LG has launched its 105-inch 5K Curved Ultra HD TV (105UC9T) in India at the Tech Show 2015 in Delhi along with its G Flex 2 smartphone. The 5K TV offers resolution of over 11 million pixels (5120 x 2160), five times more than on a Full HD TV and CinemaScope 21:9 aspect rati0 offering ultra-sharp, lifelike images. It also comes integrated with 7.2 channel 150 W speakers designed by Harmon/Kardon and has WebOS smart interface.
It achieves its superior picture quality through LG’s True 4K Engine Pro and IPS 4K Panel. True 4K Engine Pro eliminates visual errors and can upscale lower-resolution content into near-Ultra HD quality while the IPS 4K Panel provides consistent contrast, true-to-life colors and a wide viewing angle.
The curvature of the display has been carefully calibrated to maximize the immersive ambiance, says the company. LG Smart+TV *is centered on the intuitive webOS platform that lets you discover new shows, apps and services, or connecting to media stored on external devices. The resolution on the XZ is better than the N10 because it's more practical. At 10+ inches away you won't see the difference in PPI between the two displays. And the lower resolution (but still FHD) display will use less CPU/GPU power and battery. Speaking of battery, 6,000 mAh is pretty small for a 10.1" tablet with a S4 Pro CPU and FHD display. That could be the XZ's Achilles Heal. The rest of the specs are indeed impressive.
Stock Android and stock Nexus are so good and at such a low price that they will keep me happy whilst I receive the timely Android updates
Naturally, a newer tablet will be better than an older tablet at least hardware wise or else it wouldn't sell.
That said, the Xperia Tablet Z will probably do better than the Nexus 10 in probably almost all aspects except development, text clarity, and possibly line-out (headphone) sound quality. Image clarity and such is much better suited for a 1080p screen unless there is a sudden surge and revolution of 1440p+ displays in this coming year.

According to numerous sources and GSMarena the nexus 10 has 3.0
If I need 4G/LTE, I'll just tether it to my Verizon phone I already have.
Otherwise, I see nothing in that list which would cause me to jump ship or even give a second thought about.
More than happy with the design and engineering on the N10.

There's a similar debate about the value of PPI going on in the DNA forums. It matters less than you think. This is from that discussion...

The thing people lose sight of (no pun intended) is that the human eye is only capable of processing and resolving images at a certain level. Any detail beyond that level is literally wasted. I don't know what the exact numbers are for the Note and N10 but at 147 PPI the Note's above 1 arcminute and at 299 PPI the N10's below it. So you'll notice a difference on text and CGI (but not images and video) but it's not as pronounced as some people here have said unless they have super-human vision. And with the new fixation on resolution things like brightness, contrast, and color accuracy get swept under the rug because all people are focusing on is a PPI count rather than the actual quality of the display. In those areas the Note’s display outperforms the N10’s. And the 1080P display on the DNA isn’t as good in those areas as the 720P display on the One X it's supposedly better than. Remember that when you're salivating over a 441 PPI 1080P smartphone that’s going to be hyped to death this year.

And this is a good article explaining why pics and videos won't seem any sharper on a 720P, 1080P, or the N10's unique resolution display. And everything gets upscaled on the N10 which doesn't help with detail and image quality.
For most people, though, it won't matter. Photos are inherently fuzzy, so it won’t matter whether they’re viewed on a 1920×1080 or 1280×720 smartphone display; you’ll still see their imperfections. "Even the tiniest image detail in a photograph is always spread over more than one pixel," Dr. Soneira explained in a follow-up e-mail. "The image detail is never perfectly aligned with the pixel structure of the display." Videos are even worse: not only are they fuzzy like photographs, but the pictures are constantly moving. I skimmed through your post and I apologize beforehand if I'm missing some nuances in your post, but I think you misread my post completely. The only thing that can really make use of a 1440p screen at this moment is text which is why I mentioned "text clarity." It is also why I said, if there is a sudden surge of 1440p displays, the N10's high resolution will be better than 1080p. This is simply because 1080p displays will be considered old tech and designers and such will move on to support 1440p displays. The chances of 1440p being adopted to be the standard this year is probably 0%.
I never said it mattered. In fact I always thought PPI is a gimmick and will always be a gimmick beyond 220ish.
Also, just to put it out there, I maintain a theme to up-res the icons on the N10 so those icons don't get upscaled; I'm pretty sure I know what drawbacks there are with having such a high resolution screen.
Another thing - you talk about image quality, but you quote someone talking about photos. Things that are drawn on a computer will be clearer than a photo by a long shot. Those types of images can take advantage of such a high resolution screen. Photography on the other hand really doesn't matter what resolution you view it on for the reason you quoted.

