Galaxy S6 Edge "leak free" edition - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. Few days ago i received Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge for testing purposes from Samsung Serbia. Sadly, S6 Edge is unable to run any kind of benchmarks, possibly do to being a "test" sample that has protection against leaking information before unveiling. Contacted Samsung and asked if there is something i can do, unfortunately they said they can't resolve the issue and my only option is to wait for retail samples for testing. My question is, is there anything i can do to remove those benchmark restrictions? I can't install any benchmark related app from PlayStore, and even can't run browser benchmarks such as Octane, Peacekeeper, BrowserMark, etc.
The purpose of receiving these phones is for writing a review on a Serbian IT website that i work for, and the benchmarks are semi-important part of my review, and being unable to run them will kinda cripple the testing part for S6 Edge. The regular S6 works fine, those restrictions are not present. Any options/suggestions for S6 Edge? I was thinking of flashing a retail ROM, but that seems unlikely, since there are no stock roms online for S6 Edge yet, and flashing procedure is still unknown. The version of S6 Edge i have is SM-G925F, and the build number is LRX22G.G925FXXM1AOBI. I am open for any tips and advices. Thanks.

Maybe rooting the device might give full access so that you can move the wanted APKs to the /system folder?
Chainfire released it.

There seems to be little consistency on to which phone will actualy work with Samsung Gear Manager paired with the Gear S.
Samsung own words on the matter seems to be "Samsung phone with Android 4.3 or later", but let's be honest, one could ask Samsung the same question twise, and get three answers back. I should think the voice of this community would give a better indication on what works and not.
Could someone with permissions greate a sticky thread for this, so we could fill in phone model, maker, firmware, watch firmware and Samsung Gear Manager version. Along with a description on that experience.
Sprint Galaxy S5 (stock root) - 4.4.2
Gear S (Sprint variant) - R750PVPU1ANJ7
Gear Manager - 2.2.14102499
GS is running as I had hoped it would. For my needs/wants, its a great experience. Only problem I have is with email. Im unable to compose email. But I can reply. I just need 4.4.4 on my S5 and it will work. But this fix is not high on my priority at all.

If you have a Samsung device (phone or tablet) that is 4.3 and above and not compatible with your Gear S, chime in on their FB support page. Maybe Samsung is not even aware of these issues.
phone model: Note II
firmware: 4.4.2
watch firmware: r750tuvu1anj7 (t-mo version)
Samsung Gear Manager version: 2.2.14110499
Seems to be fully compatible.
Hmmm
All Galaxy phones running "official" 4.3+" are guaranteed to work, it's just that the available features will depend on your connected phone's model, and various versions of the required software on your phone as well.
To compile a full list of who has what phone and what does and doesn't work would be a massive undertaking!
I agree, they shouldn't limit some features to some Galaxy phones and their respective Android versions. But it's stated clearly in the manual and in the promo materials.
Note II (VZW): SCH-i605
Android Firmware: 4.4.2 (R3ds ROM)
Gear S: AT&T version
Gear Manager: 2.2.141102499
Samsung/Galaxy Apps store (this matters too): 14093005.02.008.1

Well, yesterday I contacted Samsung support spesificly on the Young 2(SM-G130H) - 3.5", Android 4.4.2, BT, WLAN, GPS, Cheap:
"Shure. No problem. Android 4.3 or newer"
So I went to the store today and tried apps.samsung.com/gear (URL from the frontpage of Gear S the quickguide) from the Young 2:
"this devices does not support Gear. "
Well, my contribution is that the Young 2 doesn't work
disclaimer: yes, I know the Young 2 is garbage, but I only wanted it for firmware update, syncronise contacts, transfere apps and music. Nothing fancy.

Cannot always go by what a Samsung Rep may say. Same goes for many carrier reps.
For optimum performance/connectivity, you'll need newer and much advanced Samsung Phone. Using older/cheaper devices will more thank likely not work (or be very limited in use).

[Q] Slow number in Custom ROM for S6 & S6 Edge what is the cause?

I am using Note 3 LTE for 18 month , it has many active Custom ROM thread.
(Yes I am flashaholic user.)
Now, I am looking to buy new cellphone.
The S6 Edge look very impressive, but I found slow growing in the thread in Development section.
Does it cause by Exynos chip ? or What do you think?
yes true..but since 5.1.1 don't let us deodex and yes more phones are effected from this..we have to wait..for updating the process

Will I be able to update this I9300 to >4.4?

