Windows 10 for Mi3? Discussion Thread - Mi 3 General

I think everyone heard about the biggest news today that Microsoft is working together with Xiaomi and will be bringing Windows 10.0 for phone on Mi4. Since Mi4 is sharing with Mi3 on sources, same cancro. Do you think Mi3 will have a fully working Windows and run dual boot between MIUI and Windows 10 officially? What do you think?

Yes sir..I sure do..

WOAH!!!
I am quite surprised by seeing this.
That is one of the best things I have heard from XIAOMI lately..
Hope it turns out to be true.

This is officially true for Mi4. But not certain for Mi3. No words but since we know this device is almost in common we can expect it will work as well.

ya mi3 might as every time Ivan releases a port it works on both mi3 and mi4 so windows 10 should work on mi3(may require some tweaks) if its working on mi4

Interesting project.

Uhm ...
I hope that this is not the meaning of "Redefining Android" ...

count me in too
i also want this ported to out device. i can also do the beta testing for it.

This won't be our typical boot.img for devices out there I recon. But still let's wait and swe

Though both phones use same ROM, but there is a difference like IR blaster options in Mi 4 and NFC in MI 3, these options get automatically applied to specific device, similarly the device name.. I believe if Microsoft wishes they can make it specific for MI4 only..

Just to be clear, Xiaomi and MS are not working together. MS is testing Windows on MI4 and several other phones(ZTE model). So i guess there wont be any problem installing Windows 10 on MI3, But ofcause it may take more time.
Sharing kernel does not mean anything because windows won't use linux/Android kernel.

It would be great to have windows 10 on my mi3. I am using the technical preview on my pc

microsoft testing windows 10 on mi4, hope mi3 can use windows 10 too

It will be awesome!

Does someone know if there are any available WIN 10 ROM to test?

http://www.sojump.com/m/4752507.aspx

The above link is for Mi4

Download link for Win 10 for Mi4 with flashing tool.
Link: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1hqmx4OW
Password: eh2u
I have no idea about, how to flash it. ?
Source: wap.ithome.com/html/152838.html
This one is a tech preview of Win10
Btw compressed package also required a password, which is leaked to bete tester only. :/

Is this rom compatible with mi3...?

Windows 10
Yes the zip needs password to extract. And is this for mi4 global or Mi4td

Windows 10 Mobile On Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro?

Well, I've been lost in MIUI Forum for the last days and I've been roaming through different devices. I seen in Mi4 that Windows 10 Mobile has been ported by Microsoft so I thought, why not on our beloved Redmi Note 3. I have never worked with a Windows 10 Mobile phone but the idea of perfect sync with a Windows 10 PC seems to me really tempting. So, my final question is, Could Windows 10 Mobile be ever ported to our Xiaomi Redmi Note 3?
If it could, the answer is yes. But of it will, the answer is probably no.
Just for a quick comparison. There were 2 versions of htc one m8, one with android, one with Windows. No developer ever managed to port windows to the Android based model (mostly due to no open sources). So if no one manged to port windows from the same phone, then you shouldn't expect windows 10 to get ported on our note 3.

Hehe. Good luck with that. But there's a reason why windows phone is only on Microsoft (lumia) devices.

So, is there any chance for porting Win 10 mobile?
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 Pro
Well, besides the fact it will not happen. There's nothing perfect about Windows 10 mobile and certainly not sync with W10 desktop! I had a Lumia for quite some time and as of today all I can say is that they made a lot of progress since WP8, but it's far from what you would expect and most interesting functions will force you to enable Cortana.
Looks like it's old thread but i would like to reply with most of thr possibilities.
Yes it's possible to port Windows.
I can build Windows 10 Custom ROMS I've necessary OEM Tools and microsoft packages.
But the problem is needed right firmware bootloaders and drivers even os drivers too.
If we can grab any one of from existing soc then also would be good.
But unfortunately I'm using 3s prime which having SD 430 which is not existing in any oem W10M.
If i get that in future I'll definitely boot it from SD Card too as dual boot.
Just hope so.

You guys have to realize that this won't be a simple task at all. In theory it is possible, yes, but it will most likely requires weeks and maybe months of hard work to get it working and it might not even be stable. As of today, unless you have the knowledge to start developing your own port of Win 10 for this phone, you should simply forget about it.

Install custom ROM on Honor Note 10...

