[Q] Factory Reset in download mode vs. TWRP Factory Reset (Wipe) - Sprint HTC One (M9)

Factory Reset in download mode vs. TWRP Factory Reset (Wipe)
What are the differences between them? I feel like I experienced different results between the 2. for example, I had no data and phone signals for the last few days and tried TWRP Wipe many times with no avail. Then when i did the factory reset from the download screen it seemed to fix the issue. This could all be a coincidence and probably is.
I thought that since I have a custom recovery the factory reset in the download screen does not do anything different than the TWRP one. I'm sure I'm wrong. Enlighten me please.

[Q] Can you factory reset????

Can you factory reset after rooting your Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tab?
Thanks for any insight on this issue.
I want to keep the root. just need to reset to factory specs.
Yes. Go to Settings>Privacy> and then select "Factory Data Reset" This will reset all settings and delete all of your data on the device. If you need a more serious reset than that, you will need to either clear data via clockworkmod recovery or re-flash via ODIN. (Warning: Reflashing with ODIN will remove your root and return you to stock.) If you just want to reset to factory settings and wipe your data, the "Factory Data Reset" will do what you need. Good luck.
The factory reset worked without incident. Only thing that didn't erase was the pictures that I took with the built in camera. I was having trouble with a push ad. Finally figured out what which app it was. Thanks for the help

[Q] Note 2 does not boot after Team Win factory reset

Okay, so I had a stock Note 2 fully updated software or whatever (if you go into 'Settings' then 'About phone' the 'Software update' part). I followed section 1a instructions (10 steps): http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2024207 and then this one for WIndows: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2118348 (I just followed the video instructions) and everything seemed to work out fine and I got Team Win Recovery.
But when I did a factory reset in Team Win recovery, the phone did not boot up at all and I had to use Odin to install Root66 stock VRALJB 4.1.1 12/2/12 like I did in the first set of instructions I did in order for my phone to boot up again.
Is this normal/supposed to happen?
... Why did you factory reset at all? There was no reason to unless you were installing a rom. You made two errors back to back. Doesn't root 66 relock the bootloader? I don't even know what to suggest you do. Don't mod your phone till you read more. If you don't learn this stuff you will have a very expensive brick dude

Factory reset wiping from within the phone software is totally different from factory wiping from within recovery and not to be confused with one another.
doing a format wipe from within twrp could be compared to format c: at a dos command prompt. Once you reboot there is no OS in the phone

I'm pretty sure you are mistaken. I have factory reset with TWRP plenty of times and it does not format the system partition. So, my bet is either he had a bugged TWRP or he accidently went to Wipe-->System instead of factory reset. Factory reset should just wipe data and cache.

Factory reset with custom rom

I have a question that must be obvious to many but I don't know the answer and am curious.
Right now I am rooted and if I want to install a new rom I do the factory reset and wipe caches in recovery and then install the custom rom.
What happens if
1. I do this reset and clear caches within recovery and just reboot without installing a rom?
2. What happens if I do a factory reset with settings?
I know the phone will start in setup mode but will it have the last rom I installed or what?
If you're wiping system too, then the phone won't boot - except to recovery if you tell it to. If you're not wiping system but you're wiping data, then the phone will boot but be like you just installed it new for the first time and you have to set it up.
I'm not positive what Factory Reset within settings will do, if it works or not, when you have a custom recovery installed. Normally under a completely stock ROM with stock recovery, Factory Reset from Settings or from the stock recovery would wipe everything but system. It wipes Data, Cache, Dalvik, and internal storage. You can achieve the same thing from custom recovery if you wish to. And yes, as long as you didn't wipe System, the last ROM you had installed would boot.
Doing a factory reset from settings with twrp installed should be like doing a factory reset in twrp. TWRP will takeover when the phone restarts to do the factory reset. At least that is how it was with my Moto X phones. I've done it with Jasmine on my G3, but don't remember the outcome. It was only a few days ago too. Lol. I'm a retard.

e recovery failed to factory reset

Is anyone having similar problems. I have flashed an open kirin rom. After that I haven't been able to factory reset the phone using the stock recovery and it keeps looping. The factory reset option seems to be blurred out and I can't access it
What should I do in this scenario ?
TIA
Do you have flashed recovery_ramsdisk with Magisk?
In that case, you may have to restore the stock recovery
When I trieed, I noitced that eRecovery boots Recovery to factory reset and wipe. Which was not possible with the falshed magisk....
Good luck,
Peter