I just threw that info out there because I thought people would find it interesting; it wasn't directed at you per se. And at 10" away text won't look any better on the N10 than it would on the XZ. And that has nothing to do with the display's themselves, it's all about why the human eye can discern. As an example, at that distance, text looks no worse on the N2's 720P display than it does on the DNA's 1080P display based solely on the N2's ability to achieve a subtense of 1 arcmiture at 267PPI. Only if the N10's display is closer to 1 arcminute (below it doesn't matter) than the NZ's would you notice a difference. Now if you hold it 5" away or look at it under a microscope you'll see a difference.

You're right in that if you hold it 10" away you won't see a difference. Unfortunately not all people do and there will always be people who can discern that difference.

If it was $399.99 and battery didn't suck I would probably get it. It also depends on whether or not I sell my Nexus 4 for a Xperia Z. My tablet will match my phone. Lol

Sony is one of the most AOSP friendly manufactures out there so I doubt it. I am a Nexus guy for life but Sony builds some quality stuff and are good with updates. As fast as Nexus no, but they won't Samsung it and sit on an update for a year and update it at the same time Google releases that versions replacement.

The upper-bound threshold's been set by the Note 10.1 (32GB $549), N10 (32GB $499), and TF700 (32GB $499). So with 32GB of storage the Xperia Z won't be more than $499 (the Note gets away with more because of S Pen). If Sony's smart they'll price it at $449 to gain some traction in the market. Asus only sold 250K 10.1" tablets a month in Q3 and the TF300 had a MSRP of $349. High-end Android tablets just don't sell well. The Note 10.1 was selling a million a month in Q3 so that makes it an exception. We'll see if that run rate continued in to Q4 when analysts disect Samsung's earnings. Also keep in mind that the specs shown are for the Japanese market Xperia Z. The global and U.S versions could be different. And until something's confirmed at MWC next month we don't even know for sure if there will be global and U.S. versions.

4K Display on phones Must not be underestimated! All you can do with 4k Vr!

I Already started another thread trying to explain why imo a 4K Display is crucial for the future of VR and why the Galaxy Note 8 should keep its promise to include a 4K Display. (Link under Post Scriptum).
---- Then I realize that most people think that VR is just a gimmick and doesn't have its uses. Most users just picked up VR for 10 minutes, liked it and then forget about it. This would have been a completely different if that Display was 4K.
In this thread I will try to explain things that can be done with VR and thus show how these experiences would improve drastically with a 4K VR Display on your phone. This thread will aim to inform people who are not that familiar with technology and especially with VR, but still may be curious of what it can do.
1. Pocket Movie Theatre with true 3D Experience:
You remember when 3D tvs were "in"? And that period of time when movie companies started to release all their content in 3D for movie theatres. Well, there's a reason why 3D stood strong in Movie Theaters since then and not in the living room's Tv. The reason is simple. Movie theaters offer a "Focused" experience with a huge Screen, while the living room is more casual and most common 3D tv screen panels can't compete with the silver screen. VR can.
Most VR users only focus on 360 videos for VR or 3D-360 videos, but they mostly forget about an important alternative: Watching 3D Movies in a Virtual movie theater!
When I used the Gear VR with my Note 7, I was amazed how the experience of being in a Movie Theater was Vivid! BUT Don't get me wrong! Usually I hate watching 3D movies in movie theaters. It's dark, blurry, I hate it. And I hated it on my Asus laptop with a 3D Screen. Again, too dark. But when I tried to watch a 3D movie on the Gear VR, I truly liked it. I thought "now this is how 3D is supposed to be. VR is the gateway to true 3D". The "3D" experience makes sense only in VR. That's what you understand as soon as you try it.

But still, something was missing. It was all there, but not quiet yet. I could still see individual pixels. This is called the "Screen-Door effect". Basically it means being able to differentiate pixels on the display. One thing was then obvious. The Display resolution of the Note 7 was not bad at all. But double it, and you'd have a better experience without the Screen Door Effect. 2K is not there yet. It gives you an idea what VR could be, but also states that "4K" is the resolution to start VR.

