B&H Store - Z Ultra Discontinued - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

And I just filed my taxes on Friday ?
I was so excited about getting a new C6806.
The white and black colors are discontinued. Purple is still available, but it's purple...
Just a heads up.

It's available from other stores.

Looks like they're available from some 3rd party sellers on Amazon and eBay but at inflated prices. I thought that they were more readily available around $300-350, my apologies. Better snatch that purple one if you need a new one. I got a used one in like new condition on eBay, no problems with it.

I bought the purple one from B&H and it's great. As a guy no one has ever commented on the purple, just the size... To which I shoot them a 'piss off' look and they go away.

Do you prefer the purple over the black look?

I do

You can try either Amazon or eBay.

A little tip, the C6833 is available for $289 brand new from Expansys.com in black, white, and purple. The 6833 receives faster updates than the 6802 & 6806 because it's the international version. They even have a 1 year warranty on them. It'll still work here in the United States on AT&T & T-Mobile. I'm from the Chicago area and T-Mobile gets the best LTE signals hands down. I switched from AT&T for that very reason.
The 6833 is every bit as good as the 6806. Actually these newer builds are much better than the first builds when they 1st came out. You really can't lose. Otherwise, the Z Ultra has been discontinued the release of the Z2 way back in late 2013, 2014 sometime. Plus it received better developer support than the others.

I was originally originally going to get the C6833, but due to poor building penetration (at my job that I work at) with T-Mobile, I had to switch to AT&T (Cricket). Which was why I wanted to get a brand new C6806, since it supports all AT&T and T-Mobile LTE bands. The C6833 only supports T-Mobile LTE bands.

C6833 DOES Support AT&T

I had AT&T LTE Service directly through AT&T GoPhone Service then switched to Straight Talk AT&T. I know for a fact it does support BOTH AT&T & T-Mobile. However, in the Chicago area the T-Mobile LTE signal is way better than the AT&T for me personally.
Having the ability to receive an AT&T LTE connection was one of the main factors when I originally purchased my C6833 otherwise I wouldn't have gone that route at the time. After a whole year of poor LTE connection issues I finally switched to T-mobile. For me it's been one the best decisions I've made other than grabbing 6833.
I may even have a screenshot of the poor AT&T LTE connection taken way back when I was trying to resolve those issues with AT&T Tech Support. If I still have them I post them for you to compare.
Just sayin'

I have a Nexus 4 right now as my main phone, and the C6833 is basically identical to it, in terms of supported bands.
Don't get me wrong, most times, I get "SOME" AT&T LTE with the supported bands. But I know for a fact that the C6833 and Nexus 4 are both missing the 700 band, which is AT&T's major LTE band. The 1700/2100 lte bands are used for uplink/downlink at 21mps when there's low 700 lte band signal, which may be (98% sure) why we both have/had poor AT&T LTE signal /connection.
The C6806 has all supported bands for T-Mobile and AT&T, so my theory is that I SHOULD (in theory) have a way better AT&T LTE Signal/connection with 700 band included.

I'll have to ✔ around 2C if any C6806 R Available
Could be! Now that'd piss me off cuz technically were SUPPOSED to be able to receive a signal @ 700 GHz. I do know that's why the 6806 was chosen for use in the United States.
I've become friends with the guys over at Overseas Electronics in Chicago. They usually get their stock sent from distributors or family from India - I'll ask them if they could still grab a new 6806. If they should be able to do that are you still interested in purchasing one? I don't think at this point they'd want a device lying around the store collecting dust cuz no-one would be interested.
I'm positive it'd be the going rate at $289 or less since it's not an international device. If you think you are hit me up and if need be I'll front the money so you can grab the device you want. Or I could just keep my nose out of your business, I'm just trying to help you.
Let me know, enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Oh yeah dude! Definitely! I'd really appreciate that, thank you! It just sucks knowing that I'm paying $50 for 5 gigs of LTE and I'm only getting half the speeds because of "hardware limitations" lol.
But yeah, I'd definitely be interested in picking up a C6806. If you still have an old or prepaid AT&T sim, maybe you could ask to test one for a few moments to see if a signal connects, just to see if our theory is correct. I still want to buy one regardless ?

[Q] Any AT&T Users?

As the topic states, I'm looking for feedback from anyone with AT&T who has bought an SGSII, mainly where did you get it (I'm looking at Amazon right now, shipping from Worldwide Distributors), how your WiFi is performing (I saw the topic on WiFi issues), and overall how you feel about the device on the AT&T network!
I'm normally REALLY impulsive with phones, but I'm trying to make a very patient and informed decision before I spend $800 on a phone that Amazon describes as having no warranty.

