I have sim-unlock code. Anyway to do it without a sim card installed? - AT&T HTC One (M8)

So AT&T provided me with the unlock code but it isn't very easy to come by a nano sim from another carrier. Can it be done without the sim card installed at all?

Not that I am aware.
Maybe go to another carrier's store, and ask to use one of their SIMs for a couple minutes? If you tell them why, I would think they wouldn't mind doing it.
Maybe offer to buy them a coffee or something!

I had the same problem with a HTC One M7 just off contract. ATT gave the unlock code but I didn't have the "other sim", went to a Verizon store, gave my story and bought a sim for $2.00, well worth it. Unlocked just fine . Also if your around a Walmart, I understand they sell prepaid sim packets for about $10 maybe one of those might work .

How to unlock with only att sim card...?

So I have a sim unlock code I paid for, but there doesn't seem anyway to input the code unless there's a non ATT simcard already in the phone???? Even my old Nokia e71x didn't have this limitation.... If anyone else has done this in the US, can you please share how you went about unlocking your atrix?
I havent SIM unlocked my Atrix, but couldnt you just pick up a T-Mobile pay as you go sim card and use that? They're only $7.

I agree....or just borrow someone's sim for a min...
I suppose I could buy the sim for another $7, but that's really inconvenient.

[Q] Is it possible to unlock my phone without another SIM card?

I have an HTC Inspire 4G that I'm trying to unlock (because a buyer wanted it unlocked) and I called AT&T and they gave me the code to get it unlocked, but I don't have a T-Mobile (or any other company) SIM card that I can use to enter the code.
Is there any way to use the code without using another SIM card?
Also, will the code expire?
No, to use the simlock code you need another SIM card (your buyer can lend you one, I think).
The code doesn't expires.

Well he lives in Canada, so I guess I could just send him the code along with the phone. He said he was having some trouble with his carrier, so I didn't want the code to expire before he could use it. Thanks for the info!
Does it need internet access to unlock it?

Does it have to be an active SIM card? Like if somebody here at XDA sent me an old T-Mobile SIM card (that didn't have service anymore), would that let me enter the code and unlock it?
I'm not sure, but I think yes. The SIM card of another carrier is for the phone asks for the unlock code, so I think that it works without service.
O2 recently sent me an unlock code, but I only have O2 sim cards, so I went over to the t-mobile site and just ordered a free sim from them

I tried that, but it wouldn't give me a free SIM card without signing up for a contract.
I ended up just buying some no-name SIM card on Amazon for $0.66 shipped.

Well I got my $.66 SIM card from Amazon and I put it in...and it doesn't request an unlock code. It even says up at the top (where it normally says AT&T) "Simple Mobile".
What do I do??

Quick Question

Hello,
So before today I was on the $50 unlimited plan on prepaid, which I filled up every month and I had never bought a phone from T-Mobile.
Today, I went in to buy the HTC One and I said I wanted the phone outright. They checked my account and said I am qualified. They also said that I can only do it with the $70 plan. Is this true? How do I change back to the $50 plan?
Also, they said 90-days for unlock. Is this true or can I do it before?
Crazysah
Also, they made it seem like I am now on postpaid instead of prepaid?
Can someone help shed light on this?
Sounds like the in-store people just f'd you over and changed you to postpaid without telling you. You'll probably have to get on the phone with customer service and fight with them for a while.
As for the unlock thing, there are tons of sites that will provide SIM unlock codes for a fee (usually like $10-$20), or T-Mobile will give people whose accounts are in good standing (or something) the code after 90 days. But I think you might be confused between SIM unlock and bootloader unlock. If you want to take your phone and use it on AT&T or in another country's network, you need SIM unlock. If you want to root and install custom ROMs, you need bootloader unlock. You can unlock your bootloader whenever you want from HTCdev for free.
Yeah, I'm talking about SIM unlock only. I need that as I live in India 4 months of the year. Is there anyway to change from postpaid back to prepaid? I don't want to be on postpaid at all. They said there was no other way I could buy the phone. I want the $50 plan (not the $70 one they put me on!)
He jagged you big time bro... But fear not!
If you haven't activated the sim on the plan yet then all you gotta do is call 611 T-Mobile from your PREPAID sim and tell them to active the other sim for you. Your number/plan will transfer over just fine.
If you already switched plans then you will need to buy another sim and do the above
Simple eh?

So, when I call them what do I tell them? He said that the SIM he put into the HTC One has a temporary number and either that SIM or the SIM in my current phone (HTC Explorer) will get a message saying it is activated. I haven't gotten any message now. So what can I do?
At the moment, my HTC Explorer with current SIM is still working and the new one is temporary but I think still working.

