[Q/A] [VM/Sprint/Boost] LG Tribute LS660/F60 Troubleshoot/Tips [ALL NON DEV PROBLEMS] - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd like to keep all VM/Sprint/Boost LG LS660/F60 problem questions in here that do not refer to development, so we can keep the development thread a little more neat and on the right track.
Thank You Everyone!

Note: This root method works on other LG Phones, but this thread is to focus only on the LS660/F60. Thanks.
Also I'll add some of my findings for the LG Tribute that might of got lost in the other thread while we wait for questions.

Agreed.

I'll Add Some Of My Findings Here As Well...
Camera sounds annoy me and I couldn't find any tweak, app, or anything to disable them on the LG's Camera, so I figured it out myself. I have wrote a guide and included a .zip with the files you need to switch.
- How to disable your LG Camera Sounds -
Found by high247 of XDA-Developers for the Virgin Mobile LG Tribute LG660.
-# 01. You are going to need to be ROOTED on your phone and have a Root Explorer. I personally use Root Browser from the Play Store.
And you'll need the .ogg files from this .zip file.
I've you are not ROOTED please check Unjustified Dev's guide here on how to do so.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772
-# 02. First move the .ogg files from this .zip to your phones SDcard.
cam_snap_0.ogg
camera_click.ogg
camstart.ogg
camstop.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg
(I've included backups of all the orginal .ogg's in Backup-ogg in the .zip. Just delete the .bak off the end and they are the orginal files in case you want to switch back.)
-# 03. Ok now on to disableing the sounds on your phones Camera (For whatever reasons you might what to do so. For me, they just annoy me)
Open your Root Explorer and go to your SDcard and multi-copy the .ogg's you put there.
Now navigate to System folder, click that,
now locate the Media folder, click that,
now locate the Audio folder, click that,
now locate the UI folder, click that, then once inside the UI folder click PASTE to copy the files there. It might be useful to delete the old ones before hand.
-# 04. Almost done, now you have to change the to .ogg file permissions to 0644 rw-r--r--
(If your not good with permissions, when you select permissions just make sure Read is checked in every box and Write is only checked on Owner, everything else unchecked.)
-# 05. ALL DONE. No need to reboot or anything, just go to your Camera and see that the annoying sounds are gone.
ENJOY!

We need more detailed information to help, how did you get stuck for one?

I got the update for my Tribute and like a idiot I tried to install it but it just keeps booting into TWRP, I wiped the phone and than I restored a backup from my SD card that I had but it still reboots to TWRP, the backup installed successfully but it just keeps booting to TWRP, any ideas how to fix this? The backup has the TWRP recovery and root. I also tied the new rom and it still boots to TWRP.

What to Change that ugly color on your default LG Messaging App?
You need to install Xposed Framework on your rooted LS660/F60
1. Here is the Xposed Framework installer you need for G3 Tweakbox to work: http://dl.xposed.info/latest.apk
2. Now download G3 Tweakbox from the Play Store and install it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...weaksbox&hl=en
3. Open Xposed Framework installer make sure the Xposed Framework is installed up to date and and then make sure you check the module for G3 Tweakbox and reboot your device before anything will work.
4. Now open G3 Tweakbox app, go to Messaging, scroll all the way to the bottom and you can change the color.
5. After you make changes Reboot your phone for them to take full effect. My messaging app now is Black.
And in this post I show what else I found that worked with G3 Tweakbox on the LS660, even some pictures : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59451127&postcount=766
NOTE: Not all tweak work. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

You were on ZV4 right? I believe you have to flash the boot.img for ZV4 from TWRP and that will fix it. You might have to flash from fastboot though I forget, its almost 3am here and its been a long day.
Extract the boot.img from this .zip and try that.

