LG G3 OEM casings are developing cracks? LG fix w/upgraded parts? Sprint process? - Sprint LG G3

As a buyer trying to decide between a LG G3 or LG G4 or Samsung S5, I have been reading online that the LG G3 has a defective case design that results in cracks that are not a result of drops and abuse.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/lg-replacing-g3s-cracks-microphone-t2875512
Has LG re-engineered and redesigned upgraded NEW parts that will NOT crack once the fix has been applied?
Or, is LG just replacing defective cases with the same defective parts that will eventually crack again?
What is LG's current process and timeline and customer costs associated with this repair?
If taken to a Sprint corporate store, what is Sprint's current process and timeline and customer costs associated with this repair?
Thank you.
PS
I refuse to use a case with the G3 because it is already TOO WIDE from left to right.
70mm or less should be the max width of these phones.

I just took my thin case of today to clean under it. I found a few cracks in the back cover as well. Also, the stock blueish camera lens scratch real easy. I have replaced lens a few times already with aftermarket ones, that don't scratch near as easy.

What color is your LG G3?
Please let us know the how your repair works out.
Thanks.

I had cracks in my Sprint G3 and sent it in to LG and they fixed it free of charge. At first they said I had to pay for shipping there, but then I sent them pictures and the they sent me a shipping label. Phone came back in a little over a week crack free and charged nothing.

Cracked Camera Lens Cover

I'm not sure if this is the best place for this thread, so if anyone has a better idea, please let me know, I will move it.
I recently pre-ordered the LG G5 (H820 Gold) from AT&T, it arrived last Wed, and unfortunately my case won't arrive until two days from now. I accidentally dropped it on the ground when getting out of my car, and now the glass covering the camera lens is cracked. It doesn't seem to affect the camera functioning, because it looks like it is outside the field of view on the camera. However, I am sad that it is broke. I was wondering if anyone knows a place that could repair it, or how much it would cost?
I found out it is not covered by AT&T's warranty, or LG's warranty. I'm emailing LG support to see how much they would charge to replace directly, but I'm not above going third party repair if it is cheaper and still reputable. I realize the phone has been out a total of 4 days now, but I actually broke it a day before that.
Totally sucks man. Best advice is to slap a cover on it and be as careful as you can with it since the cracks might get worse. and actually affect the camera quality. That or call LG for an estimate on repairs.
I'd get a warranty with squaretrade and then file a claim to get it fixed if a repair shop charges you more than $80.
Thanks for the info.
BTW, for anyone wondering, LG is going to make me MAIL my phone in, wait 6-8 weeks, then they will tell me what the estimate is to repair it... then I can decide if I want them to fix it, then regardless if they fix it, I wait another 6-8 weeks to get my phone back... This is stupid.
Anyway, my phone carrier does the same thing, except that its a $200 deductible, along with $8 a month for 2 years. Then I have to mail it in, and wait for them to fix it and send it back.
I'll probably check out squaretrade, that almost seems the best answer, but I'd still have to find my own repair shop locally.
They probably barely have their G5 repair parts program going yet. It's likely weeks to get any repair done, even a screen. I've been trying to buy a spare battery and charger because I don't want to wait for my freebies and even those are not available yet.
This is why its key to ha e a backup phone. 6-8 weeks is only because its new i'm guessing. But yeah its so new and they dont physically inspect before letting you sign up for insurance right? So check fine print. If they dont have "pre existing condition" type restrictions it might not be unethical to sign up

I don't have a problem signing up, my problem is with the fact that even with "Insurance" or "Warranty" I still have to actually pay them to fix it... and I have to wait FAR longer than I should, just for them to give me an estimate, I mean, do they really not know how much a camera cover costs?? do they have to look at it for 6 weeks just to know that it needs a new piece of glass??
On top of ALL that, I'm less than 20 miles from their repair facility, and yet I still have to mail it, I can't just drive it up there, which would take less than an hour of driving.
I'd rather just have a cracked camera than be without my phone for nearly half a year, and then have to pay nearly half the phone's price just for a 1 inch piece of glass.
Yeah that super annoying man.

