Can SGH-t399 be rooted with Heimdall
I have rooted/modded several devices in the past. However, I recently ended up with only access to a Mac computer, I purchased this phone over the holiday and am unsure when i will have access to a Windows desktop to run the appropriate scripts. I downloaded and installed Heimdall / Frontend and was curious to know if i would be able to use this instead of ODIN to root my samsung Galaxy light. I haven't found any information about it yet, and i want to research a bit before doing something that may brick my phone in its vulnerable "recovery-less" state.
Also; My phone was purchased at metro pcs, and is sporting different build and version numbers than what I've seen on the internet. I haven't seen many posts in 2015 so i was wondering if the exploit had been patched in a recent update or something. Any information would be appreciated as to how to root this on a mac, or via Heimdall. Ive included the build number and such in case that may effect my options.. thank you

Believe it or not if im correct the firmware for both can be used on either version because they are basically identical. I was able to run metropcs on my tmobile. Also have you tried running a windows emulator on your mac. You can try that and see if it works. Let me know if it works ok.

I did try running an emulator. I am using the current version of virtual box on the current version of Mac osx. The problem is I can't get the virtual machine ( windows xp) to read my host (Mac) to share internet connections. So I can't download Odin onto the guest. Also, I tried mounting a folder with Odin and the root files but it doesn't show up. Same with USB stick. I don't want to derail this thread into a topic of using virtual box, but I can't seem to find anything on the internet in laymen's terms about how to workaround this problem. I'm pretty sure my version of virtual box has the necessary guest extensions installed with it. I've come soooo far in my quest for root. Any help if you have knowledge on this subject would be appreciated. And yes, I am looking for the shared folder on the guest machine within network connections via windows explorer .

Try this. This is the mac version of odin also you could google odin for mac

Hi All
Here's a new member extending warm regards to everyone on XDA.
Need help on Rooting my Dell XCD 35, which is running Android 2.2.
What I have successfully done so far is that I have installed JDK and SDK for Android. However, when the SDK tries to connect for downloading repository, it gives me connection times out error (Internet working otherwise). To install the Phone Drivers, I also tried to search for the driver manually, but to no avail. I am really stuck at this time as I don't want to go ahead and start rooting without installing the Phone drivers on the computer. I am assuming it is not advisable.
Please help as the On Phone memory is starting to run out and I need to be able to work as a root user so that I could move some more apps to SD card and tweak the system for performance.

I've done a search around, but I can't find any way to root my SGS2 on OSX.
Odin is for PC only, and I haven't found another option. Is there any software available yet?
Unless you can run Odin on wine/parallel (and tbh i will never trust to flash anything on a "emulated" windows running Odin) im afraid you only can use a Windows machine.
Maybe you could manage a bootcamp partition and install therefor windows for using Odin on this partition... Of course you will need an original Windows Installation!
Otherwise here on xda there is an offer of the program 'Heimdall' wich can be used as an alternative to Odin, but especially me I prefer the Windows way

Dude, Bootcamp is the way. Installation takes less than half hour.
That's how an Apple head does his Win-based job. >.<
Heimdall doesn't work for SGS2 on OSX. I used a Windows pc for this one time only process.
I did an extensive search and have checked the Noob thread with no luck. Im aware of the Heimdall option for non US S III devices but not for US versions.
Is there something Im missing, or is there in fact no way to root a GS III on a Mac computer. I have emailed Heimdall and hopefully hear something soon.
Please advise if there is an option that I am not realizing. I do not have a Windows machine, but may have to find one if this holds true.

already a few open threads on this bro. short answer the only way to get it working right now would be to dual boot windows or run in virtual unless you have access to a windows machine or until heimdall releases an update

I have a GT-I9300 with original samsung Android Version 4.1.2 and I have been looking for a method to root this device from either OSX or Linux which are to only two OS i have reasonable access to.
My understanding from forum trawling is that i need to use odin. But I have also seen the "unified toolkit" however these options both seem to be windows based :'(
Have I missed a important post somewhere ?.
I don't use my friends windows machine and uninstall the usb drivers for their (different phones) and install mine muck around with rooting (hopefully successful) and removed my usb drivers and reinstall theirs. I just hoping there is a *nix solution.

So I want to root my galaxy s6 edge, my laptop has screwed up an I have no other way of reinstalling windows so I want to attempt to do it with my phone and apparently this requires rooting the phone, i have downloaded a windows iso to my phone and I do have a card reader that plugs into my phone to transfer files either way.
But I'm finding all this rooting business rather confusing, i have no access to a pc, which is obviously what I need to root I have seen some apps but they mention Roms and recovery software (phone) I'm just so confused by it all.
I'd love some help and if someone could help me through it I'd be grateful I did install kingaroot but then it asks for a payment which I can't provide at the moment, I've got around £2 in the bank kings root want $10, if any one can help I'd appreciate it.