Howdy, I bought mine from Clove (http://www.clove.co.uk) and am very happy with it so far. The WiFi works perfectly for me - haven't had any of the issues others are claiming. For what it's worth as well, for every 1 person that *****es/moans/complains (valid problem or not), there are usually 9 people that are happy as pie... something to always keep in mind.
The device is great and functions very well on A&T. I had a Nexus One before and even though it was AT&T 3G banded, I couldn't leave it on 3G when at my office. I was missing a lot of calls and was forced to put it on Edge.
Prior to getting my SGS2, I picked up an Atrix which didn't have an option to jump down to the Edge network. Yet, the device had no problem maintaining reception in my office. I was worried after the positive experience (and learning that my N1 just had reception issues), that my SGS2 would be forced to live on Edge but it's a champ. I leave it on 3G all the time and don't miss any calls. I think the plastic body actually helps with reception as it's not impeding signal strength. I have a theory that the aluminum body of HTC phones does degrade the signal some. Yes, just my theory, but I noticed it when I had a Desire Z as well (and why I sold it).
So, I know my response got a bit long-winded, but it's a fantastic device. Like everyone says, the build quality is very nice (no creaking, very solid feeling). I too had reservations regarding spending $750 on a device but I couldn't be happier. It's scary going without a warranty but again, you only live once. If the $750 won't kill you, then I say go for it. If it will put you in the red, I'd say hold off.
Lastly, http://www.handtec.co.uk has them as well for a little cheaper and is just as reputable. Clove ships via DHL and I wasn't charged any duty fees (unless they plan to bill me later in the mail).
Mines running great on att with h+ working on demand. absolutely no issues here with wifi. I ordered from handtec the day of release and been using for 3 weeks now. Nothing comes close plus tegra 2 games are starting to work on the sgs2.
I got mine from handtec on the release day as well. I have no issues with wifi, gps, or battery life whatsoever. I'm however experiencing audio player issue since the update and i'm sure it will get addressed. Also i'm in NYC so it would be hard to say how well it's performing but i've hit 6+Mbps downstream once
Buy it from an authorized dealer in the UK and the 2-year global warranty will be intact. Expansys USA will ship the phone back to their UK office on your behalf preserving its warranty. There's been a few hardware issues (screen, internal memory, radio) so if you have a defect when it arrives you'd want to buy it from someone who will work with you.

This is perfect, and Expansys has it for $749.99 instead of the $824.99 that Amazon has it for. The wait time will be longer, but I can hold off on the instant gratification if that means I'll have a warranty. Thanks!

How long did yours take to ship? Expansys says 8 days, but I have the option to do faster shipping...I wonder if the $30 is worth it to have it come quicker. Random question as well: are these phones unbranded, or just UK carrier phones that are unlocked?
Well it's ordered! I went ahead and did the next day shipping, for when it does process, cuz I ended up saving a lot of money getting it through eXpansys. Thanks guys for all the info, now comes the hardest part, the wait!

the international versions: do they automatically access ATT"s top (21M) 4G network, or does ATT have to make that adjustment when branding it???

The phone is capable of HSUPA (4G) so no need to fear! It's represented by H+ for the phones data connection, and it'll switch to it when data is being accessed if you're in a "4G" area.
Got mine today; using it on AT&T in NE suburbs of Atlanta. Ran speedtest.net on UMTS & HSPA; got 212/337kbps down/up on UMTS, but only 133/434 kbps on HSPA. I've seen the H+ icon a couple times, including during the HSPA speedtest, so it looks like we have some HSPA+, which I don't recall seeing on AT&T's coverage maps.
Dude...aren't even good 2G speeds!

Are you sure its Kbps? I get usually around 2.1Mbps d/l and 1.6Mbps u/l speeds on my iPhone 4 on 3G. As someone above said, those are like EDGE speeds! You'd think Atlanta would be a great market for AT&T, seeing as how their Mobility headquarters is located there.
The anticipation behind this phone is killing me, I've never imported a device before, it's so exciting!

Int'l or North American LTE?

I took possession of the Int'l version and it works flawlessly on at&t.
I have to admit I was wrong about the US carriers removing the home button and just messing with the overall look. That is why I did the pre-order in the first place.
I personally would rather have the LTE option vs hspa+ as I really don't need the ph unlocked. But it is nice to have no carrier bloatware....though att allows most to be deleted (expect the One X)
Are those on North American GSM carriers still pre-ordering the Int'l version or canceling your orders?
Looks like one can save around $150 buy purchasing from att maybe a little less in Canada. $549 vs. $694 (expansys)....and have LTE/2 gig ram. Plus the warranty..uh
If you have LTE in your area, it's a no-brainer. Plus you don't have to screw around with third parties for warranty issues, replacements, etc.