Now you can easily imagine that when not zoomed you would hardly see any pixels on the Pimax 4K.
This shows how a 4K Display is the Milestone for VR. It's THE Resolution that once achieved, truly offers a decent VR experience all can embrace. Is it the ultimate? Of course not. 8K will be better, at 16k we won't see any pixels even when zooming etc... But 4K, even not the ultimate resolution that VR must reach to be perfect, is THE resolution that will validate VR and allow it to be mainstream. VR Should have started at 4K. It's safe to think that starting VR at 2K is premature and stained its capabilities.
With all that in mind, now maybe you could imagine an immersive 3D movie experience right in your pocket thanks to a 4K Display. And no movie theater or home tv system would even come close to compete with that experience.

2. Virtual Desktop
You already know how much technology tries to shrink the size of computing. And based on the past, everyone accepts that the future is "Stronger tech in smaller package". With the Snapdragon 835, smartphones now take a bolder step toward pc level computing. And one of the first steps came with Samsung's Dex. To come to my point, let's first see what Samsung achieved with Dex.
The Dex is simply a dock connected to a monitor in which when you insert your Galaxsy S8, it changes the basic android interface to a PC like interface and transmits the changed pc like interface to the monitor it is connect to, for a PC Like experience. A mouse and keyboard connected to the phone thanks to bluetooth are the last peripherals that allows a full "pc like" usage.

My Point is, you don't need that. You can use your Gear VR as a monitor for your Phone. Many apps allow that. But wait. That's not all. There's more.
What if I told you that you could use a true Full Featured PC with Intel and Nvidia level performance on your phone already. And you could use your Gear VR as the biggest monitor ever. Yes, this is possible thanks to a new streaming service called "Liquidsky". This service offers you a "Streamed PC" available to you anywhere you go. Your Steam account, or Ubisoft account any other gaming account including your game library and any other Desktop application you like can be used thanks to this PC streaming service.
What this allows you to do is incredible. You truly don't need a laptop anymore. Just your phone and you're done. The streaming service uses its own server to compute and process your games and your interaction with the minimum latency, and streams you the screen which you can watch on your phone's display. Since the service also supports VR, you can actually play your game on a huge VR Screen, bigger than any gaming monitor. Imagine playing your game on a Movie Theater. Yes. GTA 5 on a movie theater. Knowing that 2K is less than decent to watch video content, wouldn't you want to have a 4K Display for a total immersion?
On the link above you can watch how to use Liquidsky on Android. In the video you will see that they can play GTA 5 on the smartphone, thanks to their streaming service. And sony has already jumped on the Streaming bandwagon already with their Playstation NOW! Service. It's only a matter of time that it will be available on Android. But IT IS avalaible on PC. Which again, you could use Liquidsky to stream Playstation NOW, and there you have it. PS3 games on your smartphone.

Any streaming service to come, like the one mentioned above, already is supporting, and will support, VR. So imagine playing your favorite PC or Playstation game thanks to your smartphone, on a gigantic Movie Theater size Screen on VR! With a 2K Display, the experience wouldn't be as neat and clear as a 4K Display. Any display on your smartphone short of 4K Resolution would make the experience "fun but tiring, not quiet there yet". 4K is THE resolution that would truly immerse you and make you forget that you are staring at a Virtual Screen.
3. Exclusive 4K Content for your Phone.
You realize that the two points I mentioned above are not even content directly aiming your smartphone. These are just the "side effects" of evolving smartphone technology toward VR capabilities. But there are so much more you can do just because your phone has a 4K Display. Here are basic VR and non VR features you can do with a 4K Display:
- Watching 4K 3D 360 or 180 degree videos. Way more immersive experience than what the common 2K content offers.
- Youtube's own 4K 3D, 4K 3D 360 Videos. If you think that 4K is niche, you should know that Youtube already jumped into 8K.

- Able to see 4K Videos and pictures you shot thanks to your device in their native resolution on your smartphone. About that here's a review where Erika tests the 4K Display on Sony's latest flagship, which unfortunately has an LCD screen which is terrible for VR. But still, even as it can't be used for VR, (at least not as effectively as an AMOLED Displays can), Erika reviews the Display and claims that "Yes your eyes are able to see the difference between 2k and 4K".

- And of course the 4K VR gaming content that would soon enter the Android Playstore, as soon as Samsung stands behind the 4K Display.

4K Display is not just a gimmick. It could open the biggest and the sharpest window to what your phone could show you. It would definitely take off the VR experience drastically. And as I already told in my previous thread, Samsung, or any other phone company, MUST, SHOULD bring a 4K Amoled Display for VR as soon as possible, if they want VR to have a brighter future.

