Lollipop Update finally hit my phone - AT&T HTC One (M8)

Just popped up with the Lollipop update....arround 530mb. Took forever and had to do a few updates afterwards.
Seems to be running pretty smoothly with no issues so far. Not too different other than some pull down menu's etc.
Good luck all!

That's nice, I heard it was 5.0.2 with Sense 6.
Im actually thinking about doing a fresh install since I have so many mods and reversing everything seems daunting. I could also restore a nandroid backup as well. Here comes Lollipop finally, wish it had Sense 7 though but that probably won't come til the 5.1 update in a few more months.

Changed the date to Wednesday and got it to come down. I'll see how it goes. First time in a long time back on a smartphone since my GS3, lol. I kind of want to try out CM11, but I have grown lazy and I don't want to do much tinkering.

Seems okay, just takes a while to dl and setup

Pretty bad battery drain

I have downloaded it three times and each time it tries to install I get the red exclamtion point then it reverts back 4.4.4.
Any ideas??

Maybe corrupted download...have you saved the ota? if so post it,would be appreciated.

Once the update finally finishes downloading, it takes a nailbitingly long time to work its way through the updating process.
Part of my anxiety was I pulled the stock recovery from the new OTA package, flashed THAT as stock by accident, realized my mistake and immediately flashed the 4.4.4 stock recovery back, and THEN ran the update. It's working, but good lord, what an anxiety attack!

NM, I found it.
Where would you like me to upload it?

Google, dropbox or something of the sort

Sigh.... I hate the new stock lock screen. I can't use LockerPro lock screen (it keeps bugging out). They removed the cool globe feature in the Stock Clock. They didn't even fix the GPS turning on by itself.

Anyone else have their GPS being turned on randomly?

I had that problem with 4.4.4, I haven't seen it yet with Lollipop. Just an occasional on then off right away.

Lock Screen
Noticing, when I have the option not to show certain information on my lockscreen, such as text message previews, and powersave mode on, I can't fully control the music widget on the lockscreen, I can only pause and go forward, I can't go back

Yeah, mine started immediately after i got the update. Really annoying. I had it on 4.4.4 for a week and it went away. Now it's back.
Does ATT actually do any testing on this? You'd think with all these delays that they'd have at least tested this basic thing. Now I don't know what to do
Just posted this to MoVersi. Retweet if you're experiencing the same GPS issue. Maybe we can get some response

Freezing them? I donated to Titanium so I have access to everything, but I'm not 100% sure of everything I can do. I just know it came in super handy with my Droid flashing antics
Thanks Daswolven! I'll head over there as soon as I get done with the nitty gritty. Although should I maybe swap my Fascinate out for a replacement first due to the fact I have a few issues one of them being occasionally the unlock button doesn't work and after pressing it the screen goes blank then turns straight back on and stays on? It doesn't happen all of the time so is this a trivial issue?

There's a freeze feature in TiB. If you tap an app on the backup/restore list, you can see that there is a freeze option. This is available to donaters.

I recently had to get a warranty exchange after my charging port stopped working a week after upgrading to ICS. When I asked if I'd have to re-update the new device I was told to hold off because there are a lot of kinks that need to be worked out in terms of the compatibility with this device.
That's fine with me because I did a master reset and all and still had the slow speeds, sporadic behavior, black screens, etc. :sly:

I do not think its a fluke. ICS has a lot of improvements but there is no way its as fast as Gingerbread. I know most people will say I am wrong but Gingerbread is much snappier and its also more simplistic. ICS also eats up more ram but besides speed and ram its very much improved as an OS.

I disagree with this, but only to a certain extent. I have noticed varying amount of lag on both GB and ICS. ICS does seem to use up more RAM on consistent basis, but that alone doesn't really mean that it is slower or indicate that it is the slower of the two OS. GB had its problems for me as well.
Overall I enjoy the user experience much more with ICS than I did with GB. That's not too say that its consistently faster, but overall Ill deal with a few quirks for the upgraded OS.

