[Q] Sprint Zone - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hello, I've updated to Lolipop and have been loving it. oc5
I decided to root and install TWRP custom recovery.
I went to use Sprint Zone to check my bill and it's gone!
Does sprint zone disappear when you root? Does it disappear when you use a custom recovery such as TWRP?
Did I install something that thought I wanted to get rid of 'bloatware?'
I did install triangle away and busybox pro. I don't think these apps removed it without my knowledge?
Also noticed that all sprint apps and zone are gone from the 'all apps' list.
If sprint zone uninstalls when we root or get a custom recovery, is there any way to get it back?
If not, does anyone have a sm-n900p lollipop version of sprint zone as an installable apk? oc5
Is there any point if it will just uninstall itself again?
Also, is there any reason I don't want to use Sprint Zone while using TWRP and root?
Thank you for your time!

I lost it from the update to lollipop before I ever rooted.
I called Sprint to see what they said.
After a long phone call with lots of trial and error, they had me install this app and run option 1.
It reset all the home screen settings/widgets I had set.
Some other settings were back to default as well. (I don't remember exactly what)
But, I now have Sprint Zone and a couple other bloat apps I was missing that I didn't care were missing.
I was wondering if this app would fix the missing wifi calling and other missing things?
My phone was not yet rooted when I used this app.
My phone went through hands free activation twice and rebooted a couple times.
I'm not sure how it will work on rooted phone, or if it will break root or anything else.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
Good luck!

thank you

I investigated that option, but I might as well do a hard reset. If anyone has the oc5 installable apk or knows about this issue with it disappearing after root and twrp, i'd greatly appreciate it. I had it just fine in oc5 lollipop but disappeared afterwards.

This was a lot less than a hard reset.
All I noticed was home screen settings back to original when I ran opt1.
All my account settings and apps and whatnot were all still there.
Good luck!

Yes!!! I made a twrp backup and proceeded to take your advice. Okay, Hat in my hand, IT WORKED like a charm! thank you! I didn't lose root either! now sprint zone is back plus all the bloatware!! no need to sideload. I'm glad when I'm wrong!

Did you happen to try opt2?
I was wondering what that would do? :lost: lol

Apparently having Sprint Zone is the only way to update prl and profile now. Bummer.

yeah, I just discovered that. the usual option in settings was gone, and that confused me... someone else. mentioned this, and I reinstalled it from the following link, it updated once, works fine.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-6/479368-sprint-zone-apk-download.html

Weird? I have the ability to update prl and profile in their normal place. (system update)
Maybe that is what 'opt2' will do?
Anyone brave enough to try it? lol
I use Sprint Zone only to pay my bill.

option 2

No way, I'm so happy with what happened with option 1 don't dare push the envelope!
I am curious though what will happen with option 2.
Will the Sprint police come knocking on your door?
Will it cause a fire?
I guess we'll never know!

Well opt.2 does nothing that i can see didnt even put sprint zone on my phone ?

"Unsupported Device" Google Wallet works JUST FINE!

Yeah, I even ran the RUU that Football posted, without wiping my Google Wallet data first. Why? Because I did it before the thread was posted.
I followed the directions that were posted here, and my Google Wallet worked fine. Then I rooted, and made this video!
I flashed viperboys de odexed and it messed up my wallet .
Than realized I backed it up via titanium restored data and it was perfect well says not supported device but 10$ is back

I don't think anyone made the claim that unsupported error made your wallet not work. The error everyone is talking about is the "secure element has stopped working" which is a complete different one and it DOES mean that you will NOT be able to use the secure NFC capabilities ever.
The Unsupported Device error only comes up when you have root and has no effect on functionality.
EDIT: While this is awesome and shows people that the unsupported error is nothing, anyone that wants to keep wallet functionality and flashes ROMs should do the following before flashing anything:
Launch Google Wallet
Hit menu button> Settings> Reset Google Wallet

