Google Play Music doesn't stream songs at all - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there,
So I recently flashed my XT1095 to stock+rooted 5.0, and I'm having an issue with GPM. Every time I try to stream a song from my personal backup, it tells me it's unavailable. Downloading music for offline listening works fine, but streaming doesn't. I tried uninstalling updates and deleting data, but nothing. Anyone have a clue as to what could be the issue?
Thank you.
UPDATE: logcat

Try downloading a different app (ie, Spotify) to check to see if streaming works on there.

Here's a logcat of me openng the app and trying to play a track. (P.S.: it works in safe mode!)
edit: it appears to be V4A, which is odd since it worked before I flashed my phone. Let's see.
edit2: yup. Setting it as compatible causes that error.

I'm glad it started working. Android is a unpredictable system and you have to guess and check to see a application is working or not.

Google Music Force Close

Running Calkulin's ROM and Pershoot's latest kernel. Got my invite, loaded Google Music app, uploaded a ton of songs, can see my library on the Cloud, but force closes everytime I try to play a song. Any ideas?
Anyone else seeing this, or am I the only one?
Pershoot's kernel doesn't play nice with froyo. Clemsyn's kernel doesn't play nice with ginger. Here's the rule of thumb: froyo use clemsyn, ginger use pershoot.
CM7.0.3 stable plays Google Music from cloud not perfect but Ok.
Can anyone using Calkulin's ROM and Clemsyn's kernel confirm that Google Music is working? Pershoot has been really good to me with Calkulin, so I'm hoping to hear from someone prior to making the switch.
Went ahead and made the switch to Clem, still get immediate force close whenever I try to stream music. Like before, I can see my entire music collection, but can't play anything. Any other thoughts?
Are you overclocking? Try not to.
Also, did you try sample tracks from Google music or just yours?
Can you play mp3 from sdcard using Google music player?
Disabled oc with Pimpmygtab, still force closes. In light of the fact that no one else has chimed in that it's working for them with this combo, I assume this is a common problem. Local files seem to play ok on Tab, but it defeats the purpose of Google Music and the 60 gb of uploaded music. At least it works fine on my Droid X!

Well, that means something going wrong with streaming with this rom/Google player.

Working great on VeganTab with Pershoot's kernel.
That's another Ginger-based ROM through, right? Perhaps Google Music just doesn't work with Froyo-based ROMs.

I get the same problem. It only happens some of the time, and sometimes the video loads, plays a bit then stops. Also the network error message appears in place of the video, or the video works but the related features panel shows the network error. Doesn't matter if my wifi is full strength or not... and as op says, youtube from the browser works as you would expect.
As this happens when opening Android Market links to demo/marketing videos, you would expect this problem to have been reported straight way.

Try uninstalling and re-installing Flash.

[Q] Sound issues

Hello I have the Samsung Galaxy S2 gt19100. My issue is with my sound. When I first got the phone about a month ago everything worked fine. However a couple off days ago my sound except for in call sound does not work. That is I have no ringtones, no music, no sms notification sounds. It makes no difference whether I have my headphones in or not. The music player in particular seems to have the most problems. When I touch a song to play it, it doesn't play at all. It goes to the screen with the album's picture, but the song never starts. It always remains at 00:00. Eventually the music player will crash. This leads me to believe that it software issue and not a hardware one. I've tried rooting the phone and installing a new image, I've tried formatting the SD card, however this has not fixed the sound problem. Note: This problem existed before I started rooting and installing new images.
If anyone knows anything about this issue I would greatly appreciate any help. If I've left off some information you need please don't hesitate to ask for it.

Okay...
Couple more questions... did you install anything new.. anything different that you did before the sound stopped working?
Try a different media player for music... like winamp etc and post the results...

I don't recall installing anything new. This problem seemed to crop up after I started using headphones to listen to music. But now it makes no difference whether I have the headphones plugged in or not. Still no sound either way. I downloaded Winamp and I tried PlayerPro as well. Same situation. No sound and the song track doesn't advance and remains at 00:00

i think it's time to perform a factory data reset.
First, backup your important data.
Then,
Goto Settings - Backup and Reset - Factory data reset.

[Q] MP3 only works if under a minute?

Now I know there are dozens of other posts stating that MP3's are not working, and yes I have googled and (xda'd?) it. But none so far have fix my problem. So the other day, when I downloaded an MP3 onto my phone, it wouldn't play. It was all fine and dandy until I realized that none of my MP3's would play. So from there, I tried a variety of common methods to try to fix this mess. I tried clearing the cache, formatted my sd card, deleted and transferred my music onto the phone (by the way, the MP3's DO work, I popped the sd into my cousins phone and my computer and they worked fine.), and factory reset. But for some reason, my ringtones still worked. That's when I realized that only MP3's under a a minute would play while others would not. So my question is how come my phone will only play MP3 files under a minute and how can I fix this? Please and thank you and I apologize if I broke any rules (I think I broke any from the video I just watched )
I'm on 4.1.2 Padawan ROM if it's relevant.
[EDIT] Well this may sound strange but I think it was my battery because I just switched batteries and now everything is working fine (except for occasional screen flickering but that's the result of 3rd party batteries (-_-#))
Have you tried a factory reset? I use MP3 files all the time. Even stream them via BT in my car to the stereo. Plays the entire song with no issues.

My Guess is its the rom you're using. Try a different rom. Some roms do strange things. factory reset wont touch the rom, and if your problem is still there its your best shot.
It's definitely not the rom because I had the rom for a while and the mp3 function worked for a while. It's just after I downloaded an mp3 file it stopped working

do you have a backup to revert to from when you installed the rom?
Well it definitely is not the rom at this point because it managed to survive CM10, oddly enough my ringtones which are actually longer than a minute still play. Is my music corrupted for only my phone?

U can rule it out ifu want but if it were me id try flashing a diff rom and see what happens. It doesnt hurt to try. If the mp3s work in other phones its obviously a software issue with your phone whether its your music app or something else. Try downloading a diff app to play your music and see if that works.

Maybe I was a bit vague, when I said "it survived", I meant the glitches. BTW Late response, but I stream MP3's over bluetooth as well, an A2DP headset to be exact.

This is normal behaviour when your internet speed is not sufficient to load all data in the required time, it's called buffering.

Hi,
I'm sure that that is not the problem.
I know what buffering is etc. (i'm not a noob with this stuff ).
The thing is that, even though the video is buffered completely, it just pauses. It doesn't matter how long i let it buffer.
Thanks for responding tho
PS: My internet speed is sufficient (35-40 mbps).

Hmm, maybe you could install the MX Player codecs, which solve some strange video decoding bugs. Otherwise you can try to upload a log file, so others can help you with this issue.

04-15 14:54:43.698 E/MtkOmxVdec(142): MtkOmxVdec::GetConfig Unknown config index: 0x0700000F
I searched the web for it and one solution seems to be installing the latest VLC Player for Android as the problem seems to be a broken/missing video codec. But I am wondering how this could be the problem as you have been able to play the video file (although with random pauses).
