[Q] Internet browser not prompting for video player - Kitkat 4.4.2 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I'm coming from a Galaxy S2 running ICS. When I would click to play a video from the default internet browser, I would get prompted for the video player. I'm assuming that it has something to do with flash compatibility? In any case, I really liked this behavior since I could choose MX player (stream) or Internet (download). This was very handy and I would love to be able to have that functionality on my new device.
I'm now using a Galaxy S4 running KitKat 4.4.2 and it seems that all videos play inline and I can't choose any other apps. Is there a way to get that functionality back?
Thanks for any insight you may have!

Nope. Android killed all flash plug-ins and apps are now made to play videos inline. Not to mention the option to download was breaking alot of rules.

Say it aint so!! Should this have been working in ICS? I'm wondering because if it's been disabled since before ICS, maybe I can still find a way around this...?

You might be able to get around this by using outdated apks from before they started using the inbuilt browsers but be warned that if you download the videos google has the right to term you account. Other then that there is nothing you can do. Flash has been dead for a long time now.

[Q] First row sports

when I had my OG Droid Inc (CM7 rom) rooted i was able to go on firstrowsports(.)com with now problems (other than slow as hell 3G). now that im on a stock GS3 (verizon) the most i can get is the sound. is there something wrong with the GS3 flash, or does it need to be rooted to help out my situation
I'm guessing you don't have a good connection. I use to have that problem once in a while with my S2, haven't tried it with the S3 yet.

I just tried it and it works for me...make sure the browser you are using is able to play flash and make sure flash is up to date.

Not sure exactly what you mean but I use ics browser+ and didn't change any settings.

sometimes i get a "looking for plug-in" message on websites that i should definatly get a video
im on verizon btw (so no root .. yet).
i think the main problem is the flash, noticed alot of websites are running funny
Make sure you have the latest Flash Player installed. Another good alternative, is Skyfire Web Browser. Although it requires a license purchase ($1.99) to be able to watch video/movies using the browser. It does give you 3 days trial.

so i discovered it was because i needed the latest flash player, and that chrome wasnt flash ready. smh . thre first row plays smothly now, when it wants to.

What did you do to get Flash Player working on OTA ICS? NO FLAMES PLEASE

Flash, are numerous threads on Flash and ICS. but... people on the Rezound say their Flash is working after the OTA ICS update. So...how did you get it to workk? I have tried a few different browsers, uninstalled Flash and reinstalled. I downloaded and installes the Flash from the Modaco Flash downloader..restarted phone..and still, every flash video is a blank black screen that has a tiny cube with a [ ? ] in it.. when I click the Flash settings, It loads up a blank page with that [ ? ] in it... Whats the secretk?
And please no trolling comments...

After you get the latest Adobe flash player from the play store, go into your browser and hit menu> settings>advanced> enable flash and plug-ins.
Flash is set to off by default so change it to always on.

I know you are just trying to state the obvious, but thats already done.....in browsers that actually have that setting (not all have it). No ideaif Opera supports it as there is no setting for it. However, Boat has it. I dont see it anywhere in the stock browser settings like it was in GB. Its missing a few other settings as well.
But thanks

Umm...because Adobe removed it from the play store just recently.
Adobe carries the android flash player on it's website. There is no reason to go to a seperate site. Also, if you go to the playstore, look into your account, and look in your apps, it is usually there as well. If it is already installed on the phone. No flames here... But, there is already a thread about problems, and issues with ICS. If you posted there instead of starting so many threads, people may not be as inclined to flame you. Really, just trying to be helpful. Otherwise, your handle here might cause people to react like they would in real life. "Oh No, its THE COPS".LOL

