[TUTORIAL][D802] Root, install recovery and update bootloader for NEWBIES/NOOBS! - G2 General

Hello,
Many people have problem with bricked device because they complied many diffrent tutorials and broke their G2.
I will explain you how to root stock rom/update bootloader and back to stock via lg flashtool.
Perform operations step by step
Okay, so first thing - ROOT STOCK LG ROM.
1. Stump ROOT (Without usb cable, working with 20h ROM)
Stump Root v1.2 (Newest version)
-->> Download Stump ROOT v1.2 <<--
Go to settings>general>security and check "Unknown Sources" to install external APKs.
Now install Stump ROOT app from download link. (In installation progress Android will ask you for install permisions because this integrate in system code. OFC ACCEPT)
Open Stump ROOT and press GRIND, then wait sec and press BruteForce, after 1-2 min your device will restart and now u got ROOT, u need install -->> SuperSU <<-- from market.
2. Install TWRP for your device. (Autorec)
-->> Download AUTOREC <<--
Okay, it's easiest step, just install Autorec application (Be sure it's for your model in file name!)
Open, accept and flash.
This way will downgrade your bootloader and kernel. After device reboot u have already ROOT and TWRP.
Now u can update first your TWRP to newest 2.8.5.1
-->> HERE THEARD WITH NEW TWRP <<--
If you download new TWRP, then u can easy flash it via -->> Flashify <<-- app from market. There select recovery>zip and select your new TWRP, it will reboot device to recovery and flash. (BE SURE IT'S FOR YOUR D802 MODEL!!)
3. Update bootloader. (IMPORTANT!!! U ALWAYS NEED UPDATE BOOTLOADER WITH VERSION ROM WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE, IF YOUR ROM V20H, USE 20H BOOTLOADER, IF YOU HAVE 20D, THEN USE 20D BOOTLOADER OR UPDATE YOUR DEVICE TO 20H!!)
Now u need becareful, because it is easy way to brick device if you will not perform tutorial.
-->> Download v20h bootloader <<--
Download bootloader to your memory storage in device, and open flashify, press Menu button and Reboot Recovery, when it will reboot to TWRP, press INSTALL and select bootloader v20h zip file in path you downloaded it.
Now reboot device and Enjoy ROOTED device with newest bumped TWRP and newest bootloader.. AND NO BRICK )
Enjoy your powerfull device.
I will update theard with new steps like install kernels, back to stock step by step, easiest way to secure your device.
I know there are many tutorials, but we have still many people on XDA with problems like QS_BULK device, 9008, secure verify problem etc etc. So this is way to bypass every danger things.
Im not creator of any used in this tutorial mods, i just complied few theards to few easy steps

Hi good Job!
I have Two questions.
Can i upgrade my twrp Version with flashing the zip file in twrp?
Which Bootloader version use cyanogenmod 12?
Thank you!

A few additional info for the D802 variant:
-You don't NEED to change boot loader if you're fully on stock unless:
--You plan to use AOSP Lollipop
--You use any JB based ROMs (they should say in their respective threads for the D802)
-If you stick with the KK boot loader, only flash BUMPed flashables (they should state if they use this method)
-I recommend to use Blastagator's TWRP as it has thermal protection that stock TWRP doesn't have
-Only flash ROMs/any other flashables while the phone is cool
-Most ROMs can use the KK modem unless stated otherwise
Correct me on any misunderstood/incorrect information

1. You should be able to
2. You should be on the JB boot loader, we don't have the 12B one, that's for another variant

Yes. If you installed AutoRec and u are able to open recovery, you can flash via older twrp. It is no problem

I just wrote this tutorial for Stock, and it's always good to have new stuff. It's safe with bumped twrp and it shouldn't make any problem with device.

Thank you guys!
So i dont need to change my Bootloader to Flash cm12?
Installed twrp via autorec and im on Stock kk.

Ok, good. I liked your tutorial, pretty informative.