Also some mentions and questions how 4K would affect the Battery and the latest Sony 4K display flagship:
- Some worry about the Battery life. Well, this can easily be fixed as sony did on their latest flagship xperia XZ Premium. The phone uses a Full HD display for the everyday use. It initiates 4K when video applications starts. These can be change in options of course.
Same could be done for any 4K Display Smartphone. Just use a normal resolution for casual use, and switch to 4K when using VR, or a video app. Of course, even those settings could be change.
- Talking of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, it has a 4K LCD Display which creates problems for VR such as motion blurr thus making it hard to use. Yes, it's weird to see Sony bring up a 4K display while totally ignoring VR.

The issue is not creating a 4K display. The issue at hand is creating hardware that can process and render that massive detail onto a 4K display. THAT and that alone is why it started at 2k. Storage is not at par. Internet needs gigabit speeds at the least. And video cards neeed at least 4x improvement. While I agree 4K is a minimum requirement, 4k VR is just not here yet and hardware companies like Nvidia or intel are in no rush to release capable hardware. There’s no profit in rushing

VR on the Xperia 1 ??

I have recently got my Xperia 1 here in the Netherlands and am really enjoying the Media benefits of the screen. I was wondering if anyone has tried VR with it?
I come from the S8 and have used Gear VR, but the truth is the SDE was always an issue as a distraction especially for movies and Netflix (Oculus APP).
Can someone maybe try a 3rd party VR lens and let me know the quality in terms of SDE, also would appreciate the suggestion for a good 3rd party gear compatible with the width of the Xperia 1. The 643 ppi of the screen coupled with OLED makes for a killer combination.
Sony should have just made a GearVR-ish setup for this and made it compatible with PS4 remote play, a lost opportunity there SONY!!

Hello, I am interested as well which headset will fit the 21:9 ratio. I have owned Xperia XZ Premium for 2 years and have enjoyed the 4K (807ppi) which I can tell a difference from high end Samsung counterparts. Xperia 1 is less in PPI but it is OLED screen so I wonder quality-wise what would be the difference. Thanks

Hello, I own both Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia 1. From hands on experience, I feel Xperia 1 is better than Xperia XZ Premium when I compared both on the same clip.
Additionally, most 360 videos out there are 4K, 5K or 6K which I don't think would utilized full PPI of Xperia 1 nor Xperia XZ Premium. Those 4K, 5K or 6K resolution means total resolution for entire 360 canvas, so when you view it, the FOV is just a portion of it therefore you are not viewing the entire full 5k or 6K resolution. I am not an expert, but I am thinking it may take something like 12K+ video to fully utilize the phone screen quality...
Hello, I used Noon VR headset to try out VR with Xperia 1. Never ever tried VR before so no comparaison here. But SDE is not disturbing, you see it if you focus on it, I tried to get the photo as it appears, but it's slightly more visible in real life.
But then the main issue is that like 95% of the store app, VR app are not natively in 4k, so a 12K video will get downscaled into a FHD or 2K image by the APP, then upscaled to the 4k screen by the phone. So SDE is good, but quality not so much. But then again, just tried some game and video with the NOON VR app, now I'm waiting for the valve index xD
Also wanted to point out that OLED is not that good for VR since it use a pentile subpixel arrangement, that is less sharp than a true RGB arrangement you will find on LCD panels. That's the reason why Valve went with LCD rather than OLED.
That's also the reason why the 4k screen make sense on the phone, it reduce the blur effect induced by the amoled pentile panels.

I have been using the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G as my primary device for almost 7 months now, and here comes a usage experience or we can say an In-depth review of the device. So without any further ado let's get started.