I'm new in Android world, and I have to buy cheapest Android phone that will be able to handle Android 4.4 or newer.
I have found that the best option is Galaxy S3 and that there's one on Aliexpress. I'm aware that it might be a clone but it will not be my primary phone. It just has to be able to handle newer Android.
Can't post a link, search for the top ordered Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 on Aliexpress.
Has anyone tried it? Will software see it as genuin S3? Thank you!
if it's a real i9300 then you are only able to upgrade via custom rom. Official support via samsung stopped at 4.3
If You need official KK (4.4), then You must search form S3 4G/LTE (9305). Basic S3 ended with 4.3 (as maultasche said).
This must be S3? If not, try search Moto E - it's cheap and small chance to buy fake one - in S3 (generally in Samsung phones) it quite ease to buy fake/copy when your search for cheap phone.
You are right, thank you! And I will check Moto E but what about S3 Neo?
S3 Neo has 4.4.
You can check every Samsung phone here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Just type model name/code (S3 or 9301) and it will find all/latest version of firmware.
It you want a phone for calling/texting (and using in general), you should list your needs/requierements/max price and ask what to choice - XDA probably has a place for it.
If you want a phone for testing/development Android apps, you should think about Motorola/Nexus or some new models with offical long support (ie Xperia family).
I just need a >4.5" phone for general use, with at least 4.4 (to use with smart watches and bands). With as low cost as possible. Galaxy S3 Neo is my leader now.
I don't know where I You from, what models ara in your country and in what prices, so it's hard to suggest any model.
I suggest You to use some kind of price comparation site (in our country), choice your requierements and list devices. Then choice what you like (what looks nice to You) and has a good price.
Then paste list of interesting devices.
For example there are couple of cheap models named "Core" or "Grand" (from Samsung) with screen size obove 4.5 inch and new Android.
Downsides are: not so "strong" CPU/GPU (for games) and lack of light sensor - it shoudn't be a issue as You want to use smartwatch anyway.
In my opinion s3 is best choice As long as there is ANY chance to get some cm (official/ unofficial)

You can upgrade it even to marshmallow why KitKat?
As we are expecting the official cm to release tomorrow so I think that s3 is the best choice. And if you just like touchwiz s3 has 4.4.4 ports from touchwiz and you can install them. But I recommend you to install lollipop 5.1.1 rom if you buy a s3 device. You chose the best device if you want any help on how to flash these roms just reply my post.
If I helped you hit the tnx button.:good:

Always on display feature is first and foremost only for S7 and S7 Edge. If you intend to use it on S6 Edge then obviously it won't work unless you'll use S7 Edge port for S6 Edge. And the reason you are able to use it on your Note 3 is just because you are using S7 Edge Rom Port.

I guess this is exactly what he asked. My understanding of what he wrote is the he IS using the S7 ROM port on S6 Edge but the Always On Display is not working while on the same port on Note 3 it is working. If that's not correct and he is using another ROM on S6 Edge, then you're totally right

Hi, it's exactly what I meant Rapier you're right thank you
On the s7 port for our s6 edge the code to make it work maybe has not been ported correctly. And on the note 3 maybe the dev there made it work i hope I'm not mistaken but the dev here abandoned the s7 port for our device.
Its kernel related, On note 3, galaxy s3 and s5 its working because there was devs working on it, and our s6 seems like no dev is currently interresed in it
It's not about being interested or not, it's about the fact that developent on Exynos is a PITA compared to Qualcomm due to lack off sources and support from Samsung. It was always like this on Exynos and that's why older Galaxy devices have plenty of ROMs and we dont.
So until we'll have this, it's hard to do almost anything.
To come back to the problem in discussion, the ROM is a port...that is taking part of the rom, libs and apps from the S7 and merging them with libs, kernel and drivers from a working S6/S6 edge ROM.
The result is a bootable and most working S7 ROM, but where there is speciffic hardware integration for a certain function to work...we dont have it as it's build in certain libs or in the kernel and we use our own
I hope that this pretty much explains why this and other features are not properly working or even not working at all. We should be glad we have something and hope for more...

An always on display for the s6 edge as the s7 would certainly be a nice addition, it just looks cool along with the functionality of it. I hope we see something in the near future for the s6 edge.
I personally would be more than happy with an always on feature similar to the edge clock & notifications feed (the one turned on when the screen is off with a slide gesture) but instead being
permanently on providing burn in issues were properly addressed.

S7 Plus Custm Rom(s) not available?

Hello friends,
I recently dumped my old generic Android tablet to pick up a Galaxy Tab S7+. I'm finding the UI and overall experience OK. With my own phone and wife's prior tablet, we had installed custom firmwares such as Lineage-based one for her phone and Pixel Experience for mine. However, after Googling the heck out of this, there really doesn't seem to be anything for the S7+. It is just not a large enough user base or are there issues such as hardware limitations that are preventing any custom firmware?
Thank you.
You can always try a GSI. I bought the Tab S7 for its S-pen though, so I have to stick with OneUI