Here (and my Reply). There are SEVERAL more, and I could spend all day finding posts like I qouted and linked to above. THAT'S WHY I made the video. Not because of the whole (NOT RESETTING GOOGLE WALLET) Thing, and then it not wanting to work. I just stated that I ran the RUU without resetting google wallet, followed directions, and got it to work just fine. Have I made my point?
All it probably means is that google will not secure problems with unsupported devices. So basically if your rooted and you use google wallet they want none of the liability. You SOL if you loose your phone.
no se error
So I acadently forgot to reset my wallet before wiping my system and data like 5 time and I booted everytime and I forgot to reset it before flashing vipers Rom and I have yet to receive that error. So is everyone that says it get broken have proof on the EVO or are they going on the proff from the nexus?

hi all, just to lay everything out i'm software 1.13.651 lazypanda s-off, android 4.0.3 with sense 4.0, i rooted the phone in store during activation, didn't enter any info into the phone only turned it on, activated it then started rooting, i've been reading for days my eyes are going cross, i've been trying to set up google wallet and it wont let me, i get the "not supported has not been certified in your country/device/carrier" pop up then i get told to update the app, i update it and then i get the "not supported for your device or network" i hit ok and it closes, it will not let me get into the menu or anything, is there a specfic update i need, should i have cleared wallet before i rooted even though it was a new and clean phone with no data or do i need to flash something to get this to work or is it borked and im sol?? thank you in advance for any help :highfive:

Someone has to supply an edited apk from the root of the file system you then over write the file and change the permissions and reboot, of course some one could always provide the full apk and you can uninstall the market version and install the modified. A CMX nightly is supposed to be coming out with a fix soon

well thats some good news, one stop shop for me then i guess, thank you all who have helped, i guess i'm just gonna have to watch for cmx updates now
The problem is they mentioned the fix like a week ago lol i guess I gotta be more patient.
Edit: you could always flash back to sense enable wallet, back up data for wallet account, reset wallet ( from inside the app, its the only way) and then flash back and just restore app data. I would have done it by now if I wasn't so lazy

hahaha, between lazyness and not knowing, i mean even with all the vids and discussions and staying up way late reading everything i can i still needed help just rooting my phone i'm lucky one of the guys at the store i go to was doing his at the same time and helped me with mine
Its takes patience which is why I'm surprised I didn't run into any problems. Then again I have a good grasp on most of the theory. I can very easily trouble shoot most problems with out having to read up in anything, the procedures are what vary but I can still point people in the right direction about 85% of the time
Just thought something and I need to confirm
In the Evo 4g lte themes and apps subforum here, there is a thread about wallet. There is a link there for one from modaco website. DL it, move it to system/app and set permissions to rw-r-r and reboot. Doesn't matter what ROM or version you're using. I used it on sense 1.13 and now on AOKP.
via xda premium on my AOKP'd Evo LTE
Haha that's the one I was talking about, I just didn't know how recent it is and right now I'm too lazy to hop on over and check, also nope I knew my idea wouldn't work and just had to see it through lol

What do you mean by "reset" google wallet?

I see a lot of people saying you need to reset google wallet before flashing a new rom, but google wallet has never been able to be opened on my phone because it says device unsupported, so what does it mean by reset google wallet that I'm seeing people say in all of these threads? How do I reset it exactly if I can't open it?
I have not rooted or really tampered with the phone yet so I'm not sure if this is something that is effecting all EVO owners or what.. I just don't want to lose the functionality when it does become available

Personally, if I were you. I'd open the app up anyways, and reset it it from within its settings regardless of if you are actively using it. It won't hurt, its just an extra step that takes a minute.
You are taking a risk of destroying the secure NFC element - even though you don't use it now, you may want to later - or the person who ultimatly ends up with this phone when you are done with it may want to use it.

If you were never able to open the application, there is nothing to clear because nothing ever got modified. Clearing the settings resets it back to stock, and since yours is already in that state the point is moot.

I cannot reset it because I get the Error about no supported country. Can I temp root to change the prop file so I can reset Google wallet? then root?
Just Rooting does not erase anything. You just don't want to do anything that requires wiping the phone, whether that be through recovery, settings menu, or htcdev unlock.
The factory reset of the entire phone is what causes the problems.