1. Camera​
Cameras are an important point when it comes to OPPO devices, so its no surprise to see more photo and video features, coupled with capable camera hardware on the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G. The device is equipped with 64MP Main Camera, along with an Sony IMX 355 8MP ultrawide angle camera and two 2MP sensors – one for macro and the other for monochrome photography. The Reno6 Pro 5G also comes with Electronic image stabilization (EIS). You may be happy to learn that Ultra Steady video mode is available too. It has higher dynamic range, giving backlight shots clearer, more colourful details in both shadows and well-lit areas. The main camera can record 4K 60FPS videos.
Reno6 Pro 5G comes with a 32MP Sony IMX 615 sensor snapper for selfies and video chats. I found the 32MP front camera to be very good, which shoots some clear images with a good amount of details present on the face tones. Selfies taken during the day looked decent, Portrait mode is quite useful. My experience with the camera was very delightful and extra ordinary. It was a perfect blend of all the factors that one wants from a camera app like Saturation, Exposure, Auto-Focusing, Focus tracking etc & the features like Bokeh Flare Portrait, Flash snapshot and many more made the Camera Department stand out from the rest.
2. Design & In-Hand Feel​
The first thing that caught my eyes was the beautiful design. The device come in two color options i.e. Aurora & Stellar Black. I have the Stellar Black variant. It comes with OPPO's exclusive Reno Glow design, providing a unique back design because the AG glass has glossy and matte both in his back as some like glossy textures. Combining Reno Glow glass which using a crystal drilling technique to create millions of pyramid-shaped crystal structures at a microscopic level, and Diamond Spectrum body which is the combination of five core elements, the new Aurora variant could shine a million colors while holding in different angles.View attachment 914137195647074310.webp
And in terms of in-hand feel, OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G weighs only 177g which is quite lighter than any other smartphone and it also has a thickness of 7.6 mm which is much much thinner. The clean, minimalistic, quite elegant design is very comfortable in my hand and gives me a classy premium experience while holding the device in my hands.
3. Display​
OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G has a 6.5" OLED Curved Single Punch-hole display with Refresh rate of 90Hz, Touch sampling rate of 180Hz, and Screen-to-body ratio of 93.4%. My view on display is that when it comes to the display quality of the smartphone, you will not be disappointed by using it to watch videos on various OTT platforms and YouTube. The punch hole doesn't result in much of a hindrance in the viewing experience. There’s also support for Widevine L1, HDR 10+ Certification and thanks to the OLED display, which offers accurate colors. And also it has SGS Eye Care display certification. 4. Performance​
The phone is packed with MediaTek's flagship processor, Dimensity 1200. The octa-core Dimensity 1200 features one of the fastest smartphone CPUs ever. For all gamers, performance is a most important part. I played a lot of heavy games like BGMI and COD MOBILE and I was able to play both of them on high settings with high frame rate. Even at Ultra frame rate and HDR graphics, BGMI worked like a charm and I didn’t found any heating or frame drop problems with the phone. Thanks to the Multi-cooling system that prevents overheating. So, with the Performance on I don't have any issues and really impressed specially in gaming and multitasking works absolutely fine.View attachment 914137626133659652.webp
5. Battery​
The OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G gets a massive 4,500mAh battery. With moderate usage, I was easily getting somewhere around 8hr of screen on time. And, in order to quickly charge this mega battery, there's also a 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 Charge, which can take it from zero to 100 in about 31 min. Other important feature I can't miss to share with you all is Super Power Saving Mode. With this mode turned ON, the battery life shoots up. Running low on battery? The combination of 4500mAh + 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 makes this smartphone survive for a long time whether you play your favorite games or listen to the music or watch videos for hours. When it comes to charging speed I never want to go back after using that 65W SuperVOOC I just simply in love with how fast it gets charged. Yes I'm very happy with the battery life.
6. Software​
The OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G comes with Android 11 and ColorOS 11.3 on board. The user interface is clean, pleasing to eyes, icon designs, smooth animation while opening & closing the apps, everything is perfectly balanced with tons of customisation options found on ColorOS 11.3, But one thing that amazed me a lot is that it comes with native Google stock apps. Yes, we get stock apps like stock dialer apps, messages. Instead of a smart assistant on the left end of the home page now we get Google now. I'm really impressed with ColorOS 11.3, and loved the overall UI experience. Mainly, the sets of customisation it offers are on the next level, being honest this is what I always wanted at the moment.

After spending 3 months with OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G and i just fall in love with device. For me it's a beast device at the price point it is available right now. MediaTek Dimensity 1200 Processor which not only gives you a smooth and amazing gaming experience but also a well optimised powerful device. Camera is the mainThis is only smartphone in this price segment having DSLR effect. Bokeh Flare Portrait mode which is a cool new feature no doubt. The battery performance is good as well and the addition of 65W fast-charging makes the deal unbeatable. The way that it looks and sits in your hand is bound to win you over. Plus the gorgeous curved AMOLED display, how smooth and slick it feels in daily usage. It is one of the slim and light device which you really feel in your hands but also looks premium. I feel most users will be happy after buying this phone, especially those who are looking for a stylish, sleek phone. Overall I'm happy and satisfied with the same at the moment