It seems that the card is already activated. You cant just deactivate a card and reactivate it. Once deactivated you cant reactivate it, EVER.
Youll need to deactivate it to go from post to prepaid. You will need a new micr-sim and either:
1) slip it in the phone and it will work
if this doesnt work then there is step 2
2) call 611 from prepaid phone and tell them you want to transfer your number to other new sim. They will ask you for sim #. DONE!
As for this other plan they activated.. ask the prepaid person to transfer you over to post-paid customer service and talk to them about deleting that account. They cant do it, but they can refund you the money and let it not charge you ever again (if already charged)
All these steps should work so long as you paid for the phone in full. If not, you are bound by the terms/conditions to keep the post-paid account or to pay the phone off in full to get pre-paid.
I called them up and they just switched my account from postpaid to prepaid, gave me an unlock code and also activated Wifi calling for me. It was as easy as asking them to do it. The customer care was super helpful. I haven't received any of the confirmation emails they said they would send but I think I'm all good.
Anything else I need to be worried about?

[Q] AT&T ASUS Padfone X Mini unlock

Hello everyone, gave this phone, but I do not use AT & T. Advise how and where can unlock the phone.
In order to get AT&T to unlock this phone you must maintain 6 months of GoPhone service on it. Then unlocking is handled via a request on their website.
Other methods are, the phone is in Russia.
Other methods of what? Unlocking?
Yes, another mode of unlock.
i just called them up and put in a unlock ticket as a non att mobility customer, and a few days later i had my unlock code.

This was my experience yesterday...
What I was told by the at&t customer support rep I called yesterday was that the phone is sold unlocked, but it comes with it's own GoPhone SIM card. According to her if you install that GoPhone card and activate it through the phone or even activate it online it will "SIM-LOCK" to your phone's IMEI number. That means if you activate the SIM card that comes with the phone then you lock your padfone to at&t for 6 months before you can request an unlock via the web form on their site. She then told me to instead simply take the SIM card to my local at&t store and swap it with a postpaid one. The representative then said that they could not have legally sold me a phone that was locked. Since none of this sounded like it was exactly correct or that either one knew for sure I went to the at&t store after I got off the phone. The woman I talked to there said she would take care of the SIM card, but looked confused when I was talking about it being unlocked and just nodded her head like she agreed. She tossed my GoPhone SIM and gave me a postpaid one. I had her activate it and pick out a number. That way if it turns out that it is not unlocked I'll have more ammo to get it refunded and cancelled. I will be stopping back by the store this afternoon to have someone verify everything because I really don't believe that it isn't sold already locked. An article in prepaidphonenews.com also suggested it was the GoPhone SIM, but it did not state anything besides to switch it out for a postpaid one at the store. I will post what I find out as soon as I can.
the rep lied to you. the phone comes locked from the factory. gophonephones work on any at&t mnvo (cricket, etc) and postpaid out of the box. i seemed to get lucky requesting my unlock by calling customer service because my padfone x minis imei wouldnt come up on the device unlock request website.
But the phones definently locked out of the box regardless of what sim is initially put in first.

What happens when you use the unlock code? You need to have a working non-AT&T SIM card installed in the device or it won't work.

The same situation, at&t have sent the code, but it does not fit, when typing writes the wrong code
Buck this Duck!
I got it taken care of by simply calling att and had the unlock code in about 10min. I gotta admit i worked for Bellsouth doing internal tech support for years so i knew what to say and what department to ask for. That experience with the company did have something to do with my results from a phone call. Whats funny and interesting is after that my request from the ATT website went through and i was sent a different code completely .. I thought it was device specific? So yes i can verify this as being fishy and a mystery to me as to if the IMEI was needed at all. Is it a ruse?
Perhaps its a bot that that handles the request from the site?
This is interesting so anyone please if you had a similar experience please post about it. So we can nail down this bootloader. I use mine as a stereo/map in my car and the phone as a emergency SIP device (plus i use the same towers so if my regular phone has any issues i have a quick backup). Plus i just like this phone once i got it bloat free it was actually serviceable!
Is there a functional rom link left please that would be awesome! Thanks a lot...

Sim unlock t-mobile LG V10

I recently bought this amazing phone on ebay, and I'm trying to sim unlock it, the phone is not blacklisted, or financed, but It cannot be unlocked since its not in T-mobile database(even when it is branded tmobile phone with all the tmobile bloated apps), since T-mobile or LG cannot unlock it I was looking for a Root-unlocking solution for this since I dont want to start the process of returning the phone at this time of the year and I already paid for my country customs fees to get the phone here.
Is there any way to sim unlock the LG h901 using root mods?
Thanks, I will appreciate your answers
As per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/general/unlocking-sim-tmobile-t3241032, it seems the only unofficial way to sim unlock may be to pay $44.90 here: https://www.unlockbase.com/phone-unlocking-service/tmobile-device-unlock-app-official-unlock/. Someone said it worked for them anyway..