In my case ICS is MUCH faster, smoother and solid than Gingerbread on my Note.
if you all were running a aosp ics rom . it would be lightyears above gb
i recomend rooting and geting on aocp its like night and day compared to touchwizd ics
Just Use CM9 ICS virtually no lag...
Just flash a rom already

Same problem here, mate. I loved the Note with GB, but it's been buggy as all hell with ICS. The biggest problem is looking at the blank home screen with nothing but wallpaper for up to 30 seconds after closing an app. It's a lot better using GoLauncher rather than TouchWiz, but it still suffers from a lot of lag. Hopefully they'll push out an OTA fix to better regulate resources soon.

even if you don't want to run a custom rom, you should at least do the following:
1. Use Odin to flash the latest cwm recovery
2. Boot to recovery, flash superuser to root
3. Clear cache and dalvik
4. Reboot
5. Profit
Then again, running a custom rom would be an even better idea...

Even after rooting and debloating (which helped) it was still too slow for me, go with cm9 or if you think your ready cm10 lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
If stock ics is too slow, I think a nice launcher could help if you're not addicted to Samsung widgets. Nova prime or Adwex can speed the home screen up a bunch. Especially with options to reduce scrolling time etc. I thought the stock ics was perfectly fine. I never had any speed issues or complaints, but I was running a debloated, aligned, deodexed version so maybe that had something to do with it.
Obviously best solution is custom Rom though
Good luck peeps.

Screen freeze.

I'm running ViperRez atm and 2.27 hboot, s-off. I've tried running Neo's Rage and EclipticRez and end up with same issue every time.....Screen freezes, soft keys still responsive and only fix is to press power to turn screen off then all is well for a few more minutes before it repeats.

I believe that Rage and EclipticRez have Snuzzo's custom kernels on them. I don't know what ViperRez comes with. You might try to up the minimum CPU voltage to 384 from 192, and running a different governor. I've noticed that problem go away for me when I change the CPU clock speed on the low end.
Do you notice it from waking when the screen is unlocked, or does it just happen randomly?
Usually it would occur randomly. I'll tweak the voltage and change governors and see what results I get. Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know how it goes.

Sorry guys you not going to wanna hear this. I didn't want to either 3 months ago when i had to do it. I lost 3G and my screen went hay wire. The fix was pretty much, lock, flash ruu, then re-root and install new custom rom. I have not had a problem sense and still run viral, redux, and eclipt with no issues. Let me know how this works out for you.

When you say "Lock"... Does that imply that you weren't S-OFF and you just relocked the bootloader? What if I already S-OFFed her phone?
I've got the phone running on Page Plus. I haven't got 3G working, nor do I own a SIM card. Don't think this really matters, but figured I'd mention it. I'm going to try tweaking some settings again in DFS tonight. Apparently someone updated the guide and may have the fix for getting data.
My gf is whining about how I need to buy her a better phone, though. Only because this one is glitchy/freezes. A fix for that would spare me the money I'd spend buying another phone. The rezound has amazing potential if I could get rid of the glitch.

If you are s-off you don't need to lock before running the RUU. I would definitely try running the RUU and then putting a custom ROM on there before buying another phone.
My Rezound has been really wonky recently as well. So going back to stock and starting over will fix it? It does stuff like having to press the power button 2 - 3 times for the screen to pop up and is generally really laggy. Sometimes when I start the screen up it pops up for 1 second then goes away then comes back..it's really weird.

Flashed RUU. RUU didn't fix it. I'm still having the same issues described in the first post.
I've tried all suggestions....only conclusion I can come to is that its something to do with Snuzzo's kernel; because only experience the problem with roms running that Snuzzo kernel. Any dev suggestions on configurations that could fix this issue since only a few of us are having these issues?

New ATT One rooted easily ?

Found a good deal on a new HTC One at Best Buy, with ATT. I have old gift cards to use, can get it for nothing.
Anyways, can a brand new One through ATT carrier still be rooted easily ? Has their be new firmware released to prevent root ?
I would want to flash the Google Play Edition ROM on it.
I had an international One X last year, and that thing was a frigging nightmare for flashing ROMs and kernels, it sucked balls, always having to use fast boot crap and command prompt with .bootimg crap. I'm dine with that nightmare, why can't phones be like the good old days. Root it, install recovery and be done, and on your way to flashing Roms in a blink of an eye.
Anyways. Opinions please.