Just wait until repair shops have access to the parts and get it fixed for 40-50 bucks

Hey OP, wondering if you found a replacement for that yet? I just got the LG G5 and on day 15 set the phone on a desk and the glass cracked back there. I'm looking everywhere trying to find a replacement and coming up short. I really don't want to pay $175 to file a warranty claim. Thanks!
Sorry bud, I haven't been able to find one... Only options were to mail it to LG and wait, or submit claim with my carrier...
Same boat here. I've never ever broken that glass on a phone. I picked up my phone today to see that it was shattered. Mind you, my phone has always been in a case. Seems they're using too thin of glass for this part.

The same exact thing happened to me. Pissed me off. My brand new phone looks like a pos now... 175 to use my insurance to fix it...
Same issue here, had it in a case since day one, just pulled my phone out and noticed that the glass covering the camera is busted, really disappointing never dropped my phone, or had it in a pocket with anything else.
LEMON LAW?????
Same crap here! WORST quality control phone I've ever had! I miss my Note 3.
Question is...HOW MANY FLAWS DO THERE HAVE TO BE TO FILE A LEMON LAW LAWSUIT or take action!? First, the phone's screen was wobbly and wouldn't hold a hard screen protector, then the headphone jack issue, then the freezing...then the black screen issue...and now this camera lens issue!? If they used a bit thicker glass, it'd not have happened! My phone's ALWAYS been in a case. Never have I had a screen break, let alone, a camera lens!!!
I am literally a cripple in a wheelchair who never leaves home. I took my phone off my desk to see my child and the wide angle lens was all wonky.. .I turned it over:
I have an image but it thinks I'm a spam bot... So just go to my web server: sirgcal.com/misc/LG/20160509_170035.jpg
I also have a question into LG on this one. Perhaps if they get enough of them it'll get recalled? If not I'm waiting till the local phone repair place can do it. I don't go anywhere so for me to drive out is almost impossible and for me to be without a phone more-so. I could re-use my old Galaxy S4 for a while if I had to, per-say. That would all be up to sprint.

This is also why I don't do insurance. The repair itself wouldn't cost that much when shops get the parts. Going to take a while for 'new' phones. But... Unless you completely damage/lose your phone very early on, it's just not cost effective to me.

YEAH!!! How about a recall on these main issues!? Screen defects and definitely this crappy lens on the camera! It's a huge deal for me, as it's over the main camera...and my beautiful phone now looks like dog crap!

I also had the phone for 4 days until it hit the toilet
Add me to the list. I have it in a huge soft hard combo case and noticed last night the camera glass was broken. I think its a combo of too thin glass and too tight of a fit so when it drops even with a case, it shatters.
Between this and the non rooting since LG removed fastboot cmd, I might just jump to the m10
sent from my unrooted g5 cause T-Mobile and lg are jerks
I had a note 4 for two years and not a single issue. Just the other day I noticed the glass was cracked on my G5. I am furious. Can't find a replacement part yet. Please keep this thread going for when we have the ability to get these parts.

Cracked screen. How do I know if I'm buying a genuine g5 screen off eBay?

Is it possible to get a lower quality screen? I've never replaced a screen so not sure how this works.

How much are you planning to spend? My screen was shattered brutally, and LG repaired it for 153 all in (except for shipping the device TO them). Comes with 90 day warranty and of course it's genuine. I'm pretty happy with it, although I'm not 100% they sent me back my original phone, the one I got was almost perfect.
Most screens out there are LG original being that they do sell parts. The ones that would be after market would typically not have the lg logo on them. If you can find parts on ebay I would trust parts that have a JM tag on them or stamp. They're an LG parts distributor. Ultimately go to their website. http://www.epartsolution.com

