[Q] [SOURCES] Anybody interested in some GSmart kernel sources? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I have contacted Gigabyte Communications through their eSupport business channel thing and I have been supplied with a couple sources for devices officially from Gigabyte.
The devices in question are GSmart Mika M3 (MT6582, I own a 'clone' of this device, KitKat) and GSmart Maya M1 v2 (MT6589, Jellybean 4.2.1, I think).
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to upload it to Github yet anyway. I have asked them for permission for that as well (though I believe I should be allowed to upload nonetheless).
And besides that, the upload speeds are horrendous over the DSL line at my place so if anybody wants the link I got from them, PM me or something and I can only hope that the link will work over the course of a week at least. (though I think it'll even stay there forever seeing as they never cleaned their FTP server from stuff from last year)
If in any case anything goes wrong with the link, I'll upload the original files I got from them once I get the official word.
The only real reason I got the sources is, well, besides customization, porting of ROMs for Android One devices to mine, since the chipset is exactly the same.

Yes you are allowed as it is licensed under the GPL. They van not stop you.

I got an official NO from them...

so I am not sure as to what should I do. I'll read through the license myself to make sure I ain't doing something wrong, but I have a strange feeling they're doing tivoization, which violates GPLv2.

Help from UK users

Trying to install beebplyer but can't find it on the market, previously installed & uninstalled it, so not sure why I can't find it anymore. Can anyone please check if it's just me or whether it's now off the market? Thanks.
I read somewhere that its been pulled for the time being.
Something about a 'proper' version coming out soon.
You best bet would be to try to find the APK from somewhere else online...
damn, was looking forward to having it for the world cup.
why would they pull it before a proper one is here? just sounds like aunt beeb wasn't best pleased with it

You can still download it using the barcode scanner. I just installed it, and the quality from the video is quite poor.
I'm not surprised it got discontinued. Worth using as a last RESORT
thanks, installing now! it is a last resort...
not sure if this is any good mate as I aint tried it yet:
http://www.skynetsoftware.com/myPlayer/index.aspx?platform=Android
PS - England are currently sucking bigtime in teh world cup
thanks, hopefully I'll still need it after the group stage!
try yamgo.mobi, its way more reliable than apps.
Yes beebplayer has been pulled from the market, although there is another app called myplayer, as zoomee has already stated.
That said, I don't think those apps are as good as just going to m.tvcatchup.com
You can watch a lot of freeview channels. It requires registration, but that's free, and just a 1 time thing. Try that out.

Cyanogenmod Screenshots Only!

Hello everybody.
As we all are interested in tweaking our phones to their best, we are as well, interested in making them look richer, I decided to start a new thread.
Feel free to post your screenshots here(Cyanogenmod preferrably).
We can thus share better themes and other stuff over this fresh thread!

Why a new thread when there is already one ?
Because the one is quite old.
It may be old, but it still serves it's purpose. Which is showing screenshots of your phone's homscreen(s).

Just join us in "show your display" no new thread needed, Its not an old thread, its how a true thread works..... its updated constantly and if it does go quiet i kindly bump to remind people lol.
Say oooh la la
Just an opinion from a non-themer's perspective (at least not yet lol): I don't really have the time to change lots of stuff on my phone on a regular basis but I like to have a look at some others' screens from time to time. I'm finding it much better if that was in one place instead of several different threads.
This part of XDA's forums is only a small one. We better have 100 threads with traffic rather than 1000 with one post per week

[Q] Basic(?) rom modding? Please do read...

Hello! I'd like to ask the community about something I've been interested doing as a project for a phone I plan on buying, I've looked around and I see lots of tutorials, but they don't quite meet the very specific criteria.
My problem is that I want to buy the "Umi C1" (click click for more info o: ) and the UI on the Stock ROM is awful.
I've looked around and there's apparently a way to modify ROMs using another phone's ROM files.
I was thinking of using the "HDC ONE M8's"(fake HTC one m8) ROM files and transferring them over to the C1's ROM file. (Both phones run the MTK6582 SOC, both have 1GB of RAM, Both have 16GB of storage, both run 1280x720P panels...)
Is this in anyway possible? Both roms are Odexed. (new to this, looked around on how to deodex roms and found a tutorial but I'm not sure how things will go first.)

Hello!
You can't move the whole content of a ROM made for a specific model, to another ROM made specific for a different model.
The reason for this is because the ROM also contains native libraries (drivers) that are specific to the hardware of the phone, and are not specific to the Android base code.
In other words, you would need to port the UI and framework only, not simply move all the files and even this is not very straightforward unfortunately. If you only want some minor (or major) changes of the home screen and application menu, then there are plenty of third party launchers on the market that should do the trick for you.
I hope this helped you.
Regards, Christopher

[Request/Poll] KDE Plasma-Mobile ROM

With this thread, I like to give my (and maybe your) request and wish
for KDE plasma-mobile ROM, for our device!
I'm making this poll, to make visible if there's interest in this ROM. Means,
maybe find a willing dev to code it.
Note: This ROM is still new for phones, but KDE is in strong
development
About:
For those who tried Linux's desktop enviroment KDE,
they will probably know how awesome KDE is.
When I first read about it, I was truly fascinated (https://www.xda-developers.com/plasma-mobile-is-a-fully-open-source-smartphone-os-from-kde-e-v/)
You may check out their site, if you're curious: https://plasma-mobile.org/

- Would love to use it, KDE is awesome -
PS: I am no dev, and I know this will probably first be possible, when kernel sources are released next month.
Yes we need this rom
still need the official kernel from Xiaomi though

Yeah I heard about this OS before. Can anyone port this please

mido kernnel sources

Requesting everyone to +1 issue #422.. and don't spam with duplicate issues..

I think I know why does it take a long time for them to release sources, they got so many issues going on.
This guy made 4 pages of pure stupidity

While this one made 5 pages of childish screaming
It will come when it's ready, they are definitely listening but these kind of behaviour will make them ignore us more.
That is what compelled me to write "don't spam with duplicate issues"

This is the first time I see something like this. I'm not sure how do they figure out that this might work.

To figure out something, one must be somewhat mature.. these two are either five year olds or 70 year olds with really tiny brains*.