If you only go for root access it does not wipe your phone or change anything other than gaining root access. If you do the S-Off method you have more of a chance to mess something up but it still doesn't wipe your phone. Only the htc-dev unlock wipes the phone. You will need root to do the s-unlock tool anyways.

security notification post 4.3 update

I keep getting a notification that tells me about unauthorized access to part of my phone and I need to update to the latest security. I try to update and it tells me I don't need to update because I have already installed the latest security. I keep getting the notification over and over... anyone else having this issue?
Yep, been getting it all day. Seems to be coming from KNOX app that cannot be uninstalled. I have notifications turned off, too. Doesn't matter that I did the "update" or hit cancel. Google+ posters are saying its' a known bug.

ok, I thought it may have been a bad install or something
Yeah i got rid of it with wanam xposed. You need to have preserved root and install xposed framework, which works perfectly so far by the way.
Edit: in security hacks section, disable know notifications.

This. I lost my root a couple updates ago and I'm still getting the security notification all the time. It's annoying and I don't want to install whatever software it's pushing on me because I don't know what it is and don't think I need it.
From what I have been reading, if you try to install what it's pushing, it will tell you that it's already up to date. If posts I have seen can be believed, Samsung knows there is a problem and is supposedly working on a fix. Seems to be tied to connecting to different WiFi networks. I don't have the problem, but my wife does, strangely enough.

I have noticed I get it when I leave WiFi range and switch to data and back. Called Samsung. They are pushing out a fix. We will hopefully see it this weekend (so they say.)

Fixes and Question
I second the Wanam disable notifications method. However, I am a bit concerned that KNOX is actually preventing some system actions. For instance, Greenify was not able to hibernate a couple of apps on boot. Aside from the Wanam method there are several other options:
Play Store Option: Here
Terminal Emulator Option: Here
Titanium Back-up Option: From Driod Views
Open TB when it is installed and freeze the following apps:
com.sec.enterprise.knox.attestation
com.sec.knox.eventsmanager
KLMS Agent
KNOX
Knox Notification Manager
KNOX Store
My question is, what are the disadvantages to the methods that actually disable KNOX and not just notifications? Am I putting data at risk, and will I lose any other functionality?
Cheers!

As far as I know, this only happens if you still have partial root files or root-using apps or their data left on your phone after flashing a data-preserving wipe file with Odin.
To clarify, if you had ME7, for example, and had root, BusyBox/Terminal Emulator, and the like, and used a Odin image modded to not wipe data, then youd be left without root, but with apps still trying to get root. SuperSU would still have these apps in its list, and theyd query it for root access, and could not get it. The notification says its trying to access system, because the root file would be in system.
Also, if you had Triangle Away and had it set to periodically try and reset the flash counter to say Official, it would keep trying to access system, but SELinux wouldnt let it.
The only fix Ive found is to do a factory reset.

Well, if you dont mind doing another wipe, try the emergency recovery ODIN file, found here
If you never had root before on that device, maybe you had some app that can utilize root, or maybe you have an app using device admin rights? Lookout Antivirus requires admin or root access for some features, do you have any apps like that?

I'm not going to wipe it again. Samsung said this is a known bug and they are pushing through a fix, so I'll try to be patient. The only app I have is Avast Antivirus. This seems to be related to Knox that Samsung included in the update. So that is on here too and cannot be disabled.

Avast is not related to Knox at all. No apps are related to Knox unless they have the small yellow lock icon on the bottom right corner. However, if Avast has that lock icon, it will only work in Knox mode, and will only scan files created while in Knox mode.
I cant make you do anything, but I strongly recommend that you wipe the phone again, especially since the only app you have is Avast so far. I only factory resetted, and while that did stop the notifications for me, it didnt fix the bug itself. Now my phone shows a counter of 2 in the bootloader, even though I never flashed any unofficial ROMs.
Just because Samsung says its a bug and will send out a fix doesnt mean you can rest easy. Thats like having a gas leak, and the company tells you dont worry, we will send you a patch to plug the hole. Yeah, youll have it plugged eventually, but for now your house is gonna fill with gas, and then its gonna explode. Im just looking out for you in the future. I doubt you would want to lose your warranty so soon.

