Phone stuck in boot loop - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a friends phone that gets stuck at the Samsung glowing logo during boot.
I can access download mode (Odin). In Odin mode I have tried to download files using the Odin3 (3.07) Windows app, along with the packaged cooperve_0623.pit, and S5830i_XXLA2_ODDLA1_DDLA1_by_Domnic79 (CSC, Modem, PDA). Odin download seemed to go OK. However on reboot I still see the same boot cycle, nothing more.
I can also access Recovery mode. (Vol+, Home, Power).
Here I see
Code:
Android System recovery <3e>
Android system recovery utility.
...
If I select "Apply update from sdcard I get:
Code:
Install from sdcard complete
E: failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount /sdcard
(Assuming this is referring to the external sdcard slot, then this makes sense. There is no sd card.)
When I select reboot now
I see
Code:
--Applying Multi-CSC--
Multi_CSC: There are common apks
E: failed to mount /data (Invalid argument)
E: copy_log_files_to_data :: can't mount /dataRebooting...
When connected to the device in recovery mode, on my PC I see a few devices with warning labels under Device Manager. These are CDC Abstract Control Model, CDC ACM Data, CDC OBEX Data, CDC Object Exchange.
I have Kies installed. This is a handset for United Kingdom use.
I'm at a bit of a dead end. Because this phone is fairly old a lot of the links seem to point to files that are no longer hosted, or worse are hidden behind crappy subscription walls.
Any help appreciated.

hi @captainbadger, First get yourself SD card ( formatted properly for further use inside your legacy device ) , then follow through @ post#4 ; my comments ; starts from the line "1. Download one of the newest ,, till you reach the end of the post" , and log file entry of your Odin is much appropriated for the record mate. <Uninstall/disable kies , pretty useless piece of software and tempting to get in the way>

OK thanks I'll give that a shot.

[Q] [SOLVED] I can't leave recovery ... ever

Soooooooo ... here's what happened.
I was trying to condense my internal and external sdcards from my computer. Once i backed everything up, I formatted one of the drives through windows. Problem is, it COMPLETELY formatted it, including the partition for app data. The phone booted, but with 0Mb for apps, and would freeze up and give me the black screen with lit buttons.
Then I go into DL mode, flash the stock firmware and during the reboot, it gets stuck in recovery with this error:
-- Movi_check Start...!!
checksum confirmation need check_sum[1301305579]
MBR_ChkSum in header : 5.0
MBR checksum : E9A2186CA7912EE54F5EFCB478D44960
MBR Checksum Error
Movinand Checksum Confirmation Fail
lfs pass open fail
--movi_checking undone!...
update media. please wait
E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
E: copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
copy default media content failed
I can Get into clockwork, but it won't flash bionix1.7, I get a line 81 error. I can't mount the sd while in recovery any more. I can't get into DL mode again. whenever I try to reboot, it throws me into recovery with that error ... I'm completely lost right now and any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

try booting in dl mode from your pc. Install the android SDK and USB drivers for samsung. The SDK can be found by googling and search the forum for the USB drivers. They in the command line type "<PathToSDK>\tools\adb.exe reboot download. That should get you into download mode. Then flash the stock image and make sure the "Re-Partition" is checked.
I think this should work.

tried that, it didn't work either. It still takes me into recovery even though i put adb reboot download. I think I'm just going to have Asurion replace it again
Boot into Clockwork recovery and post the results of:
adb shell mount

Once i go into clockwork, my computer no longer recognizes clockwork.
Idk if its the same thing, but here's what it says outside of clockwork
I would try and reformat your partitions through clockwork. I dont know if you might of reformated the partions NTFS or what.

Looks like this at least let me get into dl mode ... flashing stock now, we'll see what happens
Good to hear. I bet when you reformated in windows, it formated the internal sdcard as NTFS which Android cant read.
Just to put it out there if you press the menu button from recovery i believe its the same as DL mode .
got it!
First off, thanks for all the tips guys.
I had to flash Eugene's Froyo that doesnt brick with re-partition checked (no other rom would work) which brought me back, and then i downgraded from there.
Just in case anybody else gets that!
did it get rid of the mbr checksum error? I still have it but can flash whatever.

Doom brick?

Tried to go from CM7 #11 to Simply Honey 3.5 Revolution, but when that didn't work, I ended up Odin-flashing stock KB1... and now I get this when booting:
Android system recovery <3e>
System Recovery Utils
- for BML -
reboot system now
reinstall packages
delete all user data
delete cache\
format internal sd-card
update media, please wait
E:Can't mount dev/block/stl10

E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.