Thank you. Yeah I was sick of that One X bull crap. Just got ridiculous.
Last two phones I had, the Nexus 4, and Note 2 on ATT, were easy as pie to root and install recovery, and that was it, you were done forever, just flash a ROM + Kernel, reboot and bam you had a fresh new ROM to enjoy, and was so easy and fast to do get it installed, was a no brainer. What happened in the past year with phones being so locked down so hard, where you can't just do that anymore ?
Wish all Android phones were as simple as a Nexus to flash rom's on. But I don't want the Nexus 5 phone with tiny battery, I like bigger batteries or removable, and more storage options, etc...

So if I get a brand new ATT HTC One on sale at Best Buy, it won't be locked down hard like ATT did to the Galaxy S4 with MF3 firmware ? That S4 is screwed as as ever getting recovery, or installing new ROM's.
On the One, I'd like to try the GPE edition ROM. Plus the speakers are great, I like to do a lot of loud speaker phone calls, and watch videos in loud places sometimes.
Just worried about crappy battery life. Can the One go 5h On Screen time, or no way ?

No it won't be locked down
The speakers really aren't that loud, just extremely clear.
And if you're ready for it to die in that amount of time, it can probably make it up to 5 hrs but that depends on your usage.

Can the HTC One running the GPE ROM get this kind of battery life ?
I was on my S4 pretty hard today, all day and night long, surfing the web, reading XDA, watching YouTube, sending tons of texts, keeping up with the sports scores on my favorite teams playing today, using Sportstacular a lot.
I think almost 6h On Screen time is really good, and blows away my Nexus 4, which was getting around 3.5h to 4h On Screen time. Wonder how well the Nexus 5 will do On Screen time when hammering on the phone all day and night ?

Screen Burn , unknown cause. Please help

Hi everyone, i've started experience a tiny screen burn on the side of my display. I started to notice it when i was on Revolution OS ( Custom MIUI Rom ) but before that i had one of those first unstable Pie builds with the genome kernel which is discontinued now. So while i was still on Revolution OS i started to notice a faint burn on the screen i didn't get alarmed at first and thought i would just switch to Havoc OS which was my main rom for the longest time ever , thinking that it was probably a bad new display driver on Xiaomi's front. The burn on the screen started to be really bright and apparent so got me thinking that the issue still persists.
Side note, while i was installing one of those Pie builds i also flashed the newest firmware file which was linked in the forum , because people said it was required. So now got me thinking that might be the cause because the firmware file persists through wipes and formats ? I don't know anymore lol help.

As sorry as I am, this is definitely a relatively common hardware problem. Either live with it or have the display replaced if there is still a warranty.

Hii, I have same issue, i installed multiple rom's. I don;t know what causes it. My phone is in warranty so i get replaced at service center.
Well if it's a hardware problem i can do nothing about it since my phone is from AliExpress, i presumed it was software related so i can fix it, guess not.

A LCD Screen for the device is really cheap (according to other brands I replaced)

I thought so, but i'll still have to take it to a repair shop cause i do not want to replace it myself.
I flashed the newest firmware , using a different kernel and ROM now, the burn is slowly spreading so by now i'm convinced it's not software related. I'll be replacing the phone in a few months so i guess i'll just have to live with it.
Early leaked Oreo builds had screen burn problems, IIRC it was due to incorrect voltages being provided to the screen, or brightness set too high (at the end of the day it was a bad kernel). I think some custom kernel that you used caused the problem, and there's no software fix for that. Try to post this in the thread of the roms that you used recently, and check if someone else has the problem.

I know that a screen burn cannot be correct by software , i was saying was this caused by software implying the kernel. I won't be doing more research into the matter because it probably will be a waste of time. The damage is already done. Thanks for giving your 2 cents on it tho
rip be more careful when installing custom roms I use LiquidRemix It's very stable and battery is good no burns or lag.. that's a weird burn I guess nothing you can do beside replace the screen If It's worth for you or alternatively purchase new phone as Redmi 5 Plus is kinda getting old not saying It's bad but Im not sure If It's worth repairing it so yeah.
Also I don't see a reason why to flash custom firmwares unless It's by Xiaomi Official beside that It's fine to install custom kernels especially Genome Kernel... I never flashed any firmwares after many flashes I never needed to do so...
