Port kernel [need kernel developpers] - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, we face a real issue on HTC one Mini 2 community.. it seems that android 5.0 has been cancelled for us ..
I come to you to ask for a kernel developpers to make a port of the kernel from HTC desire 816 who's close to the HTC one Mini 2 .
I will open a thread for that and will ask for donation if necessary .
I hope u hear my message.
Thank you

Your main issue will be that few have that device. Also porting a kernel is not that easy. It will take drivers for that device. You may never get anything other then an aosp based port but again without kernel source that may not be an option due to the huge changes in the whole OS.

That's great @AKA_Noodle. I used to own the Galaxy i9003 and have experience in testing ROMs, customizing, boat ware removal etc. for 10 months. I have just bought a Desire V yesterday and this is my first HTC. I am getting to know the difference.
I have followed your post and am going to ROOT the phone in a couple of days. I am giving my stock 7 days for the just in case hardware issues with my handset. Post that I will unlock the bootloader and free my device. I am ready for testing and development.
And by the way,
Congratulations to all. We finally have a dedicated thread for our phone.
Thanks @AKA_Noodle, i use the European Rom, great
Guys,
I don't own this device, but I'm interested in developing for it.
I believe I could try to port a ROM or two from the desire X to this device, if anyone would test it.
The only thing I need to know is: do you guys have android 4.0.4 or 4.0.3?

Thanks. I hope that little difference doesn't affect the ROM.
I don't have time in this week, but I'll try to get you guys a ROM next week.

I'm interested with HTC Desire V Rom Development. And I will first make CM10, then MIUI, etc. I'm following the tutorials at XDA.
Finally i have device tree ready for HTC DESIRE V The next task is to download sources for CM9 ( takes a hell lot of time :/ ) and start working on it, hopefully with community's help, it will be completed
i will be uploading the device tree soon, so anyone can help me building it..
I'm waiting for that CM9, because all other ROMs I tried are disappointing. I posted here earlier a version for Baidu ROM but turns out that was also buggish.
So, please someone make a Cyanogenmod for this phone.
yeah... please develop a CM9/10 version for this dual sim phone ///
Until today, i still can't find an easy way to root my device. LOL!

I did some snooping - it turns out that it's buggish because we are using the nightly builds version of the Baidu . The official version is V4:

I know, but my version was from that stable one, which is based on version 27. Still it had some "things" because for Baidu stable not means final, it's a project in developement. I guess, if no one develop a CM for our device we'll have to wait for some final Baidu.
One other thing is that they develop Baidu to integrate with their service (let's not forget that Baidu is Google for China), and it will be more suitable to users from China .
Too bad that HTC couldn't release a ROM without bugs. Baidu, even in beta, didn't restart my phone randomly like HTC rom did (stock version too), and I have a friend with Wildfire stock, unrooted, untouched which do the same. Maybe it is something with HTC rom platform, I don't know.
I don't think it is hardware, because if it was, Baidu would restart too.
For developement
I just finished to try every single open source of android to make a new build for this phone and my conclusion is not good.
HTC announced that this phone will not get JellyBean - understandable 1 single core processor, 512 MB Ram, not enough.
That will be a huge obstacle in order to get Paranoid, PAC or Slimbean to this phone - they mentain those sources now only for jellybean. Or for jellybean, we need a new kernel to support that. And even so, we can not know if it will work - poor phone specs.
Cyanogenmod doesn't support DualSim, and I bought this phone for that function only.
MIUI doesn't support DualSim either - I know there are a lot of dualsim phones with MIUI, but these are ported not compiled from source - and MIUI source isn't public (what they have on github is a patch tool, wich doesn't work very well, especially with HTC phones which are more difficult).
LewaOS has a source open on github, but is only for Gingerbread - if they upgrade this it will be our best alternative, because LewaOS is a very stable, fast and reliable ROM, and works well even in low specs phones. Baidu ROM seems to be at the begining some port of LewaOS (I still found some mediatek references in baidu, and mediatek is the main processor for Lewa).
So, we're stuck with Sense...

[Q] CM10.1 Support present ?

HI guys I am user and developer from Sony2011 forums.
I was going to buy a Desire X today but then decided to check for it support on xda.
As i love to use PA or PAC-man. I wanted to ask does this device has CM10.1 support ?
I was unable to locate the sources at Cyanogen's github.
If not whats the last Cyanogen version that this phone got ?
Also is the kernel source by HTC released for this device ?
I hope some one answers my questions soon.
I am getting this phone at quite cheap price. So I am tempted to buy it.
quick view on the forum would tell you, that cm isnt officialy there sofar (need s-off for that, could take some time, or not, dunno), sources for phone are released at htcdev.com