Hello, i'm stuck at this step :

Edit : i flashed the rom without KK bootloader and it worked
-> I Was on 20H. I rooted, installed twrp, updated twrp. I've flashed 20d KK bootloader and now, secure booting error
I have access to download mode. What can i do do boot normally ? (i know i could probably flash a kdz but i don't really want to)

i cannot enter into the twrp by pressing the vol down + power, it just ask me whether i want to format, this means i still do not have twrp ?

Well if you cant enter your recovery or system then you have to flash kdz.

You already flashed TWRP right? If so then you need to confirm it twice with the power button. It says like format data/factory reset but it will boot into the custom recovery.

please help me...i have a lg g2 d802 32gb model ..its a traded phone...when i got the phone it was running 4.4.2 kitkat the phone was rooted bt there was no suprrueser app i installed the app and then i flashed recovery with autorec now whenever i open my data or wifi and use my phone for some minutes my screen becomes unresponsive is it due to the jellybean bootloader that the autorec installed or something else please help me...

Recovery combo gone
The thread seems like dead now, but maybe I get help .
I flashed 20H and now there is the recovery combo, when I try pwr + volume down it simply reboots . The recovery is instaled, but I only can access it from software (that now is corrupted, so, soft brick).

Wrong combo

You're not soft bricked, it's just that key combo changes in 20H, new combo to enter recovery is vol down + power key, As lg logo appears, release keys and press vol up + vol down and you can easily access twrp

and i ran intro bootloop.. help!

I'll update theard soon to aosp/lollipop support, bootstacks explains etc.

[Untested] Rooting LP 5.1 - Requires 5.0 As A Base

Rooting Method for Xperia Z Ultra Lollipop V5.1 .
What You Need :
5.1 .
Root & Recovery Pre-Installed .
Flashtool & PC .
MAKE A BACKUP FIRST
How To :
As a Start, You Gonna have Lollipop 5.0 with Root & Recovery installed .
Move 5.1 to firmwares folder .
Download This SuperSu Flashable file and move it to SDCard & Internal Storage .
Open Flashtool .
Select The ROM .
Exclude Kernel ONLY .
Flash the ROM .
Boot the Phone and enter Recovery ASAP .
Install the ZIP File, if Flashtool didn't wipe Internal storage yet, then install it from Internal storage, otherwise from SD Card .

As a feedback from my friend, he said there was not problem with 5.0 kernel on 5.1 system for first boot ( recovery entering only ) .
Please feedback, and don't forget the backup !
is it 5.1 or 5.1.1?
The quick way to root any ROM, including the newly released 5.1.1 is, if you have an unlocked bootloader:
- Hotboot any custom kernel with a recovery (fastboot)
- Flash SuperSU
- Reboot
If you want CWM/TWRP:
- Flash NUT's Dual Recovery kernel through fastboot
- Reboot
You're now rooted, and you have recovery.
NOTE: If you have no idea how to use fastboot, then you can use QuickIMG. It lets you flash .IMGs very easily without needing to use any commands. Do however read the instructions provided before you use it.
It's also a good idea to learn how to get out of a sticky situation in case something goes wrong. If you want to be on the safe side when testing kernels, hotboot, or boot an IMG/kernel instead of flashing. Once you see that the kernel is indeed working, and you're not experiencing any bootloops or red LED blinking, then you can safely flash it to disk.
Note: Hotbooting means that the device will only boot the kernel once, so it doesn't really flash it to the device. Flashing a kernel writes it to the device, making it permanent until you replace it by flashing a different kernel yourself.

I Didn't see a pre-rooted firmware, that's why i put this guide, if someone can do it and upload the firmware that's would be awesome .
hi there. I just want to say that after following your guide I could not get in to recovery after flashing the 5.1.1 ftf minus the kernel. when turning the phone on it goes straight to normal boot but it doesn't. it goes in to a boot loop. some how it removes dual recovery and can't flash SuperSU there for loosing root and yes I was rooted with dual recovery. could you explain with more details how to please because I did as you said and didn't work