Thats the thing, I didnt see the thread. I searched for about 2 hours both on google and through XDA specifically for Flash Player not working after ICS update. I added Rezound because some phones just cant get it to work in ICS, like the Droid Razr Maxx. So its a wonder I missed that. Yes I poked through a lot of threads on xda that came up in search, but that one didnt. Its not like I didnt search.
Thanks for the reply JeramyEggs. Appreciated
And to Ashton, I appreciate the help. Just next time someone makes a few threads about Android problems, dont be rude like that. Its a good way to lose members in here. I know you are a respected member and a dev possibly and I just noticed you have been helping people out a lot. I'm sure you just got annoyed because you see it from other people often. Try and put yourself in a super frustrated and irritated persobs shoes who suddenly ran into problem after problem. No ones trying to break any posting records here, heck thats what that sticky at the top is for. I missed your post...simple mistake. I'm not going to get into rules, but I dont believe I was breaking any. I did operate as a moderator at 2 different smartphone forums for a few years so I know how it works. As for the Adobe Flash package, Im going to check Adobes site. If I dont it or have any issues then I will let you know about sending that.

[Q] Music Junk HELP!

Does anyone know where I can find the latest version of Music Junk? Mine just keeps saying "Network Error" and all the searches I have done are really old posts. Can someone help me please???
Looks like it might be gone for good since the Facebook and Twitter page has been pulled....
I've been wondering the same, but I guess it really is finally gone for good... which blows because it was the best app for downloading music, hands down.
After posting my last, I installed Music Junk 4.3 on my phone again and opened it immediately to try it out again. I searched for music and it actually worked. I downloaded a couple of songs and everything, but then it stopped working after trying another search. Not sure what this means, but hopefully something positive...
Can you post a link for 4.3? I couldn't find it anywhere. I found other versions, but not that one. Pretty Please?
I have this problem with 4.3 I also tried to uninstall & reinstall. I tried 4.2 as well with no luck. This is typical of them when they change versions, but I haven't seen a 4.4 version out there...

I did last night, randomly... decided to install it again and try it. The first search worked and I was able to download several songs. After that, no such luck. I've been getting network error ever since.
I remember long time back (HTC hero days) music junk used to have some files, that used to pull data from these music websites, that used to get outdated. hence, the new versions would have the new files and we would not get the network errors...
If we can get a developer to look into some recent music junk versions and look into the changes made, we might be able to get it working again.

The thing is that music junk was the only app that showed the bitrate of each song. And it worked! The quality of songs was amazing.
The thing is that there is a very easy fix for this Network error... We just need a developer to look into it.

I agree, with Rolle you are at the mercy of whatever is available bit rate wise. I have had good results so far, sometimes CD 44.1 quality or near, sometimes its complete crap. Just throwing out there for a suggestion to hold you over! I agree and hope a developer can modify music junk as necessary.

I think it's a done deal, guys. Anytime the servers went offline & we waited on a new version,I was still able to download on mj ver3.0.that is the only version that would work all the time even when the newer current ones would come network error. Needless to say, 3 isn't working anymore.
No way 4.3 was working for me this month now i get network error why i love this app. Any one know if there is an update like 4.4 or am alternative app out there?
I'm using v 3.0.4, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The trick is i have to press search a few times, i get the "network error'' the first tries but eventually it loads the search page. I get the error far more times when im using the network than through wi fi. But once it goes through i click on the song and downloads on the first try.

flash works fine in the stock browser, you just need to side load a flash APK. Anything 11.1 or higher will work fine. Enjoy your porn :silly:.
It works well with boat browser and boat lets you set the user agent to desktop

So, even though it's JB the stock browser works with Flash? That's a big plus since I'm not yet ready to give up in-browser Flash videos. Now, it just needs root, SixAxis and Wireless Tether and I'll be content.

All Adobe said was that Flash for Android would be discontinued and wouldn't be officially supported by them after ICS. That doesn't mean it won't continue to work on some devices running 4.1 on up, just that there's no promise of working. I think Flash is still working with most Jelly Bean devices.