I appreciate your concern. For some reason, I stopped getting the notifications, for now. I've done some further research. Avast has no lock icon. I went into download mode and determined that I have not lost my warranty. I don't want to factory reset because I don't believe it will resolve the issue as it is a bug within Knox, and because it takes me way too much time to customize my phone. I have approximately 100 apps, Avast just happens to be the only one under administrator. When I factory reset it after the ota, I did it multiple times anyway. From what I've been reading, this is happening on both rooted and stock devices.

Thank God your bootloader still shows zero! That's one of the hardest things to crack that Ive ever seen in a phone. I mean, its not so hard to not trip it, but once tripped, youre pretty much SOL.

[Q] broken google play market

I need help, I've been looking through forums and forums, skimming to no resolve. I didn't want to ask for help but alas i am here, on my knees, please, anybody, help me
alright enough with the dramatics
about a month ago i had the bright idea to root my phone, at the time i was on me7. done with very little problems, all of which were solved.
I download a few root apps, including freedom (allowing you to make iap for free) and an app that allows your phone to download apps from another country, like the app market enabler but that wasn't the one i was using .
ota mi1 comes out and naturally through my excitement i update with out reading forums about what may happen to my phone, nor do i reset the market info back to Verizon usa.
now that im on mi1 my root is broken but the phone works properly minus 2 situations i have no access to google play market, every attempted to access the market is thwarted with a warning "unfortunately, Google play store has stopped" and all i can do is press OK. the other is that i have the custom boot screen when i turn on my phone.
i deal with this small inconvenience for a few weeks, slowly growing more irritated and my own stupidity.
Verizon then releases OTA MJ7 and up naturally update. no difference. I was hoping at least the market would work again
so i take matters in to my own hands (again) and try to hard reset my phone. market still no works, custom still exists
i try a few other things but no changes. finally i turn to odin and try to flash a stock restore. but the odin fails the second i press start.

I throw my hands in the air and run away screaming. im frustrated and need help, is there anything i can do to get the market to work and the phone back to stock

[Q] what to do????

Ok help!! I finally broke down and bought an unlocked zoom on the net. It is a great phone, we love it. I use ultrame for a carrier, now it comes down to this> The phone originally is ATT, I read all over here and am confused, if I root it is there a way to remove the ATT software?? will it really mess with the GPS?? will I loose other functions on the phone??? I am confused and yes I talk to myself at times. But I am getting fifty responses all different as to what to do, or just leave the phone alone? It works great, camera is beyond belief. any opinions?????????thanks red423

If you root with kingoroot nothing will happen to your gps.. Mine works just fine. After root, use titanium backup to delete the att bloat and you will have no worries.

I understand your worries but as the above member said, you have nothing to worry about. I have the International unlocked version (Not AT&T's) and I rooted it with 'Kingo Root' 2 weeks ago and everything is fine.
So, by acquiring root, you can use Titanium Backup to disable/freeze or delete AT&T apks. Now I suggest you only freeze them first, reboot your phone, use it a bit, make sure there are no errors happening since some APKs are needed by the system for your phone to function or else it will crash and not boot-up properly. So freeze first, test your phone, if all is good, delete them. I personally only delete apks that I am sure I don't need or those that I can re-download from the Play Store if need be. The rest, I just freeze them and forget about them. They can't act on their own if they're frozen =).
Btw, you can still disable/freeze apps without root by going to System settings - More - Application manager, and swipe to "All" category, and find the ones you don't want, click on them, and then click on "Turn Off". (I still prefer Titanium Backup since it shows me all apks and freezes all of them)
got the root
Ok I got the root, so the titanium says no freeze without donating, there are a few ATT apps that show up, on the zoom which ones have you guys just removed forever???? or is there another program like titanium to remove att bloat ware???? AND A BIG THANK YOU FOR REPLYING!!!!!!!!! I am all rooted now and want to make sure if i erase apk's they are the correct ones I cant freeze. red423

Great! glad it worked out. I had an S4 prior to this and this Zoom is quicker and smoother I just miss the bigger screen + resolution and thinner body.
There's no kitkat update yet but apparently they announced it and should be out in the coming months hopefully!