Upgrade and root 5.1.1 Lollipop 14.6.A.0.368 locked or unlocked bootloader

** DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A DEVELOPER. I DO THIS AS A HOBBY AND SHARE MY FINDINGS IN CASE SOMEONE ELSE FINDS THEM USEFUL. **
** THIS WORKED ON MY DEVICE BUT IT MAY NOT WORK ON YOURS. APPLY AT YOUR OWN RISK **
This post shows you how to upgrade your system to lollipop 5.1.1 and optionally have root privileges. This is tested on C6833 model. For other models see the troubleshooting section near the end of the post.
Requirements:
Flashtool 0.9.18.6. or 0.9.19.6 or higher Important: Do not use Flashtool 0.9.19.0.
If you want to root the phone: Rooted XZU on Android version 5.0.2 or Kitkat with custom recovery installed.
This works on locked or unlocked bootloaders and any customization.
Download link for upgrade only:
C6833_14.6.A.0.368_1275-8026_R2D.ftf (unmodified Customized DE):
https://mega.nz/#!khF1nILD!C5D70e-BjCKVBCuOurjFOLcIMZDcldYVeIDnFiR-PGM
Download link for upgrade and root:
5.1.1-system.zip:
https://mega.nz/#!YoFgCSjA!Zh8t_4jeXcAEWhOYePA40uQLI7vw4-CnxohjBdMbpz0
C6833_14.6.A.0.368_No_System.ftf
https://mega.nz/#!l4dllSTT!R393EG4W3CwOZp1OLOzfUzpHF0IlvsmfW04BrGOggXc
Instructions for upgrading without root:
1- Back up your internal SDCARD and your apps.
2- Download C6833_14.6.A.0.368_1275-8026_R2D.ftf
3- Open Flashtool and click on the flash icon. Choose flash mode.
4- Navigate to where you saved C6833_14.6.A.0.368_1275-8026_R2D.ftf and flash this ftf with your phone in flash mode. I recommend wiping apps and cache and data (Note that wiping data will erase your internal SDcard too). To put your phone in flash mode, hold the volume down button when it is off and connect with the USB cable to the PC.
5- Reboot.
Instructions for upgrading with root:
0- If your existing system is rooted using Kingroot read the troubleshooting section below before continuing.
1- Back up your internal SDCARD and your apps.
2- Download C6833_14.6.A.0.368_No_System.ftf and 5.1.1_system.zip.
3- Copy 5.1.1-system.zip to your phone's internal SDcard.
4- Reboot to recovery and install 5.1.1-system.zip.
5- If you are coming from Kitkat just Turn the phone off. If you are coming from 5.0.2, reboot the phone and let it work through the boot animation which will take a while. Then it will show force closing messages and possibly reboots itself. At this point turn it off by holding down the power and volume-up keys for a few seconds. The phone will vibrate 3 times and turns off.
6- Open Flashtool and click on the flash icon. Choose flash mode.
7- Navigate to where you saved C6833_14.6.A.0.368_No_System.ftf and flash this ftf with your phone in flash mode. I recommend wiping apps and cache and data (Note that wiping data will erase your internal SDcard too). To put your phone in flash mode, hold the volume down button when it is off and connect with the USB cable to the PC.
8- Reboot.
Troubleshooting, etc.
This procedure works only if you follow every step carefully. When you are done you can easily test your root status in a terminal emulator or via adb. Please see the attached image.
If you have used Kingroot to root your existing system flashing this ROM may not work and it may leave your system with a partially updated file system that may be broken. The reason is that Kingroot (which in my opinion is malware) makes some of your system files immutable which means they cannot be removed during a software upgrade. To proceed, you should either find a way to replace this horrendous piece of code with SuperSU or downgrade to Kitkat and root with XZDualRecovery before trying this guide. Read the second part of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62936808&postcount=22.
If during the procedure for root the flashing of the ftf in step 7 fails, repeat step 7 with C6833_14.6.A.0.368_1275-8026_R2D.ftf or any other 14.6.A.0.368 ftf but exclude the system partition in the flashtool dialog window. If you don't exclude the system partition you will not get root.
If you have root after the procedure but something else doesn't work, try a factory reset.
Note that flashtool 0.9.19.0 was specifically released to support the new sin format on new devices and some of its features don't work with older devices. So to avoid taking any chances I used version 18.
I don't know if this works for C6802 or C6806. Some users reported success on 6806, like this one and this. For that model you follow this guide and use the zip file posted here. The only difference is that instead of flashing the ftf posted here in the next step, use the stock 14.6.A.0.368 ftf for your phone and exclude system.
Will this C6833 FTF work on a C6806 USA phone?, because I can't find a C6806 FTF anywhere...
Can this system zip be used with other customized versions of c6833 ftf.