LG G5 broken glass

Hi all,
Recently I had an accident in which my G5 was dropped and the glass shattered. The good thing is the glass broke only in the upper area around sensors, and the display area is just cracked so I can use the phone.
Now, the situation is that I am in Indonesia currently, where the G5 SE is sold, not regular G5 which I have. I went to the service center and they told me the spare parts are not the same which is real surprise for me, because I thought the only difference is in the processor, not external hardware differences.
I checked in some regular phone service stores and they also say they can't get the part.
I would like to order it, but wouldn't like some knock-off screen with bad colors from ebay, so I would like your suggestion how to solve this issue the best way, because I won't be going to Europe till New year. So can I order from LG somehow?
Also, is it possible to replace the glass only because the LCD is working fine? They told me it's glued together so you have to replace the whole LCD.
Thank you.
Regards,
It dont look easy to split glass and lcd. Take a look here https://youtu.be/bS9mtqfGTGI
I am happy to see the screen is glued now and not with tape like it was on g3, becuse on g3 the tape failed and glass started to fell of by itself.

Screen cracked, options and alternatives, is it possible to replace glass only?

Hello everyone,
I have cracked the v30 screen after a 1.5 meters fall on the sidewalk, had a case and all.
Looking online I have found screen glass only (without the oled display and digitizer) for about 5$ and a full screen with digitizer for about 150$.
Could not find any replacement guide for glass only, is it even possible?
I also have checked with a few labs regarding replacement work and as I understand the phone will not be water resistant after the replacement,
LG labs included (at least in my country).
If I decide to do it on my own, does anyone have info on how to restore water resistant after a screen replacement.
Happy to finally join the community,
Thank you

One of the tear down videos on YouTube says water resistance should be almost like factory if done right.
Can't think of the name, but it's the famous guy. Jerry Rig?

What screen protector were you using? Any decent protector would not only protect from direct impacts, but buffer from stresses. (Please don't tell us, with all the discussion of them, that you got a case and not a screen protector!)
Larger cities, such as NYC, tend to have cell phone repair places. They probably don't stock the LG screens - Samsung and Apple mostly - but you could probably make an appointment and have them do it.
I'm going to guess that replacing just the glass isn't a viable option. Just like the samsung edge devices t2je curved screen will prove to be very difficult to deal with.
Replacing the whole screen looks extremely easy from a video I watched a whilw back. Nearly anyone can do it.
I can't find any guides for replacing a cracked screen either.
My phone screen still works fine but just doesn't look great with all the cracks I have in it now after an unfortunate drop.
From watching tear down videos, it seems impossible to replace just the glass and so the parts needed to fix it are about $200... and even if I bought them, I wouldn't know how to do it myself.
LG won't even give me a price estimate or time estimate if I send it to them to fix. They charge $20 just to diagnose it after you send it to them before they'll give you any price to fix or time to fix estimates.
I'll probably just sell this phone as is and get what little I can out of it and move on to a newer phone like the Galaxy S9+.
I've decided it is cheaper to have LG fix a cracked screen. The cost is $146 (you pay the shipping to them, they cover the cost of shipping the phone back to you).
The only downside is the time it takes (up to 2 weeks)... but it's cheaper than all the kits I've found to do it yourself plus you know it'll be done right and your phone will still be under warranty.
Glass only repair is a very tough work, especially for LG V30 with curved screen, you could possibly ruin the whole screen. I think it's better to change a whole new display, there's a screen completely repair tutorial on Youtube, made by Wit Rigs, you could take that as a reference.

Are refurbished V30s still water resistant?

If I am buying a refurbished LG V30+ from a vendor on ebay, would it still be water resistant?? Assuming the phone has been opened I mean. Thank youuuuu
There should be a procedure for technicians to apply the seal after repair, so theoretically it should still retain the same original properties.

Bro. I have purchased refurbished V30+ from Amazon India on 14th Aug18.
Trust me i dont see its refurbished... Scratchless, spot less.
I had checked IP68 by putting whole phone in water jug...its still working playing movie inside water...
If its refurbished by LG yes ip68 is guaranteed, but if its refurbished by say a carrier store then no, they are not certified for ip68 rating and wont use the proper glue and procedure to accomplish that.
I had my screen replaced by LG. Did not retain IP68 as I saw moisture fog up in the front camera. Could be a number of reasons why IP rating was lost, but it happened.