1) A great developer we have here, TheAndroidManual, was able to boot PA in his Desire X so I guess soon we will have it available (his gonna upload a video tomorrow).
2) Another great developer, atis112, released 2 alpha builds of CM9 but he stopped his work because some countries already have 4.1.1 available and he's waiting for HTC to release the kernel source so he can work in CM10.
3) Yes, for ICS there's kernel source available in here: http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
Meanwhile, in my opinion, this is a great device, well built and with a amazing display so I'd recommend you to buy it!
Have a great day
So this device isn't officially supported by CM.
Is the soff available ??
I will search more on it as I have never owned a HTC before so don't know what actually soff means
If some one knows a proper page explaining it plz provide links.
If I buy this device I will try my best to get the CM10.1 and PA and PAC to this device.
Its my exmas days so don't have much time to go through the whole forum that's the reason I posted this.
Thanks for your replies guys

First of all, no this device doesn't have those fancy roms cuz our dev community is small. But still many people are working on them and you may find them anytime.
Well, we dont have cm10.1 support cuz the device tree's are not present. Already atis is working on it.
CM9 is the most stable we have.
Yes kernel sources are released for 3.0 kernel but 3.4 sources are pending.
My say, buy it.

I need devices to develop for!

Hey guys! After a long time of taking a break from the Android world and focusing more on school I am finally coming back and coming back strong! But before I can start my big plans I need a device or two to develop for. I own a Galaxy Note 3 but I really do not like developing for it since we do not have an Unlocked Bootloader yet.
I am a Samsung Fanboy so I know TouchWiz inside and out! I also have plenty of experience with the stock Android OS. I currently do NOT make source builds but if you have the source code then I will be glad to!
All of my builds will be built on my Dedicated Server and uploaded on a fast 1GBPS port! I will develop for pretty much any device as long as it either has source code or is compatible with the Kitchen.
I can theme, build ROMs, and very little Kernel work. Let me know what devices you want me to dev for and what you would like to see in a ROM. I can start working very soon!
Thanks for your time!

actually i had tried doing that.but on my broadband connection syncing from git using the tutorial at google was very difficult.went on for many days and still i couldnt get source downloaded and syncd.used command to pick up latest branch.still failed.that why i thought about this way.Do you think the porting as i mentioned above ia possible.specially the cross porting using 5.1.1 base to port a marshmallow aosp made for nexus 5x or even one plus one bacon

To what I know.. It's not possible.. You've to sync git for sure.. That's how every dev is working here..

this was the reason
sorry to disturb but i go this idea based on this video here
How to Port a Custom Rom to your Android Smartphone
would have posted the link but i am not being allowed to
Well try syncing some source and build.. You can't just port it.. Maybe the tutorial is about different kinda ROMs like MIUI
Try slim.. It's little less.. Still you've to spent 20-30GB
Send from my OnePlus X
the video i spoke about was to port pac man rom uaing cm as the basefor galaxy grand 2.however the guy said that we need the porting rom to be of a similary spexed device.
that had got me wondering if i can port aosp and that too cross porting where the base remains a 5.1.1 cm made for one plus x.
i would have loved developing from source but my crappy internet will never allow me to
Try OxygenOS as base.. It's completely for OpX and you can add features etc.
Send from my OnePlus X
ok so i will use:-
1.aosp 6 marshmallow made for some device ,or nexus 5x rom
2.oxygen os 2.1.3-x as base
i hope thats fine.will update here if i succeed
you will definietly not succeed.

I am in a similar situation. I read infinite articles, millions of videos (not literally) but I still didn't get my answer. I am trying to build AOSP from Source for onyx, already synced Source code but now I want to know what changes I should be making in order to get working device tree, kernel tree, vendor, common and other things for AOSP 7.0? I have sources of CM14 but I don't know what exactly to do and no one seems to like helping out noobs with potential to learn (at least I think that about myself but again, sorry if this question is stupid)

PORT Sense to another phone

Hello , i have 1 question can it be work if i port a Sense rom to my honor 8 ?
beacouse i love the Sense ui and the look i will be great if i see a sene rom for my phone
When you know the HTC HD2 and they have done to make a windows phone to an android phone with a lot of roms like Sense,Miui,AOKP, or PAC man rom then
at can be done with another one
The problem is, that it is really hard to build ROMs for devices with Kirin Chipset, because Huawei won't release any helpful source code. We can be lucky that they released some Kernel sources for several devices. Some honor and Huawei devices are nearly the same and ROMs that are build for one device, work on others with the same Chipset as well, so go and look if you find any, I think the OpenKirin released something for the honor 8/ the Huawei version. Just search your Chipset here on xda, you should find something. But there won't be a Sense ROM, I'm pretty sure.
EDIT: There is RROS available for your device!
You have to follow every single instruction, or some features won't work. That's probably everything you will get for that device.

Simple answer is no. Sense like TouchWiz and all other oem distros rely on their own frameworks files that are closed Sourced and only compatible with their devices.
As for the HD 2. That was the last great device of its kind with a really open bootloader.