Ok so for whatever reason I just could not get the damn OTA updates to stop re-downloading, even after doing what cpshelley2 said to do. My problem was update.zip kept re-downloading to /cache/ and then the notification would pop up to install. I ran the adb command cpshelley2 suggested and turned OTA off, made sure the update.zip was deleted, long pressed the notification clicked app info went to manager cleared all.
And it would just keep downloading over and over again, giving me the notification to install over and over again, so what I found was apps named Disable Service and Autorun Manager on the play store, they are free and for root, that fixed this for me.
DisableSevice Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice&hl=en
AutorunManager Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autorun&hl=en
**WARNING DO BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ARE CHECKING AND UNCHECKING IN THESE PROGRAMS YOU COULD MESS SOMETHING UP!***
Open the Disable Services app, click where it says System near the top, then scroll down to Google Play services, click it, now scroll down almost all the way near the bottom and find SystemUpdateService then uncheck it will turn red.
Now open Autorun Manager and select Advance Mode, then in the top right click Settings, make sure Show System Entries and Enable System App Disable are both Checked, now find Google Play Services, click it to see a list of receivers, scroll down til you find com.google.android.gms.update.SystemUpdateService$Receiver and com.google.android.gms.update.SystemUpdateService$ActiveReceiver and com.google.android.gms.update.SystemUpdateService$SecertCodeReceiver ,then un-check them.
Now your done.
Reboot phone and update.zip will stop downloading in /cache/ (**delete it one last time if it is there still**) and you will stop being notified about the ZV5 update.
Hope that helps someone else too. Any questions feel free to ask and remember I'm on the LG LS660 Virgin Mobile.

Hidden Custom Lock Screen Wallpaper Feature
Oh and I have found how to make custom lock screens for everyone else with the LG Tribute, its hidden in the Photos app, download or take whatever picture, open it in Photos, click the 3 dots in the top right bringing down a menu, click Set as.. click More.. Set as Lock screen wallpaper. Crop and set!
Took me forever to find that. Could not find any info anywhere on the internet. lol
Hope that helps someone else too!

Hidden Menu
Dial this number below.
5689#*660#
That unlocks the Hidden Menu.
If you Dial ##3424# it will ask you for a Six Digit Service Code or known as a MSL Service Code. ( No known working codes have been found as of this posting. )
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

How to Access the Sprint OMADM Hidden Menu, No Root Needed.
Download Activity Launcher from the play store.
Open Activity Launcher and at the top click on Recent Activities at the top and switch it to All Activities... Once you did that scroll all the way down the list to Software Updates and click on it... A list will appear showing all the activities it does... Scroll down to Sprint OMADM Hidden Menu, there are 3 you can access though 4 say Sprint OMADMA Hidden Menu.
One will let you change the carrier branding.
Hope that helps you and let us know what happens if you try it please.
NOTE: You can Edit Chameleon Node options in the Sprint OMADM Hidden Menu com.lge.lgdmsclient.ui.test.SPROmadmHiddenMenu such as "Brand Name" in Edit Chameleon Node... Click it... Then click GET... If you have Virgin Mobile that should pop up under Brand Name... Click it and edit to say what you want... Then click SET and reboot phone to take effect.
CHANGE SETTINGS ATE YOUR OWN RISK AND NEVER FACTORY RESET OUTSIDE OF YOUR DEFAULT BRANDING OPTION.

And that my friends is mostly what I have found so far for our phones that are useful.
Now any questions feel free to ask and I'll answer ASAP. 3am here so I'm off to bed now. Night my friends.

Is there a working custom rom yet? I would love to get rid of the LG's default version and try CM12.

How do install a custom recovery once rooted? Can I just install Flashify and then select "Download TWRP" from there, or is there something else I need to do?

You can use flashify if you have the zip for twrp

[Q] Wind S III won't download anything!

Well guys, introducing myself, I'm SunSpree, and I dun goof'd
So this afternoon, I felt it'd be a great idea to goof around and root my S III because hey! What's the fun in vanilla if you can get more?
So I used Chain Fire's root + Odin and succesfully rooted my phone. No problem here (yet). I quickly installed Adblock plus (this isn't the problem), and Titanium Back Up and used them. So far, I haven't deleted anything, so that can be ruled out. So now my phone can't download anything. Yes, I can go ahead and download APKs' online and put them unto it, but aside from that I can't do any downloading (including updates) from any source. If I try to download with the playstore, it'll display the blue downloading bar for some 3 minutes without displaying what percentage of downloading is left, and right after it'd show an error that it couldn't be downloaded.
If I go on the playstore, it'll say that the app has downloaded and I need to install it, but the whole download bar thing would happen again. Then I tried going on pimp my rom (downloaded the apk online), but it can't download anything either. It just says 0/100 and 0%.
Someone please help! I'd highly prefer if I didn't have to restore my phone (I only have backups for my contact book, a few games, and that's it).
Thank you XDA community!