You probably didn't exclude the system partition in this step:
7- Navigate to where you saved C6833_Customized+DE_14.6.A.0.368.ftf.*Exclude system partition*and flash this ftf.
Out of curiosity, what is wrong with the latest flashtool?

Customized DE just means it is the German version of the ROM. I used that because I bought the phone in Germany. But the menus and keyboard and everything is in English so you would not even notice the difference.
This method will not touch your bootloader status so if you are locked you remain locked.
If you are already on 5.1.1 through OTA this will not work for you. You need to start from rooted 5.0.2 with recovery installed.

I think you can still do it straight from kitkat but if you are following the instructions with root in step 5 instead of rebooting just turn the phone off.
Let me know if that works.
so my ZU used to be rooted with Lollipop 5.0.2, but i removed Kinguser/chinese root app and no longer have root access. I've also previously installed recovery but don't know if it will still work ? i forgot how to boot into recovery to see if it even works.. any helpers?
Power on the phone and when u see the led notification start pressing either the Volume UP or Volume Down key a couple of times to make your phone boot into recovery mode

[GUIDE][6.0.1 OFFICIAL STOCK] Use TWRP to get root access

So the OFFICIAL 6.0.1 is already out and this is not the BETA version. It's for consumer release.
So how do you get to this eh?
NOTES: Flashtool can be used for both LB/UB. You won't lose DRM keys or unlock bootloader if you flash via flashtool.
1. Install Flashtool (get it here: http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php).
2. There is a XperiFirm option there which would allow you to download official FTF files.
3. Navigate your way to Z3 Compact and grab the D5803 version US Variant (since this is configured for GLOBAL-LTE but i might still need to test bands). Or just grab anything you want there as long as it's version: 23.5.A.0.570
3. Flash using flashmode (hit the lightning icon there).
Now there's this "WIPE" Box, you have 2 options!
- Check User data and App logs and hit flash -- this will factory reset phone so you better have a backup!
- Leave them UNCHECKED if you want to retain your apps from your previous STOCK ROM. (might automatically uninstall incompatible apps in the process).
Once it asks for your device to be connected. Do as it says (power down, then hold the vol. down button as you plug the phone in).
-- this should start flashing.
4. After the process you may now boot the phone and there you have it!
-- Things below require unlocked BL --
If you want root, you can use fastboot and TWRP 3.X (I've tested the TWRP version 3.0.2 on the 6.0.1 beta before)
send this command on fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <your twrp img here>
and hit enter. It must return 'OKAY'.
Unplug phone then boot into recovery and flash your SuperSU.zip

If you have a locked BL, then root and install DualRecovery. There is an excellent thread here on XDA and you'll be on TWRP in no time. It also makes sure you'll have the drivers and flash tool and everything that you'll need for this already configured and ready to go.
If you have an unlocked BL, just go find TWRP and flash through fastboot.
Thanks OP!
P.S. I'm guessing for those with locked BLs, we can use PRFCreator and that FTF from Xperifirm to create a flashable, pre-rooted MM ROM...anyone tried? My Z3c is currently bricked (hopefully fixable) so I can't test at the moment.
Another DEV published a root method, both for the LB and UB:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/wip-sony-android-6-0-mm-t3337357/page1
Keep in mind that that method was used for the BETA version of the rom, but yeah it's more likely that it would work with the consumer release. I'll update the OP once I relock my BL and successfully gain root with it.
The UB method there has the same effect as mine
I could not get root with the method, i would get boot img failure on flashing superSU in twrp with unlocked BL but to solve the issue i just flashed the advanced kernel for 6.0.1 and superSU flashed fine..not sure if anyone else is having this problem but this method did not work for me.
Do I keep root with locked bootloader with this method ?
Title of this topic is confusing, it seems that you need BL unlocked to get root.

