Any way to get a universal remote to control and add functionality to my MXQ S85? - Android Stick & Console AMLogic based Computers

I recently bought an MXQ S85 android box, it's pretty nifty and comes with an IR remote, it works out of the box, but many apps aren't optimized for use with a remote and I want to extract as much value from it as possible, I'd like to be able to configure the various buttons on the remote or in a better case use a universal remote with more buttons and add much needed functionality.
The box itself has a built-in IR receiver and it only responds to the provided remote, I have no smart remotes to figure out the "TV Code" the remote is using. I do have a MacBook Pro running Windows and an abandoned OSX partition which responds to the IR commands somewhat(if asleep, the remote wakes the computer up, although no other actions are taken)
All the info I've found regarding IR and android relates to IR blasters on phones working as remotes, not the opposite.

Is your box rooted at all?
You will need root to make the mods I have in mind but could you check something first?
Using a file explorer, a good one is ES explorer, check if you have the following file
/etc/remote.conf
If you do can you either attach a copy or copy the contents here.

Yep, the box comes pre-rooted, There is a file called remote.conf, should I paste its contents here?

Yes please do.

Why not just go to Google play and find a app named Eshare, which is like wireless U-Key,wireless share folder, easy to share your files to other devices. Help you to get rid of cable, transfer and manage your files through wireless network. You can share your memory card or one folder.

I might be too thick headed but I fail to see how this would be helpful.
What I'm looking for is a way to use whatever remote I have handy to control my android box.

What about M1 air mouse? I thought it's a nice choice for functionality control?
But i just heard that M1 air mouse supports windows 8.1 or Android KitKat operating system. You need to make sure which one it exactly equipped with.

The air mouse works perfectly. But the remote control would go unused. This is what I'm trying to avoid. I bought this box in big part for the dongleless remote control.

Would it be possible to use a device like those Logitech Harmony remotes for this purpose?

I guess although I think this would be defeating the purpose. Being as how those remotes are expensive. You're better off using an air mouse for a lot less.
But really the Apple TV does it great, it works out of the box with its own remote, but you can program as many remotes as you like.

I had similar issues right out of the box. Went through several different remotes but settled with this one. UVIA(TM) 2.4G Wireless Gaming Air Fly Mouse Touchpad Keyboard Remote Control for M8 MXIII MXQ MX Andriod Tv Box Google Smart Dongle WIN PC (Black)

Does that remote have the cursor automatically turn on every time you use the remote? I've used plenty of air mouses, but they all do that same thing and you have to toggle off the mouse cursor every time you pick it up.
I'm also looking for a way to use my universal remote with my android box, an MXV to be specific. Any suggestions? I know this thread is old but anyways...

Most times the cursor will appear but often it takes a click to make it appear. Still for the price.... worth the frustrations.

Harmony not likely, however....
I am a custom A/V consultant in my area and have been for 30+ years.
I recently installed a MXQ OTT TV Box for a client whom had a older Harmony remote. The harmony IS capable of learning the IR codes, but has a problem.
The codes used by MXQ are very short. Harmony remotes by default repeat a given code 3x (standard procedure with programmable remotes). Virtually all devices see this as 1 button press. Unfortunately, the MXQ see's 2 if not 3 individual presses. The end result being that 'Direction Right' will jump 3 times to the right, rather than just once. This seems like an easy thing to fix, but Logitech remotes do not give you the option of adjusting number of repeats for a given device.
I am presently testing a pro level URC remote which offers that specific type of control with regard to repeats. Should know within a couple days if it is a solid solution.
URC is a slightly more expensive option than harmony, but in my honest opinion is a far better product as well. Substantially more configurable for complex macros, and tough durable remotes.
There is also typically a programming charge from a professional installer, which may vary depending on the complexity of your system.
I'll post my results, once confirmed.

I recently bought the Leelbox Q1 Kodi 16.0 Pre installed Miracast RK3229 Quad-core Cortex A7 1.5GHz Android TV Box and it worked fined when I tested it. But a few days latter the remote stopped working (it no longer controls the box or anything else for that matter), but I'm sure the batteries are good because there is a blinking red on the top right corner, inside the tv control area, specifically the on/off transparent key. I believe it's a setting issue, because I did pack it with batteries and I'm afraid some keys were pressed and changed the settings. Does anybody know how I can get the remote back to factory settings? I do thing this should resolve the issue. Thanks!

