AS985 Firmware on VS985 to unlock fm radio - Verizon LG G3

I was wondering is anyone has tried to flash the kdz for the AS985 on the VS985 since they are virually the same phone just the AS985 doesn't have the verizon bloat and has the fm radio enabled
The AS model is for ACG (associated carrier group) which is a US CDMA cellular group with cellcom listed as the primary cellphone company which uses verizon towers so the radios are the same. it is the same phone just without the verizon bloat.
Can anyone send me the KDZ for this phone?

Bump

Bump bump..
Come on guys I'm onto something.. We will have firmware without verizon meddling with it and an fm radio

Flash it and see if you brick.

I'm trying to find it and when I do I will flash it and if all goes well it can be a break through for getting the legit non verizon modified version of android for our phones

assuming the vs985 has the radio chip and it's just not enabled, all that would really be necessary is to figure out the change that needs to be made to turn on the radio.
The Bionic (xt875) for instance had a chip that was totally capable of receiving gsm bands, all it took was figuring out some firmware radio edits to enable it, and some APN changes. After that you could pop in a tmobile sim card and be up and running on tmobile instead of verizon. This may be a similar situation. Flashing the entire rom sounds dangerous, but you may be able to pull and flash just the bits you need to get the radio to work.
Step one would be determining that there is even an fm radio in the to enable. Haven't foudn much for teardowns of this device, but if you find one take a close look at all the chips and look them up.

This has nothing to do with gsm.. Our VS985 is already gsm enabled. I know this because I had a Net10 AT&T SIM in my phone and it worked just fine but then I switched to Net10 Verizon because AT&T has terrible service. Anyways all smarphones have an fm radio chip in them it's just the carriers except sprint disable them. That way you have to use your data to listen to music which runs your data down fast causeing overages and more money going to the carriers.

I'm trying to make it so we have more freedom when it comes to OUR devices

There is an fm radio chip on the Verizon phone. Debate if actually powered or antenna is connected. No one's managed to turn it on yet, and it's been looked at by a couple of developers. Firmware might be needed - the right firmware and configuration files could be present, but I don't know for sure how similar the two phones are. If the partitions are different, for example, the kdz will almost certainly fry your phone. I do believe the devs can extract from a kdz and take a look though. Or an image dump.

I know that.
It was an example of an instance (hence the words "for instance")where a disabled function was re-enabled.
This was done by using the leaked motorola radiocomm tools to edit a single 16 digit item in the NV of the radio firmware, which was later refined down to a simple flashable zip file
I'm trying to help you, don't be daft.

I'm never rooting for someone to brick their phone......but maybe sometimes it's the best thing that could happen. So by all means if you can even get lg flash tool to flash an incorrect kdz on your phone, please do. But make sure you report back so we know how it went.

Ok I get what your saying but without the AS985 firmware we don't have the code to work with plus I am not only trying to get the radio working but also a boot loader that has fastboot included with it. Since verizon didn't modify this variant it should still have the fastboot in the boot loader. In other words this is a unVERIZONfied version of our phone

That didn't say anything about partition set up, specific radio chips, etc. They may be very similar. If we could get a fastboot that would be great though, plus maybe some if the extra ROM features Verizon removed, Plus maybe the fm radio...

Nice one
Anyone
Anyone know something about it?
im pretty sure its not hard coded anywhere. its software related. other wise phones couldnt be cloned and used without major hardware work. i guessing its in the radio somewhere.

Just found it on mine, but not sure where you would go to find it though, depending on what ROM your running. I'm running CleanROM DE 2.0 and I went in to the app ROM tweaks then down to Misc options and hit the phone info button. That is where I found mine. This process led me to the Hidden HTC phone diagnostics screen.
Edit: Try this......................
Dial *#*#INFO#*#* then push on phone information.
Walla, you should be able to find what your looking for
Not sure on what epst.apk you would need to do this. I'm currently using an older evo 4g epst.
Jd
Just goto Menu/settings/about phone/Phone Identity
Shows up as MEID
I know how to read the IMEI! I need something else
People, i know how to see my IMEI, i am asking about the location where the stored. (One thime wriтe chip or something similarly)

Since it survives through wipes and flashes it is probably low level stuff, low level as in radio and what not. Dangerous area.