No you will lose root if you flash ftf on locked BL, you will need to root again using whichever method you used previously. If you flash an ftf file on ANY bootloader locked or unlocked it resets your phone to the contents of the ftf file.

And which is the method to root this version with BL??

P.S. I'm guessing for those with locked BLs, we can use PRFCreator and that FTF from Xperifirm to create a flashable, pre-rooted MM ROM...anyone tried? My Z3c is currently bricked (hopefully fixable) so I can't test at the moment.

I'm giving it a try so I'll let you know.
EDIT: Admittedly I haven't got a clue how to use prfcreator but I tried and whilst it flashed there was no root or recovery.
2nd EDIT: XDR doesn't work on MM yet. I'll give TWRP a try.

Nice that sounds promising, at least it worked with the .zip that you created!
Which version of SuperSU are you using?
Thanks,

I'm using BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524.zip
However I was looking at the PRFCreator thread and it looks like if you add Recroot v2 as the SuperSU it should work. Not sure if it will give a recovery though.
EDIT: Okay. Didn't install the SuperSU binary properly but Kingroot could install the root though. Tried to remove it and replace with SuperSU and got a bootloop. However I have a cunning plan.
Xperia Z3 Compact - UB
I could not get TWRP recovery with the fastboot method.
I tried to install several "recoverys" but none are installed.
Help me please.

We have progress of sorts.
With prf creator add superSU and create the prerooted ROM.
In TWRP Wipe everything but SDcard and OTG
Install pre rooted ROM
Then Install RICDefieat.zip, byeselinux_flashable.zip, and BusyBox-v1.24.1-Stericson.zip
Power off the phone.
Open Flashtool
Load ftf of .570 and check the Exclude System box and flash the phone
Install TWRP using Z3C_MM_TWRP_Recovery_V2_By_Serajr
And that should be it.
Managed to get everything working bar the TWRP but I think that was my fault.
A download file of everything you need bar the ROM.

Edit: TWRP is unstable and sometimes becomes unavailable . If that happens just find SGP621-RICDefeat.zip to enable R/W again and reinstall.

Upgrade to Nougat. Unlock Bootloader -> TWRP -> Root -> Safetynet Pass

Updated for more serious reference. Hope this info helps you!
Procedure:
Once you have updated to Nougat, you would have to unlock your bootloader
The APK that unlock the bootloader works (Even though is marked as M version). (Remember that this will wipe your device!) For ULBL -> Version UnlockTool_2017_0803(android M) (FROM ASUS) https://www.asus.com/us/Phone/ZenFone-3-Zoom-ZE553KL/HelpDesk_Download/
Zenfone will reboot and you will able to see a new splash screen that informs you that your device is unlocked giving you boot options Don't press anything. (You will see this everytime you reboot). The next screen will show an erase process. Phone will reboot.
Once booted enable developer options and adb via usb.
You can find TWRP builds right here: https://mega.nz/#F!p90wgAaY!l1JbJilmAUEKTKWu43pT9w (Special thanks to: @shakalaca) Use the latest one.
Go to fastboot mode and install TWRP. (fastboot flash recovery (nameoffile).img)
Let fastboot do it's magic, once you finish press volume buttons till you find reboot recovery press power button to select. It will boot again to the first splash. Do not press anything, let it work. It will boot TWRP in a whistle.
Once in TWRP make a backup. You know it's necessary, and will save your ass in case of a softbrick.
Flash latest magisk (Current Ver: 13.3) Magisk thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Reboot, check drawer for magisk manager, magisk and root should be enabled.
Voila. Safetynet test passed :good:
what version was twrp are you using and what steps did you take to get magisk to work.

