idk but I wasn't able to update the OTA
You can re-root using a new method, but I think they patched Stumproot. Also, the "bump" process to made thinks like TWRP and custom roms loadable was also broken, though you can get around that by flashing an older version aboot image, somehow.
If you have made any changes to system files, like you would want root for, you cannot OTA successfully. You can use the Verizon Software Update Tool though, or the new .kdz file. The Update tool replaces your whole phone image though, so no trace of root will be left afterwards.
But, then you can re-root.

The only reason I have/need root access is to bypass the hotspot charges. So I could do the OTA, which would unroot my phone and then reroot using what? And where is a good place to find the files and such?

Maybe this isn't the answer that you're looking for, but the easiest way to upgrade from rooted and with custom recovery on any release is to flash JasmineROM v7.0 and then the latest SuperSU.zip. JasmineROM v7.0 itself, without the separate mods or debloat zips, is 100% stock official release OTA 23C_01, besides the necessary partitions in order to keep your working custom recovery with it.
You can do the LG Backup from the settings menu for everything, then restore it under JasmineROM to keep everything that's possible.

Verizon pushed out yet another update this morning VS98026A. I renamed my hotspot files, put the old ones back in, powered my phone completely off for a minute. Turned the phone back on, took the OTA. Renamed the stock hotspot files to old, and placed the hacked hotspot files back. Rebooted the phone. I did not loose Root Access, and my hotspot still works.
Not really sure why Verizon push 2 updates in a week. NOTE: This is not KitKat 4.4.4
It is amazing with most of the searching I have done about this update, VS98026A, on how they say that this is the KitKat 4.4.4 update. When it isn't and we are still at 4.4.2.

Rooted vs98024a and did OTA to vs98026a and still have Root. Pretty neat we didn't lose Root.

I lost root. Not sure why though. And I cannot get root back as IOROOT seems to not work with 26A. It attempts to reboot to recovery and then the phone shows a little android robot on his back with belly open and a error indicator over him.

You would have to downgrade to 24A, gain root using iOROOT and run OTA.
Note: To be on the safe side, I revert my phone back to vs98010b and took it from there one step at a time.

I think I lost root during my attempts to get the OTA to work. I was getting the 111104 error due to the Hotspotprovision.apk. And simply renaming the apk to .bak didn't work to allow the OTA. From the LG mobile windows application I did a upgrade recovery option (some had posted that this would fix the problem). That did not fix the problem though. I was only able to do the OTA after I MOVED the file Hotspotprovision.bak out of system/app. Seems the OTA was scanning for "hotspotprovision". I didn't realize I had lost root before I took the OTA to 26A.
So note to all. Do NOT simply change the name to be a .bak. And do not upgrade the recovery as this removes root. The OTA like everyone says now, does not care about root. The failure to install is simply because of the file name being in the system/app folder.
Not sure how to go back to 24A. Probably not possible without flashing a STOCK ROM I'm guessing. I guess I'm stuck waiting for someone to root 26A.

Stump Root worked for me on 26A. Had to do the brute force thing and it took about 5 minutes, but it worked.
Stump root worked on LG G2 26A
Stump root worked. It auto used the brute forth method like you said. Thanks.
Finally I can program my bluetooth call button back to use google now voice search instead of LG voice command.

I rooted with the ioroot method, but had to use the manual method because the script did not work. It is rooted and i used the hack for the mobile hotspot, so that works. I never installed a custom recovery yet. My question is should I install this update 26A since I don't have a custom recovery, or does that have nothing to do with it?

Simply remove the modified mobile hotspot from system/app. That should allow you to take the OTA

Am I understanding the purpose of a custom recovery like TWRP is so you can flash roms or if you want to block OTA updates? At this point I am just interested in the stock rom, rooted, so I don't need a custom recovery right?

Correct, you don't need one. Note however you won't be able to do image (nandroid) backups/restores or flash images. So be very careful with your root privileges ?

Custom recovery allows you to flash roms, make nandroid backups, and do several other things. But it will make the phone so that you cannot get OTA updates. To apply updates when you have a custom recovery you will have to wait for someone to make the OTA update into a file you can flash.

I read yesterday that i wouldn't loose root if i took the 26A Update. I am running the stock ROM but have TWRP installed. I changed the settings for the hot spot and took the update. It rebooted and I am in TWRP. I cant figure out what to do to get it to boot up the Stock Rom. Please help.