I found on Samsung phones, the IMEI is located in file /efs/nv_data.bin But where is it on HTC phones???
I found it. IMEI is located in four diferent files, three of them are located at three diferent locations. I will post a tutorial how to fix IMEI, but i need your opinion about it, because it can be used for ilegal stuff!

yes but all these files can be erased. it is being placed in these files after being read from the radio more than likely.

[Q] Rooted Evo3d Number Change help

Alright my dad has a rooted e3d and for whatever reason he called sprint to get his number changed, not even thinking about his root, and they couldn't get it to work. so we thought it may be due to his root, and we unrooted the phone. Called back and still couldn't get it to work, went through all the trouble shooting and then were told we need to bring it back to sprint.
So has anyone else went through changing there number on a rooted device and maybe know more than I do, or have any insight on the situation?

Is he using a sense rom or a AOSP rom?
I would throw a stock sense rom back on it. Due to the programming codes and numbers you will need which you use in the dialar. You need to have a sense rom going stock at best.
Also what hboot is he 1.5 or older?

Hey Reaper,
As you recall I had a similar-ish problem yesterday that we were tlaking about. Looks like they took my thread down...i searched for it but didn't find it...oh well...
anyways, Is there anyway for sprint to change my esn to give me a clean one now rather than the cloned one that i have? or am i basically stuck with a brick...I tried contacting the guy i got the phone from and he said he'd try to either refund or replace by the end of the week...but its craigslist and i'm not confident i'll ever hear from him again you know?

oh also, sorry for double posting, but the guy said some customer had done this to the phone and he didn't even know what i wa talking about really. for what its worth he sounded genuine that he thought he had sold a fully functional phone.
is there anyway for me (and by extension sprint) to find out in reality what happened to the phone? i've rooted a phone before to cyanogenmod but never did anything funky like this. it worked immediately with my correct phone number.

Here is an answer with some technical details, hopefully it helps.
Having root access in and of itself will not have any impact on the ability to program/reprogram/activate the device.
Essentially on the HTC EVO 3D, Sprint installs a custom program which HTC allows to communicate directly with the radio. The radio, generally speaking, is what manages the phone number programming information. In order to change this information, there has to be an android application front end to access the deep down radio layer. This application, usually called EPST.apk on sprint android devices is always included and works with stock sense ROM and kernel.
When people start altering stock ROMs and producing AOSP based ROMs, they generally don't provide support for this application and the low layer radio communications required.
Hence why the best method is to load 100% stock system and kernel (sometimes using the slang term ROM) which will include the correct communcation paths and both front/back applications/routes for the user to correctly program the phone number, etc for activation or reprogramming.

Not really related to this thread but I'll throw in my two cents in hopes that it helps. Seems you're hinting that your current device has a bad ESN and it is currently using a cloned ESN.
Generally, this type of manipulation is frowned upon and is a large gray legal area in the US. information regarding this will be more difficult to find. If a store sold you a device with a bad ESN or "cloned" ESN meaning a copy of another known good device ESN w/o telling you, this is generally misleading and should be grounds for a refund/exchange.
Given this is a private transaction off craigslist where there is no review/feedback/mediation method, such as Ebay provides, you are generally at the mercy of the seller.
One route would be to talk with Sprint. Not sure if anybody has tried this or the end result, but you could def present the argument you purchased this device used and are very excited to activate it on Sprint but are unable to due to the previous owner's history with Sprint. Perhaps they would be willing to clear the ESN and allow you to use the device.
Otherwise, you're stuck restoring to gray/shady areas of manipulating how the device registers itself on the Sprint network .. in my personal opinion this is not worth the hassle. If you really want to keep the device, I'd loook into 3rd party carriers such as boot mobile, or whatever is available in your area for CDMA devices as they are generally more willing to modify the device to work on their network.
Hope I was able to understand the limited information provided and my feedback/suggestions help!