So today finally I got my Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom. I couldn't contain myself to start playing with it.
My very first surprise was that the phone requested for an update. I've done it. I ended with a stock 7.1.1 AZ3Z.
This is my experience:
The APK that let you unlock bootloader works. (Remember that this will wipe your device)
After auto reboot I cheched safetynet. At this point test failed (Little bit obvious)
I was able to go to fastboot mode and install TWRP (The same you can find right here at the forum)
Let fastboot do it's magic, press volume buttons till you find reboot recovery. It will boot TWRP in a whistle.
Once in TWRP I made a backup. You know if necessary.
The next step was a crossfinger procedure. Just flashed latest magisk Beta (13)
Reboted checked for magisk manager on drawer.
It was there and root also. Enabled magiskhide, and voila. Safetynet test passed :good:
Hope this Info help you.

Just a question as I'm having difficulty booting into TWRP.
My device is unlocked and when flashing TWRP using the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" and trying to boot into it nothing happens other than my device going into the bootloader. I have tried flashing both the most recent TWRP 3.1.1 and 3.1.0 yet I keep on coming to the same problem. Can anyone provide help? thanks in advance.

Everytime you reboot the pone starts into boot loader. It has a countdown to boot into whatever is commanded.
Once you flashed succesfully the recovery img you just have to select option to boot recovery with vol keys and power.
Phone will reboot into bootloader agin let it boot on contdown (don't press any key)
Then it will boot into twrp.
Hello, on nougat i am trying to install the twrp, I downloaded the official bootloader release program (after installing the message "unlocked device") but trying to install the twrp via fastboot me by an error message. ... but I think the problem is the unlocking of the bootloader (if I turn the ze553kl in fastboot mode I see my device is "locked") ... there is another version of the bootloader release software? The one available on asus site would look for android M ... maybe there is one for Nougat? Thanxs
Wop. I used the M version apk on Nougat. It worked with no issues, the unlock of boot loader is successful when all the content of your smartphone is wiped.
For reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg77b8o8Jk4 Min 1:29
Thank you! But running the software, does not run any wipe, it only displays an "unlocked" message without having to restart anything else. I also tried to make a "factory reset" and repeat lab process but the result does not change ...

Edit. Jimbo, I got an anwer from the source it notes: "please use 'fastboot flash recovery' instead of 'fastboot boot' to avoid up side down screen"

[GUIDE] [A2017G] Return to Stock from Custom ROM - Updated

Back to Stock with @raystef66's Files
This guide used a method stemmed from paranoia. Now that we have decent flashable files everything is much simpler!
We'll be using raystef66's flashable TWRP files to go completely back to stock. At the end there's instructions if you want to lock your bootloader.
Be sure that you are on the latest TWRP version!
1) Files to Download:
- TWRP Flashable Bootstack/Stocksystem Image from here: Download Center. Download the latest BOOTSTACK and STOCKSYSTEM from there.
- If you want to lock the bootloader, also download the STOCK RECOVERY zip from the same stocksystem version that you downloaded. The flashable stock recovery zips are on the Factory Images Division, right above the TWRP flashable files.
- Magisk 15.2 (or latest), or SuperSU 2.79 (Latest not recommended ). If you will relock the bootloader, skip this part.
2) Installation
- Put all the files on the internal storage or SD card. Backup your important stuff from the internal storage, because you might need to format it!
- Go to TWRP. Wipe data, system and cache (don't format data though).
- Install the bootstack that you downloaded. Then install the stock system.
- If you will NOT relock the bootloader, install Magisk or SuperSU
- Reboot
If the phone asks for a password when it gets to the system, go to TWRP. It will ask for a password, just select Cancel. After you're on the main TWRP screen, select Wipe, then Format data, then type yes. After that, reboot.
3) 5 second screen removal / restore Fastboot
This is useful whether you're relocking the bootloader or not. Just go to raystef66's guide and follow it completely. After doing it your phone will have Fastboot (very good for softbricks and relocking), no 5 seconds screen (your phone will boot up faster) and it will be even closer to full stock.
4) ONLY FOR RELOCKING - Replace TWRP with Stock Recovery
Simply go to TWRP and flash the stock recovery file you downloaded. After that, enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging from the dev options, and then go to Fastboot and issue "fastboot oem lock".
@Choose an username... thanks for the credits.
you can return to stock in that way. you can reflash twrp with tool, allways checking bootloader still unlocked.
I allway update in this way, reboot to twrp, flash the recovery image, not a zip, its the same, but I make sure that the recovery correspond to the base version in my phone. after that, I reboot to system directly, update in the ota way, or the zip way, but from running android, rooted or not, and I dont have to wipe.
After update is done, the most important thing is leave the phone till it is completly booted, then you can reflash twrp with axon7tool again.
You dont need to root, you dont need anything to keep twrp. You only need to flash supersu or magisk if you use darkenfx zips. And if you do it, you have to backup wipe and restore cause you lose encryptation.
But thats all. I think stock rom its still the best, not in battery life, but in camera and bundled apps, It works perfectly, except, I have 2 bugs since allways, wake up with proximity sensor covered, and whatsapp online with app in background, I can live with that
I can re-lock bootloader after this process?
thanks for the guide.
Help Needed ! A2017g Bricked while trying to returning to stock
Hi, Please help me to get my Axon 7 in a working state. I was using Xenon HD Rom for A2017g Oreo. With twrp version as suggested in the guide.
I followed the procedure, installed the bootstack and then stock system B09
But when I tried to reboot, it said no OS Installed. Then I rebooted, and it was stuck at bootloader with no twrp and just the message as follows :
Android Recovery : ZTE/P996A04_N/ailsa_ii
7.1.1/NMF26V/20171120.101942
user/release-keys
Use volume up/down and power
and then certain other options in blue
Please help !

