[Q] Moto E 2º Gen, Root / Recovery? - E 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I'd like to know if Moto Tool could Root and apply Recovery CWM ?
I did Moto E 1ª Gen bootloader unlock and it worked, Now it's unlocked, does the Moto E 1ª Gen Root Procedure Works in Moto 2º Gen as well ?
PS: I did a search B4 create this Thread

root procedure is same
Root procedure is same
unlock bootloader
install custom recovery
flash superSU zip to get root access

Yes the Root procedure worked fine, the cellphone it's rooted confirmed by root checker, but when I do the recovery flash recovery-cwm or recovery-twrp I can't enter in recovery mode I see a message in cellphone like "Boot Up Failed"
Fastboot Reason: Reboot mode set to fastboot
USB Connected
cmd: getvar: partition-type:recovery
cmd: getvar: max-download-size
cmd: download:007f4800
cmd: flas:recovery

Any1 can Help?

Just to be sure, is your model the 3G version or the LTE version? The currently available TWRP is for the LTE version only.

Yeah it's 3G version ;/
I needed at least a cwm version, in boot mode all them work, but when i try to flash recovery I got boot failed.

You should flash back stock recovery for the 3G model. There are no custom recoveries available for your model yet. I'd make one if I had a 3G unit, but sadly the 3G model is not available in Canada.

[Q] Need help!!! no service on moto e after flashing stock rom

hello guys, first of all excuse my english its not my main language. i really need your help! about a week ago, i unlocked the bootloader/rooted my moto e XT1021 and put cm12 nightly on it. after a couple of days, it asked me to do a cyanogenmod system update via OTA, so i did. but when it first booted the phone after that, it kept saying that the user UI crashed, everytime. so i couldn't go anywhere on my phone! I tried wiping cache and dalvik cache, nothing worked. so i wiped all the data on my phone and unroot it and put a stock firmware on it. at this point, i saw that i did not have any signal on my phone, but I taught it wasnt really important, so i re-rooted it and I flashed cm12 again. It worked great but i didnt have no service.. so i check on google and all that to see if i could fix this, i tried flashing the rom with TWRP and CWM, and it didnt change anything. I tried flashing an earlier version of the cm12 nightly, didnt work. now i put back the stock rom again, nothing is working! oddly, when i look in about phone > status, I CAN see my phone number and my IMEI are there. but it says that radio is off. for that, i tried doing *#*#4636#*#* in my dialer to go in the phone information menu to activate the radio, but nothing worked. and when i go to my quick settings, I can see that my airplane mode is off, but when i hold the power button and see the shut down options, it tells me that my airplane mode is on! I really dont know what to do, and i really need your help. i know its a long read, but please help me out! if you need more info just tell me maybe i forgot some things.. thanks alot

You most probably flashed the wrong firmware for your device. You need to find the correct firmware or a firmware for the same region, e.g. if you have a UK version device then the EU firmware should work too, but if you flash the Brazilian firmware you will lose GSM signal. If you flash the wrong firmware version and then flash any custom ROM you will still not have GSM signal, so you need to flash the correct firmware and then the custom ROM.
If you are unsure which is the correct firmware for your device, go to bootloader mode, open command window (cmd.exe) and enter the following:
Code:
fastboot getvar ro.build.version.full
You will get the correct firmware version in output.

You didn't paste the complete version so i can't read it (version is broken in 2 lines).
Is it RETCA XT1023? If yes try flashing this.

That is a retail US variant, not sure if it's XT1023 or XT1021 though, you can find out by reading the label on the box of your device.
You can find the stock firmwares for US devices here.
If this doesn't help you then write a post in this thread and OP (lost101) can probably help you out.

Actually i'm not a hero, in fact i was in the same boat as you. I didn't have the stock ROM (or its details) for my device when i flashed CM11 so when i wanted to return to the stock ROM i found an XT1021 US stock ROM thinking that because it's XT1021 it should work on my GB device, i flashed it and the outcome was: no GSM signal. Then i posted in the thread i shared in my previous post and the OP (lost101) found the GB stock ROM for me, i flashed it and got GSM signal back.

Sorry, i don't have Moto E or G anymore. BTW you are posting in MOTO E XT1021 forum, XT1068 and XT1072 are Moto G 2nd gen.

So final answer... is there any possible way to root?

I've been on the net for almost a week now with no luck. Am I wasting my time or have I just not found the correct thread?

The Verizon XT1528 and the AT&T/GoPhone/Cricket XT1527 have locked bootloaders that do not qualify for the Moto Bootloader Unlock program. Therefore, there is no way to install custom recovery (TWRP) to install root.
The other models (the Moto-direct XT1527, the Sprint/USC XT1526, international models) do qualify. Unlock BL, flash TWRP, flash root, done.

No hope for root on this specific variant. I've tried every exploit out there, no deals. When I select my next handset I'm going to check if it can be rooted first. Also, I will never purchase hardware from Verizon again.

Android 7 OTA after recovery flash

Hello,
I have the following phone:
Moto Z
XT1650-03
RETEU
Android 6.0.1 MPL24.246-45
When I got the phone I only unlocked the bootloader en flashed TWRP recovery.
Now the Android 7 OTA update is released. I got the popup for de OTA update but it wasn't able to install the update because of TWRP Recovery.
After that I flashed the recovery with a stock recovery from the stock Android 6.0.1 MPL24.246-17 ROM, found in a Moto Z official/stock ROM forum here on XDA. After that I downloaded the OTA update again on my Moto Z, it starts with installing the update, then it restarts in recovery, it seems work fine when I see the stock recovery screen with installing the update, but after a few minutes I get an "Error!" with the "Android man with open belly" symbol. Luckily the phone stil boots and is working fine.
What's going wrong with the OTA update? Mismatch between the rom (MPL24.246-45) and recovery (MPL24.246-17) version?
My goal is to get stock Android 7 on my Moto Z. Who can tell me what's the best step for me to achieve this? Should I try another recovery to get the OTA update working?
Thank you!
Same happened to me when i tried updating the new 540mb update over Nougat. I think it happened because of the kernel (disabling force encryption), not sure :/

Ok, thank you for your answer. But I did not do anything with encryption... And how did you solve this, are you able to install that update now?
I gave my phone to the service center today and told them that it happened after the OTA update. I have my fingers crossed that they don't find out about the unlocked bootloader before fixing it.

Ok, I already flashed de stock .45 Recovery from Rogers.
My plan is the following:
- Reset device to factory defaults
- Download the OTA update to the device, just how it's meant to be
- See if it wil update successfully now
Or what can you recommend me to get to fully stock Nougat? This one:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/development/android-nougat-moto-z-versions-t3506342
Or wait and stay on Android 6.0.1 till there is more information/ROM's/updates about this device? I know something about flashing/ROM's (before I had a OnePlus One with Cyanogen) but not as much as you guys do and I don't want to brick my device

I'm not familiar with the Amazon variant but I'm pretty sure I read where bootloader can't be unlocked?
This can be flashed without the device being unlocked using the locked.bat file (I think).
Can someone else confirm this?
