[Q] I need a launcher/ROM with more than 9 home screens, and infinite scrolling - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I love using Nova, have used it for years, and have no issues buying a new launcher. These are my requirements:
60 or more home screens (unlimited preferred)
Infinite scrolling (so I scroll to screen sixty, swipe once more, and I am back to screen one).
I understand this is an odd request but I am an odd guy
Any help would be appreciated. I have googled incessantly, read every "top 25 android launchers of 2015" article you can find, and simply can't find a way to make this work. Nova tops out at 9. Apex (I believe) tops out at 9. Others at 5, 7, etc.
Anyone have any tips?

There is no launcher that does that. It would slow the whole OS down far too much and maybe even freeze the phone. There really is no reason for that many pages in a launcher.

Honestly 30 would be enough. I highly doubt that it would slow down the system, and honestly, i would give up the speed in exchange for the home screens. Are there any launchers that can do more than nine screens? That is the most i found.

Thats the most due to anymore show a huge drain on performance. IT would slow down the system alot. There was a launcher that was being worked on that had like 20 home screens and it was abandoned due to how much it lag and other issues it caused. You have to remember that the launcher is always running and that is why it froze the system up.

What a shame. Ios is unlimited.

Unlimited in the icons you can add yes but you have to understand that android launchers are far more versatile then IOS launcher.

I don't know why people can be so insistent on spreading incorrect information. Nova Prime did a new release two days ago showing that unlimited homescreens is not only technically possible, but it is now currently available. I am elated that Nova Prime has added this feature as I needed it desperately, and it works wonderfully on all of my devices.
Bumping this thread with a new reply in the event someone with the same or similar needs googles and finds this.

SPB Mobile Shell!!

SPB mobile shell 3d! It is finally here; I've given it a try, and I must say I like it. However, the $15 (£~10) price tag is a little steep.

Does it run fine, no lag?
Maybe I'll say it, I guess I will: This thing looks like it struts its stuff more hardcore than Sense.
Yeah, how does it run? $15 is pretty steep..but it looks pretty intense compared to the other home replacements.
I was playing with it a bit on my CM7 legend, and it ran super smooth. Not sure what's it's battery impact or anything was since I was running what shall be considered a trial version, that wouldn't stay as the default home screen so only had it going for a few minutes. But like usual SPB makes a nice program and runs it at way above average cost for what it is. Might still get it later not sold on it yet though. Oh not sure if it says it anywhere but it seems to kill live wallpapers.
It doesn't support live wallpapers for 'performance issues'. It runs very smoothly though, but I've noticed that when you open the app drawer it sometimes freezes for a few seconds. Generally, it seems very good; just as eye-pleasing as sense, but smoother, and I especially like the 3d carousel and the folders. Android folders where always a bit rubbish, but the folders on this thing are as good as in iOS, only you can have an unlimited number of apps in each one!
$10 would probably be a better price for it - that's still quite a bit compared to other Android apps, but the developers have clearly put a lot of effort into this.

I'm utterly confused by this statement...what makes iOS folders so special? Other than it looking pretty when you open it.
I was almost sold on it until I figured out icon and widget placement is just like iOS, ie you can't put them anywhere. That totally kills my layout scheme.
Well, I had a go. $15 is way too much for this. It's not what I'd call a "phone changing" app. I'll stick to LPP

That's all I meant - the Android folders are quite ugly. I've always wanted a cross between iOS and Android, like MIUI, and this just about achieves that.
And yes, that is slightly annoying!
15 is way too much.. i would pay 15 for sth mindblowing, but Not for this ^^

I've made the "mistake"...and have paid. The shell lasted on my phone 1 hour. Maybe it's just me, but when returning from each application launched or other screen besides the home screen, I got a BLACK one instead of the homescreen. I had to touch the screen (or press back button) once again to get the proper screen. I wrote to support, they asked me to reinstall it. I did and it's the same. So getting a black screen each time I'm supposing to be back at homescreen does not convince me at all.
That was the biggest drawback for me. There was no lag though when scroling through carousel or when playing with the menus. Other things I didn't like were the lack of widget resizing support or some other stuff I got used to from ADW Launcher/EX. The switch widgets (for WiFi/BT, etc) were not so customisable, same goes for the widgets on the screens. I was not able to set the alarm appl to be launched when pressing the clock (I use Alarm Clock+ by default), or the SMS application, or the dialer. These are things I didn't like at all, especialy from a 10 EUR/15 USD launcher. I've expected too much I guess. Back on Launcher 7 or ADW Launcher EX. Oh...I almost forgot to mention that the "auto arrange" setting for icons, widgets and so on, pissed me off alot. Could be that I didin't find where to deactivate it, but usualy I want to arrange things on my screen myself.
Good job guys...Marketing deserves it all. They convinced me to buy it...the application itself didn't.

