Hey chico260, I have been searching net for a custom kernel to put in my deodex rom. I even pulled windows off my PC and installed Ubuntu Linux, to try and write a custom kernel. But I need to do some reading, I get lost on the commands in Linux. If you can find a kernel that is compatible with a note 3 and a Qualcomm cpu let me know. BTW left you a post over at NK4 deodex. Oh almost forgot, yes you can flash a custom kernel on a stock NK4, needs to be 4.4.4 compatible, set up for Sprint, and Qualcomm cpu.

Flashed Using Odin, Want to Install JB... Now what?

So real quick....
I rooted my phone with ODIN last night, so I'm still running AT&T Rom and Stock 3e. I am trying to get JB installed but don't know where to go from here. I need to get Clockwork Recovery right? If so, how can I get that on my phone? I did read I should not used ROM MANAGER!
Sorry for the stupidity! I got JB on my last Galaxy before it broke I'm just confused because I did it a different was last time. Thanks for the help!
just flash a custom kernel with ODIN. That'll give you CWM recovery. then you can flash whatever you want.

Ok, is Odin 1.85 sufficient (or is there a newer one) and then can I just flash it with Siyah 4.1.4?
IDK much about Odin. But if it worked for ya the first time it should be good.
for the kernel, you must find one in a format Odin uses and not in the normal .zip which requires CWM recovery to flash.
Right now .tar is the only one that comes to mind for Odin.

I would flash a kernel that is compatible with whatever ROM you have currently. Then flash a JB ROM from CWM . Flash Siyah after you have JB if that is the kernel you want. I think you would get boot looped if kernel and ROM are mismatched.

Okay cool. I know this might be asking a lot but can you just link to me a Kernel that will work with the ROM I have? It's still the AT&T Stock Rom 2.3.4 with Baseband I777UCKH7 and Kernel 2.6.35.7.

Take a look at the guide which is the top link in my signature. It will give you a little more detail on what you want to do, and has links to the available Gingerbread kernels.

the only point in flashing a kernel compatible with a ROM, would be if you wanted to boot into the ROM.
Yes, flashing a kernel meant for a different version will most likely bootloop.
You can flash any kernel you want if you have no intentions on booting the system.
Recovery inside the kernel has nothing to do with what ROM your running. Will always be able to boot into recovery. Or **** broke
I give you lots of credit for reading not to use rom manager!

If you use Mobile Odin you can flash a custom kernel that will install CWM and then flash a custom ROM with CWM. I do this so I do not mess with the flash counter.

It sounds like you're taking the same route I did to root my phone. I first flashed a rooted, stock ICS ROM, then I flashed the Siyah kernel using Mobile Odin, then I eventually went on to flash a JB ROM (SuperNexus) using Mobile Odin. I'm sure I could have skipped that step of flashing Siyah because SuperNexus flashes a CM kernel anyway, but I kinda didn't know what I was doing.

[Q] Kernel on stock rom

Can i flash a kernel on my stock rom ICS ? (i am using Live with walkman)
while installing a custom rom from the developers community can i install it on my stock kernel, is it neccesary to change the kernel ?
thanks for the help in advance
Yes you can install a kernel for stock ICS, just check out development section
And yes it's necessary to change if it's another android version or if the developer tells you in his thread to use a specific kernel
Sent from my Nexus 7 running Android 4.2.2

There are custom roms for locked bootloader (no need to flash a kernel) and there are roms for unlocked bootloader (you need to flash a kernel)

i9100 Rooted but no CWM

Hello everyone, greeting from Turkey!
First of all im a newbie for android rooting and romming etc. I ve always used stock roms since ive got this phone. Now Im running a I9100 (int.) with stock Turkish 4.1.2 (XXLS8) on it and i ve rooted it via superuser.zip with my stock recovery.
What i want to do is to install CWM and want to flash a RELIABLE and Long Battery life rom. Are there anyways for me to install a CWM without using odin (via stock recovery). And can you please suggest me a good rom for daily usage. (i want to use vanilla android btw [just like nexus]).
Thank you for your helps.
I don't know much about roms/kernels for the international version, but you will need to flash a stock kernel with cwm and then just choose a rom from your development thread and follow the instructions, don't forget making backups and reading a lot, you can start from flashing cyanogenmod.

As i said i dont know about international version kernels, but it should have a tag like "stock kernel" or something like that if its for stock, just install it and you will have cwm, if its not stock it wont be installed anyway.

[xxu1ank5]n910f[prerooted]

Hi all,
Here you got Prerooted stock rom that might be useful for those wanting the latest stock rom but don't have access to Odin
-Base rom: N910FXXU1ANK5.
-Nothing has been added or removed with the exception of the files needed to have root permissions.
-Only 2 build prop lines have been modified to fix some things that usually stop working once root is applied (screen mirroring and private mode).
Everything else is totally untouched.
Download it HERE
DANGER:
IF FLASH THIS YOUR COUNT KNOX INCREMENT TO 0X1
Thanks to Chainfire (root) JustArchi (archi kitchen) and sawdoctor for letting me know about build.prop fixes.
Great. Thank you!
I've been looking for a pure stock rom.
Sent from a mobile gadget...
any changes or improvements over the nk4 based rom?
There are no changes, official changelist is the same for ANK4/5/6.
Just installed the ROM and uninstalled all bloatware. Works flawless.
Guys I flashed stock rom and lost root, chain fire website says bandwidth exceeded when I try to download auto root, is there any other way to root??
ro.secure.storage.support is not right. ro.securestorage.support is the right line. You find it the build.prop file.
Thanks this is the fastest rom what i try.
I only debloated, flashed AEL kernel and switched to ART runtime.
Hello guys,
just a question, please.
Is it safe to flash it directly from stock rooted NJ4?
Or is it necessary to flash new modem and bootloader through Odin first?
Thanks for your help.

I flashed the NK4 bootloader and modem to install a NK4 ROM.
It doesn't boot until you install a NK4 ROM.
I then flashed this after as I didn't like the ROM I was on and I have had no issues.
Can someone provide the stock kernel to this ROM please? Currently on AEL kernel but I am really bad at kernel tweaking

Because I felt like it... who are you to question what I do with my own phone?
Maybe I flashed it because you don't always need to tweak custom kernels. Then realised to get the very most out of them i would need to tweak it.
Learning by doing, it's what xda is about. I'm still looking for the first dude waking up knowing it all
I think I found a how to in one of the kernel threads.

[Q] is there a rooted 5.1.1 rom???

Is there a rooted 5.1.1 rom for Odin anywhere?
Preferably already deodexed.
Thanks

I have a stock rooted ROM here and am working on a deodexed version but I see no benefit/need for creating an Odin version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...l/how-to-update-to-g900tof6-5-1-1-pc-t3141404
just asking . apparently with this root method of using a permissive kernel, the privacy mode is broken. any idea if that can be fixed and keep root?
benefit is that it's everything in a single package. including bootloader, modem etc.. twrp is good for flashing a different rom of the same version but for upgrades it's better to use odin. imho.

Those ROM's flash everything but recovery.
Exactly. And u don't wanna flash recovery after u get a custom recovery on board
I'm using cm 12.1. The nighlies are good enough for a daily driver and I love it compared to touchwiz

The ROM for 5.1.1 isn't flashable through FlashFire to keep root and Knox 0x0 right?

Correct, you need a custom kernel to root 5.1 which trips the warranty bit any way you flash it.
