camera sources for other devices and using IDA to see what extra symbols and logic the stock libcameraservice.so and libcamera_client.so has. It appears that replacing these two libs was the key to fixing camera in cm-13 ports.
Thank you!
Oh, I didn't know camera support was fixed for CM 13 on the R1 HD. Maybe I didn't see it here. But I'd much rather have a non Blu version of Android with all security patches even if it's just on marshmallow.
Three days ago I just realized that Blu had a frigging app collecting my personal data and sending it back to China.
It had sent over 5.9MB of data since July 21st. I think it's a lot of data for text only transmissions.
Anyhow, I've been seeing people using Footej on other ROMs in which they could not get the camera working with stock camera app. Is that what you mean by getting the camera to work?

Dang! That's old! I guess devs should be more organized in doing a walk through with links to the files and recoveries needed to flash their awesome work.
Here's mine that I've just uploaded to zippy. I think it's the latest available and should be compatible with all ROMs.
Please report back with your findings and opinions on the ROM.

[RELEASE] F2FS bug fix kernel (Qualcomm)

I patched the kernel for 7.1.1 on Qualcomm Moto E4 Plus. This is useful to get Magisk fully working with modules and settings that can be saved.
I compiled the fix from the released kernel source: MMI-NPR26.58-25
Here are the unsigned boot.img and zImage, use whichever one suits your fancy to patch the kernel.
Download boot.img
Download zImage
Edit: I've uploaded a build for the regular Qualcomm Moto E4 here.
Installation:
You should backup your Boot in TWRP before installing, that way you can restore if something goes wrong.
If you have Magisk installed, you'll want to patch the boot.img using Magisk Manager. Just tap install, and patch boot rom image. Then copy the patched file back to your computer to flash it.
Easiest way is to flash the boot.img while in fastboot:
Code:
>fastboot flash boot /path/to/downloaded/boot.img
Did not work, phone would not boot after flash, had to restore stock kernel.

Hmm, having tried it myself, I see that without patching the image with magisk from inside magisk manager, it seems the rebuilt boot image does not work. But it does work after it's been patched in magisk, so you can try that.
Here's a link that's already been patched with Magisk 14.6 beta: https://drive.google.com/open?id=13vaUgq22fNnVnWqq5ai9kGC1KsO3ZEmJ

If you point me to the kernel source you specifically want patched, I can make it. You'll have to test it for me though, as I don't own the regular E^4.

Thank you very much for taking the time to do this! Especially today. Just to point out how I installed the kernel, I simply flashed it as an img with TWRP, flashed the no dmverity/forceencrypt zip, then flashed Magisk V15.0 that was just released. It stayed on the n/a screen a minute then bootlooped a couple times, but it eventually booted just fine, so be patient with it. I had the latest Boost firmware installed and Magisk v14.6 at the time. Enjoy!

Though the kernel I am currently working on is slightly modified more than what is provided here, the OP only has the fix for the f2fs loopback issue, as described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70492947&postcount=8793
You can download the stock kernel build source from Motorola's own repository here: https://github.com/MotorolaMobilityLLC/kernel-msm/releases/tag/MMI-NPR26.58-25
Also, I admit that I'm currently in the process of porting Lineage 14.1 to this phone, but it may take more time than I had originally planned for. It's not a priority for me at the moment, especially considering how much I like the stock rom.

Well dang, I'm working on porting lineage 14.1 to this thing too. Maybe we should join forces.
And moto's source is in a zip file, I was hoping I could get one that was unzipped and in a github repo already, for easy syncing when trying to build Lineage 14.1
Thank you for your work. I agree that stock isn't too bad with root magisk and Xposed working fine. But lineage is pretty tasty! I will shoot you both a PM if I can assist in any way

I'm not sure if they're still doing updates for this phone from what I've heard, but if they do this would be very nice.

That sucks to hear, but although I do actually like stock on this device, that's why I build custom ROMs. Budget Motorola's never get updated more then a few times. Hopefully it will get added for future devices and ones that don't get abandoned at least.