Pretty sure Adblock Plus IS the problem. This kind of thing is typically caused by a modified hosts file. Rename or delete the one you find in /system/etc and reboot and see if that doesn't help.

Not familiar with that one, sorry. But unlocking your bootloader won't have any difference in whether or not things will download, I do know that for sure.

[Q] Lg optimus G stock Keyboard

I am new to this. I tried to root my phone and found out that my stock lg keyboard was deleted although rooting was successful. Next I tried to port LG G2's keyboard. Installed it successfully but all the emojis weren't appearing so I edited the fallback_fonts.xml
Now the keyboard keeps on crashing and the Lgkeyboard option is grayed out.
What do you guys suggest I do?
Can anyone provide me the fallback_fonts.xml from their LGOG or is there an alternate solution? I think I "might" have messed that up as before it was just fine apart from the emojis and stuff.
Please help me out. Quite worried and curious.
Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for the awaited reply.
Yeah, Basically I own an ATT LG optimus G (E970). I rooted and found that my stock Google keyboard had vanished. Anyhow, I installed the G3 keyboard app port created by cloudy and granted superuser permissions and installed. I had enabled the LG keyboard as default. Upon installing that I found out that the stock LG keyboard too vanished. When I went to system/app folder I found out that the LGEIME.apk had a blue android icon. I think that it wasnt able to recognize the apk. In case you don't know how the blue android apk icon looks like I can post a screenshot here.
I hope I have cleared things up. in-case you want to know more I am more willing to clear things up for you.
Thanks for your time.

Hi,
Since you only mentioned you rooted your device I'm guessing you are still on 4.1.2?
Did you try installing the Google keyboard from the play store and see if it works.
And I saw you asked for the fall back file on your first post. I looked around and they all seem to be different. I have a custom rom on so I don't know how the stock LG one looks like. Can you copy the code inside the fallback_fonts.xml file you have on here?

Yeah I am on stock jellybean 4.1.2. I did try installing the google keyboard. I was successful in doing that. I'd like you to know the interesting thing thats happening. When I try to push the LGEIME.apk to system app the keyboard option in languages and input is greyed out and the keyboard force closes when i select i as my default. On the other hand when I removed it from system app and installed it as normal apk its working fine. Any idea why is that happening. I have uploaded the file you asked for in txt format.

The reason when pushing the file to system app doesn't work could be the permission of the file. To do this use the app "es file explorer" from the play store. Once you push the file in system app, use us file explorer and make sure the permissions of the apk in system app are set to RW-R-R then Reboot your phone.
In ES file Explorer to set permission long press the file you want, at the bottom left click "more" to display options and select properties. A window will pop up and next to the option "permissions" click change. The setup should look like this :
Owner: ☑ ☑ [blank]
Group: ☑ [blank] [blank]
Other: ☑ [blank] [blank]
Hope this works.

The keyboard should work the port is compatible with devices running at least jelly bean. We can try one more thing. Did you install "busybox" from the app store? Once installed open the app and tap install. Then install install the LG g3 keyboard again using the cloudy port apk.
Another method is flashing the zip file using your custom recovery. Here is the zip: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23578570567716415
After flashing wipe cache and dalvic cache then reboot. Select it under language and input, hopefully it's not grayed out.

Hey.
Thanks for the reply. You know I actually did that. Installed busybox and then ran the port. the problem is when I install the port I can't see the LG keyboard in Languages and Input. when I go to system apps the LGEIME.apk has a blue android thumbnail. I mean the icon, its a blue android. I have attached the icon for you to see and what this means.
the only thing I didnt try was flashing as I did not install any custom recovery.
Thanks.