This is a cyanogen issue, no problems for other roms.
@Rapier. As the guy above me pointed out, this seems to be a issue with CM. The same thing happened to be, but flashing Blayos Rom solved it.
I'm actually very happy with it, I think it looks great and the speed is awesome. The only thing I don't like is the shortcut auto arrange.

Too bad then. And to understand better, you're talking about the "black screen issue" right?
Still there are some other things that I don't like (I've pointed them out in my post) and I don't think they're CM related. I'm not sorry about the money, but I will not change CM ROM for this. If SPB will work on CM ROM, great, I'll give it another try...till then, I'll stick with Launcher 7 or ADW Launcher EX.
Don't missunderstood me...SPB IS GREAT. Really. I had it on my HTC Diamond (an older version) and it was the best launcher I've ever used on that phone. But after switching to Android and playing with ADW, Launcher Pro and others, I just feel it more "restricted" and offering fewer options, especially when talking about a much higher price. The interface is neat, has a lot of things, but going deep under it's hood is not allowing you to customize it as much as other launchers. Most of the widgets are limited in functionality and do not allow many customizations. But it may be a perfect match for someone looking for basic functionality and usage of standard apps.
Hi
I just purchased a legend having stock 2.2 Sense on it (Vodafone). When I try to goto SPB Shell Home, it shows that SPB Shell is loading, but then nothing happens
Any suggestions?
Yes I'm talking about the black screen issue. I agree with you, it's not worth changing roms over. I actually use Blayos Rom regularly, just happened to test it with CM. So its not a big deal for me. I also think the lack of customization is a bummer, but I'm happy with it for now. In a month I don't know. Also for me 15 dollars ain't that much, that's barely one dinner in Norway

What should I do? I don't think it not supported since you guys managed to run it on your Legends.

Nova launcher Prime sucks! Options?

Hey folks! Relying on your collective wisdom here!
Is there a modern alternative to the Nova launcher which allows arbitrary sizing and overlapping widgets on the home screen?
Nova Prime is so obsolete by now that even on older devices it was designed for it ends up with severe and fatal bugs.
I have finally uninstalled Nova from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 as all of my apps and widgets had simply disappeared from everywhere in it (except for the home screen) for the second time. I can't tolerate that anymore even though it was one of 8 apps I have actually paid for, ever.
The developer is a severely ignorant dude. He has frankly refused to help me multiple times. All he is saying is "sh*t happens maaaan. Try resetting the phone!". Very sad.
Looking for the modern alternative!
A paid launcher is OK, though the preference goes to a most "lightweight" option.
Special solutions for the rooted OS, or easy to implement custom app development receipts (I'm an Android dev and Tasker user) are also welcome!
Action Launcher or ss launcher (I think developement has stopped but still a good one)
Action Launcher
Give a try to Flick Launcher. I was also bored of Nova & has been on Flick Launcher since past 4 months.

First Android with stock launcher

That I am perfectly fine using. Every Android I have ever had got Nova FIRST. This S10 has all the options and features I need to not have to do that. Anyone else skipping 3rd party?
No. I don't mind Samsung's software now days, but that is after replacing the home screen. I'm using Action Launcher on my S9+ with OneUI and probably will with the S10 as well.
My primary motivations are: Swipe left for Google, I don't like side scrolling app drawers, and replacable icons... That's really mostly it. Their launcher isn't awful, it just isn't very customizable.
I feel pretty much the same as AJerman. I never ran TouchWiz any longer than I had to and One UI is almost usable but I'll probably still stick with Nova. The #1 reason for that is no vertical scrolling in the app drawer. That was a major gripe in the One UI beta program and many of us suggested that to Samsung. It's a shame Samsung left out that one minor tweak.
I always switch to Nova to hide apps, for the 5 x 6 home and to lock down the home screen. This has all 3, so I'm gonna stick it out to see how it goes. But miss the swipe to Google Now though.

Nova prime a must have for me...
Trying to give the Bixby screen a fair shake, but I think I am very likely to load up Nova for the Google feed on the left. I don't hate Flipboard but it's clunky compared to Google or old-style Blinkfeed. I do wish Nova supported motion backgrounds.