I also have a MXQ box, and I use the third party remote for android tv and amazon fire tv, and I find the mouse can be use in this app called CetusPlay, you can find it on google play store
and there is another on called wukong tv remote, but know it seems not working in the mouse.

remote codes
I have a H96 pro android TV box plus a Samsung Smart TV.
Samsung have a fantastic remote which controls many devices that are connected to the TV.
It recognises and detects and controls PS3, WDTV media box, DVD player and many, many, other devices automatically.
I have searched the net for the remote codes for the H96 to determine what consumer product might be nearest fit to be able to control the H96 as well.
I note from other sources the code seems to be based on NEC code, but I need to know which product and model to then add to Samsung input menu.
I tried Humax PVr and other, just guess without luck.
Can anyone assist.
Samsung have thousands of OEM codes embedded, however need to know which OEM product applies to H96.

I know this is an old thread but I have a question. Lets say if I copy the codes of this remote that are pasted on the 1st page and save them as remote.conf and put it in the TX3Mini box, would this remote work with TX3Mini box?
I actually have the answer too. I already did that it wont work at all. The box don't respond to remote at all. When I hadn't changed the file the older remote.conf file that was already in the box was working with the remote but only some buttons and some buttons were not owkring as they were supposed to. So, I thought of changing the file.
I can change the file back to the original factory one. So, in order to make the remote work fine should I make changed to the factory file with this remote codes? Any idea?

Setup Logitech Harmony remote on amlogic M8(S) tv box

Hi all,
It took me a lot of time to find out how to setup my Logitech Harmony remote with my M8S amlogic S812 TV Box. My goal was to link more keys of the Harmony to keys in Kodi. Finally I found the solution on the net and want to share it for others who are struggling with this as well.
The solution should also work for M8 amlogic S802 boxes and perhaps with other boxes that have an build-in IR receiver that uses the NEC protocol.
You need access to the /system partition on the box. Use a root filemanager or setup a ssh server (quicksshd works for me.)
All steps are also explained in the attached file.
1. In Logitech MyHarmony software add the Pivos XIOS DS Media Player. This remote uses the right protocol and Logitech adds some extra keys additional to the fysical keys on this remote. You can link these keys to keys on your Harmony.
2. The All-off button on the Harmony uses the standard power-to-sleep function that doesn't work anymore with these new settings. You have to add the CodecInfo-action, which is linked to the POWER_SLEEP action, to the startup and shutdown actions of every activity of the Harmony that uses your android box.
3. The box uses a file to link the ir codes to android key codes: /system/etc/remote.conf. Replace /system/etc/remote.conf with the contents of the attached file (with thanks to Johan van Zoomeren who created it).
4. Run remotecfg /system/etc/remote.conf to activate the new settings.
Hope it works for you.
Joost.
Just come across this and just thought I would say thanks for the post... Works a treat with my harmony touch ?
hello. I want to start of by thanking you for the great post. i have a couple of questions tho and was hoping you can help me. i have the OTT BOX M8S+ which i am assuming is a similar box to yours:
1. what is the "codec info" that i need to add in order for the power button to work on the harmony
2. i want to use the colored buttons since i have an stb emulator. but everytime i press the green button my box jumps to the web browser.
3. also when i program the logitech, OTT box is in the database and seems to be working fine (copying the same remote keys)
appreciate your reply and feedback and hope to hear from you soon

Is there an androidtv app for remap channel numbers? (10000 to 10)

Hey,
I am now integrating the channels from my tv input and with channels from cumulus tv / tvirl, basically the channels start with the number 10000 and above.
Is there a way to remap numbers? Using the keypad
For example:
I will press 12 and it will transfer to Channel 10012
13 - 100013, and beyond...
I only know the next apps:
cmak
buttons remapper
button mapper
But there is no such possibility
I would be happy if someone would help me,
Thank you very much!

Hello
I bought a couple of these boxes and for the price they cost they work very well.
I think we need to improve the software that manages the TV tuner a bit and I'm trying to find an APK that can do it better than the software installed.
I used Enigma 2 (Linux) for a long time and it had a fantastic interface.
I skip a few pages on internet sites I discovered that an owner has installed Libreelec but it is not a simple procedure and the internal TV tuner does not work; as a solution he connected a USB Dongle TV behind.
Do you have any advice for me ?
I don't recommend this device at all!
Ignorant and bullying support team which delete everything don't like and it's against their devices in the forum and lot of bugs:
1) GTPlayer crash all the time. You have to disable it
2) Remote controls is horrible, you need to target the device, otherwise doesn't work
3) You need to blind search all the time for channels otherwise will find only few of them.
4) you cannot search for individual channels, there is no option. You have to search for all and you will always lose custom channels list
5) you either can export and import a channel list because you will lose EPG
6) EPG works only when it want
7) When EPG works, you have to switch to the channel you want to see EPG in order to have it loaded. You cannot stay on a music channel, for example, and explore EPG of other channels.
8) EPG language is wrong if channel have multilanguage EPG. Device reads the first language only.
9) If you use PVR recorder, the program will record with the first audio track (wrong language if channel have multiple tracks) and without subtitles, ignoring your preferences.
You better get a MECOOL K2 or K3 than buying this junk, honestly.