I have seen that icon before on my end as well and most of the time the apk was corrupted and I couldn't install it. I had to download the apk again.
Considering you don't have a custom rom installed, it's hard to tell why you are getting the behavior that you are experiencing on your device. I am almost out of suggestions other than if you want the keyboard to work maybe try a custom recovery and flash a custom rom.

Zv4 native hotspot hack "pulled until we have recovery"

This is how to enable free hotspot on the sprint variant of the G3. Keep in mind this could brick your device. I do not even recommend doing it until we have a custom recovery available. So if you do have any problems hopefully you all can use the LG flash tool to return to stock. I have tested this and it does work.
steps to get free Factory Native Hot Spot:
1. Download this. Sorry pulled the link until we have recovery.
2. Extract the file you just downloaded
3. If you didn't download it from your phone, then place the two files on your internal storage of your phone
4. Install a file explorer like Root Explorer that allows you to access the root of your system and allows you to edit factory framework files and apks.
5. Open the Root Explorer or whatever File explorer you are using and navigate to the internal storage and copy the Services.jar and Services.odex that you extracted from the zip above.
6. Navigate to Root and go to /System, then Choose the Framework folder. Make sure the system is mounted R/W
7. Now hit paste.Hit overwrite existing files. Once the two files are pasted, change the permissions so that they match the other framework file permissions.
8. Reboot your device.
9. If your device boots back up fine you are set to go.
10. Once you setup the WiFi hotspot settings you want in the settings menu, you can launch the hotspot with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jaconet.fixtether which will do all the profile resetting for you and get you up and running. (thank you IM0001 for finding this step)
Note: This mod does work. However most of the times after you enable hotspot you need to go to settings and update your profile to get data to pass through the connection. Sorry I have yet to figure out this bug.
WARNING: I have no clue how this mod responds to ART. Use at your own risk.
Once again, I am not responsible for anything you do to your phone. This can very easily brick your device if not done correctly. This is a chance you the user are taking.
As soon as we have a custom recovery, I will make this into a flashable zip for all to use.
Great job, hopefully you can unlock this phone the way you did the G2
I'm sure I can. I will start as soon as my other g3 arrives
Thanks man
Thanks for this! Works just like you said. I also had to update profile before data would go through. I haven't tried it more than once, so I don't know yet if I'll have to update profile each time.
Just a word of warning, I don't know if it was due to ART or FX browser, but the instant I copied the files over the phone rebooted and failed enough time to switch back to Davilk and then boot, but now most apps will not launch. Just a heads up to be careful. I am not sure why it rebooted before I could change permissions but I believe thats why it's screwed up now.
Working for me, thanks!

I have never tried it with art. Sorry if you had issues with it. I will put a warning up on the op.
Just another heads up. Once you setup the WiFi hotspot settings you want in the settings menu, you can launch the hotspot with jTether which will do all the profile resetting for you and get you up and running. Its the same "bug" on the EVO LTE, M7, M8, etc and it works for the G3 as well.
Interesting...off to try this, hoping it goes smooth
awesome, thanks for all the hard work!

If you get "WiFi Tether Router" you can change the "method" to "2 - Android Version 4.2 Or Higher" and it works great for LTE tethering.

Thanks, works great. Did i have to still follow the instructions in the OP? If not, can i just uninstall that app he has us using to get native tethering working?
Did you manually install the files in the op,change permissions, reboot, then ran jtether to start the Hotspot? (it has to be started with the app. Not the settings menu.)
Do you have the stock files that we over wrote... I think I'm having a issue.. But not sure it's related to this but want to eliminate all variables
So far so good! Need to test on LTE
So am I really blind?? Where is Sprint g3 root? Thanks
Edit: I found it

Doesn't it say to use one of the downloadable boot img files from the linked site? It's a boot.img file.