Hi guys,
Trying to get this device to get a little support here are my experiences that I would like to share so far.
I have the Honor Note 10 8/128. It's unlocked. It has TWRP and it is rooted.
Now I would like to install something else than EMUI, maybe even Pie.
So here is what I was able to find out :
- it is possible to install the OpenKirin Project : Resurrection Remix and OmniRom and boot them ; but the fingerprint scanner doesn't work to wake device in Resurrection Remix (could not test in Omni ROM : I'll do that later tonight) ;
- it is possible to boot from at least one custom ROM made for "berkeley" (Honor View 10). And there, everything works... But of course, really few customization. Also, I was able to find out that, as soon as I install an AOSP based ROM, rebooting into TWRP fails : TWRP remains stuck at "splash" screen...
So I think it's really close to being able to run a s custom AOSP based ROM on the Honor Note 10, but that would require someone with a little more dev skills than I have to look into that
Anyone with such skills around here ? It would be really great to be able to have the Honor Note 10 running Resurrection Remix (Oreo) or Havoc (Pie)...
Regards.

Sorry but you do not just flash ROMs for other phones that can go wrong
Hi guys,
Well, you're obviously not interested in this...
You're happy with EMUI, so be it...
Me, I don't really like it
I really would like AOSP based which I am accustomed to.
And despite what is written here, I would like to stress that :
- when Treble was announced by Google, Huawei/Honor praised themselves to offer fully compliant devices with Treble ;
- Honor View 10 and Honor Note 10 share the same hardware, excet for display... and thus I have been able to boot PixelExperience for berleley (Honor View 10) into Note 10...
But of course, if you'd ratehr stick to EMUI and would like me to stop sharing my thoughts here, I will do.
Regards.
I haven't unlock my phone yet, but flashing GSI via fastboot seems to be the safest way.

Hi,
Yes, we share the same experience.
But you will notice that this channel is dead : no developer support for this device and custom ROM allergic people participating here
So basically : no interest from manufacturer ; no interest from developer ; no interest from users...
I switched to Xiaomi mi Max 3 : no real custom ROM there, but at least some interest from community and manufacturer who keeps updating the ROM.
Regards.

Please comment/advise.

Have we devised a work around for "Stuck at TWRP Splash"? Flashed Bliss from view 10 and wanted to look at Pixel Exp. but can not re-enter TWRP.
And to those of you running Pixel Exp. without issue, have you tried going back into TWRP?

Hi,
Can't say as I don't run the device anymore...
No interest from manufacturer.
No interest from developers.
No interest in development from the community here.
No interest for buyers.
My Honor Note 10 8/128 in Black is on an ad since about 40 days, and not a single reply even though I think I have positioned it fairly as a price
This is probably the best phone I've had, but the worst buy I've made for the aforementioned reasons...
Blame Honor. This was my first attempt. And will be the last. And I will of course spread the news all around me to as much people as I can.
It's funny : when I look around, my students who all had Honor or Huawei (apart from iPhones of course and of Samsung also) now more and more have OnePlus and Xiaomi devices...
No more Honor ; no more Huawei.
And they're absolutely not geeks by any means...
As a wild guess I'd say that they rely on geek friends who tell them not to buy Honor anymore.
And so I'll join that anti-Honor/Huawei league unless they change their policies about unlocking the bootloader.
And I am saying this because Huawei presented themselves as the best student in class for Treble support when it was announced.
Where are we now ?
Another promise not kept...
No support for Treble, no updates after 6 months device is released, no source code given, no unlocking of bootloader...
They can just use their device as suppositories.
Hope that will cure them from that closed source disease that is spreading more and more...
Regards.