I'm not familiar with TWRP commands, but sounds to me like the update tried to install by booting to recovery, but since it was not the stock recovery it could not update. Having a custom recovery in my experience has always made it so you can not take OTA updates. You would use the LG Mobile Support Tool to "upgrade recovery", that will basically restore the stock recovery. You will lose root. But you can update to 26A, and then use Stump root to get root again.

Look back a page. I had the same problem. You need to use the LG Mobile Support Tool and upgrade your recovery. Then take the over the air update. Then root again using Stump root.
I got the 0x1111004 error, and then the 0x1117008 error when trying to take the 25B and 26A update. I tried removing all of my framework and changes, but it didn't seem to help. Resorted to full KDZ wipe to 24A, then ioroot before taking the 26A update. It updated just fine and now I'm running the latest. Now to remove all the bloatware and restore my backups...
I'm hoping they don't push out any more OTA anytime soon unless it's L.
i got my g3 in mail today. looks a great phone in hand. just make sure this is the proper thing i m going to do to flash some rom. current software build is 11c. it needs to downgrade to 10b with kdz method. stump root then. install twrp recovery with flashify. then i could pick any rom i like to flash? is there anything wrong or i missed? anything i need to take care during flashing rom?

Sounds about right.
Unless you want to run plain stock for some reason, then don't use the kdz to downgrade. I downgraded using the stock 10b, rooted and then took each OTA making sure SU had keep root checked. I have a rooted stock 11C nandroid just in case I want it. Just a thought.

Sure but you wouldn't be able to take an OTA which some people like to do. Plus, can you get the VoLTE update on the VZW model? Not sure.
Anyway, to not have to worry about flashing separate modems, it's not really a huge deal to downgrade with the stock files.
Either way works which is why Android rocks. Options!

It downloads it and then it reboots, but almost immediately it shows me error 0x1117008, and then just reboots again and tells me the update failed. It doesnt give me any other info. Currently my phone shows Android version 4.4.2 and software version VS98511C and shows the Software status as Modified. Is there a way to get Lollipop? Would I have to unroot first? (If so, what is the best way? SuperSU offers me that option). I appreciate any help. Thanks.

You will have to flash back to either stock 12b via KDZ or go back to 10b and upgrade that way. Once rooted, you cannot update to LP via the OTA. Unrooting won't fix it either as it has already been modified.
If you flash back to 12b via KDZ, it will still show your software as modified, but the OTA will take.
Then you can use the one-click root method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951) to root LP.

Not sure about Linux. I believe it all has to be done via Windows if using the KDZ or TOT methods.

10b is great, and everything just works. I am not sure why any one wants to "upgrade" to 23c given Google has not fixed the memory leak issues, but if you want to, read on.
If you have rooted, you do not want to upgrade by OTA. OTA is patches to the unmodified stock firmware. It will fail if your phone is in anyway modified. Here is what you can do:
1. Install TWRP manager from Google Play.
2. From TWRP manager you can choose your phone model and download and install TWRP recovery.
3. Follow the instruction from this link to use TWRP to install the 23c

There is an IPv6 fix that you can flash to solve it.
I upgraded using the Verizon tool on the computer. I was rooted.
My wife insisted on remaining stock on her VS985... Until the lolliplop update. She wants her kitkat back and I cannot find a way to do it yet. I have successfully rooted it but cannot get a custom recovery install to stick. I have tried the methods that I know for the kitkat version, to install philz and twrp and get an error message upon reboot. Has an exploit been figured out yet to downgrade from stock lollipop?
I use the kdz method to return to 10b stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/guide-flash-to-stock-10b-kdz-method-t2928140
After you are rooted http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906 and on 10b i use flashify to flash the twrp img. From there just find a nice stock KK rom for her.
This is just how i do things and find it fairly easy.
Or directly flash the 12B KDZ, use the new root script if you want her phone rooted and use Flashily from the Play Store to flash TWRP.

The One Click Root works like a boss.
It worked effortlessly on my new phone.
I sticking with 12B rooted too, as it seems to be a good solid O/S.
I rooted without issue, I was stuck at installing twrp. I did get it to work, using autorec! Slapped twrp in, and romed out to jasmine 4. I hope that this helps others out down the road.

I wanted to know if there is a customer kernal I can install to improve battery life and/or if anyone knows the good Tricker Mod settings to set up so the battery life improves, that would be helpful as well.

You will need to install TWRP to install a custom kernel.
I am running Jasmine ROM 8.0 with the Skydragon 4.2 Kernel with great battery life.