I have tried Root Explorer and it allows me to read and write to the SD card. I have Root Call blocker and that works as well, I have tried Xposed Framework and so far no go, it does a reboot and you will lose root. This is still a work in progress but it looks a lot more promising than a couple of months ago.
I did not use any img files due to mine being a note edge and I think those files are for those who have taken the lollipop upgrade on their Note 4's. Since we have not received the lollipop upgrade to our edge's yet you should be good to at least temporary root because it is only working on KitKat.
I was able to temp root with king root 4.0.1 apk ... and was able to remove bloatware files from: system/app and: system/priv-app but after reboot they are all back.
Update.... after temp rooting. . Install Titanium Backup and Freeze system apps will enable you to "turn off" apps that you otherwise wouldn't be able to disable through the stock app manager in settings menu.
See screenshot below. ...
Screenshot
Screenshot of TouchWiz disabled because I use a different Home Launcher. And YES it keeps disabled through a reboot.
Was able to turn off The KNOX apps as well... seems to keep root longer without rebooting. HOWEVER root doesn't last forever.. meaning apps like Titanium Backup will lose root... and you will have to reboot and run King root again to get temp root to freeze more apps etc.
This is still a work in progress, hopefully the losing root problem will be fixed soon.
This is nice but after messing with it all week I gave up. I could easily get temp.root and get SU installed but you lose root after about an hour even if you touch nothing. You will also get random reboots a lot and then have to start over.

If you install Titanium Backup and "freeze" all the Knox apps [see post 7, 8, & 9] you can keep root long enough to freeze all unwanted bloatware. That way you can at least "turn off" [disable] those apps from running in background etc. It's something more then we had.
Keep at it guys! I'll join when I get some time tomorrow and Monday

Yup, this worked. All week I was trying to "remove" these applications via tibu but yesterday I just froze them. I still lost root but see everything I froze is still listed as "Turned off" in Application manager. That will do for now, Thanks!
when you temp root, use TiBu to "convert to user app" this should move all the files to the user apps directory instead of system apps then try to uninstall and see if they come back after reboot. Just a hunch but I can't try since I don't have the retail version.

I do not see the option in Titanium Backup to ”convert to user app" .. Am I missing something?

You need to long press on the app. Towards the end of the setting that popup you should see the convert to user app setting.
Easiest way I found was to freeze all the apps you don't want, filter for frozen apps then go through the list converting them to user apps
Edit: this doesn't work. They will install themselves back after doing this.
I figured they would come back.. freezing app is as good as it gets for now.
long press or swipe right to get to the additional options. also thank you guys for confirming that for me. i wasnt for sure since I dont have the retail version to test out on.
also i think i remember reading in the note 4 forum that they were able to get it perma deleted by uninstalling all updates then uninstalling the app or something along those lines. I will go back and read it again to be sure of what i read, i may have misread.
I used this method to disable knox and bloatware on my Verizon Edge even without root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/disable-knox-ota-root-t2972263
As far as temp root is concerned using King root, I suppose while on a rooted state, one can make changes to the system such as:
1) Enabling 3rd party apps like ES File Explorer to write to SD card by modifying platform.xml as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524277
2) Enabling hidden menu (if this is important to you) by modifying /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu file.
Even if you lose root, the changes you made to these files should stick, correct?