Perhaps.
EPST is only the front end, there are a few other pieces which are required for EPST to successfully connect through the OS to the lower level radio.
Best route as stated above is to go 100% stock kernel and system as these are known to have all required pieces in working condition. Good luck!

[Q] Interesting Photon Perk

Sorry if this has already been covered, but the only thread I could find on point was in the archive.
I recently bought a Photon for Sprint on ebay with the idea of reselling it. The phone was running 2.35 and I used Photon-torpedo to root it, which worked just fine. Today, on a whim, I popped my sim chip from my AT&T Atrix 4g into it, to see if it would work. It did. And, with a little bit of tweaking of the settings, I was able to get 4g data to run. (I set Network Mode to "Automatic", and enabled the checkbox to Allow GSM was all). Then, to take it further, I was able to start Mobile Hotspot, which I'd had to "disable" the device check on line 118 in my Atrix to get to do the same thing.
So, my question is a little noobish: Is my Photon carrier unlocked somehow, perhaps by Photon-Torpedo? Am I going to get slammed by AT&T for some sort of bizarre roaming charge? Anyone know why this worked?
nice, what baseband does it have and does it say unlock when you first boot up phone?
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
I don't think its unlocked as it doesn't say unlocked when it boots up and behaves like it still thinks its a Sprint phone. Google Play store also treats it as a Sprint phone. The baseband is n_01.29.08_GSM

you say it works just fine on the AT&T network? interesting. are you outside of the US? that's the only way it would work out of the box like that. i would like to hear more about this!
No, I am not outside the US. I am in Seattle, and we have nost of the big carriers here, (Sprint, Verizon, AT&T), so it is as much a surprise to me as to you.
I've been using this phone for about 3 days now on AT&T, and it's been working as well as my Atrix 4g by all appearances.
If there's any info I can provide let me know. I'd love to figure this out.

i'm 2 hours away from you haha. small world. well your baseband is very unusual! so i think you may have a special phone on your hands that some devs would love to have. i do have a couple questions. where did the phone come from? someone inside the US? if it came from another non-US carrier it would make sense. as a japanese version known as KDDI has the same phone but unlocked GSM for the US. perhaps you can pull me the build.prop file from the system folder and post on here as a zip or text file. (otherwise xda won't allow the upload) then we can see just a little more info on the device and what carrier it might have come from originally.
you're baseband is unique. photons latest baseband is n_01.28.07r. previous ones have been N_01.28.0Xs.fk, X=random character
This phone was a eBay purchase and sent from Fort Lauderdale Florida. It was listed as a Sprint phone, and the only information that was in the ebay listing was that she had changed carriers after having it for 6 months and had to get another phone. I will post the build prop late tonight when I have more time.

you can use bootstrap here,
http://files.acsyndicate.net/pub/users/Steve/MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk
or you can use the one listed in the previous post. or you can unlock and install a custom recovery. however i'd be careful with unlocking because flashing the wrong thing can put your phone back to a standard photon with locked GSM making it somewhat unusable for GSM again. so i wouldn't recommend an unlock at this time.
top tip: don't flash an SBF file whatever you do!
installing and using bootstrap:
Installation:
Download the recovery file
Mount your device to USB
Put the .apk on your device
Unplug your device
Navigate to the file explorer, install “Bootstrap_signed.apk”
When the installation completes, run the application
Click “Install Recovery”
Accept the Superuser request
Click “Install Recovery” again for good measure
After success, plug your Photon 4G into the wall adapter
Verify that your phone is charging from the wall
Press “Recovery Mode”
Your device will now slowly reboot into Tenfar’s CWM Recovery
*note: you do need to have your phone plugged in to get into "recovery" mode.
then do a backup

The last I heard about that was in halfevildruids thread. Na7q posted a CWM flashable zip based on the magical photon. You can find the post here
As far as I know, this hasn't worked for any other phone, (the Magical Photon seems to be completely unique). I think halfevildruid also opined that there could be a binary switch in the magical photon that might be found, but as far as I know nobody is working on it.
What would be really nice to have is the Magical Photon's radio. Unfortunately, its not that easy to get. The plan is to extract it when a new OTA update comes out. But unless a new method surfaces to extract the radio, we'll have to wait for that.
In the meantime, I'm keeping the Magical Photon as close to "pure to stock" as I can to give the devs here the best material to work with if it's ever needed.
Hope that answers your questions.