Launchers

Hello everyone, I’m back in the Android family again and I see a lot has changed in the last 3 years. I went into the playstore and don’t see all of the apps I’ve purchased, and I’m assuming that’s because of Android OS compatibility. I was very happy to see some core apps I use were still there, but what happened to the launchers? The variety is nothing like it used to be. At one point in time, I had between 10 - 14 on my phone that were similar but also different for one reason or another. Thankfully Nova Launcher which is my number 1 pick is still available. I think Apex Launcher is also, sadly TSF Shell and Next Launcher are gone. I liked those, but I see Go Launcher is. Now I haven’t used that launcher in at least 7 or 8 years, because they began charging for things that used to be included for free. I remember when that was the top launcher and was worth using. The reviews I see are terrible to say the least. I tried to visit their website and got some message basically stating the site isn’t up as far as I’m concerned. What is going on here, and what could they possibly be selling for an in app purchase for $109? I would never spend that kind of money for an in app purchase. Are there any other good launchers available that I’m missing? I saw a couple of launchers that were based on Windows Desktop layouts, and a MAC OS layout.
Launcher choice
I didn't like how the stock launcher only gave you only a few applications to choose from on the top screen when you were in 'T' mode. I played around with Nova Launcher and changing the options to auto rotate seems to work pretty well. Let me...

Microsoft Launcher seems to also work well with the Wing.
You will lose the Carousel Apps though in swivel mode.
But it seems to take care of the 5 second delay that KLWP has when launching Apps from the Home Screen.
Nova also takes care of that though
Wow that looks good. Is that KLWP also? I haven't played around with a build your own widget since UCCW.

Yes, mainly KLWP. Not really a widget but an entire theme built using KLWP.
It's a fairly steep learning curve, but works well on the Wing

I switched to Nova to play around with KLWP, because I am not entirely sure if Win-X Launcher (NO ADS) is compatible. Its either that, and/or I really just don't know what I'm doing yet. I plan to learn more about to use it this weekend.
I use Total Launcher and have for years. It gives you a blank palette to place any widget, any icon, anywhere. Allows for windows with swipe actions. Use of any icon pack in the play store. Mix and match icon styles. Completely customizable. Works with KLWP and KWGT. Has Tasker plugins.
Overall, IMO its more freedom to customize than any other launcher. You be the judge. Happy Launching...

Question Any way to remove the Google search bar at the bottom of the screen?

This is really bothering me. I dont want a 3rd party launcher, the launcher is fine except for that stupid search bar. Also I had many problems with 3rd party launchers in the past, and I'd rather keep the stock one which is tailored to the Pixel 6 series.

The beauty of Nova is, you can run both launchers, customize each as you like and switch between the two on-the-fly.
Infinite scrolling, custom bottom bar, multiple grid layouts...
When I get my P6P (today in theory) I will load all my apps from the Play store and restore my Nova backup. BOOM! my new phone will look and function exactly like my old phone... only bigger and cooler.

I had never heard of the MS launcher, or maybe never really given it any mind. I looked at it yesterday after you mentioned it and it looked awful. I really hate the tiles and the forced news that I could care less about... too much work to make it what I wanted.

Then you're missing out IMHO.
There is nothing "wrong" with the Pixel launcher per se, as long as you don't care that Google, like Apple, dictates how you interact with your phone; but, if you want to customize your phone to your liking, a custom launcher is the only way to go.
Nova has been rock-stable for a long time and has a myriad of great features, most of which are free.

+1 for Nova.
Nova is my launcher of choice.
It has been for a decade or so now.
I've tried many others but always come back to it.
Sometimes I use Action Launcher or will try something new but again always come back to Nova, which I am actively using on my new Pixel 6 (received it yesterday) as I find the stock launcher extremely lacking in features - haven't suffered a single launcher related performance or stability issue for a very long time, including on my P6.
I don't like having an app drawer or icons / widgets cluttering up my home screen so I assign gestures to launch specific frequently used apps such as Chrome and YouTube and for Nova's integrated "app search", which also displays other recently used, newly installed or frequent apps in tabs separate from the search bar.
I have a single Google "At A Glance" widget
and use the Maxelus Galaxy Pack Live Wallpaper app for additional personalisation and because I'm a nerdy space cadet.
+2 Nova. Double tap to lock gesture is something I have implemented for years and the customization is endless.

A little late to the party. Always used Lawnchair launcher on my Pixel3. Just got my P6 a few days ago and upgraded to Lawnchair again. Seems pretty stable on Android 12. I add Lawnfeed to enable Google feed left-swipe. Lawnchair is pretty similar to Pixel launcher except you can customize much more than stock (ie, disabling the bottom search bar).