Agree. We do have LTE in my area...funny thing is att hasn't even announced it but it is all over the place (i have a att lte ipad).
I will most likely put my device up for sale and pick up att's.
I think the best piece of mind going with the US variant is the replacement/exchange/warranty. Being early adopters of the phone who knows what issues will spring up, it's nice to know we have a good 30 days to just swap it out if anything comes up. Plus past that, I can imagine warranty issues with the Int. variant will be a pita for importers in the US.

I disagree with that. I have LTE and though it would be nice, I would like to travel to Europe next year and it means i need to either buy an HSPA or international phone. If I buy an international phone and use it here in Canada I'm stuck on the old edge network.

Xperia Z Ultra and Canadians

I was going to use the search feature, but it seems to be down right now. My question is whether or not the Xperia Z Ultra will work on Canadian Frequencies - In my case, TELUS/Bell. I've done some research on the 3 models (6802, 6806, 6833) and am pretty confident that the LTE 6833 variant will work on my network for both LTE and HSPA+ but just want to be sure. According to GSMArena it runs on LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600. TELUS and Bell use frequencies 850/1900 GSM and LTE Band 4 (1700). So in theory this phone SHOULD work on our network, right?

Yup, that's exactly what I meant. The HSPA+ version is out which works on both AWS (TELUS/Bell) and regular 850/1900, but I'm more concerned about the LTE frequencies. I did a bit more research and came to the conclusion that the C6833 is the one to use for TELUS/Bell.
Also, if you're going to buy the LTE version, you should check out Clove's pre-order offer. I put my pre-order in a couple days ago and they were offering a free pair of Sony Bluetooth Earbuds with the order. Today they just upped the deal to include the bluetooth earbuds AND Sony Smartwatch 2 at no additional cost. I've never ordered from Clove before, but they are offering the phone at the lowest price that I could find and I can't say no to the Smartwatch 2 or headphones

So in total $940? wow that's a lot, though you do get some cool accessories. Also I would like to know how long did the delivery take from day of shipment.
I am in Toronto on Wind. works great

Ya it is alot but that's how it is for being an early buyer right, and getting 2 free accessories makes it that much easier to swallow.. Shipping took 1 day

Oh true, thanks yeah I pulled the trigger as well on Saturday, they haven't been responding to my emails or have issued me an email saying they dispatched it but I'm assuming that that's' because its the weekend hopefully they don't rip me off lol or it would entirely suck.

4g LTE networks EXPLAINED

I've already preordered my Sony Xperia ZU from atgsm.com
Although it's backordered right now and I have to wait another week for it to arrive, ( SUCKS because I even got FedEx 2 Day Shipping! ): )
I can POSITIVELY and SURELY CONFIRM that:
C6833 Works on all networks INCLUDING 4G LTE for T-Mobile as this uses BAND 4
C6806 Works on all networks INCLUDING 4G LTE for T-Mobile and AT&T
C6802 Works on all networks EXCLUDING 4G LTE
Hope this clears up any confusion. The International version of the Xperia ZU will work on all networks that have 4G LTE as well EXCEPT AT&T'S, presumably because it does not have the supported band. (I cannot confirm but am 99% sure) The North American (US) version will be slightly cheaper by $20-$50 depending where you order it from. The only true benefit of this (besides saving money of course) is the ability to connect to AT&T's 4G LTE network. Other than that, they are both the same. (EXLCUDING C6802 which does NOT support ANY 4G LTE speeds)
If you don't want to wait until after October 14 like me, go ahead and get the international version. Some websites have good deals and you might be able to get it at an equal price OR cheaper compared to the C6806 if you look wisely and do your research.
Personally, the international version is the way to go if you aren't on AT&T's network because if you ever go somewhere outside of the US, you can still use prepaid phone plans or such and access the internet. For such an amazing device coming with a premium price tag, I'd like to be TRULY mobile with my phone!
PLEASE stay tuned as when my Xperia ZU arrives I'll do a live video of me taking off the Anti-Shatter Film as some of you wish to do so. (Same here) I'll also post up some pictures of the cases I have and screen protectors I'll be using (SPIGEN TEMPERED GLASS COMING SEPT. 30!) and various tests (NOT the usual ones you see of benchmarks and such, but rather more interesting ones like size and everyday practical use)
If you guys have any questions just feel free to ask, we're a community here so let's see what valuable knowledge we can offer!

The Z Ultra 2 is going to be unveiled. No, i guess the C6806 is getting released in the US? (i'm not exactly following the US market)

Where can I find used GS5's that aren't TMo banned?

I've tried to grab two (G500T) now and both refuse to connect to T-Mobile unless I'm in their store. The reps figured it was a SIM issue and didn't bother to look up the IMEI. At home I tried my and my wife's sims from a rooted S3 and a rooted Core Prime and I get the same thing.... they won't attach to T-Mobile even though the other phones do.
So when I used TMo's IMEI tool both report as being overdue on accounts. So how are supposedly "Manufacturer refurbs" coming out with this flag? Is there any way to get these G500T's and know before purchase that the IMEI is clean and that it will just work on Tmo?

