SystemUI and Settings APK - Galaxy Note 4 Themes and Apps

Hello,
Many users here are helpful and I have learned a lot..
To thank these good people I've modded a couple of Lollipop apk's and will upload them here for others as a thank you.
These two have been modded for my personal use.
SystemUI.apk mod:
After upgrading my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910G) to Android Loillipop 5.0.1 I was again facing the much disliked "S Finder" and "Quick Connect" buttons in the notification tray.
As I dislike the S Finder and Quick Connect being in the notification tray, they have been removed.
Settings.apk mod:
Since I have disabled/removed a lot of apps I have no use for the following items, they have been removed from the Settings menu
Accessibility
Easy mode
Private mode
Safety assistance
These apk's need to be copied into their original locations (will need root access)
Please back up your original files before doing any of this as I am not responsible if you stuff something up :crying:
SystemUI.apk is located in /system/priv-app/SystemUI
SecSettings.apk is located in /system/priv-app/SecSettings
You will need to set the permissions to these files once you copy them over to rw-r-r--
Regards..
Here are the files
SecSettings.apk
http://www.mediafire.com/download/ctlzcyvenc2jka8/SecSettings.apk
SystemUI.apk
http://www.mediafire.com/download/cg1ne5ab3ue8j7m/SystemUI.apk
Enjoy

Will this work on SM-N910C?

Hi jmcostales,
I am not sure. I can only suggest that you "back up" your files and then try each one and see how you go. If the SystemUI.apk doesn't work for you the worst that will happen is a crash and no notification menu/pull-down. You will be able to copy over your old file and go back. I would assume the same thing for SecSettings.apk. It will either work or just simply crash when you try to access it. If it crashes just copy the old one back. If you decide to try these files don't forget to set the permissions once you copy the files over.

Thank you this work for me. you made me happy

[Q] Fix for invisible sub-menu?

After rooting via Indirect's method, many sub-menus are not readable due to the text being the same color. Has anyone found a standalone fix for this? (I noticed snowball mod addresses it but am already rooted).
there is a partial fix available, but as of now it isn't practical to implement.
btw, there is a discussion about this later down the board. I can't link to it right now. I asked the same question, and I was told to use search instead of the answer and a link to the discussion. I wanted to let you know better than I was told what was going on about this issue.
From what I understand this is a non-trivial problem to solve.
The snowball root method has the fix for this, but its injected while in the root process, but i have read that the framework-res.apk provided in the snowball-mod.zip contains the fix (replaced files) and apparently by just replacing this .apk to your existing system/framework/framework-res.apk it should do the job. However i haven't found someone that has tested this yet and i dont have my nook yet so if you want to give it a try DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. Dont worry if it doesn't work you may get bootlops or FC's nothing major and by doing the "magic card" method for go back to stock you be fine again.
I will attach the framework-res.apk if someone wants to give it a try and please report back the results.
*NOTE: You need to uncompress first and inside you will find the .apk
Path: system/framework/
1. Copy the .apk to your sdcard
2. Using a file explorer (eg. root explorer, es file explorer) navigate to your sdcard find the .apk you just copied and copy it
3. Go back and navigate to system/framework/
4. rename the existing framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.bak
5. immediately hit paste
6. reboot
7. report back

i can confirm that this works. the only thing you would need to double check before replacing the framework-res.apk is to check the permissions and make sure they are correct because once you replace the apk, the NT auto reboots and if you did the process correctly it will boot up normally, otherwise you will be stuck in an infinite boot loop...
The fix did not work for me I made sure the permissions were the same but my go launcher settings are still white on white

If you got the snowball bootanimation then the framework-res.apk applied just fine.
However, as I may have mentioned above, but have certainly mentioned elsewhere: the white-on-white fix in snowball-mod is a stop-gap for one specific set of menus (and could even cause black-on-black for those menus!)
We cannot fix all white-on-white, and black-on-black problems without entirely retheming just about everything in the framework-res.apk, which involves the backgrounds and the texts.
As noted above: "this is a non-trivial solution".
Does the snowball animation say hack by Barnes & Noble?
Edit Looks like the modified framework-res.apk file is what is causing the nook not to charge while its on as my nook has stopped charging when its on which sucks as I use the nook constantly through out the day.
Well, if you want to just spill the beans like that... yes.
Just wanted to make sure it had taken as I havent payed any attention the boot animation in the past

[REQ] TouchWiz30Launcher

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and if its possible I'm gonna ask for help here.
I'm losing hope with this, I followed all the guides regarding in modifying touchwiz however whenever I edit an xml file even just a letter and recompile it again, it won't work. I set the permissions to rwx-rxx-rxx in the /system/app but still its not listed as an installed application in all application lists. TB shows it as an uninstalled app/orphan. I already managed to deodexed my touchwiz so I don't know the problem anymore. What I'm trying mod with my touchwiz is as follows:
*5 icons dock (original icons) /no dock background or some line above dock just like original
*5 rows homescreen
*application_name=Samsung home to Home
*transparent menu_background
*fly in effect
*launcher:defaultScreenCount = 1
*automatically sorting apps to alphabetical
*disable homescreen app labels
I downloaded an already modded touchwiz3 to set as my model for editing, its perfect however what I don't like in it is the line above the dockbar and whenever I set the homescreen number to only 1, the homescreen icons/widgets are scrolling. I uploaded the 3 files (original/downloaded/my modded), could someone check what I'm missing in my work? BTW, I'm on a stock S5300DXLF2.
I'll appreciate all the help in advance, thanks.