Same here. I doesn't work properly on some youtube videos. Some videos show scrambled lines but no pictures, some others just won't play. I installed the same JB version of Flash that I've been using on my SG3 (worked perfectly on all dozens of custom ROMs that I had flashed) and on my ATT Note (also on dozens of ROMs from AOSP, AOKP, to CM10 etc...) But no go on this Verizon Note II. I had to uninstall it. I only use Stock Browser BTW

Good idea! Apparently it is working according to the test pages. Maybe its just certain sites use a different player not suited for mobile...ill download dolphin beta and see if it works. Ive been out of the loop for a bit...why has adobe stopped supporting android? That was a major advantage of android in the early days.
Web site is probably borked and not handling browser user agent ID correctly. For example, videos on main page Yahoo don't work but Yahoo Movies do. Other tech news sites work too.

CNN videos work fine for me in Boat Browser. Been using that browser exclusively for about 6-months now and is about the best and fastest browser for Android with Dolphin coming in a close second.
You can get all of the Flash versions, and the latest (old) version of Dolphin that supported Flash from this link here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774336
I'm using the latest version of Flash (11.1.115.27) and the latest version of Boat Browser.
Just letting you guys know...CNN is a strange website in that
If you ever enter CNN without the Desktop Mode enabled and try to watch a video, then they drop a cookie in your browser, so when you come back to the website with Desktop mode, flash videos will not work. So the solution is to clear your cache.
I am having the best luck with Beta Firefox, addon: Desktop by Default (makes sites think your phone is a normal computer so no mobile bull****) and Adblock Plus (gets rid of most annoying popups etc)
Also found that when you go full screen on flash videos, you should turn the phone to the correct side of landscape so the video doesn't have to flip 180 or 90 degrees and there be a chance for it to freeze; sounds odd but a really buggy old flash page kept freezing when I went full screen the wrong way but loaded normally when I used the correct method.
Coming from the GNex, seems like Samsung's software is a little less forgiving then Google's unfortunately so steps like this seem necessary for the moment.

I just tried Firefox Beta again. Still blows. There's no full-screen, no homepage, no way to keep "request desktop" permanent, no way to access tabs in the full-screen add-on without turning full-screen add-on off, accessing tabs, then turning full-screen add-on back on again.
Desktop by Default seemed buggy and not always on.
Although Firefox was blazing fast, they've got a long way to go options-wise before they can compete with other mobile browsers.

Is there a way to lock my screen while listening to music on YT?

HI guys!
Is there any hacked YT version, which the screen locking don't stops the video? I usually listen to music on YT and i want to shut the screen off to save battery. I don't want to download all the music, and i can't download all of them i listen to.. I tried many other apps, none of them helped me. It would be the best, if i could use the YT, beacause i often listen to full playlists, and other apps can't handle my playlists or autoplay.
Thank you
Greetings,
that can be done only by installing XPOSED.
Kind regards

You can use this app to play media files while the screen is off, I don't think it works with YouTube though, you would have to pay for the music and then download it.
PVSTAR+ is a free app that can access YouTube content and use a "music mode" or whatever to let you turn off the screen and listen only. I used it when I went to the gym. Or just root, get xposed, and use YouTube Background Player or whatever it is called. Don't be afraid to root

Xposed is not a ROM, it is a hack that modifies the framework of your ROM, this can lead to bootloop's and overall instability. It is also possible that it won't cause any issues whatsoever, make sure that you know how to recover from a bootloop before you install Xposed. Also, even if the actual installation of Xposed works, the individual modules can easily cause a bootloop.
I did it. I rooted, and than flashed xposed, everything went ok, and then I wanted to take a photo. And the camera didn't want to work, just a black screen. So I flashed back the stock. It didn't worth it...

Well at least keep the root, you can do SO MUCH with root. And yes xposed can be tricky sometimes, but it can also be very beneficial. It just depends on if you want to deal with the troubleshooting if needed. And try the app I suggested, and the other one the dude before me suggested. Best of luck.