Am i missing something here... this Amazon post for the G900T even states that the device is only partially usable on TMo. Isn't that the Tmo variant? I mean the two I receieved booted to 4.4.2 or maybe 4.4.4 with the TMo graphinc and Jingle yet wouldn't grab a TMo tower outside of their store.
Add to that if I turned on WiFi calling I was recognized as the correct number and could send and receive calls/sms just fine.

There has been tons and tons of rebranded att devices people are selling as unlocked g900f and g900t devices as att has locked bootloader and nobody wants them. Could be your problem.
I wouldn't trust amazon nor eBay. Try swappa.com 100% and guaranteed to not be black listed

I'll look at swappa... but would AT&T locked ones root and take TMo kernels/ROMs becasue I was able to do exactly that and as stated, in the TMo store, it linked up instantly with full LTE (WiFi off) but outside of the stores reach it wouldn't connect. And again, the phone's IMEI according to TMo's lookup tool (both of them) had outstanding bills associated with them.
Isn't the Amazon link odd in that it is listed as a T but claims partial TMo functionality?
Or you could just buy straight from T-Mobile! I got two for $200 each. They're also eligible for T-Mobile's interest free credit system and come with a 90 day warranty which they will honour even if rooted.

Currently showing $250... a bit high for this model used IMO.
Worth a bit extra for some peace of mind, imo. As the T-Mobile rep I spoke to pointed out, the CPO devices go through an 80 point check which the new phones don't, at least not by TM. Both ours look brand new, and I'm guessing that both the glass & battery, and probably the outer cover too, were replaced. There's a difference between used & CPO. And I'm guessing $250 is less than you paid for the two you bought that you can't use outside the store??

Actually they were $140 apiece via Woot (Amazon subsidiary) and were listed as AT&T and T-Mobile friendly. One wouldn't charge and the other had the bad IMEI. I'd go as high as $200 I think. I'll keep an eye on Swappa and maybe call a TMo rep to see if they'll come down. I'm in no hurry... just getting ready for our next phones. I can't let Shiny get too far ahead or I'll miss out on all of his great work and their derivatives
As I said, when I bought ours they were $200, they'd previously been $250, so you may get lucky if you keep your eye on T-Mobile. I did their interest-free plan, so it's $8/month each, which seems like a hell of a deal now I've seen how good the phone is. Add a $10 wireless charging coil and you've got a phone that's indistinguishable from a $700 current model.

Those are TMo friendly phones, in that you can put a TMo SIM in them and they will work. However, that's not the same as a 900T. I bought a S5 through Woot back in January, and it was described as a 900T and it was a 900T.

It is/was (http://www.woot.com/offers/samsung-galaxy-s5-unlocked-16gb-sd-23) in fact a 900T. It reported as much. I've laid out pretty specifically what the problem was and got confirmation from TMo. The real problem is the resellers putting these phones out there as able to be used when the IMEI clearly reports as a phone in arrears on it's account.
If I had been willing to pay the account that the pay as you go phone had been bought on, it would have started working. TMo had taht IMEI blacklisted.
Maybe they're generic specs, but they don't list the AWS bands for T-Mobile, which is the usual problem with buying phones that may or may not be T-Mobile devices.
Readily admitting that I don't know what you're talking about but the fact that I connected to TMo with full bars when at the Tmo shop but dropped out as soon as I drove away and the fact that the phone is in Tmo's system seems to me to be a fairly clear indication that is was a proper model.
In any case.. got one off of swappa and watching for another in my price range and in a condition I will accept. Thanks all for the comments and pointers.
It's not an indication that it's a proper model. Speaking very generally, an AT&T phone will work on T-Mobile because they're both GSM/LTE phones. However, the GSM bands they use aren't identical. There's some overlap, but in some areas there are bands used on T-Mobile that AT&T phones can't use. What that means in practice is that in some places the AT&T phones won't get a signal on T-Mobile and may use 3G rather than LTE. AWS is GSM 1700/2100. It's the same reason why my T-Mobile phones work in the UK but the data over there is slow.
So in this case when the phone is reporting that knox hadn't been tripped and the phone info claimed to be a 900T is still may be an AT&T?
I just bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MF64PSK/ on Amazon. Clean IMEI and a 90 day money back guarantee. Looks brand new.

Awesome to hear that real ones are out there... seems hit or miss on Amazon. I have gotten full refunds from W00T and now have two "good" condition phones from swappa and am happy with their conditions and the prices paid.

I have really liked what I've purchased from Swappa too, but this time I went with Amazon. I read your post and was worried...I had to check the IMEI!