I already tried that, and I got a refund from them, and two more unlocking service sellers (one seller on ebay and from releasemycode.com) the last one told me they all use the same server provider for the tmobile device app unlock, so it is useless to go to other unlock service. Thats why I open this thread to seenif there is any other way to sim unlock this phone
@yael20
Here's two options :
1. Ask your friend that have tmo service to call tmo and register your phone IMEI with their number and call tmo to unlocked it using device unlock app... since your phone not blacklisted or No financed.....[Worked for me].
2. Unlocked the BL... Install twrp... Root it and flash custom Rom ....install SuperSU and install regionlockaway.apk by @Chainfire same the creator of SuperSU and maybe it would unlock the SIM card. It worked for me in the past.... With Samsung ...htc phone....not sure LG phone.
*Swyped from T3DROID V10*
Let me know if what ted77usa worked pls

Looks like we will have to change our phones's CSC
To make it work, that raise a few questions:
1 - Can we change our CSC like it is done on Samsung Galaxy phones?
2 - can we flash the International, verizon, or ATT rom's CSC on our phone so we can get it unlocked or make it unlockable?
3- can I change my phone's imei to and old phone's imei that I have at home from the carrier where I want to use the phone with?
I'm not an expert and some of this questions may dont make any sense, but I'm just looking for some options to make this work...
successful non-TMobile SIM unlock
Bought mine SIM locked outright from T-Mobile with no activation, contract, or account. Paid $49.99 to Cellunlocker.net. it took 2 days. They were able to add my IMEI to the list so that the T-Mobile Unlock app saw mine as eligible for unlock. I selected permanent unlock & it worked without hiccup. I use mine on cricket now w/ no problems. I do not work for them or care to promote- just letting you know what I did that worked.

Thanks, I'm going to try that, but guys from unlockbase.com told me they all use the same server for unlocks, is that true?
Not sure, but I paid last Saturday and was notified that they were done Monday. No code or anything, no refund or apologies. I used the tmo unlock & it worked. That's all I know.
I'm in the same situation, bought it in eBay
I've tried:
Cellunlocker.net
Unlockriver
Unlockpanda
Releasemycode
... Now waiting response from onlineunlocks.com
But if they all use the same server as you said, so it's going to fall. =/
Buying from t-mobile outright is different story i guess. But my case the eBay seller said it was bought in bulk from LG, and not from t-mobile, maybe that's why cannot be unlocked. Sadly, I'm going to return it tomorrow.
I'm wondering what people's IMEI will show here: http://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx
I imagine that the phone has to show as valid there to be unlockable by these services?
My seller said kind of same thing too, he said he "used to work fot T-mobile" and got it as a gift directly from LG , so when I check the Imei in tmobile database it doesnt show as blacklisted or financed, but it is like it doesnt exist in their database. The seller says it has to be activated and used for at least 30 days in T-mobile's network to get registered in their database.
I'm not as lucky as you, my seller is open for a return and refund me, BUT I paid 18% of the phone selling price (500+) in customs ( since I bought it from outside of United States) and I cant get a refund on that, I choose to wait for now....
Nevermind, dumb question haha. Sorry

I also tried cellunlocker and swiftunlocks and was refunded. So what I did since the seller on swappa wouldn't refund was I called tmobiel and bought a north american roaming package which is $50 usd per month and I'm at least able to use the phone. Basically we need to have it in use for 40 days and they will unlock it for us.

Phone came with a tmo sim card. If yours was bnib it also should have. You should check the box. I'm actually considering staying with tmo since their prices for the roaming plan is better than what bell can offer in a regular plan and they have better features. Ie free visual voicemail.
But if you don't have a sim in the box you should call tmo and order one. I think that this is the only route for some of us to take.

I am in a similar boat - I bought the phone from Ebay and it was T Mobile (brand new sealed). No service was able to unlock it for me so I called T Mobile and opened an Pre-Paid account. I put $10 on and used this while in the States to show it registered on T Mobile system.
I called to ask if it was registered on their network and they said yes. When I contacted T Mobile today, they said they can unlock it today if I put alteast $100 in refills. So once I did that, and called back - they then told me they still could not unlock it as my IMEI number was not registered in their system and my phone was not showing as a T Mobile phone!
I escalated the issue to the Support team and hopefully hear a response in the next two days. I told them that I did all they asked me to do including calling several times to verify the phone was with T Mobile so they either unlock my phone or refund me the $100 I paid.