Enter the recovery, it should be the stock one (turn the phone off, then hold vol+ and power). Then download a stock B10 file (not the twrp flashable one) and install it from an SD card
No its not the stock one, its still TWRP.
I only flashed Bootstack and stock system (step 2). The reboot afterwards doesnt work
What do you mean by "a stock B10 file"? There are so many files types :-/
I am not quite sure what I should do now, do I have to do the EDL route? That one sounds confusing as well.
EDIT: I tried using B08 Files and now the reboot prompt in TWRP tells me there is no os installed.
Will I, like naveen09y, end up without TWRP if I reboot now?

Probably, so just don't. You should just wipe system and data, flash the bootstack, then the system. Also follow raystef's guide to "remove bootloader unlocked inscription"
I now managed to get the phone working with EDL flash of MM B10.
But I cant relock the bootloader :-/
Bascially my bootloader is gone so I cant reboot to it and do "fastboot oem lock".
Why is this such a hassle

You didn't follow my instructions. Follow raystef's removed unlocked bootloader inscription and you'll get fastboot back. You can do that with the phone on.
Don't relock it unless it's really necessary (i.e. warranty). If you're gonna sell it just follow that guide and don't relock, the 5 seconds screen will disappear and it'll look like it's locked
I cant follow the guide because I can't access the bootloader...

What? Lol
First of all - you are basically installing the bootloader with raystef's guide, so I have no idea why you want to enter it...
You have to enter TWRP and follow the guide from there.
The guide from Controllerboy is basically the same guide but it also has instructions on other things (i.e. unlock etc.). I don't know what you are trying to accomplish with it. Use EDL Tool by djkuz if you want to install TWRP (it is explained there how to do that).
Phone was rooted with Magisk 16, I was on AEX Android 8.1 ROM. I'm trying to return to stock and relock bootloader.
I wiped everything, I flashed A2017G-N-B10-bootstack and A2017G-N-B10-stocksystem from "TWRP flashable Bootstack/Stocksystem Images" section. Booted to system and now phone is stuck on the ZTE POWERED BY android boot screen. 5 minutes there. Is it normal?
Edit: Got tired of waiting and kept pressing the power button. After doing so, the phone reboots but same thing. And I can't access TWRP with VOL INCREASE + POWER BUTTON.... VOL DECREASE + POWER BUTTON takes me to Factory Test Mode.

The best way to return to stock is via EDL, for example MiFlash or EDL tool. If you have an U, then DrakenFX's zips can do that, it happened to me already. Usually G zips like raystef's work just fine.
Try using Magisk instead of SuperSU, just in case. Use 16.7