Besides using the root method @quadjacks linked to below, just wanted to make sure you know that in order to root 24B, you have to come from a string of at least two OTAs. In other words, if you at any time flashed the 23C KDZ, then after you take the 24B OTA, you won't be able to root the phone, at least that's our experience.
You will be able to root it (not using the one-click but the one @quadjacks links to) if you flash the 12B KDZ, then OTA to 23C, then OTA to 24B.

For most people who have tried and reported back, including myself several times and with all the root methods I could think of, that didn't work, but a couple of people have reported being able to root after OTAing from 23C.

There is a 24B KDZ available. I also have used this KDZ and then been able to root.

I'm aware of that, too - I posted the link to it, but I haven't had the inclination to flash it and try rooting after. I won't be surprised since the first method I mentioned in the previous message, flashing the 23C KDZ and taking the OTA, then trying to root, didn't work myself and several others that it won't work for me with flashing the 24B KDZ directly, but I'm just speculating. I'm sure I'll attempt it again when I have a need to reset to completely stock unrooted again unless by that time I'm in too much of a hurry to take another new OTA that may come and try to root that first.

I was able to root after flashing the 24B KDZ. The root.bat did not work (hung on the installing root part). But I was able to do option 2 and manually push the files and install root with one minor change. The first time I ran the Send_Command to push root it hung, I did a ctrl-C on it then ran it again right after and it went through. Then I did the send_command reboot and the phone rebooted and was rooted when it came up. I did this a couple of times and had the same results every time, first send_command would hang and I had to break out of it (ctrl-c) the send_commands after that worked fine. Not sure why that is but that is what worked for me. Just wanted to share in case anyone is having the same problem.
And then after rooting 24B, how to install TWRP??? I tried and got the Security Error message. Help would be appreciated.

I downloaded version 2.8.7.0 then used adb to install with the instructions from this thread...

Just to present another option, in the Play Store, search for:
Code:
autorec VS985
It'll install TWRP v2.8.6.x and downgrade your bootloader, which you can then update TWRP to the latest from within the "old" version.

I spent the greater part of the evening trying to root my LG G3 VS985 unsuccessfully, but I don't recall if it is the 24B. I got it off eBay to upgrade my current RazrHD which is hopelessly underpowered - but it is rooted, and didn't want to lose my unlimited data plan on VZW. Need to mark this thread for all the helpful comments.
The methods of rooting I tried were the One-Click, both the gui and the CLI script with similar results of hanging trying to "see" the device, I tried PurpleDrake, but I think it is for a different LG or android version, and there was one other method that I got from a link either here on XDA or another android forum, but all seemed to have the same problem - once you connect the phone, it initially tries to connect to the device, but never succeeds, just keeps you waiting for the root push to start, but it never does. I was using a Win-7 PC and laptop, switching back and forth to see if I could get one of them to work........ Of course, I have the developer option enabled and turned on the USB debugging. I really like this LG G3 and want to get this thing rooted!!
The other root method I tried was ioroot; I checked my folders. Further reading seems to indicate I may be SOL unless I want to wait for someone to figure it out; oh, yeah, and I tried towelroot as well, but it only tells me my device is not supported........I plan to try one more root method - stumproot, and see if it can bruteforce it. If not, will be a sadder day.......

Ok-Full specs on my LG G3 that I want to root....
Running android 5.0.1
Build: LRX21Y
Software Version: VS985 23C
Went back and looked at some of the info and it can be confusing; some root progs need certain version of android running, on a certain set of builds and proper software versions........ enough to make you want to start drinking...... Going to go back one more time and see what I can do to organize all this disparate info and make some more sense out of it. On the plus side, since I have the 32GB version/model, it has 3GB RAM which I confirmed, and even though I have a ton of junky bloat stuff running that I can't currently stop, the phone is running like a champ.

I can get into twrp.... just cant boot to system. I'm really dont want to have to KDZ back. Thanks
I used autorec to flash twrp on my 24b LP VZW G3. That was successful. Then booted to recovery...made a backup... then flashed twrp 2870 img, then booted recovery... then booted system and it went to LG bootlogo with Security Error message.
I'd really love to get this straightened out if possible. Would appreciate any advice and help.

I apologize for the misinformation! I realized earlier after reading what some others had said that in all the testing I had done regarding 24B that I had actually NOT run autorec on 24B, or at least not *just* autorec. To fix your phone, download and flash JasmineROM 8.0. If you felt adventurous, all you really need out of the JasmineROM 8.0 zip is the bootloader (aboot.img) and possibly the kernel (boot.img) too. The changes to the bootloader and possibly the kernel too are what get rid of the security error with TWRP installed.