Hey @SeanStar would it be possible for you to do this on the latest update for the kernel on the E4 Perry please?? The reason being is this one can't be used on the latest update of the firmware, it fails to boot all the way up.
EDIT: The latest is NCQ26.69-56

Considering there is no kernel source for NCQ26.69-56 on MotorolaMobilityLLC github, you're SOL, there's no easy way to patch it without the source. Sorry bud.
EDIT: I wouldn't try to downgrade either, I'm sure they updated the baseband. You'll probably knockout your service if you even try.

You may want to put the download link in the OP so that those using one of the XDA apps can access it easier as there is no download tab in the app.

Yes, calls and text messages seem to work fine, mms as well. I don't have data on the sim I'm using so can't test that. I noticed the last lineage build by ReimuHakurei had sim unlocked it for messages at least but calls wouldnt work. Im assuming calls didnt work because sound didnt work on that build. I had flashed the stock firmware from the unlocked version onto my boost version hoping it would unlock it but it didnt. So far this build everything is working really well

Good to hear. Owens is a great device, I'm glad you now have some stable trees to continue development with. As a matter of fact, I'm in the process of porting another ROM for this here.

Only thing not working for me is videos so far. YouTube will work on the website but not the app. Snapchat videos also aren't playing for me. Sound works but no video. Anyone else having this issue?

Yes, though I'm packing another ROM with it now.
Flash the attached zip to fix it without downloading the new ROM I'm about to upload.

[ROM][H910|H918|LS997|US996|VS995|H990*] UNOFFICIAL Resurrection Remix v6.2.1

DOWNLOAD
NOTICE:
The 8/8/2019 version is currently the latest!
RR stopped updating the framework for Oreo in December 2018. There's no reason to have weekly builds anymore, though I may still create new builds when security updates come through.
I'll create a thread for Pie once the dust settles, so please be patient. If you are itching for Pie right now please support x86cpu and his LOS16 builds!
Actually important stuff:
Update TWRP, older versions may cause problems.
If you're coming from stock, make a backup of your EFS partition. If that gets wiped, then you may have issues connecting to LTE on some devices.
Verizon users (regardless of phone model): You need to make an outgoing call after booting to be registered correctly on their network. Calling your voicemail is an easy way to do this.
H918 users: Versions up to, but not including, 10p are ARB0. 10p+ is ARB1.
YewMinou: This is an app to make a detailed logcat file. If you run into issues, make a log and attach it to your post.
Please do a clean install and wipe cache and dalvik cache after flashing the ROM (TWRP should give you a button to do so once flashing is complete).
Current Issues:
VoLTE and WIFI Calling do not work.
Second screen functionality (for now...).
Standing on the shoulders of giants
This ROM would not be possible without people that have selflessly donated immense amounts of their free time and effort. I'd like to thank:
x86cpu, Rashed97, emdroidle(ehem), Omar-Avelar(oxavelar): For making current, aosp-based ROMs a reality for the v20.
runningnak3d: For making it possible to even flash those ROMs on many variants.
Phoenix591: For maintaining and updating TWRP for the v20.
Zacharee1: For the work being put in to the second screen development.
I'd also like to thank everyone that works on LineageOS and Resurrection Remix!

Since people were basically making threads for this already, I may as well just come out with it.
I only have the US996 model, so all of the builds for the other models are untested. I'll do what I can to make sure those work correctly, but I can't make any promises.
YewMinou is pretty spartan at the moment. When I get some time, I'll add the option to change the save location and make things look a little prettier.
Good job @Blaises I've been running your builds for awhile, and so far they're solid.
Edit: First....

I've just got the first build for the H990 (single SIM) to boot. At first boot attempt, there was a kernel crash as the H990DS has been reported to have. What fixed the booting issue was flashing Gamma Kernel. All good now. Thanks so much for building RR! Such a great ROM!
Update: also, cell, data, wifi and bluetooth all work

You can flash Gamma kernel.
LS997 seems to work, confirmed wifi works at least, but switching the carrier settings to SIM/RIUM causes everything to go haywire. android.phone.com crashes every two seconds or so, and trying to flash the Gamma kernel out of desperation just lead to a bootloop.
Is there a .zip anyone would recommend trying to dirty flash this on top of to preserve carrier settings?