The ota would need to be GSM capable to have what we are looking for.
If you guys get me the stock locked and the magical one's nv dump I will start going through it. I have the 2.3.5 leak and kddi dumps again. If its in the nvm I will find it if I can get hold of that phone. If not I can scan for differences between the two nvf's. I am busy opening a wireless repair shop to open in 2 weeks so I am not doing a lot until that is open.

$100 towards getting you that phone
or
$200 and I'm done deving/hosting this year
or
trade+$ (if JohnH4 will go for it) and you walk me through the nv dump (until we get 2.3.5 unlock this will kill both my atrix and photon deving til that time)
I'll match your 100 or offer up a shiny white 1 month new white HTC vivid straight across if john is interested in an at&t phone. No ones got a chance of getting their paws on my one x though.

If anyone can tell me the location of the nvm file, I would be glad to pull it. Will the pull command in adb do the trick?

CM11 issues on SHV-E300

I am developing CM11 for the Korean models of the S4. Right now I am currently running the build I just compiled. Here is a list of what is not working:
USB Storage : no /emulated/0/sdcard error when trying to mount or download anything not from play store.
Video Camera
Camera takes blank pictures : believe this is because of the storage issue
No sound : we use the yamaha chipset
Can't make or receive calls
I am trying to figure out how to fix the USB storage bug on my end but I think I am at a loss. As for the other issues, I think that just might be the kernel side of things, but not for sure. Can someone help me out with a little advice for some of these issues? Thanks.
Edit: I forgot to add that with not being able to make or receive calls, I do have data (2g, 3g, and LTE). So I really don't know what is going on.
Okay, so now I have everything working except for the making/receiving phone calls and the sound. Is there anyone that might could help me with this?? I really don't know what I am doing when it comes to the kernel and getting things like that working. I know that on the native touch wiz system that my CBD file is located under the root dir under sbin, but on the CM version I have to put it in the system/bin folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Seems like I am asking the wrong question
Okay, since it seems like the wrong question is being answered here. Here is the correct way to ask this. While working with the kernel, how do I know what modules I need for audio, signal and everything else to work with Cyanogenmod??
Sorry, just saw this - is that a Exynos or QC variant?

It is a exynos varient with yamaha audio. It is also LTE. Thank you for any advice you might can give.

If you're still having issues, I would check your device tree against this:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_samsung_i9500
and vendor blobs against this:
https://github.com/TheMuppets/proprietary_vendor_samsung/tree/cm-11.0/i9500
From what I've been reading the SHV-E300 is a i9500 variant so they should be nearly identical.
You should be able to use that device tree and the kernel referred as a comparison.
The list of proprietary files in device tree should also help make sure you grabbed everything off of the stock ROM that you need.
Good luck! Hope this helps you straighten out the remaining issues!

Thank you for the advice, but I have already been using parts of the I9500 to get to where I now. I just completed another build last night after playing around with the ramdisk but it wouldn't boot. LOL ... I still don't have sound or calling. I know that with the SGS2, they don't have an audio folder in their device tree for the Yamaha audio. I don't know if I need one or not since I cannot find any lib file or driver that corresponds to audio. My question though is that I did find a file that has the same layout as the es325_fw.bin file that the I9500 uses. I can't remember the name of it right now, but it is filename_fw.bin. Do you think that could be my audio? As far as calling goes, I know that on the stock firmware, the pda and the baseband both have to be the same in order to make or receive calls, so how am I supposed to do that one for CM??
@garwynn .. I just built another aplha build, and I just realized I can't get the usb mass storage to show up when the phone is connected to the computer. Any advice for that??