edit.how did u named the apk?
MANYGREEEEEEEETZ!!!
Yes, I set the permissions to rw-r--r-- but still its not showing up as an installed application. I deodexed the original touchwiz using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600805 but still it won't let me edit a single line in an xml file. What could be the problem?
Regarding your question about how did I named the apk, are you talking about the filename.apk (TouchWiz30Launcher.apk)? I didn't change that in the /system/app directory.
try to sign the apk
I finally managed to make it work, I copied all the files I edited from the new compiled apk to the original apk and I pushed back the original apk. However the application name and the menu background transparency didn't change at all. Since I don't know where the values folder goes after recompiling an apk, I don't know where to copy it from the new apk to paste to the original apk.

This is the problem of signing the app... use vts to compile, decompile and signing... I guess it will work...
Sent from......... I guess you know it...
I tried using VTS, but that didn't help either changing the application name. I'm having another problem adding rows to homescreen, I changed the longaxiscells to 5 but I'm getting FC.
how is it .. is it good ?
Any of this is like the one in JellyBlastV3 rom??? With the transperant dock and stuff??? And I just push it using root explorer??? And set permissions??

[Q] PinyinMe to normal APK, English only and AZERTY

So there is this PinyinMe keyboard which looks the most like an iphone keyboard which I like as my phone is an iPhone Replica.
1. So the things I want to do is change the APK to a normal APK but I only know the way by TitaniumBackup but this app aint installed so it doesnt work.
2. The next thing I want to do is edit the APK xml files so I can remove all the chinese signs in it and change it to normal letters (mainly english).
- I already tried this but the APK wont install
3. If this is all working, I would like to make a second version of it which has AZERTY keyboard instead of QWERTY.
Please, I would really apreciate it and others too.

You have two files in the zip. One is an .apk and the other is an .odex file.
I saw this thread as I was browsing around and came across your GooApple thread.
I am not sure what your level of expertise is, but basically, an apk from a manufacturer comes in two parts (.apk and .odex). If you want to edit the app, you must either edit both the .apk and .odex files, or you can 'deodex' the file which basically takes the contents of the .odex file and places it inside the .apk file.
If you have deodexed an apk file (removed the need for the .odex), you no longer need the .odex file. In this way, you get 'deodexed' ROMs with no .odex files inside. These are much easier to edit and work with.
There are lots of tutorials to find out more about this and about deodexing and editing .apk files if you search.
Here is a good starting point
If you are already aware of this, I apologise

Hey man, thanks for giving me this information.
I did read about deodexing but havent had the time to look it up. And I think TBP does the deodex (I could be wrong) when changing the system app to a user app.
Anyways, I have been able to edit the xml & png's, but whenever I try to install the newly created APK, I get the error : App not installed.
Maybe this deodexing can do the trick, I'll test it out once I find 30min of free time ^^
Titanium backup doesn't deodex the .apk. That is why you are having the issue. You can swap pngs etc without decompiling, but to edit smali and some xmls etc you have to decompile... it is much easier if you have first deodexed your apk to remove the .odex file.

I did recompile a working APK, but when I put it all back together and try as a system/normal app and do zipalign or no zipalign, I always get an error or just a crash. But probably deodexing will do the trick.
Hopefully I'll get some time this week for doing it cause its like:

[Q] SystemUI.apk won't load - Jiayu G4 JB 4.2.2

Hi, I already took a look around this forum and searched for this problem on Google, but i can't find an useful solution that is not "reinstall the ROM"
and i would like to avoid it.
I'm trying to edit my SystemUI.apk, to make the status-bar background back to black. (right now it's trasparent and it's driving me crazy)
with apktool i installed the framework-res.apk and the systemui.apk, then i extracted the systemui.apk, modified it, i placed inside the resources.arsc then recompiled it, i took the apk into systemui/dist and placed back on my cellphone, then i replaced the original SystemUI.apk with fx root explorer and my jiayu rebooted by himself.
Then I saw that the status bar, notifications, wallpaper, everything, was disappeared, i can't toggle anymore my smartphone to the pc.
There was a backup of the systemui.apk, systemui.odex and framework-res.apk, so i placed back the systemui.apk and the systemui.odex (like always).
Then i rebooted the smartphone manually but the wallpaper/statusbar/etc. (all the informations inside systemui.apk) still won't load.
I tried replacing them again, shutting down, remove the battery, rebooting, replace the framework, i tried everything that was coming to mind to me.
On the internet i found a way to solve this problem with ADB toggle, but I can't find a way to make it work: it tells me that the application is installed on the SDCard where i don't even have an SDCard attached.
and i'm not able to install the SystemUI.apk using Terminal emulator either (another solution found on the internet).
Is there someone that knows how to solve this problem without installing the rom again? i would like to avoid the problem to put back in all of the stuff i have on my smartphone... there's maybe a way to regenerate the contents inside system/app without the entire rom.
Putting that stuff back in manually won't work...

EDIT: Solved... Please delete this post and sorry for the troubles... The solution was easy: application list -> systemui -> delete updates and cache -> reboot.
Solved...