Have you installed firmware 6.2 on a device that comes with firmware version 6.3 without problems? I have a problem that the device will not start.
I think I can only solve it with the installation via firmware file in .img format but I have GTC with serial GC and I only get the .img file for the previous version. (6.2). You think I won't have problems. I saw that you in the mega link wrote tested in serial GC!

demlasjr, hope you do not go back to GT media-Freesat asking for help.
@cpr43 Haha, sure....it's useless however. I'm not a masochist to keep begging ignorant people, if i'm not wrong you are one of them. All I wanted was help and had enough patience. I wait months for a bug fix and nobody even bother to fix them. I paid for a working device. Where is the support? I kept reporting bugs and asking for fixes and the day I asked why are we ignored I got banned.
Update since September: still nothing works, I have 2 weeks without EPG, I don't want to reset device because I'll lose channels list modifications and if I will export and import it, EPG will not work.
Here are also some complains about it (over a year old!!! Nobody gives a $#&@ about it:

The only one fixed it's GTPlayer, because the team behind that app fixed it.
BTW...testing Mecool K7, way more powerful and lot of support and custom firmware guys!

Do you think this software can work ?
ProgTV Android
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.progdvb.progtva
I did not understand correctly but it seems to me that it is derived from the ProgDVB software that I have often used on the PC with Windows 10 and the Technisat 2 card + DVB-T USB stick.
If so, it would work much better than the DVB software installed on the decoder.

in my case, one of my GTCs root it. I did it because I like to play with the devices I buy. Supposedly an update arrived that left the device like a damn paperweight. and they blame me. !!
look nothing else !!! talking about rome! Now I can tell you how stupid you are without banning my account! Haha !
tell me cpr, why don't you dedicate yourself to dolls? You are so crying that you can't stand someone telling you that what you said is wrong! you think you are better than everyone and you don't know or have any idea of the things that are asked of you. you just ignore them. And if the user demands attention, you go out and say they are busy with other things ... scratching their balls, that's what they do ...
I hope someday to find you and give you the kick you deserve.

I hope too. Anytime body, there is nothing more low that a gossip man. Make sure to bring 2 buckets. One to kick and another to be kicked. To go beyond a personnal about knowledge is inmature. Talking behind back is a low life and you should be spell or banned from all forum. Cobarde!

Need to get zero config usb controller to work with android 6

I bought a nexbox a1 android tv box with an s912 soc and running android 6. I'm using it to run my virtual pinball machine arcade that I built. I have real arcade buttons hooked up to a Zero delay usb controller. I've already bought two other android boxes that didn't work because I wasn't able to get the tv screen to rotate to portrait mode because they took the option to activate screen rotation out of Android 7+ because this firmware is for android tv and most people would be using them on tv in the landscape orientation, and probably to streamline the amount of code needed they took the option in the build.prop right out. Now my issue is this version of Android, for whatever reason, doesn't recognise the usb controller, the one of the other boxes registered the directional keys and I needed to root that box to be able to setup touch emulation, but at least that one recognised the buttons. This android 6 box doesn't. I need to know if there is a driver or app I need to get the buttons working

DirectShow: time stamping

Hi all!
Could you explain what the difference between stream time and media time in DirectShow ?
(Win10, C++)
MSDN docs says that IMediaSample::SetTime method is used to stream times when this sample should begin and finish. In other words – if I want to play my sample between times 100 and 150, I should call SetTime(100, 150). Ok.
Also MSDN docs says that IMediaSample::SetMediaTime method is used to sets the media times for this sample.
Could you explain graph behavior if my sample (audio PCM) passed to renderer filter (speakers) ? :
Question1: what is the reason to SetMediaTime() if I call SetTime() ?
Question2: what happened If I call SetTime(100, 150), but real duration of my sample, for example = 200: it will be played in time period from 100 to 150, or from 100 to 300 ?
Question3: what happened if Settime interval partially from stream time. For example, SetTime(100, 150), but current stream time = 120: will the part 100..120 be removed, and part 120..150 be played ? Or there will be another behavior ?