Got the same error message when attempting to format the internal sd-card, and more importantly, when putting the device into download mode, it's no longer detected by Odin...
EDIT: Fixed! At least in the sense that I was able to flash back to stock JFD, by choosing the 512 PIT instead of the 803 PIT, and by physically disconnecting/reconnecting the micro USB cable while Odin was open. Whew! A frightening lesson, but it's reinforced the importance of flashing back to stock before switching ROMs.
EDIT #2: On the other hand, when I root JFD, then install ROM Manager from the Market, then flash CWM 2.5.1.2, reboot into CWM recovery through ROM Manager (instead of 3-button), then try to flash a ROM, it seems to hang/freeze at "finding update package"... but rebooting into recovery by 3-button fixed this, thankfully.
glad you got it resolved, but next time, remember to review/look over standard procedures in the noob bible. Your problems were because of your actions....... operator error...........

[Q] Please help | Phone got wet - bootloop | Recover data from internal SD

Hello everyone, I'm in desperate need; any hint would be highly appreciated:
My GT-I9100 got drenched in a thunderstorm I encountered on my vacation. Unfortunately, I saved all of my pictures to the internal SD which is now inaccessible. :crying:
What the Phone does:
- When I start the phone it gets stuck at the "Samsung-screen"
- When I try to enter Recovery I get the CWM logo and the message "CWM-based Recovery v6.0.3.2". However the phone will restart after a few minutes and not actually go into recovery
- I can go into Odin Mode (Download Mode)
- I can connect on adb while recovery is supposedly loading (before the phone restarts) --> I can't mount the internal SD card (assuming from fstab that it is /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 or /dev/block/mmcblk0p11; both files seem to have a size of 0 KB); "mount -a" via adb shell freezes the phone.
What I tried/hope for:
My primary goal is to recover the pictures from the internal SD, not to get the phone running again.
- I tried to access the files via ADB. However, my understanding of the partitioning/file system is quite limited. The file system I can see via adb does not include the files I was used to find with my file explorer on the phone. From /etc/fstab I assumed, that the internal memory (that contains the DCIM folder with the pictures) is actually mounted from a file in /dev/block/ called mmcblk1p1. Trying to mount it gives me the following error:
"mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 on /sdcard failed: No such file or directory"
Using adb shell (ls -s) I realized that all files in /dev/block seem to have a size of 0.
- I tried to reflash CWM using ODIN --> Odin on my Computer force closed (both v1.85 and v3.x)
Is there any hope to recover my data? Please share your opinion; any help is highly appreciated!

nabi2 help no os installed, no partitions

so i was given a nabi2 since the person who had it no longer wanted it anymore cause well, i dunno. until i got it to boot up. stuck on the infamous nabi icon when trying to boot it up normally. when i press the +volume with the pwr button i can get a menu that shows boot normally / fastboot protocol / recovery kernel / forced recovery. when i select boot normally, well it stays on the nabi logo and does not progress. samething with fastboot protocol . but when i select recovery kernel/forced it takes me to TWRP v2.6.1.0 (nabi 2.1.27). when i go to restore on the storage section it lets me select the external_sdcard and shows 16gb. but when i select internal storage says (0mb) and nothing to select. so i pulled the memory card out and plugged it upto the pc and no folders or sub folders in it but i am able to verify it's fat32 formatted already.. reading on the forums. i went into backup to hopefully create some kind of folders, but when i go into it under the section that says " select partitions to back up" nothing appears.. i go into mount menu and says select the partitions to mount while the sd card is inserted and doesnt allow me to select system/cache/data/addon but does allow me to select external_sdcard. when i go into copy log to sd i see the following:
E: unable to mount '/data'
E: unable to find partition size for '/recovery'
E: unable to find partition size for '/boot'
E: unable to find partition size for '/misc'
E: unable to find partition size for '/staging'
and it says the samething for system / cache/data/addon/internal storage
and when i go to power off through the reboot, on the top it says " no os installed"
i'm trying to give this to my son who's bday is coming up. so i'm throwing in the towel an seeking help. anyone please help me will gladly appreciate it

Need to try a different TWRP version. I forget if TWRP for Nabi 2.1.27 is Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean. There are 3 different versions of TWRP, one for ICS, JB and KK and whatever you have it's not the right one. You will have to use fastboot to load it as a flashable zip won't work.