Any of those .bin files that you think are missing in the blobs.... I'm of the opinion that you can throw them in and test adding/removing one at a time to see if it changes. The logcat may also help give clues as to what is going on.
USB storage = check your build.prop and see what options you have set for USB. you could also edit your usb script to force usb mass storage.
I need to check on the firmware question. I though this wasn't the case, you just need a valid fingerprint and ROM doesn't have to match baseband. Is it possible that some of the RIL blobs may be missing?
I just compiled another build. I made sure that the build fingerprint was exactly like it should be. When I installed CM11, I went to about phone and it showed that my fingerprint was KVT49L and not the KOH49T that I had set it to. It kept telling me to insert sim again, which I think I may have fixed. As far as the sound goes, I went through all the bin files and looked them up on google. They all pertained to video and not audio. Inside my stock system, there is a ysounds.xml with a reference to etc/ymc/param. Here is a pastbin of the ysounds.xml file if you wouldn't mind looking at it and letting me know what you think.
YSOUNDS.XML
I have never developed for a high end device before, so this is none the less getting really interesting and fun. LOL.
When looking through the file, it looks almost exactly like the mixers_path of I9500.
New build with audio changes in my device/audio folder caused the system not to Boot. It got to the cm loading screen and there it stayed. Any ideas??

Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk
Nope. Adb sets on waiting for device for about 5 minutes and then says no devices available.
@garwynn , I just got a new build. I have the correct fingerprint and it is still ending the call as soon as I dial the number. I tried using the yumc files that I had found that were on the phone, but still no sound. I am going to try to add the other files like the ysound and the files it references to the build as well to get sound, but I don't know. It is worth a shot I reckon. LOL. Also, I looked in the build.prop file and there is nothing in there about usb or storage. So I don't know what is going on with that one. I am going to check more on it and see what is going on. Do you have any more advice that you might can give? I don't know if I have said this before, but this is the first time that I have developed for a high end device so this is proving to be a challenge. LOL. Thank you again.

None as of late I am afraid. I havent had much time to work on things. My system had crashed so I had to get back to where I was. Lol. I did however get the storage bug fixed, the mic can hear things but still cannot transmit sound. It is a pita working with this stupid yamaha dac. Hopefully soon though.

Isn't the Yamaha DAC the same as in the lte-a models? (E330K/S) -They have roms for that model, so maybe you could try pulling them from there
also, there's a patch for MIUI that I found here: http://opnay.tistory.com/23 that has working audio I think, but you can't end calls.

Sadly its not. The e330 models use the qualcomm and wolfson chips. It sucks but I think I know where the hickup is. Just have to learn more about the kernel to fix it. When I go to build, it tells me that there are uninitialized modules for the kernel and to recompile the kernel with the modules enabled. So when I have time I will delve into that.
As far as that pitch goes, I looked into it and it was 4.3 so that would lead to a dead end. Also it was specific to MIUI. I am trying to ask for help from seasoned developers but never get an answer back from most of them. Only a couple have given me advice. Lol. So if you know if anyone that would like to help, just have them pm me . thanks.

The guys at Dokdo Project have working sound! but no phone calls as of yet. They seem pretty slow to update, I'm checking out their blogs, but still a no go as of yet.
It's all in korean, but if you want to give them a shot:

---------- Post added at 02:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:33 PM ----------
just another quick tip: Apparently in Korea they have usim (simcard) locks that prevent other models from calling,
You have to manually change the build.prop and change the ro.product.model= to whatever your model is, in my case:
ro.product.model=SHV-E300K
also, I think this might apply to other places in the build.prop as well, but haven't been able to go that far.

Success! 5G Working on DEMO LG Wing.