Hi,
Sell those fairy tales to somebody else please...
5-6 updates in 3 months ? Probably. i've witnessed 2 updates.
And one of those forbids to change the default launcher... Is that an update or a severe regression ?
You can unlock the bootloader ?
Well, I've tried to boot the device in fastboot mode and to type "fastboot oem-unlock"... Guess what ? It did nothing...
To unlock this device, I had to go to an obscure website from probably a hacker/retailer that does it "grey", to pay 25 dollars and to wait for an unlock code...
All other phones I've had so far (Motorola, Sony, OnePlus, Xiaomi)... at worst you had to ask for an unlock code on the manufacturer's website and got it free !
Treble support ?
Come on... Did you even tried to install GSI to this device and had it working properly with no severe battery drain ?
Well, as you know from my other posts : I've tried it all... Even to flash Berkeley (Honor View 10) custom Rom's.
And when I was luck, the device booted...
But even then a lot of things weren't working properly : BT, display brightness...
And look at the facts :
- how much devs working on this device ? 0
- how many custom ROMs fro this device ? 0
- how many TWRP for this device ? 1 (unofficial)
- how many custom kernels for this device ? 0
- hon many posts about development for this device in the past week ? 2
So all in all how's support for this device from manufacturer or community ?
- community : 0
- manufacturer : -1 (for regressive releases of EMUI !).
Yopu can answer... You're the only one active on this channel... Truth is : no one wants this device anymore.
It made high promises and did not deliver...

My Answer:
You can see that you have no idea about the whole thing.
You have to buy a Unlock Code!I paid $ 22 and it was worth it!
HN10 is support Treble, but you have to wait for a Rom for this Device.
I buy with firmware 108,next update 120 next 123 next 125,next 132 next 132,next 151 and the latest 158!
If you have no idea, you should rather leave it!

Am I safe installing the Android Q beta 3 GSI on my MI 8 Lite? Will the Camera work?

Hey everyone!
I really love the new android q beta and i was wondering if it is possible to install it on my mi 8 lite?
On android developers it says, that it's necesarry for the phone to be launched with android p (mi 8 lite wasn't):
https://developer.android.com/preview/gsi-release-notes
Is it okay if I have my phone updated to android p or that is not the same?
If I install this GSI, will my camera work (it is quite important for me)?
I am not really good in this tipic nor do I know much about it, but I have installed many roms before.
Thanks

It wouldn't have the miui camera since it's not a miui release so you might have to install gcam. But the only way to answer your question is do a backup and flash it and see .
The linked images are for ab devices and ours (mi8lite) is an a device. AB devices basically have 2 system partitions and A devices only have one. So it won't work for us.

This link for download to Android Q GSI, for A/B partition or only A partition:
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/gsi/
So is. Android Q is a long time ago for A.
The only one that starts the beta 2 of the Q in the mi 8 lite.
Sorry for the sincerity, but the such project treble A beautiful piece of crap has left. So far I do not know where they got the idea that this would be useful ... Even for devices with A / B participation there is no stable work, all bugged.

Android 10 for Mi 8 Lite

Do you think Xiaomi updated the Mi 8 Lite to the recently released version of Android 10?
Will someone give development to customs roms of Android 10 for the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite?
Hold your jets pal. We dont even have a rock solid Pixel Experience on Pie.
My advice. Go test the latest builds, use the phone, report back and then maybe we will have Android 10.
Eventhough not officially announced, it's almost guaranteed at this point Xiaomi will update it to Android 10. Usually it's 2 years of version updates and 3 years of security updates. The estimated release date is somewhere between Q4/2019 (Mi 8) and Q1/2020 (Redmi Note 7).
That beeing said, don't hold your breath on it. Kernel sources usually get available at a much later date. Until we have high quality, rock stable custom Android 10 ROMs, most likely another year will pass.
I'm optimistic about this. @nysadev even made a guide on how to install Android 10 GSIs on platina, so i think soon we'll have (not stable) custom roms
there will be an android 10 miui for mix 2s. miui 11 will come first as android 9 later it will update to android 10.

It is very excited ..but this os is not based on android os...so i think it will most fevers for developer not daily user...
So I bought the redmi9 because..
The apps I run stated the would no-longer support android 6 in the next update
If
HarmonyOs gets:
Longtime support (security updates)
Has USB DAC support
Runs the apps I need
Then I'm all in...for harmonyOs
update..
I just watched HarmonyOs 2 beta review on YouTube..
It seems...its Just android 10 based
Wow,Miui is not the best but good but Emui is worst and both together,oh f...ck...g no,please.Cheers!!!

It seems...its Just android 10 based

It's not Android 10 based, that is EMUI 10 and 11. The UI seems quite like Android because it is meant to be comfortable for people coming from Android. The Kernel however, is like Linux but is a microkernel and can run on any device from like a few kilobytes of ram to like a lot of ram like computers
because harmony os is not based on android, maybe xiaomi won't do that, because maybe they can lose a lot of users, but i'm personally interested in trying, but not being a daily driver.