[MOD][Debloat | Black Google bootanimation] Taintless

Going to try and keep this short, sweet, and to the point.
I modified and created a zip for personal use all the way back to my Nexus 5 days and through my N5X use. I like my ROMs extremely minimal. Removal of media files and applications that I didn't deem necessary to have. Even went as far and told the script to remove the stock launcher and replace it with Nova. This little guy worked wonders for me and saved me loads of time. My app drawer (on initial start up) only consisted of the essentials; phone, contacts, messaging, a file manager, and Google Play. Only leaving the rest to be downloaded as needed.
----------------
Since ROMs aren't abundant yet, I'm deciding to share my zip to those who actually want to remove system apps and not settle on them just being disabled. Also, to keep from going into a file manager after every OTA/update removing each app individually.
-----------------
Had to modify this little guy to work on our phones.. It took me a bit to figure out (of course, right? Nothing is 'straight forward' with these phones )
-----------------
1.) I use this for personal use but did take some consideration in other users so majority of what I don't use is still there, this list would be a lot longer (and yes, some apps are for my older phones and didn't feel like removing them from the script).
2.) I will not remove an app from the removal script - if you don't like whats being removed, don't flash the zip.
3.) If I have forgot something that comes on the phone that CAN be downloaded from the Play Store (and can not be uninstalled), let me know. I'll add it to the script.
4.) If apps you are currently using are in the removal script, don't worry. The script makes them a user app instead of a system app (in my case it did anyway).
What's removed: :highfive:
*Clock (Google)
*Maps
*YouTube
*DownloadProviderUi
*HTMLViewer
*Calendar (Google)
*Drive (Google)
*OmaDmclient
*Photos (Google)
*Gallery2
*BasicDreams
*Calendar (Google)
*GoogleJapaneseInput
*Chrome
*CMFileManager
*Email
*Exchange2
*Galaxy4
*GooglePinyinIME
*Music2 (Google Music)
*NoiseField
*OpenWnn
*PhaseBeam
*Gmail
*Videos (Google Movies)
*KoreanIME
*OpenDelta
*Launcher3
What's added: :victory:
*Google stock bootanimation (black background with no text!)
*1 additional ringtone
*2 additional notifications
*4 additional alarm ringtones
Installation: :silly:
1. backup your ROM (there is no 'undo' button, so if you want whatever you want back, do a restore)
2. flash through TWRP (do not wipe cache/dalvik unless you want to get stuck on the Google logo - a hard power reset solves that problem anyways)
3. reboot

Thanks to @mauam for the awesome bootanimation!

Again, you all are on XDA for a reason and know the risks of modifying your device in any sense. Since everyone else does this, I'll do it too:
I'm not responsible for your device.
For those that are having force closing issues on certain apps, enabling immersive mode within apps seems to fix the problem..
Things you need:
You need Android Terminal Emulator in the Play Store or cmd on Windows
i would prefer to do this from a PC so you can copy and paste the commands, but it can be done with any terminal emulator also.
Step 1: Connect your phone to your PC enable USB debugging mode
Step2: Open up cmd in Windows or the emulator on your phone and copy/paste or type:
- adb shell
itll give you a '$'
then copy and paste or type:
- settings put global policy_control immersive.full=apps,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
should enable automatically.
so a debloat script and replacing boot ani with a black one? ill give it ago next time i redo my phone lol (i already debloated and have that boot ani)
but nice little addition, i personally love removing bloat my last debloat script i dubbed 'The Purge" lol
Sounds good to me and I hate bloat! thanks for the work!
Caution.,,
This breaks Fi app ... sort of.
the app wont run after zip. uninstall, reload from app store... still cant run app... app prompts to activate phone.. activate runs and app starts to work.
Same with "google" app (the default app that show when you swipe left from home screen.

I don't run the Google Fi app, nor did I even touch anything related to Fi..
My Google app works as intended, and I redownloaded gmail, and that works too.. Idk what could be the issue on your end..

Version/update doesn't matter..
Corrupted as in how?
I still use twrp 3.1.1. Beta 2
Corrupted as in it won't let me boot up into the OS. It's with other mods too
So far I've received an issue from a user on here (youll be able to read their issue on the last page) and i assume its user error due to me not having any issues at all..
My question is - has anyone else tried this script with complete success?? Given the 'thanks' i received, im assuming (again lol) that its working fine. In my experience on XDA, people only comment on whats wrong, and keep quiet when things are running as they should.. I'm now asking to voice your success just for reassurance for me
let me know guys, thanks! :good::fingers-crossed:
Just wanted to confirm that the debloat script works on the Feb update.. Just did it myself :highfive:
However, I did have a couple force closes on the Google app and Twitter (weird) -- after some testing, i got it working by enabling 'settings put global policy_control immersive.full=apps,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox' again
After I enabled that again, everything functions fine. :good:
Maybe this is needed for some apps that force close after flashing this debloat script (if you like immersive mode in apps)..
I'll post instructions in the 2nd post on the first page
Hey, thanks for this! Any chance of an update to April release?

Yeah I find that happens too. Plus despite having busybox titanium isn't even deleting system apps anymore, they are still there after reboot. So for now I stick to freezing...