So I was able to successfully get the DEMO LG Wing I bought off of ebay. (Model LMF101V) Flashed. And despite being told these didn't even have a modem in them, I am able to get 5G with a Tmobile SIM now. *I believe these were originally Verizon demo's, but I am not sure. I am missing storage, which I have seen was a problem with other LG demo models. However it appears the SD card is working, so this is not a huge deal to me. (It registers 8GB instead of 256GB) I know the storage is actually there, because prior to flashing, I was able to access and use it in the demo mode.
I was wondering if anyone could help me get the biometrics working? The hardware is present and the phone does detect a fingerprint reader, but when trying to use it, it never registers any finger prints. *It does not accept or reject, the screen changes to indicate my finger is touching the glass, but nothing happens as far as registering my fingerprint goes, it just does nothing. I do not yet know if the 50% charging limitiation is still in place or not, I will update when I find out. I am assuming this is no longer an issue.
Not bad for $180 now that it has service. I accomplished this by making my own modifications to LGUP, I will be honest, I am a newbie when it comes to this stuff. So I was poking around and changed a few things here, a few things there, and I could not tell you specifically what I did that made this work. The phone still does not show me an IMEI number. (Just a 0 in place of it.) I dont want to break the rules regarding changing IMEI's, but since this would be more like restoring the IMEI, maybe the mods will allow us to discuss potential fixes to that issue.
Interesting this demo unit. What is the firmware showing in the system menu? Could you update to any newer firmware? Or could you unlock the bootloader / flash another official fimware?

Modified LGUP - Chip Erase was the only option that would do anything at all. So I first flashed a Verizon ROM and then a Tmobile ROM. Both lifted all all the limitations placed on the device. The only thing that did not work was the fingerprint sensor, but its there... so there has got to be a way. That and it wont show an IMEI number at all after that. Yet at least with Tmobile, that doesnt appear to matter.
Please direct me to the steps or page that will explain how to do what you did to remove this demo crap. Thanks in advance.

There isn't one. I figured this out on my own.
Have you played with a Velvet 5g? I just got a retail mode one.
I got ahold of 2 V60 demo units. I believe they are the Verizon ones? Anyhow i removed demo limitations to allow use of the device again, battery is at 50% llke most, and its supposedly missing the modem as i cannot get any information in Phone Information for the cellular bands etc.. It would be nice however to get them working IF they are present.
I don't see how your velvet has the modems unless perhaps it was specific verizon ones which these devices were rumored to have the ability of a full device (modem and everything else) once flashed to different firmware.
If you could walk back through what you do (i know im guilty myself of forgetting to write things down) and try to remember exactly what all you did this would help a lot on these demo units. I see a people wanting to convert them more these days since the phones are getting more hi tech. 5-7 years ago and so you could covert these,, Before that demo phones.. well they were all real. Was never an issue getting them cheap and no need for converting.. Wish it was like that today!
Any updates on this? Local used phone stores want $450 starting, I see a handful on eBay for anywhere from $120+, non-demo ones average around $350+. I'd like to get one that's unlocked (currently on Sprint/TMobile) but likely gonna be switching to AT&T. I see a lot of phones that say unlocked but I don't know if they're truly unlocked and/or how to do it myself if they're in fact not unlocked. 10+yrs ago I used to bake my own ROM's and whatnot but nowadays it feels like Spanish to me so I don't wanna buy the wrong phone and have it not work (demo issues) or not be able to easily switch providers.

Is there any chance you could share what you did to get this working? I've been trying to flash stock firmware to my Wing but haven't had any success. All of my attempts have either caused LGUP to crash, fail, or "successfully" flash but never actually do anything to the phone.

I personally cant wait until firehose comes out for the lg velvet. I have a few of those. They work great on att 5g. Almost feels exactly like my s20 ultra in my hand. Too bad lg stopped making phones.
Terminal version worked perfectly! The korean firmware works and seems to be fully functional, although I will have to do more testing. I may try flashing US carrier firmware at some point if it's compatible (probably T-Mobile as I use that), but for now this is fine.
Been using the phone for a few days now. It's largely been fine, however the fingerprint sensor doesn't seem to work as the OP mentioned. Still, if anyone has a demo device, it's much better then using the gimped firmware it comes with.

Tried without downgrading the firmware (if that's even possible- I don't think the Wing came with Android 9). ( #*462633*#100# ) got me into the service menu, did the fingerprint test and now it recognizes me putting my finger against the sensor, but tells me "Cover the entire sensor with your finger" every time.
Edit: To be clear, I'm using the latest Korean firmware. I'm not sure if downgrading it would work, since as far as I know it's all Android 10.
